ScienceCasts: Why the World Didnt End Yesterday – Video

ScienceCasts: Why the World Didnt End Yesterday
NASA is so sure the world won #39;t come to an end on Dec. 21, 2012, they have already released this news item for the day after. Dec. 22, 2012: If you #39;re reading this story, it means one thing: The World Didn #39;t End Yesterday. According to media reports of an ancient Maya prophecy, the world was supposed to be destroyed on Dec. 21, 2012. Apparently not. "The whole thing was a misconception from the very beginning," says Dr. John Carlson, director of the Center for Archaeoastronomy. "The Maya calendar did not end on Dec. 21, 2012, and there were no Maya prophecies foretelling the end of the world on that date." The truth, says Carlson, is more interesting than fiction. Carlson is a hard-nosed scientist--a radio astronomer who earned his degree studying distant galaxies. He became interested in the 2012 phenomenon in the early 70s when he attended a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and learned about the lost civilization of the Maya. Where the rain forests of Mesoamerica now stand, a great civilization once flourished. The people of Maya society built vast cities, ornate temples, and towering pyramids. At its peak around 800 AD, the population numbered more than 2000 people per square mile in the cities -- comparable to modern Los Angeles County. The Maya mastered astronomy, developed an elaborate written language, and left behind exquisite artifacts. Most compelling to Carlson was the Maya #39;s expansive sense of time. "The times Mayas used dwarf ...From:alabamahitViews:0 0ratingsTime:04:21More inScience Technology

Marijuana – Video

Marijuana
Over the course of one semester we were able to debate and observe many scientific controversy ranging from light, smell, artificial intelligence, and Dinosaurs, for the final project for the class students were told to choose and present a controversy that was of interest to them. Emma and I choose to look at the controversy of marijuana and piece together all the facts. We presented it in a movie, though this is just some of our research we felt like this video expanded many people view on marijuana and strengthen their opinion on either side. We may have stated a side at the end, but that does not mean we want you to come to the same conclusion the point of a controversy is to choose for yourself. How you enjoy watching.From:Maddimatters212Views:3 0ratingsTime:11:08More inEducation
