Libertarian Candidate Plans To Demonstrate Third-Party Muscle In Ohio Governor Race

In an exclusive 10TV Capitol Square interview, Ohio Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Charlie Earl said he's prepared to be a major factor in the 2014 Election.

"I intend to be more than a spoiler," said Earl. "I think we have a shot at winning. Is it a good one? No, but we have a shot because people are discouraged and disgruntled."

The Ohio Republican Party wasted no time on Friday pointing out Earl supports positions that social conservatives have long scorned.

"He is pro-abortion, pro-drug legalization and pro-gay marriage," said Ohio Republican Party spokesman Chris Schimpf. "He will likely wind up taking more votes from FitzGerald than anyone else."

But several Ohio tea party leaders have already announced they will not support Kasichs reelection bid next year because of his support of Medicaid expansion. And Earl says he expects the tea party to be part of his coalition.

Political analysts have been busy dissecting the election returns from Virginia last Tuesday where the Libertarian candidate for governor Robert Sarvis received 7 percent of the vote.

Sarvis received 145,560 votes while the Republican candidate, Ken Cuccinelli, lost by roughly 55,000 votes to Democrat Terry McAuliffe.

What I take from that is that there is a real opportunity at the ballot box for minor parties, particularly the Libertarian Party, said Earl. A message of liberty and a smaller government we can get our arms around is important to people.

While the Libertarian anti-government philosophy more closely aligns with Republicans - Earl himself is a former state GOP lawmaker - he believes his appeal will attract some voters on the left.

"Our appeal as a Party has been to the fiscal sanity of the right and the more liberal attitude on the personal issues on the left," said Earl. "Certainly Kasichs base is upset with him. But at this point in time Mr. FitzGerald does not have the name recognition. I'm sure his Party and base will stick with him, but how many of those people are going to be frustrated by what's happening nationally and stay home?"

Government signs tax agreement with Cayman Islands

THE CAYMAN ISLANDS has become the first British overseas territory to sign an automatic tax information exchange agreement with the UK.

Financial information on UK taxpayers with accounts in the Cayman Islands will be reported to HM Revenue & Customs automatically every year as part of the agreement.

The arrangement is in line with similar deals the UK struck with the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey in October. On the current timetable, UK residents with assets concealed on the island will have until September 2016 to disclose details to the taxman and pay any tax owed to the HMRC, as well as a fine between 10% and 20%. While in most cases, the deal will see evaders escape prosecution, HMRC offers no guarantees.

Additional information including data relating to companies and trusts will be shared after 2016.

The Cayman Islands have also agreed to be part of the G5 multi-lateral information sharing pilot. Initially agreed between the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, the Cayman Islands will join these countries in automatically exchanging information about bank accounts held by taxpayers from their jurisdictions.

CIoT European representative and Kinetic Partners member Gary Ashford said: "The agreement with Cayman is an important milestone. This is the first overseas territory to sign such an agreement and I would now expect other overseas territories to follow.

"We are now entering a new phase of tax transparency."

Chancellor George Osborne said: "Alongside the significant investment that the government has made in HMRC's anti-avoidance and evasion work, these agreements will help them to clamp down further on those individuals who seek to hide their assets offshore.

"Our message is very clear: it is only fair that people pay the tax they owe. If you are trying to evade tax, we are coming after you."

State Revokes, Suspends Licenses, Certifications, Registrations Of Health Care Providers

OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Washington State Department of Health has revoked or suspended the licenses, certifications, or registrations of health care providers in our state. The department has also immediately suspended the credentials of people who have been prohibited from practicing in other states.

The department's Health Systems Quality Assurance Division works with boards, commissions and advisory committees to set licensing standards for more than 80 health care professions (e.g., medical doctors, nurses, counselors).

Information about health care providers is on the agency's website. Click on "Look up a healthcare provider license" in the "How Do I?" section of the Department of Health home page (doh.wa.gov). The site includes information about a health care provider's license status, the expiration and renewal date of their credential, disciplinary actions and copies of legal documents issued after July 1998. This information is also available by calling 360-236-4700. Consumers who think a health care provider acted unprofessionally are also encouraged to call and report their complaint.

Grant County

In August 2013 the secretary of health suspended the credential of certified nursing assistant Magdelena Alvarez (NC60045017) for two years. Alvarez also convicted of third-degree theft in March 2012. She didn't respond to inquiries from a Department of Health investigator.

In September 2013 the Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission indefinitely suspended the credential of registered nurse Aaron W. Ireland (RN00152826). He didn't follow the terms of his alcohol and drug monitoring contract.

King County

In August 2013 the secretary of health suspended the credential of certified nursing assistant Divina Zabala (NC10004646) for two years. Zabala restrained a vulnerable adult and locked the person in their bedroom at night while working at an adult family home.

In September 2013 the secretary of health issued a permanent cease and desist order to David Yount, who provided massage treatment to a client even though he has no massage license.

In September 2013 the Department of Health suspended the credential of surgical technologist Ken R. Welling (ST00000019) for five years. From 2001 to 2011, Welling billed five insurance companies and several clients directly for at least $4.4 million of surgical services he didn't do. He threatened to send at least one client to collections for not paying a bill for services he didn't provide. Welling was convicted of first degree theft and six counts of second degree theft.
