Are we heading towards WW3? – Your Local Guardian

The threat of a major escalation in Iran-US tensions appears to be rising following the death of top Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in a US airstrike in Iraq. General Soleimani, 62, was responsible for commanding the Quds Force and attained celebrity status as a military mastermind for Irans war efforts in Syria and Iraq. The Pentagon has accused Soleimani and his infamous military unit of being terrorists, and claims Soleimani was developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in the region, reports the BBC.

The killing has sparked a wildfire of fears across social media of a possible World War 3. A question many have is Are those fears justified.

Tensions have been growing between the US and Iran since 2018 when Washington announced it was withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal. An independent US report warned that an all-out war was impending with Trump deciding to surround himself with hardliners in his administration. Those fears have been stoked by the killing this week of Soleimani in a drone strike on Baghdad International Airport. President Donald Trump, who ordered the attack, tweeted an image of the US flag shortly after the news broke. It appears that Trump is unlikely to back down from this situation meaning chances of World War 3 are increasing day by day.

Another question many are asking is Are the UK likely to get involved

The UK has a history of diplomatic issues with Iran dating back to when they seized the Iranian Oil Tanker Grace 1 after discovering it was transporting oil to Syria, in violation of EU sanctions. However, I believe this history of disputes does not necessarily mean the UK is likely to get involved. At the current time, the US is a far greater threat and priority to Iran than the UK and Im sure leaders in the UK would like to avoid war at all costs.

World War 3: Medical conditions that could save you from conscription if WW3 broke out – Daily Star

In the week where the United States killed Irans top general, the internet has reacted in its typical style and World War III memes have taken over social media.

100 years on from the First World War, which saw 886,000 British people lose their lives including 70,000 civilians, many have been wondering about how forced conscription would work in the modern age.

In 2020, sex discrimination is illegal and so many have been wondering if women would be drafted into the army alongside men.

Subsequently people have questioned what would happen to children.

The obesity epidemic alongside a heightening awareness of mental health disorders means that the reality may be unrecognisable from that of 1918.

If conscription were to happen, we ask, what fitness levels might be expected and which medical conditions would make you exempt? We looked at the National Archives and looked at expert commentary to help paint a picture.

Firstly, the question of women and enlistment. In 2016, Hardman Lea, the author of First World War novel The Sins of Soldiers, conducted a poll about modern attitudes to conscription.

Speaking to The Telegraph in 2016, he said: The female role was much more formal 100 years ago, but times have changed. Women now serve in the Amed Forces, so if conscription came back in, should they be called up?

In response to his question 57% answered yes, but 43 per cent said no citing: women are less aggressive, they dont belong and women have occupations that would be invaluable on the home front.

This also brings up the issue of single parenthood. Hartman Lea said: Single parenting was a social position that didnt really exist 100 years ago, so that, along with gender and childcare issues, would present a further problem with reintroducing conscription.

It seems that if you are called up in World War Three, parenthood and occupation could keep you off of the front lines.

The second question about enlistment is that of health, specifically weight.

In order to pass the fitness tests required by the British army today, you would need to be able to complete the following:

Considering that, as of August 2019, 28.7% of English adults were obese and 35.6% were overweight, it would be easy to think that conscription of these individuals would be impossible.

However, in 2011, a Ministry of Defence study found that in actuality 44.9 per cent of existing British soldiers were classed as overweight and 12.1 per cent were obese or even heavier.

While the army insisted that their personnel were getting larger they insisted that their soldiers were large and fit. They did introduce a weight management system in 2009 to tackle the issue.

With this in mind, it should also be noted that this year the British Army has been seeking new ways to increase its troop members, and this includes a soldier development course which takes on overweight, unfit and shy recruits.

This means that if conscription were to return, being overweight may not automatically get you pulled from the ranks.

Finally, weve all heard of men being signed unfit for war during the previous world wards due to asthma or flat feet - but what about now? Which conditions could get you out of war in 2020?

If we consider that those conditions which excused men from war in the last century would also count in the 21st century the following would make you exempt.

Records of medical exemptions are rare, according to the National Archives, but the following illnesses were noted in a collection of Middlesex County appeals against conscription from 1916-17.

Its worth noting that a total of 303 appeals were from men who were aged between 40 and 50.

In the papers were included appeals due to heart defects, heart disease, partial or total blindness, deafness, hernias, chronic bronchitis and Neurasthenia.

Neurasthenia was a psychological term which covered symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, neuralgia and depression.

As modern attitudes towards mental health have improved, it is likely that those with similar conditions, depression, anxiety, ME and other conditions would be excused from the draft.

On the British Army website there is an extensive list of conditions which they say could stop you from being able to join. These include: Crohns disease or ulcerative colitis, kidney disease or donation, pregnancy, MS, epilepsy, Hepatitis B or C, ear grommets, Asthma, lung disease, TB, Cerebral Palsy, HIV, Diabetes and HIV.

Also included are PTSD, alcoholism or drug dependancy, schizophrenia, past suicide attempts, anxiety, OCD.

Even food allergies, 44% of the UK has some kind of allergy, could make you exempt.

Conscientious objection was widely vilified during the last century, however it was accepted as a reason to be exempt in some cases. It was peer pressure which widely pushed these men into the army eventually.

In Hardman Leas poll, 57% of respondents would protest the reintroduction of conscription, meaning that this pressure may not exist in the same way.

With all of these exemptions, it seems as though there would be no-one in the UK left to conscript.

However, Hardman Lea notes: I suspect that their opinions would change when it came to the actual situation and, as was the case a century ago today, they would accept the necessity of the decision, we would have to work out the logistical difficulties, and conscription would return."

As long as WW3 does not kick off, 2020 looks set to be a better year – Retail Sector

All eyes on are on the rising tensions between the United States and Iran after president Trump ordered the assassination of Irans most powerful general, Qassem Suleimani.

The oil price has risen, stocks have fallen this morning, and the threat of war almost always depresses global trade flows. But lets bask in a rare moment of optimism at home here in the UK, where there are signs of a positive outlook for 2020.

There has been talk of economic contraction at the end of last year, but todays news shows the Purchasing Managers Index showing a 49.3 reading in November 2019. Anything below 50 indicates contraction and means businesspeople with buying power were less confident and therefore planning to spend less.

However, with the uncertainty about what happens next lifted, that index has now risen to 50 on the nose. Its nothing to get excited about particularly as that does not indicate any surge in business investment, indeed it indicates the definition of stagnation. But it does at least offer one indication that were not about to slide into recession, and given the parlous state of our politics over the last three years, that is probably something of a miracle.

What might offer further succour to the economic position is the passing of the Brexit deadline day. The 31st January was the newly established deadline for Britain to leave the EU, and with his new majority, Boris Johnson managed to pass his Withdrawal Agreement Bill easily, meaning we will definitely leave and enter that implementation period.

It gives 11 months grace during which nothing will change in the economy or our trading arrangements, and the threat of any disruption will be deferred to the end of the year by which time we leave the EU properly regardless of whether or not a new free trade agreement has been struck.

Whilst naturally we all want the cliff edges to disappear for good, arguably we have not had a period of 11 months pure predictability for several years now, and this will allow business to make some investments and try to move forward.

It will be worth following the news on Iran closely, because a new war with US involvement is likely to have a dampening effect on capital flows and therefore on domestic economies. The price of gold is already at a seven-year high this morning this is significant because gold is seen as a safe haven commodity by investors, and big spikes in gold tend to mean reduced confidence in all the other types of asset classes.

Heres hoping international diplomatic pressure can get both countries to step back from the brink, and defuse an already hot situation. Our economies need the breathing space.

Royal Navy warships heading for Iran to protect Brits as WW3 tensions skyrocket – Daily Star

Two British warships are currently heading to the Persian Gulf to "take all necessary steps to protect our ships and citizens" following the US assassination of Qasem Soleimani.

Defence Secretary, Ben Wallace, has ordered HMS Montrose and HMS Defender, a Type 23 frigate and a Type 45 destroyer to accompany British-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to fly back to the UK tomorrow, following his holiday in Mustique and will be faced with his biggest foreign policy crisis during his time in Downing Street.

The PM is likely to be immediately briefed by his National Security Adviser, Sir Mark Sedwill, who today met with the UKs leading security agencies to discuss risks to UK assets in the Middle East.

This news comes as thousands of Brits currently in Turkey and Dubai have been warned to remain "vigilant" by the Foreign Office, who have recently updated their advice for travel across the Middle East.

Wallaces decision to send the warships back to the Gulf comes just two months after the ships had been withdrawn from their previous deployment in the same area.

In a statement, Wallace said: "The Government will take all necessary steps to protect our ships and citizens at this time."

He went on to say that on Friday he had spoken to US Defence Secretary, Mark Esper, claiming he urged all parties to engage to de-escalate the situation.

Following on the heels of President Trumps decision to go ahead with the airstrikes and signifying Britains position in the escalating crisis, Wallace added: "During the last few months US forces in Iraq, who are based in Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi government, have been repeatedly attacked by Iranian backed militia ."

He continued: "General Soleimani has been at the heart of the use of proxies to undermine neighbouring sovereign nations and target Irans enemies.

"Under international law, the United States is entitled to defend itself against those posing an imminent threat to their citizens."

Sedwill, who is also the Cabinet Secretary, chaired a two-hour meeting with senior figures from the Governments listening post, GCHQ and other intelligence officials at 10 Downing Street.

Its believed the meeting looked into "the potential scenarios, risks to the UK assets in the region."

Reports also emerged that GCHQ had stepped up their monitoring of Tehran-backed hackers this weekend, following fears that Britains national infrastructure and government departments would be targeted in retaliation by Iran.

Iran’s missile cities buried beneath five layers of concrete ready to strike in WW3 – Daily Star

Iran 's sprawling underground missile bases buried beneath up to five layers of concrete are ready to strike on the outbreak of World War 3 .

Hidden bases housing thousands of missiles are dotted around the Islamic Republic and are constantly on alert.

Opposition groups released previously unseen aerial images revealed the sprawling sites to Daily Star Online.

The largest of the sites is alleged to be the base at Khojir known as Code 7500 with a tunnel around 1,000 metres long packed with missiles.

Pictures inside the bases have previously been revealed by Iranian state media.

Images of the mysterious sites were released in a dossier to this website by the dissident group the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

It comes amid ongoing fears of war between the US and Iran following the assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani and their retaliatory missile attack on US bases.

The NCRI estimate the Iranian regime has ploughed billions of dollars into the bases and its missile programme.

Iranian military forces are said to constructed most of the sprawling tunnel complexes between 1997 and 2002.

However, some of the older sites are believed to date back as far as 1984.

The underground networks are built with the intent of concealing missiles and acting as staging areas for strikes in the Middle East.

Iran does not have the ballistic missile capability to strike the US or Britain, but its reach is estimated to reach as far as Ukraine and they nation have bragged they have "hundreds of missiles" at the ready.

Missile bases are primarily found around the Persian Gulf, but Code 7500 is found just outside Tehran.

It is alleged the Iranian regime used shell companies linked to the Revolutionary Guard a shadowy organisation that included Soleimani to covertly construct the sites.

Pictures released to Daily Star Online by the NCRI show three missile sites and tunnel complexes around Iran.

Images of Khojir show the military base with at least three roads appearing to go burrowing beneath a nearby hillside.

Code 7500 is believed to be the final construction site of the Shahab 3 medium-range missiles.

Imam Ali airbase can be found in western Iran with roads seen disappearing into a mountainside.

And then there is the Lard garrison which is also found in western Iran.

Lar is described by NCRI sources as a sprawling tunnel complex that is highly protected and secure.

It is this complex which is believed to have been featured in the regime propaganda being dubbed the missile city.

Reportedly mobile phone signals are blocked around the highly secretive installation.

Other sites such as the Queshm Missile Centre on the Iranian coast are understood to be hidden under up to five layers of concrete.

Iran has allegedly used the facility to export missiles to their proxy forces in Yemen.

Soleimani was the spider at the centre of the web of these Iranian proxies with US claiming he had the blood of thousands on his hands from his shell attacks.

As well as being covert, the bases are designed to try and survive any onslaught by the US .

NCRI forces said the exact number of missiles in the regimes arsenal remains unknown.

Reports from the Centre for Strategic and Internal Studies (CSIS) describe the Iranian arsenal as the largest and most diverse in the Middle East.

CSIS estimates claim Iran has at least 12 types of operational missiles, with a further four in development.

Missiles have become a central tool of Iranian power projection and anti-accts/area denial capabilities, it said.

It also describes Iran has providing proxy groups with a steady supply of missiles and rockets.

Iranian proxies are believed to have been behind a rocket attack on US forces in Iraq that killed an American defence contractor an act which sparked the latest flurry of tensions.

Fears of war have eased after Trump opted not to respond militarily to the Iranian missiles strikes on US bases in Iraq.

However, he announced a raft of tough new sanctions which are only set to further frustrate the Iranian regime.

Iran has promised a harsher revenge and previously committed to abandoning the nuclear deal completely raises fears they will try to develop a nuke.

The crisis owes its roots to Trumps decision to axe the deal, which traded an ease in sanctions for Tehrans commitment not the develop its nuclear capabilities.

Trump used his first campaign election rally of 2020 to argue that he served up "American justice by blowing up Soleimani.

The US President also defended his decision to act without seeking approval from Congress.

They want us to tell them so they can leak it to their friends in the corrupt media," Trump said.

Vice president Mike Pence said also spoke and boasted Trump deserved credit for ridding the world of a dangerous terrorist.

He said: And when American lives were threatened by the most dangerous terrorist in the world, President Donald Trump took action and Qassem Soleimani is gone.

And in the wake of that attack, Iran responded, but thanks to the professionalism of the military, we suffered no American casualties and Iran appears to be standing down. That's what leadership looks like.

And now the Iran crisis could deepen once again as it is claimed regime forces are behind the downing of Ukrainian airliner PS752 .

Iran finally admitted it accidentally shot down the jet with a ground-to-air missile intended for a US base in Iraq.

The aircraft was "unintentionally" shot down, due to human errors, Iranian state television claimed.

In a TV statement, the Iranian military confirmed that the Boeing 737 was shot down due to human error.

The crash came just hours after Iran had struck the US, and it is feared anti-aircraft missiles may have fired upon the Boeing 737 killing all 176 passengers and crew.

Iran however is insisting the aircraft was not shot down and has invited investigators to probe the wreckage.

Chief investigator Hasan Rezaeifa claimed that "the topics of rocket, missile or anti-aircraft system is ruled out".

Jokes aside, what is WW3 really about? by Sanjana Iyer, The Henrietta Barnett School – This is Local London

Only a few days of 2020 have passed, yet social media and the internet has been taken over by jokes, memes and fears about the possibility of a third world war, but how did this trend begin? Furthermore, are we approaching it in the right way?

The phrase World War 3 began trending on platforms such as Twitter after the killing of Irans top general Qasem Soleimani on the 31st of December, due to a US airstrike ordered by President Trump. In response to this, Irans supreme leader Ali Khamenei stated that "I and the government and the nation of Iran strongly condemn this American crime." This threat has sparked conversation and fear that it could potentially trigger a larger-scale conflict. In response to this Trump stated that We took action last night to stop a war. We did not take action to start a war.

Following the unfolding situation, the internet has been bombarded with searches in Iran and World War 3, presumably due to fear and concern. On the other hand, social media and the younger generation have approached the conversation in an entirely different manner. It has been used as inspiration for many memes and jokes about being drafted to the war, and the conflict itself. Although war is not to be taken lightly, the very low possibility of a full-blown World War has given people the reassurance that it is acceptable to joke about the matter. If the likelihood of danger was higher, it is unlikely that this would be deemed as appropriate.

However, the threat and danger of conflict are very real in the Middle East, who at very high risk. Iran, Afghanistan and Syria have been ranked as the most dangerous countries to live in by the Global Peace Index, and in no way find this a joking matter. This raises issues about whether it is right to use the potential deaths of thousands of people as a ground for humour, simply because it is not affecting us directly. Others still defend the right to make jokes, as they claim it is a way of coping.

This controversy has brought to light how increasingly desensitized we have become to the severity of the conflict itself, and to violence in general. Potential reasons could include our overexposure to violence due to video games, films and media (which are becoming increasingly accessible). The constant cycle of violent news seems to be perpetuating this further, leading to why our first response to news of war is to joke about it.

But is it truly right to joke about war, while thousands are fearing for their lives?

Iraqi terrorists threaten to reduce US airbases to rubble as WW3 fears rise – Daily Star

Iraqi terrorists have threatened to turn US airbases in Iraq to rubble in after an airstrike that killed Irans top general Qasem Soleimani.

Kataib Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militia at the centre of current tensions between Washington and Tehran, made the dire warning.

Hassan Nasrallah, the Lebanese secretary-general of Hezbollah, said all US bases, all warships and every single soldier in the region are now a target.

He warned: The true, just retribution for those who conducted this assassination is an institution, which is the U.S. military.

We will launch a battle against those killers, those criminals.

Soleimani, tipped to be the country's future president, was killed as he was leaving Baghdad airport on Friday morning .

He was the head of Irans elite Quds Force, which has been designated by the U.S. as a terror group since 2007.

Soleimani oversaw networks of proxy forces, long been suspected of being behind actions to destabilise the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump afterwards said he ordered the assassination to "to stop a war, not to start one".

The US has since deployed 3,000 extra troops to the Middle East .

On Saturday, Trump warned the US would target 52 sites important to Iran and Iranian culture and hit them very fast and very hard if it attacked US assets.

The head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards aerospace programme, Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said: Firing a couple of missiles, hitting a base or even killing Trump is not valuable enough to compensate for martyr Soleimani's blood.

The only thing that can compensate for his blood is the complete removal of America from the region.

UN headquarters in Iraq evacuated over ‘security threat’ as WW3 fears escalate – Daily Star

In a major escalation of World War 3 fears, the United Nations has evacuated its headquarters in Iraq over an alleged "security threat".

UN personnel have been ordered to leave the Mission in Baghdad's Green Zone, site of the US Embassy and many other major diplomatic buildings.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) was created in August 2003 at the request of the Iraqi government to help with national development efforts throughout the country.

It has around 320 international staff and more than 470 Iraqis working for it across the country.

The evacuation comes as tensions rise in the region following Iranian airstrikes on 15 US targets in Iraq.

Iraq's foreign ministry has lodged official complaints with the UN's Secretary-General and Security Council over US airstrikes on Iraqi soil which killed Iran's top general Qassem Soleimani and several Iraqi militia leaders.

Soleimani died in a drone strike on Friday, sparking furious protests in Iran and Iraq.

Iranian forces this morning launched airstrikes on 15 US targets in Iraq, after previously demanding that American troops leave Iraq.

US President Donald Trump threatened that 52 Iranian targets would be attacked, including a number of culturally significant sites.

A number of NATO troops who had been helping Iraqi troops battle ISIS have started leaving the country.

In a statement, the organisation said it was taking precautions in the wake of war fears, including "the temporary repositioning of some personnel to different locations both inside and outside Iraq."

The US has said it won't issue Iran's foreign minister a visa to travel to the United Nations later this week, claiming there wasn't enough time to process the request.

Mohammed Javad Zarif told "CBS This Morning" on Tuesday that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had informed the UN Secretary-General, who in turn had passed the message on to Zarif.

The visit would have given the top Iranian official a chance to discuss the killing of Suleimani last week and the resulting escalation in tensions.

Today has also seen the crashing of a passenger plane in Iran, killing all on board.

The Ukraine Airlines Boeing 737 came down shortly after taking off from Tehran with 176 crew and passengers losing their lives.

Three Brits are confirmed to be among the victims.

Met Police on extreme alert over Iran-linked terrorism threat amid WW3 fears – Daily Star

Met Police have said they are extremely alert of any threat to Britain amid the ongoing crisis with Iran and fears of World War 3 .

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick said they are monitoring the developing situation in the Middle East.

And she confirmed UK counter-terror policing Neil Basu has been in discussions with the security agencies and government bodies about the crisis.

Iran is known to have a wide-reaching terror network and they are known to have plotted suggested they could launch attacks on Britain.

MI5 foiled a terror plot when Hezbollah militants linked to Iran were found stockpiling tonnes of explosive material on the outskirts of London in 2015.

It comes after Iran launched missiles at US military bases in Iraq in retaliation for the killing of Tehrans top general Qassem Soleimani.

And meanwhile, a Ukrainian airliner crashed in Iran overnight killing 176 people including three Brits.

Dame Cressida said: "It's a very worrying time clearly and we have lots of people of Iranian and Iraqi heritage and the surrounding areas in London, so there's lots for us to think about, lots for us to be alert to.

"What I can say is so far in London we have had no issues directly associated with this, there was one quite small protest.

"But of course we're extremely alert to what this could possibly lead to, but it's a very complex situation. At the moment there's absolutely no impact on London."

The top cop, herself a former chief of counter-terrorism policing, said the force is "very adept" at measuring possible domestic threats linked to international events.

She added: Being the international city that we are, with the multiplicity of communities and also the threats that we have had to face over the years which change and morph all the time, we are very, very adept at seeing what's happening around the world, reaching out into communities and looking at the possible threats and risks that might come.

"That's what we're doing on a day by day basis, and in response to this."

The UK's terror threat level remains at substantial, meaning an attack is likely, after it was lowered in November.

It comes after a top Royal Navy admiral warned Britain must be ready for war to Daily Star Online.

Tehran and its satellite organisations still operate across Europe with the dead general Soleimani being the spider at the centre of a web of terror networks.

And in October, 2018, France froze Iranian assets in response to an alleged bomb plot against an opposition group in Paris.

British intelligence sources have said Iran is believed to pose to the biggest state threat to UK national security aside form China and Russia.

The crisis continues to unfold in the Middle East as the UK condemned Irans actions overnight while also calling for de-escalation.

Iran has also been blamed for cyber attacks on the UK, including an attack on the Post Office and the hacking of MPs and Peers.

The group responsible has been linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Iran claims to have 120,000 trained cyber warfare operatives amid fears of attacks on the West.

And just last week, the US Library service was attacked by Iranian-linked hackers who issued a chilling warning with a picture of a bloodied US President Donald Trump.

Royal Navy warships have already been sent to the Gulf to renew escort duty for tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

The world now waits to how the US will respond following the Iranian attack, but Trump has assured all is well.

UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab told Tehran "not to repeat these reckless and dangerous attacks".

The 22 ballistic missiles were fired at bases including Erbil in northern Iraq and the Al Asad Air Base.

Raab added: "We condemn this attack on Iraqi military bases hosting Coalition - including British - forces. We are concerned by reports of casualties and use of ballistic missiles.

We urge Iran not to repeat these reckless and dangerous attacks, and instead to pursue urgent de-escalation.

A war in the Middle East would only benefit Daesh and other terrorist groups.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the no UK personnel were affected.

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the attacks were a "slap on the face" for the US.

He said: "Military action like this is not sufficient. What is important is ending the corrupting presence of America in the region."

It is feared a conflict in the Gulf could spiral into World War 3 with the term even trending last week following the death of Soleimani.

Iran's ambassador to the UK, Hamid Baeidinejad, said the nation was not seeking a war but that its armed forces are "ready to respond to against any adventurism".

Baeidinejad said in a tweet: "Iran in an act of self-defence as enshrined in the UN Charter, attacked two US military bases.

"Iran does not seek escalation or war.

"Our armed forces are quite ready to forcefully respond against any adventurism.

"Iran's People and government are fully behind their armed forces."

WW3: President’s claim US will take initiative in nuclear war escalation revealed – Express.co.uk

His comments came in a Story magazine article dated November 1961, following the Berlin Crisis over the occupational statusof the German capital. The incident started when the USSR launchedanultimatumdemanding the withdrawal of all armed forces from Berlin, including the Western armed forces inWest Berlin. The crisis culminated in the city'sde factopartitionwith theEast Germanerection of theBerlin Wall, but JFK was worried the Soviets would not stop there.

Assuming forces may try to push further into Europe, he wrote in a magazine article following the events: "Berlin developments may confront us with a situation where we may desire to take the initiative in the escalation of conflict from the local to the general war level.

His commentsreferred toArticle 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which states: The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all.

Consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised byArticle 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

However, they sparked fear worldwide after they were interpreted as plans to launch a nuclear attack on the USSR.

Documents seen byExpress.co.ukreveal a worrying exchange between the UK Ambassador, David Ormsby-Gore, and the President in March 1962.

Mr Ormsby-Gore asked via telegram:Mr President, could you elaborate on the idea attributed to you in a magazine article that there may be circumstances under which we would have to take the initiative in a nuclear war?

To which Kennedy responded: Yes, I think Mr (Jerome David)Salingers statement made it very clear that this was intended to be merely a restatement of a traditional position where if a vital area like Western Europe, was being overrun by conventional forces, that theUS wouldtake means available to defend it.

"It was notintended to suggest, as Mr Salinger said, that this meant the United States would take aggressive action on its own part, or would launch an attack, a so-called preventive attack on its part.

World War Three: Safest bunkers to hide in UK if North Korea deploys nuclear weapon – Express

North Korea leader Kim Jong Un has sparked alarm after he threatened to resume nuclear testing - could we be on the brink of World War Three? Kim announced he is ceasing the suspension of nuclear and long-range missile tests established during talks with the US. The dictator also said North Korea would be introducing "a new strategic weapon".

Kims arsenal is now estimated to include up to 50 nuclear bombs and various delivery systems, including solid-fuel missiles designed to beat missile-defence systems and developmental ICBMs potentially capable of reaching the US mainland.

The leader gave no clear indication that a resumption of such tests was imminent and appeared to leave the door open for eventual negotiations.

However, if the worst does happen and WW3 does break out - where is the safest place to go?

These are the UKs nuclear bunkers built in the event of a disaster.

During the cold war, it served as a nuclear bunker and also housed a BBC studio. The site was sold in 1993 and a cannabis farm of 885 plants was found on the site in 2013.

This historic bunker was built in the 1950s and was designed to fit around 400 politicians underground.

It is found deep underground in Corstorphine Hill. According to Forces Network, the bunker served as Sector Operations Centre for co-coordinating RAF fighter jets and protected Scotland from attacks by Russian long-range nuclear bombers until around 1960.

The 240-acre bunker is in an old underground Bath stone quarry known as Spring Quarry, in Corsham, Wiltshire. After the Cold War, it was taken over by the MoD.

The site was put up for sale in October 2005, and proposed plans for it included a data store or the biggest wine cellar in Europe.

The RAF operations centre at High Wycombe has a nuclear bunker. According to Civil Defence Today, it cost approximately 83million to build.

From this bunker, the warning message would have been issued to the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation (UKWMO) and would be the trigger for today's National attack warning system.

The Anchor telephone exchange in Birmingham is one of three built in the UK before World War II.

The entrance could be found at the back of Telephone House, between Lionel Street and Fleet Street. Another entrance was on Newhall Street.

Workers at the Anchor telephone exchange were not told they were working on a nuclear bunker during construction and could not tell their family about their work.

The building has been closed down now due to asbestos but the Mess Room and Canteen are intact.

This bunker in North Yorkshire, built in April 1959, was manned by Royal Observer Corps (ROC) personnel.

They would monitor the skies and radiation levels and were ready to act to protect the local residents.

Once damaged by vandals, the Castleton bunker has since been restored and is now a museum.

Royal Naval Armaments Depot Coulport, shortened to RNAD Coulport, on Loch Long in Argyll, sorts nuclear warheads for trident.

This bunker in Essex was first built as an air defence station and became a bunker.

Now it is open to the public as a tourist attraction and houses a museum dedicated to the Cold War.

This bunker, in Colgate, York, was built in 1961. It serves as the regional headquarters and control centre for the Royal Observer Corps's No. 20 Group. Now it is an English Heritage Scheduled Monument.

Hiding underneath the ground of this housing estate in Bridgend Wales is a nuclear bunker developed in the 1960s. It was sold in 1996 and entry is denied.

This is a stately home in Evesham, Worcestershire. The Bredon Wing has a 175-foot bunker beneath it.

This site in Cheshire stayed secret for over 60 years.

According to Visit Cheshire, the 35,000 sq ft underground bunker would have been the centre of regional government had nuclear war broken out.

Now the bunker is open to the public and has a Cold War museum.

Found on a former US air base in Cambridge the building was also known as Magic Mountain, and was made with its own decontamination facility along with its own communications and air supply.

While it was closed in 1991, there are plans to redesign it in the event of an attack or natural disaster.

Located underneath High Holborn street, it was built as an air-raid shelter in the 1940s.

Since then, it has been used as a communications centre by the government, the General Post Office and yet is now for sale.

Despite once being home to the deepest licensed bar in the UK as well as a restaurant and games room to wait out a nuclear attack, it is currently not in use.

This bunker - on the Whiteknights Park campus of the University of Reading - dates back to the early days of the cold war.

Designed to protect against nuclear attacks as strong as Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it later became apparent that it would not be fit for containing humans after an attack.

It was taken over the University library and is now a protected building and Grade II listed.

The bunker includes a central map room, control rooms, satellite cabins, offices and communications room, dormitories and a canteen.

It has been described as "remarkably intact."

World War 3 fears have grown today after it was reported that the United States issued an airstrike which eliminated one of Irans most powerful generals Qassem Soleimani.

Who is Qassem Soleimani? Well he was the commander of Irans elite Quds, a branch of the nation's security forces responsible for operations abroad.

The World War 3 fears were subsequently reignited and soon it was trending across various social media circles.

To call it strange would be an understatement.

Twitter feeds that we normally read featuring people complaining about the Nintendo Switch menu screen or FIFA players not getting their weekend league rewards were suddenly filled with WW3 panic.

But for some gamers, we've seen it all before in some guise or another.

If it's not some gloriously over the top Russian general barking orders in Command & Conquer Red Alert 2, it's an elaborate over the top Michael Bay set piece from Battlefield 4.

So whilst we wait for all this military tension to die down, why don't we recall some of the very best World War 3 games to grace out consoles, thanks to the video below by the team at Watch Mojo.

"These are the games that predict the sum of all fears: a modern conflict between first world nations, war with China, Russia & the united States! Nuclear armageddon! The end of days! A conflict to REALLY end all conflicts!"

And here's hoping this WW3 tension dies down and remains very much in the realm of fiction for the foreseeable future.

World War 3: What is the military draft age? Can people be drafted for war in the UK? – Express.co.uk

World War 3 is currently trending on Twitter, as millions of people fear the worst after a US drone strike killed Irans top general. The prospect of all-out war in the 21st century comes with some terrifying implications, among them the military draft.

The military draft, otherwise known as conscription, is an age-old practice of compulsory enlistment into a countrys military.

The draft originates in antiquity and sees people bound to serve in the military unless they have extenuating circumstances.

Draft age varies, but traditionally starts at 18, and few countries still make use of the practice.

READ MORE:UN ambassador warns Soleimani killing is tantamount to declaring WAR'

Many people around the world may currently fear the prospect of conscription if a third world war breaks out, however, most need not worry.

The military draft, while once popular in the first two world wars and other military campaigns namely the Vietnam and Korean wars has been abandoned by many countries.

Others, however, have chosen to hold on to the tradition.

Thankfully for those in the UK, the military draft is no longer in use.

The UK implemented conscription during two distinct periods when World War I and World War II broke out.

UK men aged 18 to 40 were required to enlist during World War I between 1916 and 1920, in what was known as Military Service.

Conscription came around once again in 1939 when the rise of the Third Reich threatened Europe and was in effect from 1939 to 1960 as National Service.

DON'T MISSFrance and Germany under fire as Mike Pompeo laments lack of support- INSIGHTWorld War 3: Is World War 3 happening? Has WW3 been declared?- EXPLAINERHow Trump did not know who General Soleimani was before being elected- EXPLAINER

While there is no forced conscription currently active in the UK, Parliament could pass a law reestablishing it during a time of national crisis.

The same goes for the US, which abandoned the draft in 1973.

However, while the US abolished the draft after the Vietnam War, its remnants became the Selective Service System.

The system requires all men to register within 30 days of their 18th birthday and lists all those who would be potentially subject to the draft.

If the US Congress one day approved a bill which reestablishes forced conscription, the Selective Service System lists who is available.

Selective Service is expected to deliver the first draftees within 193 days of a national crisis.

Other countries never disposed of the military draft, among them the US feared opponents Iran and their strategic ally Russia.

Austria, Greece and a selection of other European countries also make use of the practice.

Concerns about the draft hit the Selective Service System particularly hard, as the organisation noted its website crashed this weekend.

Speaking via Twitter, the service revealed it was experiencing "unusually high traffic volumes" due to the spread of "misinformation".

The service said: "Due to the spread of misinformation, our website is experiencing high traffic volumes at this time.

"If you are attempting to register or verify registration, please check back later today as we are working to resolve this issue. We appreciate your patience."

Brits warned ‘leave Dubai and surrounding areas immediately’ amid WW3 tensions – Daily Star

Holidaymakers and all British citizen's living in the UAE have been warned to get out of the country, which is home to the popular and lavish holiday destination Dubai.

Tensions have severely escalated after Donald Trump ordered a missile strike which killed the top Iranian genera Qaseml Soleiman.

Iranian Professor, Seyed Mohammad Marandi, from the University of Tehran warned the BBC: If I was a Western citizen, I would leave the UAE immediately.

Not only will Iranian leaders retaliate, but also Iraqis.

The Americans have murdered Iraqi war heroes, and this was a senior in Iraqi government official.

The whole regions future is unclear because of the terrorist attack. No matter how you frame it, it is the equivalent of assassinating the British commander of the British armed forces.

This is essentially a declaration of war against Iran and they have a pretty wide menu of retaliation options from which to choose from.

The Iranian reaction mean there are high-level talks of very severe revenge.

Diplomats and experts are currently saying that consequences are unknown.

Some have called the assassination "a powerful political weapon" against the US, but all agree that retaliation is expected.

Previous US presidents have considered assassinating Soleimani before, but decided that the fallout was too great a risk.

The airstrike has caused a frenzy online, with some worrying that World War 3 will begin.

All Brits are being urged to leave all parts of the UAE immediately.

Those who are due to go on holiday to the UAE are advised to contact their travel insurance company.

FCO warn Britons of heightened risk in Egypt as WW3 fears grow – is Sharm el-Sheikh safe? – Express

Britons jetting off on winter sun holidays to Egypt are being warned about the risk of violence as tensions between the Middle East and the US mount. Just months after flights were given the go-ahead to return to holiday hotspot Sharm el-Sheikh, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued an updated travelwarning urging holidaymakers to avoid certain areas in the country.

The updated travel warning comes amid a series of threats between the US and Iran after President Donald Trump launched a targeted attack on an Iranian military leader.

The assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani was part of a US strike in Baghdad on 3 January.

Since then an Iranian religious leader has issued a tweet directed at Trump and threatened severe revenge.

Following the tweets "World War 3" started trending across Twitter.

As a result, the FCO is advising British nationals in areas close to the affected region to remain vigilant and stay up to date on any developments that could see a sudden attack.

READ MORE:First UK flight to Sharm El Sheik since 2015 airline disaster underway [UPDATE]

A statement from the FCO reads: The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to the Governorate of North Sinai.

The FCO advise against all but essential travel to:

the Governorate of South Sinai, except the area within the Sharm el-Sheikh perimeter barrier, which includes the airport and the areas of Sharm el Maya, Hadaba, Naama Bay, Sharks Bay and Nabq.

the area west of the Nile Valley and Nile Delta regions, excluding the coastal areas between the Nile Delta and Marsa Matruh (as shown on the map).

With Egypt close to the border of at-risk countries, the situation poses a concern for Britons holidaying in the popular winter destination.

The terrorism scale for Egypt is also relatively high at the moment, with an attack very likely".

FCO officials warn: There is considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria.

Although most attacks occur in North Sinai, there is a risk of terrorist attacks across the country.

Attacks could be indiscriminate, affecting Egyptian security forces, religious sites, large public gatherings and places visited by foreigners.

Terrorist attacks have occurred over local holiday weekends.

Terrorists have attacked tourists in Egypt in the past.

There is a heightened threat of terrorist attacks targeting Coptic Christians from extremists linked to Daesh-Sinai in Egypt.

You should follow the advice of Egyptian authorities, remaining particularly vigilant and maintaining a high level of security awareness in crowded places and at large gatherings.

The news comes just weeks after the UK government decided it was safe for British tourists to return to Sharm el-Sheikh.

An inaugural flight took off on 19 December, relaunching vacations to the popular destination.

Government officials made the decision to ban all travel to the city in 2015 following a fatal terrorist attack which targeted a flight filled with tourists from the region to Russia.

The fatal attack killed 224 passengers on a flight to St. Petersburg and is considered Russias worst aviation disaster.

Following the incident the British government suspended flights to Sharm el-Sheik, deeming the area unsafe and advising travellers against visiting.

After working closely with the Egyptian government on security precautions, restrictions have since been lifted.

Sharm el-Sheikh is still considered to be largely safe for British tourist, even amid the current crisis.

In a statement in October, the FCO said: Restrictions on flights between Sharm el-Sheikh Airport and the UK have been lifted.

Improvements in security procedures at the airport, and close co-operation between the UK and Egypt on aviation security, mean commercial airlines can now be allowed to operate routes to and from the airport.

This is the first step in the resumption of flights to Sharm El-Sheikh, which is a popular destination for UK holidaymakers. This decision supports air carriers to provide more choice to travellers hoping to visit the country.

However, as the threat of war is on the rise, experts are warning travellers they should remain in the know about current developments which could affect their holiday.

Like Rose McGowan, we are very tired. (Youtube)

Rose McGowan says she is registered Republican even though she hates Trump and, in her own words, imagine how tired we are.

The actress, author and activist justified her decision to vote Republican in a confusing rant on Twitter.

She said she hates the Clintons none of them running for election in 2020 and cannot vote Democrats because she prefers to know what harm I am getting, so I will become a Republican .

This is World War III, so none of that matters anyway, she added, with the hashtags #TeamStayAlive #RoseArmy.

On behalf of Hollywood, we sincerely apologize for Rose McGowan and her vile and soothing fellows for terrorism.

Adam Baldwin (@AdamBaldwin) January 3, 2020

Immediately after his exit as a Republican, McGowan quickly turned around.

I will never vote Republican, she tweeted, apparently forgetting what she wrote a few minutes earlier.

I want the Democrats to win because we are less likely to die. I am a conscientious objector to the United States, their policies, their lies, corruption, nationalism, racism and deep misogyny. As citizens, we have the right and the duty to oppose.

Hours after her Republican tweets, McGowan said she had panicked because we may have an impending war.

Sometimes its okay to panic over those in power, she wrote.

It is our right. This is why so many brave soldiers fought. This is democracy. I dont want any more American soldiers killed. Thats it.

In January 2019, McGowan apologized for claiming that trans women couldnt understand the experience of cisgender women of living in this world as a woman.

She commented on RuPauls podcast Whats The Tee? in July 2017, leading to a lively confrontation with a trans woman during a reading event in February 2018.

She told PinkNews that she was deeply sorry for the whole debacle.

I didnt have the right language, she said. Im, you know, an older woman in Hollywood. It is not exactly the place to understand the language.

World War 3: Top secret RAF mission that saved world from nuclear attack revealed – Express.co.uk

During the Fifties and Sixties, tensions between the Soviet Union andthe UScould not have been higher, as the pair tussled for ultimate supremacy both on the ground and in space. However, Ministry of Defence papers show how the RAF played a vital role in preventing the Soviets from considering launching a nuclear attack. Dated between1986 and 1990, the documents discuss a top secret V-force comprised of strategic nuclear bombers that could reach the USSR in minutes, stealthily avoiding detection and anti-air weapons by flying low.

The papers detail: In 1957 the V-force provided the UK with the ability to deliver nuclear strikes deep into the Soviet Union.

A Canberra (bomber jet) force with US warheads allowed for sub-strategic NATO options.

The demise of the Vulcan bomber and Canberra led to the transfer of this sub-strategic role to the F4 Phantoms inRAFGand Buccaneers in UK and RAFG.

When it became clear that theSoviet Union'ssurface-to-air missiles, like theS-75 Dvina, could bring down high-flying aircraft, the V bomber force was key for practising low-level attack methods.

They were capable of dropping both nuclear and conventional weapons, supported by a complexanalogue computersystem known as theNavigation and Bombing Systemthat allowed accurate bombing even over very long ranges.

Eventually, this technologywas rolled outto other NATO states.

The papers explained:In 1969, Polaris assumed the V-force responsibility.

Subsequently, three Phantoms (US Navy fighters) squadrons handed over to four Jaguar (French attack aircraft) squadrons.

The Buccaneers continued in the UK and in RAFG.

READ MORE:How Harold Wilson plotted nuclear deal with De Gaulle in snub to US

Eventually, Jaguars and Buccaneers handed over to seven Tornado squadrons and those Buccaneers in UK assigned to Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SAUCER) handed over to two Tornado squadrons and 16 other aircraft of the TWCU at Honington.

The Vulcan is also well-remembered for its conventionalBlack Buck bombing raidsduring the 1982Falklands War, to support the change in mission, a tanker aircraft version was also made.

However, the use of all V bombers as weapons platforms, nuclear or conventional, ended after the Falklands.

The Cold War did not thoughas tensions continued foranother nine years until the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1991, after a change in Soviet mindset was implemented underMikhail Gorbachev.

The Chernobyl disaster was a devastating nuclear accident that occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near the city of Pripyat, Ukraine, on April 25, 1986.

What is Putin up to? Secret Russian sub exercise beneath icy waters north of Scotland – Express.co.uk

But there is "absolutely no sign" any of the candidates in next month's general election are taking national defence seriously, a UK-based expert has said. Russian President Mr Putin is determined to make the North Atlantic a place where NATO will "fear to venture", said Iain Ballantyne, whose book, The Deadly Trade, published earlier this year, looks at various aspects of modern warfare. Mr Ballantyne sounded his chilling warning after Northern Fleet submarines Nizhny Novgorod and Pskov staged sparring and tracking war games between Scotland, Greenland and Iceland recently, according to Russian Government newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

The big message from Putins navy here is that it is getting ready again for state versus state war under the sea

Iain Ballantyne

He toldExpress.co.uk: "The big message from Putins navy here is that it is getting ready again for state versus state war under the sea with a peer enemy.

"Russia is muscle-flexing, aiming to deter by showing battle fitness.

"Long gone are the days when Russian submarines rarely went to sea or trained for combat."

The Pskov and Nizhny Novgorod, which are both titanium-hulled deep diving attack submarines, with a high level of stealth, were "rather long in the tooth", having been commissioned almost 30 years ago, when compared with the US Navys Virginia and Sea Wolf classes of attack boats, and the Astutes of the Royal Navy, Mr Ballantyne said.

However, he added: "Both of these Sierra Class submarines, of the Artic-based Northern Fleet, were recently refitted and received upgrades."

Mr Ballantyne stressed that it was a "stretch" to describe the waters where the subs had been operating as Scottish.

He explained: "They were training in the traditional gateway from the High North seas the Russians consider their backyard into broader North Atlantic, namely the Greenland-Iceland-UK (GIUK) Gap of Cold War legend.

"Its a long way from the Scottish mainland. Traditionally, the deadly game under the sea in the Cold War for NATO was to catch the Soviets trying to break through the GIUK Gap and then shadow them, while in time of war they would have tried to stop the Russians breaking out at all.

READ MORE:Russia develops hypersonic weapons no one else owns in WW3 threat

"Therefore, Putin is not trying to establish dominion of the North Sea nuclear submarines generally try to avoid the North Sea as it is shallow and lacks the room for manoeuvre such fast and comparatively large vessels need to fight.

"Conventional diesel-electric submarines of which Russia has quite a few very modern ones do operate in the North Sea."

Nevertheless, in terms of the wider picture, Mr Ballantyne added: "The big league is the North Atlantic and for sure Putin wants his navy to make the High North the Greenland Sea, the seas under the Polar icecap and the Barents Sea mare nostrum for Russia a place NATO will fear to venture."

Neither was it a coincidence that Putin's sabre-rattling was happening against a background of unprecedented strains within NATO, with US President Donald Trump voicing doubts about the future of the alliance, and French President Emmanuel Macron's talk of a European army, he acknowledged.

Mr Ballantyne added: "Since 2014 Russia has been upping the ante in its challenge to the post-Cold War order.

DON'T MISSDonald Trump gets tough on Putin with new wave of sanctions[WORLD]World War 3: How INFTreatyprevented US from being obliterated[VIDEO]Russia vs US: Russia tests medium-range land-based missile - USA loses[ANALYSIS]

"Putin regards the end of the Soviet empire as a tragedy and despite the poor state of the Russian economy, the declining birth rate etc, uses his submarines in particular to punch above his countrys weight especially those vessels capable of firing nuclear strategic weapons.

"His submarines are a means to cow the West and ensure Russia is considered a super power still.

"Putin has, with limited military resources, established considerable influence in the Middle East, aims to do so in North Africa and sees the Arctic waters of the High North as Russias own.

"Submarines are the key element of Russian global power projection and, even with conventional weapons, they could devastate the cities of NATO nations without ever leaving their bastions in the Arctic.

"That is how Putin gains influence and deters foes, coercing potential enemies into staying away from Russias zones of key strategic interest."

On the subject of Russia's constant probing, Mr Ballantyne said the UK was in a vulnerable position.

He added: "The Russians have on several occasions in recent times tested UK anti-submarine Warfare forces, which were badly weakened by David Camerons foolish defence cuts in 2010 and will take a few more years to recover their potency, including via the arrival of the new P-8 Poseidon sub-hunting aircraft.

"However, the UK has too few anti-submarine frigates and is not building nearly enough for its future fleet while also not having the required force levels in its own operational attack submarines - the best counter to a Russian intruder or ASW Merlin helicopters.

"No government in recent times has done enough to safeguard the UK against the rising submarine threat and certainly there are no signs of it being promised by any party in the election.

"Could there be a serious incident? That risk is always there if heavily armed nuclear submarines are in close proximity to each other.

"Things did from time-to-time get rather hairy during the last so-called Battle of the Atlantic, during the Cold War.

"The 21st Century struggle for control of the Atlantic may well see dangerous moments, likely to be kept secret by governments keen not to alarm the public. Hopefully cool heads will prevail."

And with the nationwide poll fast approaching on December 12, there were few indications that any of the major parties was alive to the risks.

Mr Ballantyne said: "There is absolutely no sign the parties are treating national defence seriously.

"As usual they cherry-pick a few topics to discuss to try and make them seem interested in it but its all way short of what is needed.

"Anyone who understands the massive challenges facing the UK, especially in naval defence terms, is far from reassured that the politicians comprehend the sheer scale of rising threats."

World War 3 | WW3 | WWIII | Endtime Ministries with Irvin Baxter

By Irvin Baxter

The question is not, Is there going to be a World War III? It is in your Bible. There is not a one tenth of one percent chance that it is not going to happen. Another world war is coming, and it will be the biggest world war ever. According to the Bible, one out of three people on the earth will die in this war of all wars! The prophecy is found in Revelation chapter nine, verse 15: And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

The third part of men would be over two billion people! Other translations read one-third of the human race, one-third of all the people on earth, one-third of humanity. They all say the same thing. A war is just ahead that will wipe out over two billion human beings!

Prior to the 20th Century, there had never been a war with one million fatalities. Then came World War I in 1914, with 8.2 million dead. They called it The Great War. With the founding of the League of Nations, we had hoped that this type of carnage would never happen again. Twenty years later, 52 million people died in World War II. As if something had come unhinged in the human soul, we cried out, How can we ever stop this? With the founding of the United Nations we had hoped that the solution to world peace was at hand. I have the dreadful assignment of telling you, it is not fixed. There is another war coming. There will neither be 8 million dead nor 52 million dead. This war that is coming will kill 2.2 billion, forty times World War II. It will be the worst war ever.

I cant tell you exactly when this is going to happen, but the Bible tells us where World War III will originate. The Sixth Trumpet prophecy is found in Revelation 9:14-15:

Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

These angels were bound in the Euphrates River, which flows through Turkey, Syria, and Iraq, and empties into the Persian Gulf. War has been raging up and down the Euphrates River since 2003 when the U.S. invaded Iraq. When they are loosed, these evil angels will carry out their assignment to kill one-third of mankind.

Out of the chaos and destruction, a strong leader will rise to promise peace and security. The Antichrist will step onto the world scene at just the right moment. He will provide firm direction but he will also demand absolute obedience.

There are four prophetic developments occurring right now that demonstrate how close we are to the Euphrates River War, otherwise known as World War III.

In Genesis 15:18, God entered into a covenant with Abraham, affirming that the Promised Land would be given to his descendants. The Antichrist, according to Daniel 9: 27 will confirm this covenant with many for seven years. A peace agreement which confirms the covenant will establish Israels right to exist in the Holy Land and will mark the beginning of the final seven years to Armageddon. U. S. Secretary of State John Kerry has set the goal of April 29, 2014 to reach just such a peace agreement between Palestinians and Israelis. A viable two-state solution is the only way this conflict can end, he said, and there is not much time to achieve it, and there is no other alternative.

Halfway through the final seven years, the Antichrist will order the stopping of animal sacrifices on the Temple Mount, which will have been resumed by then. He will then stand in the temple claiming to be God.

II Thessalonians 2:3-4 and Revelation 11:1-2 describe a temple standing on the Temple Mount three and one-half years before Armageddon. Israel has been subsidizing nonprofit organizations that advocate the building of the Third Temple atop Jerusalems holiest site. The Temple Institute is dedicated to the vision of the Temples rebuilding, and has already recreated several items to be used when services are resumed on the Temple Mount.

Revelation 13:16-17 describes the control system which will be implemented during the reign of the Antichrist. During the Great Tribulation, every person on earth will be coerced into pledging allegiance to the Antichrist. Those who do so will be given a unique identification mark or number permitting them to participate in the world economy. Those who refuse will be denied the privilege of buying and selling.

The REAL ID Act mandates that Americans produce federally approved identification upon demand. Although it has repeatedly postponed implementation penalties, the Department of Homeland Security has announced a gradual rollout for enforcing the law, beginning in April, 2014. The Affordable Care Act, often referred to as Obamacare, implements a national ID system disguised within a data hub, and a unique patient identifier to verify eligibility.
