Liberty grapplers fall short of first state title

Liberty fell behind in the first four matches came up short of its first team state title in school history in a 48-22 loss to two-time defending state champion Bamberg-Ehrhardt Saturday in the Class 2A/A wrestling dual final at Dreher High in Columbia.

The Red Devils (24-10), which came into the match ranked second in the classification, were on a whirlwind ride after winning their first Region 1-2A title in the program's 24-year existence three weeks ago. Last week, they ran through Ware Shoals, Pendleton and Crescent for their first Upper State crown.

No. 1 B-E (36-3) was just too much. Billy Williams (220 pounds), Malcolm Jones (120), Lan Hiers (126), Damion Johnson (132) and Player Long (160) scored pins for the Red Raiders, who beat Marion, Battery Creek and Aynor last weekend en route to its seventh consecutive Lower State title at Edisto High. Led by first-year coach Jake Stewart, the Red Raiders are the first team to win back-to-back titles in different classifications, having moved up from A to 2A this year.

Trailing 15-3, Liberty's Nick Weidman (106) grinded out a decision and Tristan Oglesby (113) won by pin, cutting the deficit to three points. Jones and Hiers came up with pins to halt the Red Devils' momentum.

Dakota Stewart won by pin at pounds and Garrett Whitmire earned a major decision for Liberty before B-E won the last three matches.

Liberty Ross And Jimmy Lovine Have Been "Spending Time Together": Source

Liberty Ross may have finally filed the divorce papers in her split from husband Rupert Sanders, but that doesn't mean she's going it alone.

The British model, 34, has recently been spotted out and about with music executive Jimmy Lovine, sparking rumors of a romance -- but a source close to Ross says that the two have simply been "spending time together" in the past couple of weeks.

"It is just getting to know each other better," the source told Us Weekly. "We'll see."

PHOTOS: Relive Rupert and Kristen's steamy fling

Lovine, 59, is a legend in the music industry, having co-founded Interscope Records and worked with a long list of bold-faced names, including Eminem and Lady Gaga.

On Friday, Feb. 8, the pair was snapped leaving an NYC hotel together in the morning, just two weeks after Ross officially filed for divorce from Sanders, 42. In the papers, Ross asked for joint custody of the couple's two children -- Skyla, 7, and Tennyson, 5, as well as spousal support and attorney's fees.

Sanders responded to Ross' request with his own documents, similarly asking for joint custody but not seeking either spousal support or attorney's fees.

"This was a long time coming," a source told Us of the divorce, explaining that Ross "was more than a little upset" by Sanders' relationship with his much-younger Snow White and the Huntsman star Kristen Stewart last year.

Liberty Ross gets 'LOVE' tattoo

Liberty Ross hinted that she still believes in love by getting the word temporarily tattooed on her wrist in capital letters this week

The model and actress - who recently filed for divorce from her director husband Rupert Sanders, asking for spousal support and joint custody of their children Sykla, seven, and Tennyson, five - opted to get a temporary tattoo of the word 'LOVE' on her wrist at New York Fashion Week.

A source told the New York Post's Page Six that the British star stopped by the Scoop NYC party in the Meatpacking District on Thursday night to support celebrity stylist Cher Coulter's denim collection for AG Jeans.

After chatting with actress Elizabeth Olsen, Liberty was invited to get a temporary inking and chose the word 'LOVE' in capital letters.

The 34-year-old model was devastated when her husband cheated on her with 22-year-old actress Kristen Stewart after they met on the movie 'Snow White and the Huntsman' but is now trying to move forward with her life.

A source previously said: 'The good thing about Liberty is that she's not upset anymore. She's had time to get over the initial shock and awe of it when it was exposed last year and the divorce was the nail in the coffin.'

'That girl's extremely mature. She's handled all this public tragedy in her life with grace and humility for the sake of her children. I toast to her.'

Libertarian group offers political alternative

While political discourse is typically guided by Republican or Democratic stances on the issues, Miami University sophomore Matthew Stymacks encourages students to look beyond the mainstream party platforms.

Stymacks' organization, Miami University College Libertarians, will function as a discussion group rather than as an extension of the national Libertarian Party, he said.

"I just thought it would be another opportunity for something different," Stymacks said. "I thought it would be nice to have a more business-minded political group."

Bill Redpack, national chairman of the Libertarian Party, said that organizations like College Libertarians are vital to the growth of the party as a whole.

"We definitely need more members, particularly youthful members-absolutely," Redpack said. "I think that's an important way to grow the party, to provide

contacts and promote activism on college campuses."

The National Libertarian Party was founded in 1971 and operates on a party platform that emphasizes personal choice and free markets above government intervention. Redpack characterized it as "conservative on economic issues and liberal on social issues."

Former congressman Bob Barr of Georgia is the current libertarian candidate for president, running with Wayne Allyn Root as his vice president. Barr, a former republican, has drawn concern from some

conservatives who worry that Barr will take votes away from Republican nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), especially in swing states like Ohio and Florida, where races are often won by only slim margins.

Barr will be listed as a presidential candidate on the ballot in 31 states.

Jack Lew's Cayman Islands investment flagged

Talesha Reynolds and Rich Gardella , NBC News 1 day

Jack Lew, President Barack Obamas Treasury Secretary nominee, previously held up to $100,000 in investments in an offshore hedge fund located in the Cayman Islands, according to financial disclosure forms.

Lews financial disclosure forms, filed in 2009 and 2011, showed that Lew had invested between $50,000 and $100,000 in a fund called Citigroup Venture Capital International Growth Partnership (Employee) II, L.P. -- the very type of fund President Obama has repeatedly criticized.

The fund is an international venture capital fund for employees of Citigroup. According to his official White House biography, Lew served as managing director and chief operating officer of Citi Global Wealth Management and then Citi Alternative Investments (CAI) from 2006 to 2008.

Lew himself isn't commenting, but a person familiar with Lews investment told NBC News that Lew invested a total of $56,000 and sold it at a loss for $54,418 in November 2010 after being confirmed as director of the federal Office of Management and Budget.

The source also told NBC News that Lew had no role in creating, managing or operating the fund, and that Citigroup had organized the fund in the Cayman Islands and made it available to other employees. The source said that many other Citigroup employees had investments in the fund.

According to a Securities and Exchange Commission document, the fund was registered at what has been called a notorious address in the Cayman Islands, located in the Caribbean in the British West Indies. Specifically, the funds address was a post office box in a building called Ugland House, in the capital city of George Town on Grand Cayman, the largest of the three Cayman islands.

In 2007 as a presidential candidate and in 2009 as president, Obama identified Ugland House as part of an outrageous tax scam, because according to filings, it housed 12,000 businesses that all claimed the building as their headquarters.

For years, we've talked about shutting down overseas tax havens that let companies set up operations to avoid paying taxes in America, Obama said in remarks about tax reform in 2009. Either this is the largest building in the world, or the largest tax scam in the world. And I think the American people know which it is. That's the kind of tax scam that we need to end.

A political ad targeting Republican candidate Mitt Romney during the 2012 presidential campaign asked, Why would Mitt Romney invest millions in the Cayman Islands?

Solomon Islands Assess Tsunami Damage

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA Six thousand people are now thought to have been made homeless by a tsunami that struck the Solomon Islands Wednesday. The government says at least 13 people were killed. Charities say food and water is running low in makeshift hillside camps where villagers in the Santa Cruz Islands have sought shelter. Another huge aftershock has again rattled the South Pacific archipelago.

The damage inflicted by the tsunami is far worse than first thought, according to disaster management officials in the Solomon Islands. Several people are still missing after a magnitude 8 earthquake triggered a destructive wave that swept through low-lying villages.

At least 10 aftershocks were reported Friday, including a powerful tremor that forced villagers to flee to higher ground, although no tsunami alert was issued. Aftershocks continued Saturday, further unsettling islanders.

Damage to the local airstrip had prevented aid reaching stricken communities, but medical supplies and other essentials are now being delivered.

Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo visited the region Friday and declared it an official disaster zone. His government has received offers of help from its neighbors.

Solomon Islands journalist Dorothy Wickham says Australia and New Zealand have volunteered to join the relief effort.

These two countries might be helping out and maybe we also have the Japanese and European Union here, so I am pretty sure they will be either offering or will be asked for assistance," said Wickham. "But this is going to be a difficult one. It is a very remote place. Boats hardly go there and if it is bad weather it is really tough to get into the communities in that area.

Charity workers say several villages have been destroyed, while many others have been badly damaged. The homeless have sought shelter in makeshift camps, where food and water are becoming increasingly scarce. There are also concerns about sanitation and the spread of the disease.

One aid worker said that many wells were covered by debris or had been contaminated, while water storage tanks had been destroyed and coastal areas littered with dead fish and poultry.
