Liberty Women's Soccer Win Big South Title

From Big South Sports:

CONWAY, S.C. No. 2 Liberty forward Geena Swentik scored a pair of goals, while Brittany Aanderud and Alanna Dunkle each dished out a pair of assists to lead the Lady Flames to the 5-0 win over No. 1 Radford in the Championship match of the 2013 Big South Women's Soccer Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting Sunday at the CCU Soccer Field on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. The win secured Liberty's first Big South Women's Soccer Championship since 2005 and is the Lady Flames' fourth championship overall.

With the win, Liberty receives the Big South's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.

Liberty took the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Aanderud took the ball and dribbled to the top of the 18 and fired low shot into the left-center of the goal.

The Lady Flames scored again five minutes later to extend their lead to 2-0. Dunkle served up a looping cross deep in the box on the left hand side of the goal. Swentik followed the ball across the mouth of the goal and one-timed the ball into the goal on the right side.

Liberty tacked on another score in the 54th minute to push its lead to 3-0. Aanderud got the play going with a pass up the right side. Dunkle sent a cross through the box and found the foot of Swentik who placed the ball into the right side of the goal.

The Blue Hose converted 15 first downs, to Libertys 23 and had the ball for 26:44, compared to 33:16 for the Flames. PC racked up 244 yards of offense, 153 of them coming from the air. Liberty came away with 378 yards of offense with 241 coming above.
