Know the truth and the truth will set you free!
Freedom, a paradox of our world
One of the keywords of our world today is freedom. Many of the themes of discussion about our life systems are spinning around the concept of freedom. Freedom became nowadays even a trading value, reorganized comparing with the old era of slavery. But freedom is deeply related with other notions like responsibility, knowledge, compassion, sacrifice, and love. Some spiritual traditions are saying that freedom is a golden chain. Even if it sounds paradoxical this statement (the association between freedom and a chain even made of gold might sound like a paradox), just looking around us will give an unmistakable confirmation for it. In our world today, we are facing sometimes-paradoxical situations even greater than the golden chain of freedom. Today we are talking about notions like fight for peace or war on terror as part of our daily life concepts. If nowadays peace is obtained with fight and terror is cured with war than we should not be amazed that freedom is just another chain made of gold.
Let us take as an example how the idea of freedom develops for an individual. A newborn child is so charming because his spontaneity is coming from a freedom that is unspoiled by any personality yet. The amazed eyes of a little child express the best this state of inner freedom to abandon in the protective hands of life. When the child grows into a teenager the first notions about individuality, pleasure and ego comes into the attention. The first reaction is to liberate from the tyranny of the parents, the protective hands. The teenager has a strong impression that he needs to be free and this becomes his principle of living thus his first chain. In the name of this freedom he becomes anarchic. The way he walks, talks and dresses, expresses almost all 0f the time the tendency to contradict what he has learnt until then. In the case of the newborn child freedom was associated with total surrender, thus the child has this capacity to take everything as it is, being in the state of natural freedom.
The moment he grows up and become more aware about himself, he begins to be enslaved by the tendency to interfere and to impose his newly awakened will thus becoming an anarchist. He breaks the rules but he is not aware about the consequences of his acts or why those rules were in place. He exists at this level only to break the rules and freedom is often measured by the rules he have broken.Out of this attitude the teenager is making mistakes that hurt him and the people around. Due to this fact while reaching adulthood he is already wrapped into new sets of rules that are the results of the traumatic experiences from puberty. Gradually the anarchic freedom is replaced by the idea of responsibility. Trading freedom for responsibility leads the teenager to adulthood through a continuously growing labyrinth of rules and conventions. In this way, the so-called adulthood is just a set of predefined rules among which freedom is just one of them. Freedom becomes just a dry concept used to cover most of the time the fears we have in front of any form of superior authority. The responsible adults gradually lose their appetite for life because life is deeply related to freedom. Solving this apparently conflicting situation will become the reason for searching the truth. Nevertheless, while struggling with the self-imposed rules the adult begins to understand life and the more he understands it the more he values the power of the truth that brings back the ineffable feeling of freedom without killing the responsibility.First, the adult is squeezed from all the directions by the rules he assumed before, in the early years of his life. Trying to survive the routine of an responsible existence buried in rigid rules and conventions, the adult is forced to realize the limitations that are imposed by these rules and the freedom given by the truth in the shape of the right knowledge. Here begins the spiritual transformation.
Freedom and searching for the truth
From this moment on the individual is searching for the truth as a solution to solve the conflict between responsibility in life and freedom. Nevertheless, freedom has more to reveal. The first attempt will be to become an egoistic seeker for the truth, caring only about himself. When this attempts to find the truth will become a very rigid and sometimes painful practice of a doctrine, than in the soul of the aspirant and out of this spiritual suffering starts to grow love and compassion for all the beings around. Thus, the individual enters the Christic legacy of those that are free to love and to sacrifice for the good and happiness of their beloved ones.As we can see, freedom is an idea that constantly pushes us further in our evolution. We can say from this perspective that the only moments when we experience freedom is when we are on the path of transformation. Unfortunately these days we can see freedom associated with ignorance and thus turning into the strangest paradox.
This is the level that our civilization is at today. We can see clearlly this in the case of the concept in fashion preventive strikes! To see the whole absurdity lets complete the picture: after 2000 years of Christianity a doctrine based on the idea turn the other cheek we, the Christians, synthesized our experience in the idea better to strike first!!! Until now the church was imposing very strict ways to look upon different matters of life and the conflict situations where among them. It was the era of childhood. But nowadays we feel freer from the church doctrine (which failed to adapt to the rapid transformations in the world) and out of this freedom we created such an anarchic paradox! Moreover, we did that because we dropped the rules without replacing them with the proper knowledge. We are not ready to be free! In this way we proved to be in the puberty with our civilization, experiencing the difficult times of this period. If we look carefully, we can even see the teenagers pimples on George Bushs brain and heart expressing a reality for the most majority. Let us hope together that our humanity will get out of this puberty without hideous scars as a mark of our classes on freedom. Tantra the consciously assumed freedom solution to the modern freedom Today, freedom is reflected differently by the two fundamental currents: science and religion. If religion is asking us to believe without questioning its sets of values proposed, science is questioning everything thus ending up with a relative conclusion on anything. Caught in this dilemma the modern society is struggling between blindly assumed moral rules leading to rigidity and intolerance and complete denial of any need for moral rules making us lose the fundamental purpose of our life. Apparently, these two extremes cannot be conciliated. On one hand, religion is giving us a higher purpose in life and a certain direction but make this without any explanation by imposing rules that often cannot be understood. On the other hand, modern science is teaching us to dare to question anything but fails in finding a higher purpose for our life.Speaking from the point of view of freedom in the first case we are told what to do with our freedom but without being told how to get there and in the second case we are pushed to have the freedom which does not have a meaning. The ancient concept of tantra is giving here the genius solution. Tantra means network so the tantric system is the system that find the links and the correlations that exist between everything. The Tantric system brings the scientific method into the spiritual life creating in this way a form of spiritual science, which represents the synthesis between religion, and science. We can say from this perspective that tantra provides a staircase from slavery to freedom. The method used in tantra is the conscious approach on every experience of life. Experiencing life in full awareness will allow us to receive a very efficient feedback, to learn fast about the consequences of our actions and becoming in this way free of any fantasies, daydreams or illusions. As we previously saw, we lose our freedom when we blindly assume certain rules or when we blindly deny any rules. However, tantra is not saying dont eat that or eat only this but is saying, be aware that if you eat that you will have these consequences and if you eat this youll have these consequences. For this reason, tantra was often considered to be the science of life, linking in a harmonious whole net all the genuine science and all the genuine religious systems.Freedom in this way becomes a measure for our awareness, a result of knowing the truth, truth that is revealed by life itself once we wake up from the dream of our daily life. The tantric is not questioning everything but is experiencing everything in full awareness. The tantric is not taking anything for granted but is open to experience. In this way, tantra is replacing the dogma with life experience and dry theories with direct understanding. There is no more need for building a fence of taboos around something that is not good or is dangerous because with this new attitude we will know precisely what is not good or what is dangerous, what is harmonious or what is good. Life becomes a chain of spiritual lessons through which we get to know the Truth which will set us free.

DaVita Receives Freedom Award, U.S. Government’s Highest Military-Friendly Honor for Employers
PLEASANTON, Calif., June 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Safeway Inc. (SWY) has been selected to receive the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the nation's highest honor given to employers for exceptional support of National Guard and Reserve employees. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an office of the Department of Defense, announced the award recipients today.
(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130625/SF38175LOGO)
Safeway is one of six large companies to be honored with the prestigious Freedom Award. Nine other award recipients are small- to mid-sized businesses or public-sector employers. The recipients, who were chosen from a pool of nearly 3,000 nominated private and public sector employers, were selected for their demonstrated programs, policies and achievements in support and hiring members of the National Guard and Reserve.
"I commend and thank the 15 recipients of the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for providing exceptional support to our Citizen Warriors," said Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. "So many of our Nation's employers are finding ways to contribute to our Nation's security, but these employers stand out for their commitment to our Guardsmen and Reservists. They have the gratitude and thanks of the entire Department of Defense."
"Providing employment opportunities and training to our men and women in uniform and veterans are among the most important public services we perform," said Safeway's President and Chief Executive Officer, Robert Edwards. "We are honored to be among a select group of private and public sector organizations who can now call themselves Freedom Award recipients."
Safeway has a long history of commitment to men and women in the military. The company was among the first employers to commit (more than 10 years ago) to cover the pay differential and extend full benefits to employees in the Reserve and National Guard called to active duty. Safeway continues to provide this benefit. The company has aggressively responded to the need for employment with returning veterans through its Junior Military Officer and Non-Commissioned Officer (JMO/NCO) Program. In 2012, Safeway hired nearly 1,500 veterans with over 1,300 of them hired into the company's retail stores. Safeway has also committed to hiring at least another 1,500 veterans by the end of 2013. While the majority of Safeway's Store Managers and Assistant Managers are promoted from its internal ranks, the company's Human Resources team recognized the untapped talent pool in the military.
"We saw an opportunity to recruit new kinds of leaders who will become an important and critical part of our future," said Larree Renda, Safeway Executive Vice President. "Our JMO and NCO recruiting program officially launched in 2010. We accept applicants who have been officers or non-commissioned officers in the military and place them in an accelerated leadership program."
Graduates qualify for Store Manager and Assistant Manager jobs and a range of other manager-level positions in the distribution and backstage departments at Safeway. The 41-week intensive training program includes a combination of on-the-job training, mentoring, classroom seminars, job shadowing and independent study, as well as participating in numerous department and key leadership strategy sessions. At the end of the program, participants are qualified to hold a number of leadership positions, including Store Manager and Warehouse Superintendent.
In addition to Safeway's JMO/NCO program, Safeway's Retail Military Recruiting efforts were launched in 2012 to increase efforts in hiring veterans of all backgrounds into our retail store environment.
In 2011, the company launched an annual Veterans Day weekend fundraiser. To date, Safeway has collected and donated more than $2 million to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and other organizations that help veterans recover from service-related injuries and/or return to the civilian workforce. Our various divisions also participate in local fundraisers and community service initiatives to support our country's heroes. These programs are in addition to ongoing commitments to continue full benefits for Safeway employees who are called to active duty, and to ship care packages more than 2,000 to date to soldiers overseas.

Alabama's Beaches to Welcome Legendary Coaches and Players for SEC BeachFest in August
In the first few years of knowing Amelia, we shared in lip-syncing VH1 music videos, telling scary stories over campfires and jumping trampoline. It's what I like to think of as classic kid stuff.
Most lastingly, we connected over a shared fascination with the natural world around us, specifically the delicate bond between animals and humans.
We spent days and nights tramping around the woods and wetlands that surrounded our houses, scooping everything from tadpoles to garter snakes out from under logs, out of the muck and from the water. We easily, and I believe, maturely, grasped at the complex and fragile balance between these creatures and ourselves a lesson not just in respect for the environment, but in responsibility to it.
Now entering our 20s, as my path has led me down new avenues, Amelias current work reflects her lifelong desire to explore, protect and improve the quality of the environment and its diversity of inhabitants.
This summer, Amelia is partaking in the Central Michigan University Gull Exclusion Study.
In the words of Elizabeth Wheeler, who is one of the professors heading the project: Our overarching objective in this study is public health. She explains that over the past decades, the gull population on public beaches has exceeded normal levels. This has led to conflicts between gull and humans due to bacteria and other microorganisms, which the birds carry to public beaches.
The study seeks to answer two questions: (1) Can border collies discourage gulls from landing at public beaches? And (2) will keeping gulls off the public beaches keep the bacteria levels in swimming water and beach sand at acceptable levels?
Amelias job entails handling a docile, 16-month-old border collie named Darla for morning and evening shifts at the beach.
Darla was previously trained to chase geese off military runways in North Carolina. But now her task is to chase gulls specifically ring-billed and herring gulls from West Michigan beaches.
Amelias and Darlas beach shifts are currently being conducted at North Shore Beach, paired with Kirk Park as the other treatment location. These beaches are treated by the collies against two control beaches: Grand Haven City Beach and a private beach with the Grand Haven Beach Association, which are left alone for the gulls to do as they please.

Beach access at the end of side roads off State Road A1A, Cape Canaveral Approximate distance from Orlando: 1 hour Fee: None Yes, the other East Coast beaches are better-known and more popular Cocoa Beach, for instance but thats where everyone goes. Sometimes the busier beaches can get so crowded on a hot summer day that they make you feel more like a greasy sardine in a sea of sunblock than a basking mermaid on a sparkling shore. So one sweltering day, while wandering the coast in search of a reasonably bare spot to lay a blanket in the sand, we stopped in Cape Canaveral, just south of the cruise terminal. We traveled along A1A, turned down a side road, headed toward the shoreline and found that, just like in Cocoa, practically every side street ends in a beach-access boardwalk leading over the pretty and surprisingly pristine dunes. The beaches are wide and spacious, littered with pretty seashells and (unlike Cocoa, which requires you to bring your own body weight in quarters to feed the meters) the parking was FREE. And there was plenty to go around. Theres no pier, no Ron Jon Surf Shop and not as many weird beach-bum bars and restaurants. But those are for tourists, anyway. ____________________________________________________________
Beach access is via State Road 402 (Beach Road), Titusville Approximate distance: 1.5 hours Fee: $5 per car What theyll tell you about Playalinda Beach in the guidebooks is that its a pristine natural seashore, one of the few spots on Central Floridas east coast thats unspoiled by development, high-rise hotels or traffic. You can sometimes spot dolphins in the water or sea turtle nests along the beach. And, if you travel way up to the furthest parking lot, youll almost certainly encounter naturists who, even though this is not technically a nude beach, have long used it as a gathering place. If you want just the dolphins and pretty seashore, park anywhere. If you want the nude beach experience, drive all the way to the end, to parking area No. 13. Keep your clothes on until you get across the boardwalk to the beach, though. Even though the authorities often look the other way when it comes to nude sunbathing here, its still illegal. ____________________________________________________________
2995 N. Peninsula Ave., New Smyrna Beach Approximate distance: 1.5 hours Fee: $5 per car Though this beach isnt located on the open ocean its actually on the tip of the New Smyrna Beach peninsula where the Ponce Inlet, Indian River and the Atlantic Ocean meet it has one thing going for it that makes it a standout. Its one of the regions precious few dog-friendly beaches. Park in the lot, hike along the path (but not on the boardwalk, if you brought your dog sadly, dogs arent allowed on the walkway except in the early morning and evening, though were not sure why), and follow the signs for beach access. The beach is narrow along the river, but as you walk toward the inlet, it widens into a great sandy expanse where people set up their umbrellas and beach blankets and romp with their dogs on leash only, please in the gentle waves. The oceans just on the other side of the jetty, and though you really arent supposed to take your dog past that point, if nobodys looking, you can probably get close enough to let him get a taste of what the real ocean is like. Bonus: Theres also a dog-wash station on the way out of the parking lot where you can rinse some of the sand, seaweed and stink off your dog before he gets back in the car.
