Freedom Drug Rehab Announces New Website Design

Southern Michigans Freedom Treatment Center offers individualized recovery programs to help people overcome drug and alcohol addiction and sustain a life of successful recovery. Although the center is located in the Midwest, it continues to expand its reach and impact with the introduction of its new website design.

Albion, MI (PRWEB) March 15, 2013

Our center is always looking for new ways to raise awareness about addiction and recovery, said Freedom Treatment Center representative Brian Kuehne, and our new website design is a great tool with which to do it. Its cleaner, neater and simpler than our old design, making it much easier for website visitors from across the nation and the world get an overall feel for who we are, what we do and how we do it.

The main menu contains front-line information options, offering links from Freedom Treatment Centers homepage, the programs offered, the treatment methods, the blog, the location and the About page with background information on the center. Other options available from the main page include an in-depth rundown on the centers counseling options, the centers environment, the life-skills learning program and the sauna detox.

Photos featuring interior and exterior views of the center provide more background on the environment while a featured blog post allows site visitors to glance at the latest news and views. A listing of the major insurance carriers the center accepts also graces the main page, instantly answering one of the foremost questions many have about insurance coverage.

One more major perk on the main page is the Addiction Quick Jump section that allows viewers to click on the name of any drug in the alphabetical listing to learn more about abuse and addiction to that particular substance. Each page in the new design follows suit, with an easy-to-read, attractive format.

Our new website design truly reflects what Freedom Drug Rehab is all about, Kuehne said. We are here to raise awareness, educate, counsel, detoxify and help as many people as we can enjoy life to the fullest. Our website clearly shows that enjoyment can come from recovery.

Located in a semi-residential pocket of Southern Michigan, Freedom Treatment Center provides the soothing and safe environment and assistance so vital for helping people overcome drug and alcohol addiction. Treatment begins with a natural detoxification and continues with counseling, education and lifestyle changes that help ensure an ongoing and successful recovery.

"Pay-if-you-like" sci-fi adventure Dead Cyborg ‘s sequel is out now

Finally adds mouse support.

By Jeffrey Matulef Published Wednesday, 13 March 2013

Indie designer Endre Barath has released the follow-up to his "pay-if-you-like" sci-fi first-person adventure game Dead Cyborg.

Dead Cyborg: Episode 2 continues the saga as an amnesiac explores a ruinous corroded world after awakening from cryosleep eons after the apocalypse. I played the first Dead Cyborg back in the day and while I had issues with its arbitrary puzzle design, poorly translated text, and peculiar lack of mouse support, I admired its haunting, decrepit environments and exploration of such sci-fi tropes as identity, religion, and the meaning of life. It was especially impressive being the work of only one man.

This sequel finally adds mouse support - like every other first-person game from the last 20 years - so that already makes it several degrees better than the original.

As the Dead Cyborg episodes are a pay-what-you-want affair Barath will use whatever donations he accrues to fund the next episode. According the the official site, Dead Cyborg: Episode 2 fell $300 under its goal, but that was close enough that Barath made it anyway. It looks like Episode 3 is already 10 per cent underway and at one point the series was rated 57th on Steam Greenlight.

Check out the trailer for Dead Cyborg: Episode 2 below and if you're intrigued, feel free to download it for PC, Mac and Linux at the official Dead Cyborg site.

Aerospace takes sequester hit

Sequestration has begun and the defense industry is beginning to take stock.

The Aerospace Industries Association, for one, went all in during the year-and-a-half long battle to stave it off and lost. The leading voice of defense contractors and aircraft manufacturers spent significant time, energy and money making the case that deep cuts to defense and discretionary funding would harm not only the nations economy but also its security.

But as the March 1 deadline passed without intervention by Congress and the White House, the budget cuts and corresponding Pentagon furloughs are being ushered in. Ripple effects for defense vendors, large and small, are expected to follow.

Nevertheless, AIA led by its high-profile CEO, Marion Blakey is not giving up the fight.

Were not going to stop, said Francis Sheller, the associations vice president of communications. The battles not over.

For the first time in the history of the defense industry, we at AIA all came together on a major policy issue, he said. Given the fact that this is a long-term battle, its got long-term value.

AIA wouldnt say how much it spent specifically on making the case against sequestration besides estimating that the number is significantly under $1 million. Overall, AIAs education campaign, called Second to None, spent around $2 million over the past year.

As sequestration unfolds, defense analysts predict that the opportunities for AIA to say, I told you so will abound.

Sequestration wasnt just a light switch that you flip on on March 1, and everything bad happens, said Cord Sterling, AIAs vice president for legislative affairs. It is a process that now has been set in motion. The longer it goes on, the more damage it will do to the economy, the industrial base and to the federal agencies and their missions. Obviously, were trying to get [lawmakers] to focus on resolving this as soon as possible by some mechanism.

Defense consultant Loren Thompson, who works closely with many of the big companies that form AIAs membership, agreed that time will tell just how influential AIAs voice was in the sequestration fight.

Army making open-source physiology engine

http://www.armytimes.com/news/2013/03/TSJ-030813-peck-physiology-army/

By Michael Peck - Staff writer Posted : Tuesday Mar 12, 2013 12:20:40 EDT

An open-source physiology engine that anyone can use to develop medical simulations is being developed by the U.S. Armys Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center.

Its not altruism thats spurring the $7 million PhACTS (Physiologically Accurate Community-based platform for Training Systems) project. Rather, TATRC hopes that the new engine will enable the public to develop medical simulations that will benefit military as well as civilian medicine.

We thought if we had an engine that we could give away freely to everybody, it would make it a lot easier for everyone to experiment with the simulations that use them, and make it less expensive for people to develop their own novel things, said Thomas Talbot, chief scientist at TATRCs Armed Forces Simulation Institute for Medicine. Current physiology simulations are either oriented toward university research, or are only available as expensive commercial products.

But TATRC is paying contractor Applied Research Associates, which won the project in February, for open-source licensing of a product that ARA will own, but that the public can download from a Web site.

People could use this for their own for-profit products, said Talbot, a former Army pediatrician turned medical simulations researcher.

PhACTS will be based on an existing ARA physiology engine called HumanSim.

It will be based on a common data model that will create standard inputs and outputs, making it easy to extend this format to additional models. The platform will be modular and extensible, said ARA researcher Rachel Clipp. PhACTS will not generate fancy visuals of the human body, other than simple graphics like an electrocardiogram. What it will do is provide the underlying models so a medical simulation can realistically depict how the body responds to various stimuli such as drugs.

Though PhACTS will be dual-use, it will also contain specific military features, such as modeling blast injuries. Perhaps just as important, the physiology engine will include plug-ins for various game engines, including Unreal and Unity.

Healthy tips for National Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month and the arrival of Spring is just around the corner which means it is the perfect time to make over your fridge and pantry to rearrange, diminish clutter, and make space for healthy and tasty food!. Melissa Herrmann Dierks RD, LDN, CDE has some quick tips for a healthy kitchen check-up on what foods and beverages you should stock up on for a healthier fridge and pantry this season! National Nutrition Month is a perfect time for us to learn more about the importance of making informed food and beverage choices so we can develop more sound eating habits to support a healthy lifestyle. The more you know, the better your plan will be. Keep in mind that a healthy diet is about balance, variety and moderation. Labeling individual foods or beverages as simply good or bad is not productive and typically does not work for a long term strategy. Its best to really learn about calories, fiber and fat so you can make the best decisions about what will work best for you and your diet goals.

Here are some quick tips to get started with your healthy kitchen check-up:

1. Read food labels and look for at least 3 grams of fiber in the breads, cereals, bagels, English Muffins, and rolls in your kitchen. Fiber is found in plant foods and helps with digestion, weight management and controlling blood sugar.

2. Aim for cheese that offers no more than 3 grams of fat per one ounce serving. Low- fat cheese helps with weight management and keeping your diet heart healthy.

3. Look for whole wheat or whole grain pasta and brown rice. Whole grains offer a variety of health benefits and tastes great!

4. Make sure your kitchen contains a variety of vegetable options including fresh, frozen or canned. Avoid butter or cheese sauces. Canned vegetables can be an affordable way to increase vegetable intake, if possible look for reduced sodium versions or pour the liquid off to reduce sodium intake.

5. Do you have healthy fats on hand such as a healthy margarine like Brummel and Brown, olive oil, avocado, walnuts, almonds or reduced fat salad dressing? Avoid stick margarines which often contain trans fats, and full-fat salad dressings that can be loaded with calories.

6. Don't forget about healthy hydration. Too often we mistaken hunger for thirst and that could lead to overindulgence and dehydration. While water is best, you may want a little flavor so look to a beverage such as vitaminwater zero with its excellent blend of B and C vitamins. It tastes great and has zero calories. If soda is a favorite, choose diet soda or look for the 90 calorie mini can size options.

Supermarket Savvy offers a Name Brand Shopping List at http://www.supermarketsavvy.com that lists healthy food choices by brand name making shopping easier. http://www.choosemyplate.gov can help you determine your calorie needs and provides information on healthy food choices.

Access to Nutrition Index Calls on World´s Largest Food & Beverage Manufacturers to Address Global Nutrition Challenges

The report assesses the nutrition-related commitments, performance and disclosure practices of 25 of the worlds largest food and beverage manufacturers as measured against international guidelines, norms and accepted best practices.

Danone, Unilever and Nestle are the top performers on the ATNI, receiving the highest scores on both the obesity and undernutrition rankings. But even the top performers have significant room for improvement with the highest score being 6.3 on a 10.0 point scale. In addition, both Danone and Nestle have been reported to be in violation of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes, which affected their scores. The ATNI recommends that both companies, along with other breast-milk substitute manufacturers, take immediate action to ensure full compliance with the International Code.

"Obesity and undernutrition affect billions of people and threaten a global health catastrophe. The Access to Nutrition Index is an urgent call to action for food and beverage manufacturers to integrate improved nutrition into their business strategies. It is not only good for public health; it is a business imperative and key to their long-term sustainability, " said Inge Kauer, Executive Director of ATNI.

The three-year initiative was funded by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust. Development of ATNI was housed at GAIN and involved an extensive, multi-stakeholder process that included input from governments, international organizations, civil society, academia, and investors at every phase of the process. It was also guided by advice from an independent, multi-stakeholder advisory panel and a group of experts on nutrition. Company research and assessments were conducted by MSCI ESG Research using publicly available documents supplemented by additional information requested from each company.

ATNI evaluated companies on:

"The Access to Nutrition Index offers companies a comprehensive, independent assessment of how well their practices align with competitors in the food and beverage industry and provides benchmarks against which they can improve their approach to nutrition, " said Keith Bezanson, chair of the ATNI Independent Advisory Panel. "The aim is to promote a more objective public debate and encourage companies to do more to address nutritional needs of customers."

Thirty-nine investment organizations which collectively manage more than USD 2.6 trillion in assets have signed a statement of support for the Index. The ATNI Investor Statement recognizes health and nutrition as drivers of future growth in the food and beverage sector, and that those manufacturers that are most effective in anticipating and responding to these factors will be better positioned to deliver superior and more sustained financial performance.

Key findings include:

The report challenges companies to:

Later this year, ATNI will also publish three Spotlight Indexes assessing 10 of the largest food and beverage manufacturers operating in India, Mexico and South Africa, respectively. The ATNI Global Index will be published every two years.
