Liberty reduces provost's duties following video

Godwin, 76, no longer will serve as the universitys vice president for academic affairs, according to a statement on LUs website, though he will continue as provost.

In the statement, Liberty University President and Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said Godwins refined role would ensure the error does not repeat itself.

The University will continue to rely on Dr. Godwins breadth of academic and administrative experience, Falwell said in the release, which appeared on http://www.liberty.edu on Friday but was not sent to media outlets. He will spend the next few years grooming his successors and guiding the team responsible for Liberty Universitys pending ten year accreditation reaffirmation report.

The update on Godwins role was written as an addendum to a statement issued by LU on April 3, which notified the public that Liberty University did not have a partnership with Benny Hinn Ministries, as Benny Hinn had advertised.

According to Hinn, his partnership with Liberty University would allow students of the World Healing Fellowship & Liberty University Institute of Biblical Studies to receive a diploma from the university, and be eligible for college credits.

On April 4, the university issued a cease-and-desist order, requiring Benny Hinn to remove from its website all unauthorized uses of the universitys trademark and intellectual property.

The confusion as to whether or not such a partnership existed which led to short-lived but national attention occurred in part because of Godwins appearance with Dan Reber on Benny Hinns television show, This is Your Day.

Reber operates the Liberty Home Bible Institute on behalf of Liberty University. Godwin believed Reber was authorized to sell Liberty University Institute of Biblical Studies courses via Benny Hinn Ministries, and agreed to be on the show at Rebers request.

Godwin later learned Reber did not have the authority to sell Liberty University Institute of Biblical Studies courses via Benny Hinn Ministries.

Godwin said he failed to confirm the information prior to appearing on the show.

MidPointe scouting Liberty Twp. for expansion

LIBERTY TWP.

The MidPointe Library System has confirmed its looking to Liberty Twp. for its next branch expansion in Butler County.

The 101-year-old library system operates locations in Middletown, Trenton and most recently West Chester Twp.

MidPointe is always looking to grow, said Cari Hillman, public relations manager for MidPointe. Liberty Twp. is a growing area we need to accommodate.

Hillman said over the past several years, the library system has reached out to existing and potential patrons, as well as conducted demographic studies, to determine the feasibility for a location in Liberty Twp. The township has grown from a population of 22,819 in 2000 to more than 37,250 in 2010, according to U.S. Census data.

Hillman said the West Chester location at 48,350 square feet is the second-busiest library in southwest Ohio, only behind the downtown Cincinnati location of The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. She said a lot of business at the West Chester location comes from Liberty Twp. residents.

Having a branch there would fill a void, Hillman said.

Since January of this year, MidPointe has contracted with Henkle Schueler Realtors in Lebanon for real estate services, Hillman said. She said there have been several site visits made, but no location has been selected yet or an estimated construction date.

In an April quarterly newsletter from the Schueler Group of Companies, Henkle Schueler Realtors announced it had researched five possible locations in Liberty Twp. for MidPointe, and the library system is currently evaluating the sites and making final selections on which site will work best for them.

The newsletter also cited the need for the site to be between three and five acres to accommodate a building of 25,000 square feet.

MSNBCers Tackle Bundy Standoff: Thats Not Libertarianism, Its Anarchy

On Morning Joe Tuesday morning, the panel considered the Cliven Bundy scandal, in which a rancher who has refused two decades worth of court orders to pay land grazing fees to the government for his use of public land mounted a standoff against the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Host Joe Scarborough said that the BLM could have handled this much better, but that those criticizing the government needed to criticize Bundy as well.

If you had the idea anyone that has cattle could just let them off grazing anywhere, its not libertarianism, MJ-regular Katty Kay said. Its anarchy.

For some reason this guy thinks that the laws that apply to every other rancher in the United States of America dont apply to him, Scarborough said. Even people on the further boundaries of the right and the conservative movement think that if this guy is going to use federal land, then this guy should actually pay the fees.

Theres no doubt the Bureau of Land Management overreacted, Scarborough added. This could have been handled much betterYou dont go around tasing people or sticking guns in peoples faces. But at the same time I would like to hear some people that are criticizing the Bureau of Land Management also suggest to this man he does what every other rancher in the United States of America does.

Drug test troubles for Libertarian City Council special election candidate

CHRIS BRENNAN, Daily News Staff Writer brennac@phillynews.com, 215-854-5973 Posted: Tuesday, April 15, 2014, 3:01 AM

RICHARD TAMACCIO, a/k/a Nikki Allen Poe, must see a federal judge about new drug activity before he can face the city's voters as the Libertarian candidate for a May 20 special election to fill a vacant at-large City Council seat.

Tamaccio, a marijuana-legalization activist on probation since Dec. 13, tried to beat a Feb. 25 drug test by "consuming large amounts of water," according to a probation report filed in federal court yesterday.

The report said Tamaccio then admitted that he "accidentally ate a cookie laced with marijuana" three days before.

The report also says Tamaccio admitted in an April 3 probation interview that he had used cocaine and Percocet. That interview happened one day after he became a candidate.

A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow to consider a request to modify Tamaccio's probation terms. He is already in an outpatient treatment program for the latest drug activity.

Tamaccio yesterday accused federal prosecutors and probation officials of "doing everything they can to quell my political dissent and political views."

He vowed to fight a request from probation officials to prohibit him from associating with "The Panic Hour," an activist group that holds "Smokedown Prohibition" events at Independence National Historic Park.

"It's not going to affect my campaign in any capacity," Tamaccio said of the hearing. "The fact that I'm a victim of the drug war for my political beliefs is something that I'm proud of."

Kansas Libertarians Say Miller's Nomination Threatens Gun Rights

Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Kansas Libertarian Party says making Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller the U.S. Marshal for the state would threaten gun rights.

But, Miller told 13 News their concerns are unfounded.

The party released a statement Monday opposing Miller's nomination for the position. They say Miller has, on several occasions, backed banning and restricting carrying of firearms.

The news release from the Libertarian Party refers to New York and Connecticut, where they say there is "imminent possibility" that law enforcement will enter homes of legal gun owners and confiscate their firearms.

"With a track record of opposing the second amendment and other civil liberties we believe that if Chief Miller were given the order to seize firearms he would participate and give the order without hesitation," the news release stated.

In a phone conversation with 13 News, Miller said that, as a law enforcement officer, he would follow federal law. However, he says he has worked with the Libertarian Party in the past to safeguard second amendment rights.

Miller did recently ask the Topeka City Council to ban carrying of loaded firearms in vehicles because he said it is an issue of protecting officer safety. The council declined to make the change.

President Obama nominated Miller for the U.S. Marshal's position in early March, saying, "Miller has dedicated his career to protecting his fellow citizens. He has displayed courage and persistence in the pursuit of justice, and I am honored to nominate him to continue his selfless work on behalf of the people of Kansas as a U.S. Marshal.

The nomination drew large praise from many Topeka area leaders.
