Freedom Plaza sounds off

By TBO.COM | Staff Published: February 27, 2013 Updated: February 27, 2013 - 12:00 AM

March rarely roars in like a lion at Freedom Plaza, and if March goes out like a lamb, that's only the bleating of golfers out on the course, lamenting missed shots.

The month of March will, however, produce some very explicit sounds around the Freedom Plaza campus.

One of the newest March sounds is exactly that: the march music of John Phillip Sousa or some other rhythmic American music. Fulfilling a requirement to offer a program pertaining to steps in American history, a weekly walking group was formed. Residents step in time around the indoor walking track, exercising to the exhilarating tempos of our own, strictly American music.

Probably the most easily recognizable March sound at Freedom Plaza will be the yipping and yapping of canine conversation at the annual Yappy Hour cocktail party. This event, held on the lawn of Golf View Terrace, Freedom Plaza's townhouse section, has become increasingly popular. It provides the opportunity for the proud pooch owners of Freedom Plaza and those residing in the Sun City Center community to show off their pets as they socialize and enjoy refreshments.

While Yappy Hour, with its contests, entertainment and fun-for-all atmosphere, is a social event, it also serves as a fundraiser for CARE, a local shelter for homeless dogs and cats.

Another unmistakable March sound at Freedom Plaza, and worldwide, is that of Irish music. On St. Patrick's Day, the Freedom Singers will host a musical program that includes a singalong.

For details about Yappy Hour or the Irish Song Fest, which are open to the public, call (813) 633-1992. You will be directed to the proper information source.

Mugen - Cyborg Infinite
I recently picked up ZVitor #39;s Cyborg a few moments ago, since Cyborg happens to be my favorite of the Teen Titans, I had to check him out, and he is amazing. Very fun to play as. That said, while screwing around with Cyborg, I found this little corner infinite. It #39;s somewhat tricky but I managed to get it down.

Southern beaches star in new TV series

Port Willunga Beach in South Australia. Picture: Paula Boreham Source: Supplied

SOUTHERN beaches will be showcased across Australia as filming of a new children's TV series starts next month.

Onkaparinga Council voted at last night's meeting to allow vehicles on Port Noarlunga and Port Willunga beaches while Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures is filmed between Friday, March 1, and Friday, March 15.

Vehicles are normally prohibited from driving on southern beaches between Hallett Cove and Port Willunga.

Council staff recommended the filming be allowed because it would generate local revenue and promote the region.

The children's series, to be aired on Network Ten and the Cartoon Network, is based on action adventure books about a teenager who ventures into the wilderness.

The series, by SLR Productions, will also be distributed internationally.

For more news on the south, pick up a copy of the Southern Times Messenger, read our digital edition online, or become a fan of our Facebook page.

VOLCANO Fine Electronic Cigarettes Partners With the Surfrider Foundation to Rid Oahu Beaches of Ugly, Toxic Cigarette …

HONOLULU, Feb. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Lazily discarded cigarette butts on Hawaii's pristine beaches are more than unsightly; they're also an environmental hazard. CigaretteLitter.org has published research demonstrating the harm that cigarette butts can cause to aquatic life because of the tobacco-related chemicals that leach out. Composed mostly of a fibrous plastic compound, cigarette butts take years to decompose. Sustainable Coastlines recently completed a cleanup project at Kuhio Beach Park where 11 volunteers collected 1,748 butts in one hour. VOLCANO Fine Electronic Cigarettes is sponsoring a similar cleanup effort at Kakaako Waterfront Beach Park on March 30. The Oahu Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is overseeing the cleanup. More than 100 people are expected to participate.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130227/PH67975)

"We are pleased to bring awareness to this issue on the beaches not only of Hawaii but worldwide," explained Cory Smith, owner and CEO of VOLCANO Fine Electronic Cigarettes. "Our electronic cigarettes can end this issue easily because our e-cigs do not have butt discard which pollutes our environment. We applaud the Surfrider Foundation and happily donate to their cause of protecting our coastal areas."

VOLCANO Fine Electronic Cigarettes will be donating to the Surfrider Foundation based on the number of butts collected. More volunteers will mean not only a cleaner beach, but also more funds to fulfill their mission of protecting and sustaining the world's oceans and beaches. Electronic cigarettes, such as the ones manufactured by VOLCANO, have the compelling advantage of producing no cigarette butt litter.

"It's sad when we no longer think of cigarette butts as littering, yet we NEVER clean a beach without finding them," said James McCay of the Surfrider Foundation. "Far from harmless, each of these is a little bundle of toxins that demands attention. The Surfrider Foundation Oahu applauds the work of VOLCANO Fine E-Cigs in raising awareness of these issues and helping to protect the beaches and waters that we all share. As we say in Hawaii, Malama Pono!"

The Surfrider Foundation has more beach clean ups scheduled after the March 30 VOLCANO Fine Electronic Cigarettes sponsored event. Visit oahu.surfrider.org for a calendar of events.

Naked sunbathing outlawed on Fire Island's longtime nude beaches

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Tanlines are here to stay on Fire Island, where New York State law prohibiting naked sunbathing will be enforced on longtime nude beaches that were stripped of their protective dunes by Superstorm Sandy.

Banning nudity on the Fire Island National Seashore had been kicked around for years, but after Sandy and Hurricane Irene flattened the dunes, exposing beach views to the rest of the island, the National Park Service decided to act, chief park ranger Lena Koschmann, said on Wednesday. The ban is effective immediately, she said.

The park service is concerned with nudity and the party atmosphere it seems to inspire, Koschmann said. Prostitution, voyeurism, exhibitionism, public sex and masturbation have all become problems at the beach surrounding the Fire Island Lighthouse.

"This is a national park area and this is not an image we want to promote, that kind of lewd and lascivious behavior," Koschmann said.

Because Fire Island is under concurrent federal and state jurisdiction and no federal law exists prohibiting public nudity, the park has until now allowed nudists.

To minimize shock for lighthouse visitors, the Park Service has warned them they would likely see nudists on the surrounding beaches. The warning, however, wasn't delivered to a group of nuns who, after touring the lighthouse in December 2010, decided to take a walk on the beach.

"They were appalled when they inadvertently walked up to the boundary and were faced with nudity," a park ranger's incident report reads.

With complaints piling up and the shielding dunes swept away, the Park Service decided to immediately begin enforcing New York State penal code 245.01, which prohibits exposure in public, including prohibiting women from exposing their breasts except for the explicit purpose of breast feeding.

Violation of the code is a class B misdemeanor punishable by up to a $5,000 fine and a maximum of six months in prison.

Nude sunbathing on other parts of the island not controlled by the Park Service was expected continue.

UA Astronomy Club student research published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

By RYAN REVOCK Published February 27, 2013 at 2:43am Updated February 27, 2013 at 2:43am

The UA Astronomy Club is researching planets light years away, helping in the search for life on other planets and offering valuable research experience to undergraduates.

In January, the club had its first peer-reviewed article published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

The article reported research from an extrasolar planet project that began in 2009 and is still ongoing, according to Jake Turner, co-founder of the project and a 2011 astronomy and physics graduate. Turner is a research technician at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory.

The extrasolar planet project articles had 26 student authors, with student researchers contributing from New York, Indiana and England.

The goal of the research was to use the transit method to detect the magnetic fields of a planet called TrES-3b, which is 1,300 light-years away from Earth, Turner said. The planet is known as a hot Jupiter because it is extremely close to its star and it is bigger than Jupiter, according to Turner.

The transit method involves measuring the light given off by the star and then studying the light curve when the planet TrES-3b crosses in front of the star. By studying the difference in light, researchers are also able to study the magnetic field of the planet, according to Turner.

Studying the magnetic field of TrES-3b allows researchers to learn about the internal structure of the planet and figure out if it has moons. These are the building blocks for finding life outside our solar system, Turner added.

The magnetic field of Earth protects us from the solar radiation or the high particle solar radiation, and so without our magnetic field, Earth wouldnt be habitable, Turner said. We have not been able to detect the magnetic field in any planet outside our solar system. And so if we can detect them on the biggest planets, then that can be the foundation to detect them on the smaller planets, and then eventually we can search for life outside our solar system.

Allison Towner, a senior studying physics and astronomy and a member of the Astronomy Club, became involved with the extrasolar planet project in fall of 2010.

Aerospace and Defense Stocks: Worth The Risk?

By Bill Edson - February 26, 2013 | Tickers: LMT, NOC, RTN, BA | 0 Comments

Bill is a member of The Motley Fool Blog Network -- entries represent the personal opinion of the blogger and are not formally edited.

The United States overspends on military projects, and as the national debt and sequestration move to the forefront of political debate, this oversized military spending is vulnerable. This is a bad thing for the aerospace/defense industry.

That being said, are there any stocks in this group that are cheap enough to warrant embracing these risks?

Industry challenges

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT)expects a record profit in 2013, even though the company and other suppliers to the Pentagon could witness a decline in spending needed to reduce the U.S. deficit. The company expects to earn a profit of $9.10 per share by 2013; this would be its highest ever. The company projects earnings for a full-year profit in 2013 of $8.80 to $9.10 per share, more than the $8.28 per share average estimate of 22 analysts compiled by Bloomberg. Howard Rubel, an analyst of Jefferies Group, said that the companys performance during the fourth quarter of 2012 displayed a broad-based demand for its offerings. The companys growth in backlog was inspiring, representing a 2% increase to $82.3 billion by 2012.

Two other defense contractors,Raytheon (NYSE: RTN)andGeneral Dynamics, forecasted their 2013 results below analyst predictions. Reduction in the U.S. defense spending of $45 billion through September is expected to be implemented unless President Obama and Congress can agree by March to find an alternative method to reduce the federal deficit.

According Marillyn Hewson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lockheed Martin, As we look at our go-forward plan for this year, we have a very strong portfolio and a solid plan in place. And even as we look at sequestration and potential budget reductions, were not looking at planned job reductions. The companys fate depends upon its biggest program, the F-35 jet fighter, which is also the Pentagons costliest weapon system, with a project development cost of $395.7 billion. During the fourth quarter of 2012, the companys earnings from continuing operations were $569 million, or $1.73 per share, as compared to $698 million, or $2.14 per share, during the fourth quarter of 2011. Meanwhile the average estimates of 21 analysts compiled by the Bloomberg was $1.82 per share profit.

The company is also protected against threat of budget cuts thanks to the Pentagons commitment to the F-35. In January, the company entered into a contract with the Pentagon for its fifth lot of jets, obligating funds and confirming continuous production in spite of the automatic cuts that could take place in March. The company expects to bring to close contracts with the Pentagon for two more lots of the planes by mid-2013 and to commence work on another batch that would turn out jets for Japan and Israel. In 2013, it plans to provide different customers with a total of 36 F-35 jets, or 20% more planes as compared to 2012.

Lockheed and Raytheons profits for 2013 are expected to increase due to tax credits the companies could claim for research and development as per the tax contract signed into law by Obama in February 2013. The law that would extend the tax credit is expected to add 23 cents per share to Lockheeds earnings in 2013 and about 15 cents per share to Raytheons earnings.

By Tengku Noor Shamsiah Tengku Abdullah

SINGAPORE, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- The Singapore aerospace industry achieved a total output of S8.7 billion in 2012, more than double the output a decade ago, says Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of National Development, Lee Yi Shyan.

"The Singapore aerospace industry contributes significantly to our local economy. Since 1990, the industry has grown at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of over 10 per cent.

"Singapore is now a sophisticated Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Hub in Asia. The sector accounts for close to 20,000 well paying jobs," he said in his address at the opening of AeroSpace eXchange 2013 here today.

ASX 2013 is as an integrated one-stop exhibition and conference to facilitate business development and market penetration activities for the niche aerospace industry, and aviation industry as a whole.

It is organised by the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore) or AAIS, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting competitiveness within Singapore's aerospace industries.

"Our vision is for Singapore to be an aerospace hub with a comprehensive range of capabilities. To help us achieve this, we are developing the Seletar Aerospace Park to meet the growing and diverse needs of the aerospace industry," he said.

Lee said leading international aerospace companies such as Rolls-Royce, Jet Aviation, Eurocopter, Fokker Services Asia, Hawker Pacific Asia and Execujet have found a home in the SAP.

He noted many of the republic's home-grown SMEs such as Wah Son Engineering, Tri-Wing Aviation Resources and Air Transport Training College are establishing themselves there too.

According to the 2010 Singapore Aerospace Manpower Landscape Study, Lee said, the industry will require more than 6,300 new direct employees by 2015.

Aerospace giant EADS lifts profits, sales in 2012

European aerospace giant EADS said Wednesday it achieved a strong rise in sales and earnings last year on the back of record sales at commercial aircraft maker Airbus and stable defence business.

EADS said in a statement it booked net profit of 1.228 billion euros ($1.6 billion) last year, a rise of 19 percent over the year-earlier figure.

Underlying or operating profit, as measured by earnings before interest and tax and one-off items, rose to 3.0 billion euros from 1.8 billion euros in 2011.

And revenues grew by 15 percent to 56.48 billion euros, the statement said.

"EADS achieved strong revenue and underlying profit growth for the full year 2012. Despite a difficult macroeconomic environment, EADS saw continued momentum in its commercial activities while defence revenues were broadly stable," the company said.

On the back of this, EADS said it would propose an increased dividend of 0.60 euros per share for 2012, compared with 0.45 euros per share for 2011.

Looking ahead to the current year, EADS said it was projecting underlying or operating profit of 3.5 billion euros, "provided the world economy and air traffic grow in line with prevailing independent forecasts and there are no major disruption due to the current sovereign debt crisis."

EADS said its commercial aircraft maker Airbus achieved record deliveries last year, handing over a total 588 airplanes to customers, including 30 A380 superjumbos.

That drove Airbus's commercial revenues up by 18.6 percent to 36.943 billion euros and its overall sales up by 17 percent to 38.592 billion euros.

Airbus's underlying profit more than doubled to 1.23 billion euros.

Nutrition Supplement Retailer Muscular Development Store Comments On The Benefits of Whey Protein

In response to an article published by the Atlanta Black Star, which lists foods that can build muscle, nutrition supplement retailer Muscular Development store affirms the value of whey protein in the muscle-building process.

Setauket, NY (PRWEB) February 27, 2013

Atlanta Black Star describes 10 essential foods to adopt into your diet to promote protein synthesis instead of adding pounds of fat. Atlanta Black Star recommended that athletes should eat protein-rich food while implementing a resistance-training program.

According to Atlanta Black Star, athletes wanting to build muscle should eat foods with a lot of protein because amino acids repair tissue and promote muscle growth. Some of these foods include organic bison meat, coldwater fish and Kefir, a popular European drink containing probiotics.

Atlanta Black Star reported a study which revealed people who eat a variety of meat are more successful at building muscle due to available variations of amino acids, while vegetarians only eating plant-based proteins were slower to gain muscle mass.

Brian Turner, a spokesperson for the Muscular Development Store, said people who eat meat for protein could also benefit from introducing whey into their diet. Whey protein, according to Turner, is a great supplement to increase endurance, prevent fatigue and increase energy level. If people dont want to eat steak or chicken all the time to build muscle, they can replace the meat with whey, he said. Whey protein contains high amounts of amino acids, such as phenylalanine, arginine, glutamine, proline and tryptophan. All of these help promote cell regeneration, tissue repair, improvements in immune systems and healing.

Turner said if you want to see results and build muscle, athletes should consume whey protein before or after a workout to get the nutrients needed to perform, but also recover.

A good fitness regimen must be augmented with proper nutrition. At the Muscular Development Supplement Store, we offer products to enhance your workout and maximize the fitness benefits of your routine. We negotiate the lowest possible prices from manufacturers, and are proud to offer bestselling, brand-name sports nutrition products well below the suggested retail price.

"When paired with a balanced diet, the addition of a natural daily probiotic, like Florastor, can provide extra digestive and immunity support, helping to promote overall health," said Neville. "For National Nutrition Month, I encourage people to do their research and to take time to think about the balance of their diet and where their nourishment is coming from. Place a focus on probiotics and nutrition by committing to a well-rounded diet and incorporating an all-natural daily probiotic supplement, like Florastor, to help support the natural balance of the digestive tract and a strong immune system."

About Probiotic SupplementsProbiotic supplements help the good organisms in your intestines grow and get rid of the bad organisms that can disrupt normal intestinal function. Probiotic dietary supplements are grouped into two categories, yeast or bacteria, which interact with the body differently. Probiotic supplements containing bacteria are made up of different strains that are good for various tasks, so their effects may vary. Yeast-based Florastor contains 250 mg of active Saccharomyces boulardii lyo, a friendly yeast found naturally on the skin of the tropical fruits lychee and mangosteen. Probiotic yeast like the yeast found in Florastor can increase the production of immunoglobulin A (IgA), the primary infection-fighting antibody. This factor works to maintain a balanced digestive tract and support the function of the immune system. Additionally, unlike bacterial probiotics, yeast-based probiotics are not compromised by antibiotics. Most bacterial probiotic supplements require refrigeration, but the yeast in Florastor does not, making Florastor and FlorastorKids ideal probiotics for traveling.

About Florastor SupplementsFlorastor is the world's most widely used probiotic and is unique because it is the only friendly yeastbased probiotic available in most retail pharmacies throughout the United States. Florastor is safe to take with antibiotics and has versatile options appropriate for adults and children as young as two months. Nutrition 2.0: ‘Closer than you think’ and a ‘tremendous technical and business opportunity’

Tremendous opportunities await the nutrition industry as it embarks upon a modernized scientific approach to address nutrition, health/wellness and aging, says the Chief Executive Officer of a Silicon Valley company at the cutting edge of R&D.

A new nutrition paradigm, Nutrition 2.0, is a lot closer than one would think, said Guy Miller, MD, PhD, CEO Edison Pharmaceuticals, Executive Chairman Ampere Life Sciences, and it starts with debunking the Zeitgeist of one-size-fits-all nutrition.

Millers Blueprint for Nutrition 2.0, focuses on three core elements that includes modernizing the definition of vitamin; embracing new discovery technologies, and amassing and querying big data sets. This represents a tremendous opportunity and a technical feeding ground, he said, whether companies are focused on innovation, corporate economics, or both.

Some companies will embrace innovation and the resulting disruptive technologies while others will not, said Dr Miller. Some will be in denial like Kodak, not embrace innovation and squander 1st mover advantage and capital. Kodaks denial about a photography business model without traditional Kodak film, in spite of virtually inventing digital photography, is a poignant example.

Speculative, claims-based marketing to consumers, absent scientific data, will in the future yield to solid science, and premium nutrition products that deliver on their stated benefits.

Millers Blueprint for Nutrition 2.0

In his Blueprint for Nutrition 2.0, Dr Miller emphasizes essential elements for a global modernization of nutrition R&D. There are three aspects to Millers blueprint:

1) Modernize the definition and advance the discovery of new vitamins. Nutrition 1.0 is predicated largely on a one size fits all approach to vitamins, phytonutrients, and metabolic building blocks. This is antithetic to current data. Different individuals with variable genetic compositions, at different ages under various physiologic challenges require fundamentally different nutrients at different quantities.
