Washington, DC -- Alabamas Tax Freedom Day, the day on which Alabamians have collectively earned enough income to pay off their total federal, state, and local tax bill, will arrives Monday, April 7th making it the 5th state to reach Tax Freedom Day.
According to the annual report released this morning by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation, National Tax Freedom Day falls on April 21, three days later than last year.
The states with the earliest Tax Freedom Days are Louisiana (Mar 30), Mississippi (Apr 2), and South Dakota (Apr 4). The latest dates fall in New Jersey (May 9), Connecticut (May 9), and New York (May 4).
The studys key findings include:
The national Tax Freedom Day is three days later than last year due mainly to the continuing economic recovery, which will boost federal tax revenue collected through the corporate, payroll, and individual income tax.
Americans will spend more on taxes in 2014 than they will on food, clothing, and housing combined.
Americans will spend 42 days working to pay off income taxes, 15 days for excise taxes, and 11 days for property taxes. Click here for a full breakdown.
Americans will pay $3 trillion in federal taxes and $1.5 trillion in state and local taxes, for a total bill of more than $4.5 trillion, or 30.2 percent of the nations income.
If you include annual federal borrowing, which represents future taxes owed, Tax Freedom Day would occur on May 6, 15 days later. Tax Freedom Day is a significant date for taxpayers and lawmakers because it represents how long Americans as a whole have to work in order to pay the nations tax burden.
Arguments can be made for why the collective tax bill is too high or too low, but in order to have an honest discussion, its important to understand where we stand, said Tax Foundation Economist Kyle Pomerleau. Tax Freedom Day gives us a vivid representation of how much we pay for the goods and services provided by governments at all levels.

A Christian Science perspective.
Reports of people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are frequently in the news. Its a global health issue affecting millions, which is associated with experiencing a terrifying event, such as war, domestic abuse, a car crash, or a severe storm, wherein the person is haunted by recurring, uncontrollable thoughts about it. Like many others, I find myself responding to such reports with a deep, heartfelt desire to help. But how?

Christ Jesus brought freedom to many people tormented by physical maladies and mental illness. We can tap into that same power, which transcends pain and suffering through God, by letting this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5).
This healing power does not originate in the brain. Divine Mind is Spirit itself the active, universal source of the life, intelligence, wisdom, and spirituality of each of us as Gods sons and daughters. To understand God as the one great Cause is also to know our true identity as made in His own image. Understanding the spiritual nature of Gods children as the likeness of divine Mind leads to health and wholeness.
All truth is in the divine Mind, and all discord, pain, and fear are not from God. Such devilish thoughts come to us as our own thinking, and, if not rejected, induce us to believe, I feel it or I fear it. So it was with Job, whose story is told in the Bible. He was distraught, diseased, and forsaken. He regained his health and family and was no longer impoverished when he acknowledged God as the sole source of all goodness.
Mary Baker Eddy founded The Christian Science Monitor and discovered Christian Science the Science of mans true being. She explained how sound physical and mental health is available to everyone. She wrote: We are all sculptors, working at various forms, moulding and chiseling thought. What is the model before mortal mind? Is it imperfection, joy, sorrow, sin, suffering? Have you accepted the mortal model? Are you reproducing it? Then you are haunted in your work by vicious sculptors and hideous forms.... The result is that you are liable to follow those lower patterns, limit your life-work, and adopt into your experience the angular outline and deformity of matter models (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 248).
Mrs. Eddy goes on to describe the remedy for such fearful images, which to me is applicable in seeking relief and permanent freedom from PTSD: To remedy this, we must first turn our gaze in the right direction, and then walk that way. We must form perfect models in thought and look at them continually, or we shall never carve them out in grand and noble lives. Let unselfishness, goodness, mercy, justice, health, holiness, love the kingdom of heaven reign within us, and sin, disease, and death will diminish until they finally disappear.
We reach the pinnacle of prayer through such correct self-identification, conscious of our individual existence as Gods own image and likeness. By accepting the spiritual identity of each of Gods sons and daughters, we see that suffering is not inevitable and that no event or memory of it no matter how horrific or hateful can inhibit the power of divine Love to help and heal. Divine Love forgives and ends isolation and resentment. So it is that with divine help, freedom from PTSD is possible.

With Ronda Rousey tearing through UFC competitors left and right, it has left the UFC and MMA pundits scrambling for suitable contenders. It was only a matter of time before other WMMA stars would be brought into the mix. Cue Gina Carano, Cris Cyborg, and Holly Holm, who have all been deemed as possible contenders to the Womens Bantamweight champion.
The issue is that none of the aforementioned women are on the UFC roster, among other things. The fight that most fans want to see is a matchup with former StrikeForce and current Invicta Featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg.
Cyborg is a Featherweight, who has previously stated she would die if she cut down to 135. When Dana White and the UFC heard that statement, it was cut and dry that they would not sign her. White has said that Cyborg would need to cut to 135 a few times before giving her a shot at Ronda Rousey. Cyborg, in response to White, said she is looking to cut to 135 by September.
In a recent interview with MMAJunkie, Dana White explained that there is currently nothing on the table for Cyborg:
The crazy thing about talking about this is there is no negotiations or anything like that. Shes a 145-pounder.
Dana White continued, stating the other issues besides Cyborgs weight:
Shes being mismanaged. Shes been mismanaged since the day that this whole thing went down, and she will continue to be mismanaged right until her career is over.
Cyborg seems to be a long shot to fight Rousey anytime soon. Dana White has made it clear that until Cyborg is ready to fight on the UFCs terms, she will not get a crack at Rousey and the UFC title.

A salt farm at the entrance to Lido Beach Resort today.
CAVITE CITY Ever wonder what used to be one of the hippest beaches of the Philippines when life was much simpler?
Just a quick drive or ride from Metro Manila is Lido Beach in Cavite City, whose popularity in the '50s and '60s can be likened to that of Boracay today.
The Lido Beach resort, started and owned by Celedonio Santamaria, became a popular destination when Manila Bay was still relatively safe and clean to swim in.
Families and friends would flock to Lido Beach, stay a few hours to enjoy the gray-sand beach, and travel back to Metro Manila the same day. It's a quick 30- to 40-minute ride or drive from Roxas Blvd.
Back then, most Filipinos still couldn't afford to travel to white-sand beaches in the Visayas and Mindanao. Air transport was generally still a Philippine Airlines (PAL) monopoly, and budget airlines and piso fares were unheard of.
Many got to Lido Beach by taking a mini-bus from Roxas Blvd. or via the family's first car, the Beetle or Combi.
Benedicta Laurente, a resort staff since 1976, shared that guests would come even on weekdays, and that the beach would be full of people on Sundays. Guests would have picnics in huts or on the beach or buy food at the resort.
Noong kasikatan nito, talagang maraming tao. Masaya, lalo na pag Linggo. Makikita mo mga tao naliligo dyan at ang makikita mo lang ay mga ulo nila. Ganoon karami...Kahit ganitong ordinary days, maraming customers, she recalled.
She said people who visited the resort declined over time after Manila Bay's pollution reached Cavite's beaches and as tourists chose to go by air to explore the country's white-sand beaches in the Visayas (Cebu and Aklan), Palawan, and even hard-to-reach places in northern Luzon.
