Rosewood Corniche has seen off stiff competition to be recognized as the Middle Easts Leading Luxury Hotel and Saudi Arabias Leading Business Hotel at this years Middle East World Travel Awards at a ceremony in Dubai this week. Jeddahs ultra-luxury hotel came out on top in the both categories at the event in the JW Marriott Marquis hotel, reinforcing its position as one of the Kingdoms most celebrated hotels. On the sidelines of the gala ceremony, Hans-Peter Leitzke, MD of Rosewood Corniche lauded his staff for helping to raise the bar of hotel service in Saudi Arabia for the last seven years. When we opened our doors for the first time in 2007, it was with the intention to deliver the very best in personalized services for every guest, said Leitzke. We are delighted to bring these two awards back to Jeddah and celebrate with the team because it reflects their hard work, dedication and commitment. There is no doubt that Rosewood Hotels have a unique way of looking after their guests and were thrilled that our hospitality standards are being recognized in the Middle East. The World Travel Awards acknowledge and reward excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry, and are recognized globally as a trademark of quality where winners set the standard to which all others seek. Rosewood Corniche has been a consistent winner of independent awards around the region since it was awarded Saudi Arabias Leading Hotel at the World Travel Awards in 2009. Leitzke added: Endorsements from peers in the travel industry and winning awards of this nature help motivate staff to continue working hard in order to exceed guest experiences and expectations. I offer heartfelt thanks to the judges at the World Travel Awards and congratulations to our fellow winners.

World Cup 2014: Does Team USA stand a chance?

The United States Men's National Team has arguably the hardest road to World Cup success in Brazil of any of the 32 teams taking part in the tournament, despite being ranked 14th in the world by FIFA as of May 2014. It's just the luck of the draw at the world's biggest sporting event.

Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann told the media last year after FIFA revealed the Americans' brutal path forward for the world's biggest sporting event: "It's a real challenge and we'll take it."

If the Americans hope to do anything in Brazil, it's precisely that moxie they'll require. Below is a breakdown of what they need to overcome.

The U.S. men have to travel farther once in Brazil to play their matches than any other team.

A look at the cities hosting games in Brazil ahead of World Cup 2014 set to begin on June 12th

It's estimated the USMNT could log 11,500 miles from their base camp in Sao Paulo in a 10-day span just to play their games - which, by the way, will all take place in the sweltering tropics under the second-highest average temperature per city of any other team's schedule, including one game against Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal in a stadium in the middle of the Amazon jungle.

The all-time leading U.S. men's player in appearances for the national team, Cobi Jones, a three-time World Cup participant, told CBS News the travel situation was "unfortunate." However, Jones added he believed Klinsmann's vast international experience, as well as a little help from modern science with things like compression suits, will negate the travel schedule's difficulty.

While the distance may be hard, the negative affects of travel on athletic performance are largely linked to jet lag and the crossing of time zones. Brazil's games are being played in two simultaneous time zones, and the U.S. will only cross them once, again to play Portugal.

Sport travel packages galore to Brazil as football World Cup nears kickoff

New Delhi, May 26:

With soccer fans from across the globe expected to descend on Brazil for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Indian corporates and high-net worth individuals are also evincing interest in the event.

Travel firms anticipate that about 1,500-2,000 fans are likely to travel to Brazil from India through the month-long FIFA World Cup that starts from June 12 and ends on July 13.

Mayank Khandwala, Co-Founder, Cutting Edge Events, said, There is a very good response for FIFA packages. Corporates as well as HNIs are showing a lot of interest. While small groups have booked to travel for the opening ceremony, more groups are expected to travel during the second half of the tournament. Cutting Edge Events is the authorised sales agent of Match Hospitality in India for the sale of the official hospitality packages for FIFA 2014.

Typically, corporates are the big buyers of sports tourism packages in India, who usually use these to reward employees, clients, customers or dealers. Considering the price tag, where packages start from 4 lakh for a person depending on match and location, FIFA too is largely expected to get more takers from the corporate world. With summer vacations on, families may also pick up these packages.

Karan Anand, Head, Relationships, Cox & Kings said, This is a very niche product. It is driven more by the incentive market, wherein corporates buy these packages as an incentive to their best clients. We also have a few high-net worth individuals who have shown a keen interest. Cox & Kings is the official hospitality partner to sell packages for FIFA World Cup 2014.

The match hospitality package includes category-1 hospitality tickets for the Match Pavilion, Match Club and Match Premier and access to food and beverages. These firms are coupling the match hospitality packages with customised packages that include air tickets, hotel stay and sightseeing. Venue series packages are available for Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Cuiaba, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Sao Paulo.

However, travel experts added that unlike most other international tourist boards, Brazil has not been aggressively marketing itself in India, though FIFA has got people interested in Brazil as a tourist destination, added Khandwala.

Overall, sporting vacations have gained popularity in India in the past five to six years and have been growing at 25-30 per cent year-on-year. It is expected to grow at 10-15 per cent in the next few years, believe experts.
