Stem Cell Treatment for Heart Disease

Tijuana, Mexico (PRWEB) October 01, 2014

On August 15, 2014 Regenerative Medicine Institute, Mexico (RMI) began seeing patients through a new ambulatory clinic. Although RMI has been serving patients at Hospital Angeles in Tijuana since 2009, patients with conditions not requiring a hospital stay are now able to be treated at the new ambulatory clinic, giving them more options in their treatment setting.

When it comes to stem cell treatment for heart disease, there are a number of new players, including Okyanos in the Bahamas. As these exciting new practices get off the ground, RMI continues to grow and build upon expertise gained throughout the past five years.

Physicians at RMI began their practice with the knowledge that adipose-derived adult autologous stem cells had the potential to help the body regenerate. It was with a great deal of excitement that they began to offer the option of adult stem cells to seriously ill patients from around the globe. With board certified specialists taking lead in each and every case, RMI developed 27 disease specific research protocols, submitting them for both IRB and government approval.

Through their experiences, RMI learned that not every condition could be treated as successfully as others. It is important that a patient be able to have confidence in his doctor, said Dr. Javier Lopez, Director of RMI. Our board of directors represents cutting-edge researchers and physicians from around the world. The reason we sought a board with such a strong pedigree is that we wanted to be held to the highest possible standards. When a protocol is successful we want to build upon it. When one does not work well, we seek to learn everything we can from it so that the greatest number of patients will benefit.

After five years of clinical practice and through collaboration with various research institutions, RMI has refined its practice and recognized the value of an ambulatory clinic to further serve its patients. In the new clinic physicians use stem cell therapy to treat type 2 diabetes and immunotherapy for serious conditions such as Alzheimers disease, arthritis, chronic kidney disease, hepatitis, lupus, Lyme disease, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinsons disease.

With a practice that offers services through both an ambulatory clinic as well as the state-of-the-art Hospital Angeles, RMI employs some of the most respected physicians and specialists in their field. Due to the sheer amount of research that has taken place over the course of the last five years, RMI has begun to offer a new and promising immunotherapeutic approach to cancer treatment.

Cancer is not a single disease, but rather a group of more than 100 distinct and different illnesses that all begin with cellular abnormalities. Our proprietary T Cell Modulator is a leucocyte extract whose purpose is to regulate immune function by controlling the production of signaling substances that influence immune cell activity, said Dr. Lopez.

As to the concerns patients may have in regard to receiving medical treatment in a foreign country, Dr. Lopez says, Even though many of us live and work in Tijuana, we understand the concerns of patients who may not be familiar with the city. For that reason, we encourage our patients to fly or drive into San Diego. We pick each patient up and shuttle them the few miles across the border to our clinic or Hospital Angeles. It is a routine trip for us and we have never faced a problem. Our ultimate goal is to keep our patients comfortable.

Dr. Lopez expresses enthusiasm as other programs, like Okyanos, open their doors for the first time. The media shares plenty of stories of international clinics with less-than-honest practices, but there are also amazing medical programs out there, doing the cutting-edge work that will help us get a handle on how most major health issues can be effectively dealt with.

Vugt: Spirituality of growth

IN MY previous column we have seen that Fr. Ben Alforque learned the hard way that Christians must forgive others and may not judge them. That is part of the spirituality of growth.

Modern society has an obsession for growth which shows itself in all spheres of life. The economy has to grow if the economic growth is half percent lower than the previous year, prestigious companies are closing up business because they fear that the growth within 10 years will be lower than today.

This spirit of the economy pervades all spheres of social life. When it concerns your career, you always want to go higher to the top of the social scale. First you look for a job that will keep your head above water, next you want to become a teacher or a professor so that you can propagate your ideas or give guidance to people, may be even a renowned professor who appears on TV.

If you are a lawyer, you aspire to become the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court or may be to be a judge in the International Court of Justice in The Hague. If you are after worldly growth, no achievement is good enough. On top of the mountain that you have reached already, you see other mountain tops looming up where you want to climb to.

The earthly desire for growth is treacherous. We see this happening also in other spheres of life, like in sports or in love life. When you got addicted to growth, you never get enough. You always want more, always better, standing still is growing backwards and before you know it, you lose yourself in a whirlwind of unfulfilled expectations. You dont know anymore how to cope with yourself and with all those people around you.

It is often said that the obsession for growth finds its origin in the Christian religion. And indeed, in Christian faith we see that nothing in this world is good enough. We have to strive after perfection in order to reach the heavenly Kingdom.

The parable of the sower seems to suggest this also: we must listen to the Word of God and live it to the full. Elsewhere Jesus says: be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect. Those who dont are like the seeds which fell in rocky soil and they will disappear into nothing.

But recently, I discovered that there is another version of the parable of the sower. One version appears in the Gospel of Matthew (Mt. 13, 4-9) and the other in the same chapter (Mt. 13, 24-30). The latter says that God, the sower, has sown the seeds of the Word of God and they all grow up and become a full-grown crop. But while growing up, there appear also weeds which have grown up together with the good crop.

According to the sower, the weeds have come from bad seeds which were sown by the enemy in the midst of the night. The servants want to pull out the weeds right away but the sower, who knows all about the good crop and those weeds, tells them not to do that. The sower knows that the good crop is strong enough and will survive. The weeds represent mens shortcomings and failures. The sower says: let them be, you cannot root them out. People have to live with their failures and shortcomings. They are part of the growing pains.

The Christian tradition has taught us the opposite: you must fight against your shortcomings and cut them out. You must try to be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect. But this version of the parable seems to suggest that you must give space to yourself to grow but also to give space to others to grow.

Marley is reaching for a higher spiritual state

Ziggy Marleys all about keeping it positive. Thats why his latest album, Fly Rasta, is a celebration of everything the Jamaican reggae artist is known to love: Mother Nature, Rastafarianism, peace and the herb (as he personally calls it), of course. But what Fly Rasta really is, is a deeper extension of Marley himself.

For me (Fly Rasta) means to elevate the mental state and reach a higher spiritual state, he said. I ventured out into the universe musically, and tried to go as far as I can.

That is a long way for Marley, whos been performing for nearly his entire life. As the eldest son of the legendary Bob Marley, he started recording with his father and younger siblings at just 11 years old. Now hes also an advocate for widespread causes from the environment to human rights and the legalization of marijuana. You could say music and activism are in Ziggys blood, but he will humbly tell you thats just who he is.

Im my own psychologist, he explains. I learn to adopt and change according to what I feel is right in my life figure out these two voices in my head, the normal voice and the psychologist voice and make sure things are right and positive.

You can call it consciousness, the voice of God, there are so many different terminologies for it. That consciousness does come out in the music thats a side of me thats reflected the most. Thats the side of me that I want to promote and be more. Not on the ego side, but the conscious side.

As such, Marley doesnt think much about accolades. Hes a six-time Grammy winner whos not connected emotionally to that kind of stuff. The Love Is My Religion singer was just nominated again for a 2014 International Reggae and Music Award, but this time with a couple other Marleys son Daniel Bambaata Marley and nephew Jo Mersa Marley, both recording artists who experimenting with reggae, dancehall and rap in their own right.

Ziggy tries not to give the kids much advice about the industry, but rather be supportive as they find their own way.

Ive learned by action, said Marley, who is actually a father of six. That means hard work, perseverance and discipline, and in life showing respect for all the people the greatest example is to lead by example. That is a thing I learned from my parents. They led by example.

After touring Canada, the singer goes onto the United States for another 20-some dates. Hes also busy with his non-profit foundation United Resources Giving Enlightenment (URGE), which works with underprivileged children in Jamaica and Ethiopia.

Marleys eager to reunite with his family on stage and in the studio, but it clearly wont be happening anytime soon.
