Liberty University Quiz Bowl Team Wins Conference Championship

The Liberty University Quiz Bowl team took home its seventh Big South Conference championship in eight years Saturday at Gardner-Webb University, going undefeated for the third-straight year.

(PRWEB) January 29, 2013

The team posted a 6-0 record in the competition, which is part of the conferences Academic Consortium, designed to develop institutional relationships outside of athletics.

One of the best single parts of the tournament was hearing a toss-up question devoted to the founder of the Moral Majority and our team knowing instantly that it was our founder, Dr. Jerry Falwell, Sr., said Dr. Jim Nutter, Libertys coach.

This years team is comprised of senior Jake Rogers (captain), sophomore Kaity Shondelmyer; and first-year players Doug Stephens, Jon Bateman, and Greta Hanks.

The team heads to the National Academic Quiz Tournament Sectionals at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Feb. 9 to compete against schools from the ACC and SEC, including Vanderbilt, University of North Carolina, University of Alabama, and Virginia Tech.

Quiz Bowl, often called the varsity sport of the mind, is part of Libertys rigorous Honors Program. It includes players from a variety of majors; several members are National Merit Finalists on full academic scholarships. Competitions resemble Jeopardy, with teams buzzing in to answer questions on literature, history, geography, government, the sciences, math, art, popular culture, and sports.

"We have done our best to follow Dr. Falwell's motto, 'If it's Christian, it should be better', and we are continuing to demonstrate to the world that a Christian worldview and academic excellence are not mutually exclusive, Stephens said. For the freshmen members of the Big South team, this win has given us a new confidence as we prepare to travel to the regional championships. For me, this win means that I have been using my God-given skills to my utmost.

Liberty Ross ‘unhappy’ before Stewart scandal

Liberty Ross was reportedly unhappy in her marriage long before husband Rupert Sanders cheated on her with Kristen Stewart.

The model-and-actress filed for divorce from the director six months after pictures were published showing him kissing the Twilight star.

A source told Us Weekly magazine that Liberty, 34, found it difficult to uproot her life in the UK for Hollywood.

"She wasn't very happy, even before all this happened," the source revealed.

"Rupert put a lot of pressure on her to change her life for him and they moved to L.A. for him. She was such a big deal in England - a bigger deal than him even."

Liberty married Rupert back in 2002 and they have a daughter Skyla, seven, and five-year-old son Tennyson together.

She even gave a hint of her unhappiness to You magazine prior to the scandal.

"I went from the glamour of working with Karl Lagerfeld and John Galliano to living on an isolated hilltop, with my husband gone most of the time," she said.

"I romanticised domesticity for a while, and loved having a shopping list of groceries stuck to the fridge for the first time. But moving here and starting a life all over again was a lot harder than I had anticipated."

Despite the upheaval, the couple did love each other, according to the source, but Libertys anger over her husbands tryst with Kristen was too much and they mutually decided to split.

Liberty Ross ‘couldn’t forgive Stewart affair’

Liberty Ross reportedly filed for divorce as she realised she couldnt get over the public embarrassment Rupert Sanders inflicted on her.

British film director Rupert, 42, had an affair with Kristen Stewart, 22, last year, after they met on the set of Snow White and the Huntsman.

Although Liberty tried hard to work on her marriage and even attended counselling, last week she filed for divorce. Its been claimed the model finally realised she couldnt move past the betrayal.

For the sake of her own happiness, she had to finally go through with the divorce, an insider told RadarOnline.com.

No matter how hard she tried, she just couldnt forgive Rupert for cheating on her with Kristen especially since it was something that caused such public embarrassment. The images of Rupert and Kristen together making out were out there for everyone to see. Liberty just couldnt get those pictures out of her head.

Liberty and Rupert have two children together, which apparently made her decision even tougher.

Although she found the thought of disrupting the kids lives difficult, the star apparently realised she needs to move on after months of painful soul searching.

The model filed documents to end her marriage on Friday and requested joint custody of her children with Rupert. She also asked for spousal support, while Rupert lodged papers on the same day and also asked for joint custody.

When the pictures of Kristen and Rupert together were leaked, the actress released a statement apologising to her boyfriend and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson.

The young couple were thought to have worked through their issues and united to promote the final instalment of the vampire franchise Breaking Dawn Part 2 at the end of last year.

Liberty Ross

Liberty Ross tried everything she could to save her marriage to Rupert Sanders.

The British model and actress - who filed divorce papers on Friday (25.01.13) at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, asking for spousal support and joint custody of their children Sykla, seven, and Tennyson, five - was desperate to get their 10-year relationship back on track after his affair with Kristen Stewart but was haunted by the images of them together.

A source close to the 34-year-old star told gossip website RadarOnline.com: 'For the sake of her own happiness, she had to finally go through with the divorce. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't forgive Rupert for cheating on her with Kristen - especially since it was something that caused such public embarrassment.

'The images of Rupert and Kristen together making out were out there for everyone to see. Liberty just couldn't get those pictures out of her head. She truly tried everything, even counselling, because she was desperate to make it work for the sake of Skyla and Tennyson.

'But after months and months of painful soul searching she decided it was in the best interests to end her misery and make a fresh start.'

Liberty and the 'Snow White and the Huntsman' director's marriage has been under strain ever since his fling with the movie's star Kristen Stewart was exposed last summer.

Although Liberty initially kicked the director out of their home after his infidelity was revealed, they began couples therapy in an attempt to save their marriage.

Liberty Ross Asks Rupert Sanders for a Divorce: What Went Wrong

Call it the straw that broke the camel's back. Six months after her husband Rupert Sanders was caught cheating with Kristen Stewart, Liberty Ross decided to file divorce. But a source tells Us Weekly that the British model, 34, had been unhappy in her ten year marriage long before the headline-making fling.

"She wasn't very happy, even before all this happened," the source tells Us. "Rupert put a lot of pressure on her to change her life for him and they moved to L.A. for him. She was such a big deal in England -- a bigger deal than him even."

Ross, who was previously a top fashion model in London, opened up to YOU magazine in July 2012 about how "isolating" it felt to move to Hollywood with her husband and give up her career. "I went from the glamour of working with Karl Lagerfeld and John Galliano to living on an isolated hilltop, with my husband gone most of the time," Ross said. "I romanticized domesticity for a while, and loved having a shopping list of groceries stuck to the fridge for the first time. But moving here and starting a life all over again was a lot harder than I had anticipated."

The Snow White and the Huntsman director married Ross in 2002 and they have daughter Skyla, 7, and son Tennyson, 5, together. "They did love each other," the source explains, "but I think she was so unhappy and he was putting himself first [that] it was taking its toll."

In exclusive Us Weekly photos, Sanders, 42, was caught making out with his Snow White and the Huntsman actress Stewart, 22, in mid-July. In the divorce papers filed Jan. 25, Ross asks for joint custody of their kids, spousal support and attorney's fees. Sanders is also seeking joint custody, but it not asking for spousal support.

"They gave it a shot for the kids, [but] she was just so angry," a second insider told Us of Sander's tryst with Stewart. "She's the kind of person who wouldn't really ever get over it."

But Sanders ultimately agreed with the decision to end their marriage after a decade together. A source said that "it was definitely mutual."

Libertarian Principles — Too Radical? – Video

Libertarian Principles -- Too Radical?
What is Libertarianism and Liberty? Most people associate it with a total state of anarchy, with people running around and hurting each other. Where the rich get richer and the poor get poor. Where American national security is compromised. But few realize the pure and simple principles behind liberty. Well here #39;s your chance to find out just how radical we are.

Exploring Liberty An Introduction to Libertarian Thought David Boaz Full HD
LIBERTY. It #39;s a simple idea, but it #39;s also the linchpin of a complex system of values and practices: justice, prosperity, responsibility, toleration, cooperation, and peace. Many people believe that liberty is the core political value of modern civilization itself, the one that gives substance and form to all the other values of social life. They #39;re called libertarians. From Libertarianism.org.

What It Means to Be A Libertarian HD
What does it mean to be a libertarian? Dr. Jeffrey Miron at Harvard offers one answer. According to Miron, libertarians have enormous respect for individual decisions. While other ideologies attempt to use government force to advance their ideas of how people should act or behave, libertarians think that individuals should be able to live their own lives as they see fit. DbZ: Why People Don #39;t Listen to "Libertarians"
Though I don #39;t agree with libertarian thought and policy, I am open to debate and dialogue. However, libertarians need to be aware that there are a few things standing between them and discourse. Some of it is their doing, some of it is a matter of presentation. In the spirit of getting some discussion going, a few observations from someone on the left end of the spectrum.
