Two uninhabited islands are due to get street names even though no-one lives on them because of council rules, local broadcaster RTV Noord reported on Friday.
The Wadden Sea islands of Rottumeroog and Rottumerplaat must have street names because the forestry commission has placed a small building on each one.
Harald Bouwman, an executive for Eemsmond council, admits the plan is odd but says his hands are tied. 'But if we don't name the streets, we may not be doing our job properly and could fail a performance audit,' he told the broadcaster.
All buildings should be located on a proper road, and placing street names is a pragmatic solution, he said.
The forestry commission has written to the council ridiculing the plans. If the islands have streets, the council must also ensure post can be delivered, RTV Noord quoted the letter as saying.

LONDON (Reuters) - Pitching tougher rules on tax evasion to the G8 is a precarious undertaking for Prime Minister David Cameron. Britain's own tax havens are world leaders.
Britain's list of exotic Overseas Territories reads like an accountant's dream menu for a cash-rich Russian oligarch with something to hide, while British lawyers lead the field as gatekeepers for elaborate global mazes of offshore trusts.
Global tax evasion could be costing more than $3 trillion a year according to researchers from Tax Justice Network while as much as $32 trillion - twice the size of U.S. gross domestic product - could be hidden by individuals in tax havens.
"British tax havens are world leaders in providing a particular type of secrecy," said John Christensen, an economist who directs the Tax Justice Network and who began investigating offshore havens in 1978.
From the families of Asian government officials to the new rich of the former Soviet Union, court cases and data leaks have shown many wealthy individuals favor Britain's modern day treasure islands as the place to park their millions.
Tax authorities scouring a huge batch of leaked data said last month that the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands were among those housing shell companies and trusts to hide wealth.
Once buccaneer havens, many of the sleepy former British colonies now live off a blend of beach tourism and exotic finance that activists say leaves both locals and distant taxpayers short-changed.
CORPORATE STING
Stung by revelations that the likes of Google (GOOG.O) and Starbucks (SBUX.O) have sharply cut their corporate tax bills in Britain using legal loopholes, Cameron has put tax avoidance at the heart of the agenda for the G8 summit.

Crowdedness and pushy vendors, a growing thorn in Balis side, doesnt apply to the Gilis; where there is still enough space for everybody on the beach to pick a comfortable spot with minimal disturbance from vendors.

Its called the Affordable Care Act, but President Barack Obamas health care law may turn out to be unaffordable for many low-wage workers, including employees at big chain restaurants, retail stores and hotels.
That might seem strange since the law requires medium-sized and large employers to offer affordable coverage or face fines.
But whats reasonable? Because of a wrinkle in the law, companies can meet their legal obligations by offering policies that would be too expensive for many low-wage workers. For the employee, its like a mirage attractive but out of reach.
The company can get off the hook, say corporate consultants and policy experts, but the employee could still face a federal requirement to get health insurance.
Many are expected to remain uninsured, possibly risking fines. Thats due to another provision: the law says workers with an offer of affordable workplace coverage arent entitled to new tax credits for private insurance, which could be a better deal for those on the lower rungs of the middle class.
Some supporters of the law are disappointed. It smacks of todays Catch-22 insurance rules.
Some people may not gain the benefit of affordable employer coverage, acknowledged Ron Pollack, president of Families USA, a liberal advocacy group leading efforts to get uninsured people signed up for coverage next year.
It is an imperfection in the new law, Pollack added. The new law is a big step in the right direction, but it is not perfect, and it will require future improvements.
Andy Stern, former president of the Service Employees International Union, the 2-million-member service-sector labor union, called the provision an avoidance opportunity for big business. SEIU provided grass-roots support during Obamas long struggle to push the bill through Congress.
The law is complicated, but essentially companies with 50 or more full-time workers are required to offer coverage that meets certain basic standards and costs no more than 9.5 percent of an employees income. Failure to do so means fines for the employer. (Full-time work is defined as 30 or more hours a week, on average.)

Q: As Fords first and only in-house futurist, what exactly are you trying to achieve?
A: It takes Ford Motor Co. three years to bring a vehicle to market, so even if we have the most ingenious idea today, what feels cutting edge at this point might not be. We have no crystal ball, but we can look to five arenas for guidance: social, technological, economic, environmental and political.
Q: Why those five arenas?
A: You start there because youll never be able to predict the future, but those will be the forces that shape the landscape. It gives us a framework to play in this space of What if? and If so, then what? You talk about the possibilities, and then you explore what it means for the industry what it does to demand, supply, competitors, retail, the distribution network. Only if youve explored all of that do you even ask what that means for Ford.
Q: What timeline are you looking at?
A: The most distant function in the Ford team is advanced product research and engineering. Theyre trying to figure out what technologies are on the horizon and what to invest in. Their time horizon is 10, 20 years out.
