Public domain film from NASA, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). en.wikipedia.org The Orbiting Astronomical Observatory (OAO) satellites were a series of four American space observatories launched by NASA between 1966 and 1972, which provided the first high-quality observations of many objects in ultraviolet light. Although two OAO missions were failures, the success of the other two increased awareness within the astronomical community of the benefits of space-based observations, and led to the instigation of the Hubble Space Telescope... OAO-3 (Copernicus) OAO-3 was launched on 21 August 1972, and proved to be the most successful of the OAO missions. It was a collaborative effort between NASA and the UK #39;s Science and Engineering Research Council, and carried an X-ray detector built by University College London #39;s Mullard ...From:webdev17Views:1 0ratingsTime:10:09More inScience Technology

SOFIA – Video

SOFIA
NASA #39;s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) aircraft has recently received major upgrades to its observatory and avionics systems that will significantly improve the systems #39; efficiency and operability. The new SOFIA hardware and software upgrades fully integrate the telescope with the observatory #39;s command and control system. Enhanced pointing and tracking capabilities have been integrated based on experience from last year #39;s flights. The highly modified Boeing 747SP aircraft has begun checkout flights in preparation for conducting astronomical observations and commissioning of its first-generation instruments in early 2013. Also during this downtime a new avionics system was designed and installed by ASB Avionics, LLC of Mojave, Calif. The new flight management system and modern electronic flight displays replaced the outdated navigation and flight deck instrument systems originally installed on the aircraft. The avionics upgrade allows the SOFIA aircraft to be in compliance with current airspace regulations throughout the world and provides a solid platform for meeting future regulations.From:Kowch737Views:0 0ratingsTime:01:04More inScience Technology

Eyes on the Sky: Dec 24 thru Dec 30 – Video

Eyes on the Sky: Dec 24 thru Dec 30
There #39;s a Christmas conjunction this year: The Moon and Jupiter will form a tight pairing on Christmas night, right near the Hyades star cluster and the bright star Aldebaran. But don #39;t forget to look for the Moon on the 24th near the Pleiades, to take out that new astronomy equipment on the 26th to see the stark relief of craters and mountains on the Moon along the terminator. But better than that: TWO moons of Jupiter will cast shadows on the face of that planet on the 27th! Plus, a look back at "Eyes on the Sky" from 2012. See what #39;s up in the night sky every week with "Eyes on the Sky" videos, astronomy made easy.From:eyesontheskyDOTcomViews:0 0ratingsTime:05:25More inScience Technology

US astronaut Joseph Acaba and his Japanese colleague Akihiko Hoshide successfully undocked the HTV-3 space carrier from the International Space Station on Wednesday. The Japanese cargo ship brought five tons of supplies to the orbital station last month. It was the third Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency spacecraft to deliver cargo to the ISS. The HTV-3 will be deorbited and sunk in the Pacific Ocean on Friday. AeroSpace, Silence of Efficiency – Video

AeroSpace, Silence of Efficiency
Rending of images I thought up based on aerospace craft, I imagined in a scifi story I #39;m in the process of writing. Slideshow is of stages of its ascent-turbofan from ground to 35/40k, combined cycle ramjets from there to about 30 miles up, scramjets to about 40 miles, about mach 10. Slideshow is accompanied by Minus 10, Counting #39;s parody of Edmond #39;s Fitsgerald #39;s Apollo 13. Unlike the song, these rendings are of an ascent to low earth orbit, not a Moon tripFrom:roger fancherViews:0 0ratingsTime:06:05More inMusic

Aerospace Package Trivessal
Extremely brief animation of an aerospace 3 reusable stages to get as much performance as efficiently as possible. I #39;m teaching myself animation from scratch as of the last few weeks, it #39;s only a few seconds long. It #39;s a moving depiction of the turbofan stage sep, the trans/hypersonic phase, to rocket deployment. Excuse the cartoony look. From:roger fancherViews:0 0ratingsTime:00:09More inFilm Animation

Aston Martin Vanquish: Replace DBS? – AutoPressWeekly – Video

Aston Martin Vanquish: Replace DBS? - AutoPressWeekly
http://www.autowp.ru http://www.autowp.ru "Yes, there are flaws with the Vanquish, but it #39;s actually an extremely enjoyable car to both drive fast and to live with on a daily basis, and it feels far better resolved than the DBS, the car it effectively replaces." (carmagazine) "What an agreeable beast this is. Sleek, roguishly aristocratic and gallingly fast, the Vanquish represents another 100 or so man-years of development applied to the Aston template. Aston #39;s familiar aluminum structure technology mdash;castings and glued/riveted extrusions, mostly mdash;is here draped in aerospace-quality carbon-composite panels." (WSJ) "But once the Vanquish is rolling and the road opens up, the sheer, horsey power of the thing is a joy. Romp the throttle at mid-rpm in third gear and you #39;ll get a huge, hydraulic shove in the back, like God has hit you with a water balloon." (WSJ) "The coachwork is sleek and stretched, although in truth all modern Astons look quite similar. The Vanquish borrows styling from the 1 million One-77 supercar." (telegraph) (565bhp with a top speed of 183mph, 0-62mph in 4.1sec) "One of the best-looking Astons on the old VH platform. Carbon-fibre bodywork does little for weight saving or stiffness, however, and at 1.7 tons this sporting coup is a tad porky. Performance is more than adequate and the ride is good, but this apogee of Astons needs more sparkle as well as a manual gearbox or an eight-speed auto."
