After completing his primary education at schools in his hometown near Chicago, he joined the University of Chicago where he studied Biology, Arabic and Islamic Civilization. It was during this period that he began his study of sacred knowledge, studying Arabic grammar (nahw), Hanafi Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh under ulama (scholars) in Chicago. In 1994 Shaykh Husain also began training in Islamic spirituality under Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad, a leading shaykh in this field. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Shaykh Husain enrolled in the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. Along with his medical studies, he continued his studies of sacred knowledge. In his final year he took leave from medical school to focus on his religious studies, traveling to Syria and then Pakistan, where he studied a traditional curriculum for a number of years under some of their greatest scholars. Throughout his years of study, Shaykh Husain continued his training under Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad. He was blessed with the close company of his Shaykh, learning the science of the purification of the heart. The deep taqwa and firm adherence to the sunnah and Shariah that characterized his teacher were eventually transferred to the student and Shaykh Husain was formally authorized in this science by Shaykh Zulfiqar in July 2001. Michele Mannerow, Chair of the Owen Sound Family Physician Recruitment Committee announced the winners of the Medical Student Bursary Awards for 2013, awarded annually to local students enrolled in medical school. This year #39;s recipients include: Graham Bergstra, Dan Breadner, Sonja Bruin, Neil de Laplante, Jessica Flear, Ben Fregeau, Shannon McColl, Kyle McIver, Tanya Nadon, Hiran Shah and Kristen VanSligtenhorst. Also recognized and welcomed by Council, were Owen Sound #39;s two new resident family physicians, Dr. Mark Robertson and Dr. Samantha Saunders. Local singer/song writer Allan Johnson presented City Council with a song he wrote about the City of Owen Sound called "Big Little Town Owen Sound" for Council #39;s consideration as the City #39;s official song. City Council authorized the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a Charitable Gaming Centre Municipality Agreement with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, which will allow charitable groups to offer new types of electronic games and be in compliance with The Criminal Code. For my final creative project for Russian173 - Beyond the Looking Glass: Nonsense and Absurd in Russian and European Literature and Visual Arts, I chose to take a surreal series of candid photographs inspired by some of my favorite existential literary and visual works we #39;ve seen this semester, including Nikolai Gogol #39;s "The Nose", "Monty Python #39;s Flying Circus", and Luis Bunuel #39;s "The Phantom of Liberty". I have never tried to make any kind of photographic art project before, let alone an absurd one, and I really enjoyed the experience. Artists like Monty Python make it seem relatively easy to come up with ridiculous material, but I didn #39;t realize how difficult it is to create even remotely original absurd art. (Not to mention that it takes guts to actually act out a lot of it, as it can be extremely embarrassing...) The main idea of the story is that one day I wake up with a squid for a head, and I am the only one who doesn #39;t immediately realize what is going on, so I attempt to go about my day as usual.
