WW3: Dangerous space first as Russia fires weapon from one satellite to another – Daily Express

The aggressive act, authorised by Vladimir Putin, is being seen by defence experts as the first strike on a whole new battle front. Head of the UK militarys Space Directorate said debris resulting from the weapon's deployment was jeopardising satellites vital for the planet.

Precise details of the anti-satellite weapon are unclear but it was launched from Russias Cosmos 2543 satellite and it came close to a second Russian satellite. It is not known if the failure to strike a direct hit was seen as a failure of the test-launch.

But General John W Raymond, head of US Space Command, said: This is further evidence of Russias continuing efforts to develop and test space-based systems, and consistent with the Kremlins published military doctrine to employ weapons that hold US and allied space assets at risk.

The Kremlin has previously carried out low-level tests with weapons in orbit but nothing of this proportion.

One UK defence source said: This is using a satellite as a space weapon. It is a step in the direction of turning space into a new frontline.

A second added: Theyve crossed a line when it comes to the scale of this.

The UK relies on satellites for communications, navigation and weather forecasting.

Air Vice-Marshal Harvey Smyth, chief of the Ministry of Defences space directorate, said: We are concerned by the manner in which Russia tested one of its satellites by launching a projectile with the characteristics of a weapon.

Actions of this kind threaten the peaceful use of space and risk causing debris that could pose a threat to satellites and the space systems on which the world depends.

He added: We call on Russia to avoid any further such testing.

We also urge Russia to continue to work constructively with the UK and other partners to encourage responsible behaviour in space.

Cosmos 2543 was fired into orbit on a Soyuz rocket that was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in north-west Russia on November 26.

A second satellite was linked to it, which separated from it 11 days after the release.

US President Donald Trump said in a phone call last night to Russian President Vladimir Putin that he hoped they could avert an expensive three-way arms race between the US, China and Russia.

General John Raymond, head of US space command, said it was consistent with the Kremlins published military doctrine to employ weapons that hold US and allied space assets at risk.

The US State Department has expressed its concerns that Russian satellites have traits of a space-based weapon.

Dr Christopher Ford, the US assistant secretary of state, said: This event highlights Russias hypocritical advocacy of outer space arms control, with which Moscow aims to restrict the capabilities of the United States while clearly having no intention of halting its own counterspace program.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace told the House of Commons on Wednesday that the UK was deeply vulnerable in space.

He added: The threat against space is regretfully real, our adversaries are weaponizing space and we are deeply vulnerable in the West from those types of actions because we rely so much on space assets.

This is further evidence of Russia's continuing efforts to develop and test space-based systems, and consistent with the Kremlin's published military doctrine to employ weapons that hold US and allied space assets at risk.

The UK said the firing of the projectile with the characteristics of a weapon and warned that it could threaten the peaceful use of space.

End of the world: Conspiracy theorists say Doomsday and WW3 is COMING – claim – Daily Express

Doomsdayers are back on the end of the world prophecy, after analysing signs of the Bible. Some conspiracy theorists are saying the signs of the end times were written in the Bible, and now they are coming to fruition.

Once such sign is the emergence of a global pandemic like coronavirus, which would threaten all life, which Christian website End Times Truth says was spoken of in the Bible.

End Times said: The prophets saw a time of tremendous upheaval and destruction just before the end of this age.

"Some of them predicted that fire would consume all the works of man, while others said it would be a time of thick clouds and darkness.

"Jesus predicted that immediately before He returns the world would experience a time of trouble unparalleled in history where all life would be threatened.

Another sign which is spoken of is a world war, with End Times Truth predicting a likely war which will end in Israel, where Armageddon will take place.

The website said: "The prophets saw a time of tremendous upheaval and destruction just before the end of this age.

"Some of them predicted that fire would consume all the works of man, while others said it would be a time of thick clouds and darkness.

"Jesus predicted that immediately before He returns the world would experience a time of trouble unparalleled in history where all life would be threatened.

"In the Bible, this time is called the Great Tribulation. The prophets predicted that it would start with a war in the Middle East and lead to a global battle.

READ MORE:End of the world: Religions merging a sign of the coming Antichrist

"People today call this World War III, and it ends with a frightening nuclear exchange, which will devastate the world."

Ultimate, the End Times Truth says the end is very near, although there is little - or no - evidence this is the case.

The website said: "The recent fulfilment of End Times Biblical prophecy proves that we are now living in the Last Days.

"Predictions made thousands of years ago are coming true in our generation as never before. This means that the Return of Christ is drawing near, and there is not much time left before judgement comes.

"The current world system of evil is about to end in a fiery conflagration, and a spectacular new world of peace will be set up in its place by the Lord himself."

WW3: Russia ramps up its military force with nuclear powered submarines – Daily Express

Two upgraded nuclear-powered submarines were laid down at the Sevmash Shipyard in Russia on Monday. The two submarines will get hypersonic weapons according to Sevmashs chief executive.

Sevmash CEO, Mikhail Budnichenko, said: Today we are laying down ships with hypersonic weapons, which are the future of the Russian submarine fleet.

President Vladimir Putin attended the ceremony for the Russian Navys first helicopter carriers at the Zaliv Shipyard on the Crimean Peninsula on Monday.

He said the two submarines, Project 885M Yasen-M, would be named the Voronezh and the Vladivostok in honour of the Russian military glory cities.

On Monday, three leading Russian shipyards simultaneously laid down six new ocean-going ships.

Two are universal amphibious assault ships in Kerch on the Crimean Peninsula.

Another two ships are frigates in St.Petersburg and two others are nuclear-powered submarines.

President Putin said the universal amphibious assault ships and the frigates will be named after Russian glorified military and naval commanders.

He said the commanders did much for strengthening the navy.

READ MORE:Russia more of a threat than Cold War following Brexit report

The contract for building the multi-purpose nuclear-powered submarines was signed last year at the Army-2019 international arms show.

The upgraded lead submarine is being prepared for its delivery to the Russian navy in 2020.

The submarines will carry hypersonic missiles as their basic weapons.

This comes as Russian and NATO militaries are increasing their activities in the Arctic.

Both are seeking to heighten their presence in the region as rising temperatures make the area more accessible, according to Business Insider.

Russian and NATO forces are in close proximity in the European Arctic.

In 2018, a US aircraft carrier flew above the Arctic Circle for the first time since the 1990s.

Since then, US navy ships have travelled to the high north several times.

In May, US navy surface ships sailed into the Barents Sea for the first time in over 30 years.

Russia called the US exercise provocative and conducted their own live-fire exercise days later.

General Jeffrey Harrigian, commander of the US Air Forces in Europe, told Business Insider: The Arctic remains a key area for us to continue to best understand how we will operate up there, and key to me for that is how we operate with our partners.

In 2019, US airmen travelled to an island in the Norwegian Sea to test if military transport aircraft could land there.

This US exercise in 2019 alarmed Russia.

Mr Harrigian said it was crystal clear US partners have the best understanding of the Arctic so our reliance on them, and the interaction, as demonstrated by our visit up there to learn from our partners, is really going to be key to our success.

Big Brother Evictees Slam Fame-Hungry Housos Who Plan To Start ‘WW3’ At The Live Eviction – Pedestrian TV

The Big Brother finale is right around the corner and all your fave former Housemates have just touched down in Sydney in honour of the blessed event.

But not all of the Housemates are quite so happy to see each other as theres a rumour that certain members of the team plan on causing a scene at the live finale.

The most recently evicted contender Sarah McDougal has just thrown some shade at her peers and the tea is extra tasty.

I think some of the people who left earlier on in the series are going to try and blow it up to get their 10-seconds of fame, she told Daily Mail Australia.

Sarah was evicted in last nights episode. (Credit: Seven)

The army cadet said shes trying to roll with the punches. If someone has something to say, Ill definitely say something back. Im just keen to celebrate the final three.

She went on to diss the fame-hungry Housemates who she believes never had an impact on the game.

I think the only people hoping it blows up never had an impact on the game and theyre just trying to get back in the spotlight for their 20-seconds, she said.

Especially in the environment we were in, some people thought they would become more of a household name than it actually did become.

I would be disappointed if people went to the finale with the sole expectation to start drama, because its all in the past and were all adults, she concluded.

Its one or two people that are starting all this drama and its solely for them to get their name back out there, she said, adding that it was so frustrating for her.

Meanwhile, Kieran Davidson told the publication that he reckons World War Three will break out at the live finale.

He claimed tensions had been high between some housemates after a secret mole leaked private messages from a group chat between the cast.

I still speak with everyone, Im quite a social person, but it will be very different to see how it all plays out [for everyone else] at the finale, Kieran said.

The live finale is set for Wednesday night.

WW3 warning: Japan planning rapid increase in armed forces to combat China’s aggression – Daily Express

Tokyo revealed it is considering a huge increase to its defence capabilities as it accused China of pushing territorial claims amid growing tensions in the region. The East Asia nation released its annual defence review, where said Beijing has been pushing its territorial claims amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The nation said it suspected China of spreading propaganda and disinformation as it provides medical aid to nations fighting COVID-19.

In a defence white paper approved by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's government, Japan said China "is continuing to attempt to alter the status quo in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.

The white paper said: Japan must strengthen its defence capability at speeds that are fundamentally different from the past.

China has relentlessly continued unilateral attempts to change the status quo by coercion in the sea area around the Senkaku islands, leading to a grave matter of concern.

The white paper described "relentless" intrusions in waters around a group of islets claimed by both nations in the East China Sea, known as the Senkaku in Japan and the Diaoyu in China.

In the South China Sea, Japan said Beijing was asserting territorial claims by establishing administrative districts around disputed islands, that forced countries distracted by the coronavirus outbreak to respond.

READ MORE:China backlash: Beijing ready to PUNISH Boris Johnson

Japan sees China as a longer-term and more serious threat than nuclear-armed North Korea.

Beijing now spends four times as much as Tokyo on defence as it builds a large modern military.

Japan's defence review also claimed China appeared to be responsible for "propaganda" and "disinformation" amid "social uncertainties and confusion" caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

DON'T MISSChina-UK conflict fears explode as Beijing condemns carrier move[INSIGHT]China reports NEW unknown disease spreading across Asian country[REVEALED]South China Sea warning: US policy raises risk of China clash - expert[OPINION]

Such disinformation included online claims that the coronavirus was brought to China by a US military member, or that Chinese herbal remedies could treat COVID-19, a defence ministry official said at a briefing.

Other threats faced by Japan include North Korea's ongoing development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles as well as a resurgence of military activity by Russia in the skies and waters in Japan, at times in joint drills with China, the defence review said.

China and Japan have historically had a difficult relationship.

However, in 2018, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to deepen cooperation.

Mr Abe said: As major economic powers of the region, China and Japan should take the responsibility to play constructive roles in safeguarding peace, stability, development and prosperity of the region and the world.

The two met on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

Japan's attack against China echoes similar criticisms made by the US and comes as tension in the region increases as Beijing and Washington conduct separate military drills in the resource-rich South China Sea and as relations between the world's two largest economies deteriorated.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday rejected China's disputed claims to offshore resources in most of the South China Sea, saying they were "completely unlawful".

Beijing insists its intentions in the waterway, through which around $3trillion of global trade passes each year, are peaceful.

Queens WW3 speech exposed amid imminent nuclear threat: Let’s pray for our country – Express

The address for Her Majesty was written by Whitehall officials at the height of the Cold War, as the US and Soviet Union jostled to become the ultimate global superpower. The document, released by the Government under the 30-year rule in 2013, was drawn up as part of a war-gaming exercise in the spring of 1983, which worked through potential scenarios. It came in the same year that US President Ronald Reagan enraged Moscow with his denunciation of the Soviet Union as the "evil empire" and the text of the Queen's address written to be broadcasted at midday on Friday, March 4, 1983 would prepare the country for World War 3.

It reads: "The horrors of war could not have seemed more remote as my family and I shared our Christmas joy with the growing family of the Commonwealth.

"Now, this madness of war is once more spreading through the world and our brave country must again prepare itself to survive against great odds.

"I have never forgotten the sorrow and the pride I felt as my sister and I huddled around the nursery wireless set listening to my father's [George VI's] inspiring words on that fateful day in 1939.

"Not for a single moment did I imagine that this solemn and awful duty would one day fall to me.

"But whatever terrors lie in wait for us all, the qualities that have helped to keep our freedom intact twice already during this sad century will once more be our strength."

Striking a personal note, the script continues: "My husband and I share with families up and down the land the fear we feel for sons and daughters, husbands and brothers who have left our side to serve their country.

"My beloved son Andrew is at this moment in action with his unit and we pray continually for his safety and for the safety of all servicemen and women at home and overseas.

"It is this close bond of family life that must be our greatest defence against the unknown.

"If families remain united and resolute, giving shelter to those living alone and unprotected, our country's will to survive cannot be broken."

The speech concludes by saying the Queen's message to the nation was "simple".

It adds: "As we strive together to fight off the new evil, let us pray for our country and men of goodwill wherever they may be. God Bless you all.

In the war games exercise, Orange bloc forces representing the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies launched a chemical weapon attack on the UK.

Blue forces representing NATO retaliated with a "limited-yield" nuclear strike, hoping to force Orange to initiate a peace process.

But, had this hypothetical scenario actually happened, Britain would have also been put on alert along with other countries in NATO to expect an imminent nuclear missile attack from the USSR.

There were several tense moments between 1946 and 1991, where the possibility of a nuclear attack looked more than possible from both nations, but arguably nothing came closer than the period of unrest between 1981 and 1983.

Soviet fears were originally born out of World War 2, when US President Harry Truman kept a secret from Joseph Stalin about the true force of his nuclear weapons that were later dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

As a result, the Kremlin scrambled to arm itself with a nuclear arsenal capable of matching that of their new rivals.

By May 1981, these fears had reached an all-time as Soviet leader General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev and KGB chairman Yuri Andropov bluntly announced that the US was preparing a secret nuclear attack on the USSR.

Mr Andropov announced the KGB would begin Operation RYaN (Nuclear Missile Attack) the largest, most comprehensive intelligence operation in Soviet history.

Consequently, mass paranoia set in among Soviet leaders regarding the US plans, as memories of Nazi Germany's surprise invasion of the USSR still haunted them.

These fears were not helped by the actions and rhetoric of Mr Reagan.

Asides from his evil empire comments, he also announced a new medium-range nuclear missile to be introduced into Europe Pershing II which could reach the Soviet Union from West Germany in six minutes.

He then sparked a period of psychological warfare, where US fighter jets would test the reactions of the USSR by briefly flying into their airspace.

Just two weeks later, Reagan announced one of the most ambitious and controversial components to this strategy, the Strategic Defence Initiative, popularly known as Star Wars.

While Reagan portrayed the initiative as a safety net against nuclear war, leaders in the Soviet Union viewed it as a definitive departure from the relative weapons parity of Detente and an escalation of the Arms Race into space.

At the start of September, the psychological warfare had dire consequences when Korean Air Lines Flight 007 was shot down by a Soviet interceptor when it entered Soviet airspace.

All 269 passengers and crew aboard were killed, including Congressman Larry McDonald, a sitting member of the United States House of Representatives from Georgia and President of the anti-communist John Birch Society.

On September 26, 1983, the Soviet orbital missile early warning system (SPRN) reported a single intercontinental ballistic missile launch from the US, believed to be an act of retaliation.

Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov, who many have since hailed a hero for saving the world from complete destruction, was on duty that night.

While many in the bunker that night believed the launch to be a genuine retaliation from the US, one man kept a cool head.

Despite three warnings of an imminent attack, Petrov remembered his nuclear training, knowing the US would launch more than three rockets in the event of a real nuclear war.

The timing of NATOs yearly Able Archer exercise could not have come at a worse time for the USSR.

In November, Able Archer 83, an exercise to simulate nuclear war, was carried out by NATO forces.

While it was simply a communications test, paranoid Soviet agents believed this was exactly how the US would mask a real attack.

The Soviet politburo believed their only chance of surviving a NATO strike was to preempt it, and so readied its nuclear arsenal.

The CIA reported activity in the Baltic Military District and in Czechoslovakia, and it determined that nuclear-capable aircraft in Poland and East Germany were placed "on high alert status with readying of nuclear strike forces".

Days later, on November 11, 1983, Soviet fears were ended upon learning the Able Archer exercise had finished thanks to double agent Oleg Gordievsky.

Mr Reagan would later comment: "I don't see how they could believe that but it's something to think about."

Despite this, many historians including Thomas Blanton, Director of the National Security Archive, and Tom Nichols, a professor at the Naval War College, have since argued that Able Archer 83 was one of the times when the world has come closest to nuclear war since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.

The Soviet Union and the US later negotiated a reduction in the number of nuclear weapons, as the Cold War came to an end, but it was Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) that would ultimately stop the pair from an all-out nuclear war.

Brothers in arms: UK and US sign ‘battle-winning’ defence deal in sign of post-Brexit unit – Express.co.uk

Defence Minister James Heappey stressed the deal would help the UK forge a "battle-winning edge" - and demonstrated "Global Britain" remained the "partner of choice" for the US. Today's agreement, which covers the period from 2023 to 2027, paves the way for a series of collaborations between the two armies aimed at improving cooperation in the face of the constantly evolving nature of modern warfare.

This agreement signals our shared determination to develop the novel capabilities that will give us that battle-winning edge

James Heappey

Priorities include shared digital infrastructure; long Range Precision Fires; working closely to improve helicopter capability; land forces; and Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing (APNT).

The signing took place at the Ministry of Defence in Whitehall, where Armed Forces minister Mr Heappey and Ryan D McCarthy, the US Secretary of the Army discussed in detail the plans to work together to modernise systems.

Mr Heappey said: "In an age of great power competition and constant conflict, there is an even greater onus on us to work together with our greatest allies.

"This agreement signals our shared determination to develop the novel capabilities that will give us that battle-winning edge and opportunity for the defence industry on both sides of the Atlantic.

"It is a reminder that, in a more challenging and uncertain world, Global Britain remains the United States partner of choice."

Mr McCarthy added: "The United Kingdom, one of our strongest allies, has helped secure our shared interests and values since the World Wars of the last century.

READ MORE:China DARES rivals to intervene with provocative move - WW3 fears rise

"Today, we continue to rely on our allies to posture ourselves for future threats, project power, deter and, if necessary, defeat our adversaries.

"This partnership allows costly and complex problems to be distributed and helps protect the industrial base through enabling faster innovation and cost-sharing towards achieving our modernisation priorities."

The deal has been agreed in parallel to the imminent Integrated Review, with modernisation and pioneering capabilities at its core, an MoD spokesman said.

DON'T MISSKashmir crisis: Pakistans moderates threatening nuclear war[LATEST]India-Pakistan fury: New Delhi demands Islamabad terror crackdown[UPDATE]India-Pakistan fury: Fears of all out war over Kashmir[KASHMIR]

The review will look at the best ways of modernising military equipment and improving the capability of the UK's armed forces and intelligence agencies.

Assessing the scope of the Integrated Review in an analysis published by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) earlier this month, Professor Peter Roberts, Director of Military Sciences, said: "The requirement for the Review to take a position on the UKs role in the world remains central: there is still a pressing need to move beyond glib assertions of Global Britain and provide some substance.

"For, while the Reviews task remains unchanged, the answers may now be different."

"The world certainly looks different now as the perceptions of threats (or at least our understanding of their impact) change."

Additionally, once as parts of the world emerge from the health crisis at different speeds to others and with different implications for their economies, there was likely to be a shift in the balance of power between different states, Mr Roberts warned.

He added: "This may intensify challenges to the existing international order, as those striving for change gain in relative influence.

"For status quo powers such as the UK, the need to define a new set of strategic objectives becomes an imperative."

Dominic Cummings, Mr Johnson's senior adviser, is believed to be a driving force behind the review.

A frequent critic of the MoD, he outlined his concerns is a scathing blog last year, in which he said: "The officials in charge of multi-billion processes are mostly mediocre, often appalling.

"In the MoD corruption adds to the problems."

World War 3: Trump poised to re-start nuclear weapons testing to SCARE China – Express.co.uk

US nuclear tests were discussed at a meeting between senior officials representing top national security agencies in America according to the Washington Post.North Korea is the only country to have tested nuclear weapons this century.

Stephen Herzog, a fellow at Harvard Universitys Project on Managing the Atom, toldExpress.co.ukthe decision to resume nuclear testing in Nevada would serve as a green light for China, Russia and other nuclear powers to follow suit.

The former US Department of Energy nuclear testing specialist, Mr Herzog, said: The result would be a more dangerous world in terms of arms racing and modernisation of nuclear weapons.

Mr Herzog said the Trump administration apparently believe a rapid nuclear test could scare China and Russia into offering concessions in nuclear arms control.

He described how the opposite would be more likely to happen if the US were to go ahead with nuclear testing and said: Beijing and Moscow would become less willing to negotiate with Washington and would consider conducting their own nuclear tests.

And for what? A fully instrumented nuclear test with scientific merit would take the US around 18 months to prepare.

A rapid nuclear test as proposed could take place in a matter of months, but it would be crude and lack benefits for maintaining or modernizing the US arsenal.

The nuclear gamble will hit the presidential campaign leading up to the American election which will take place at the start of November.

President Donald Trump and former Vice-President Joe Biden, the current presumptive Democratic nominee, have been campaigning during the coronavirus pandemic.

Research conducted by Mr Herzog, Jonathan Baron and Nuclear Knowledges between August-November 2019 suggests nuclear testing is unpopular.

The majority of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans in America do not support nuclear testing, the research claims.

As Mr Herzog explains, a predictable 81.7 percent of Democratic do not want nuclear testing.

But even for Republicans 58.6 percent said they do not support nuclear testing.

Mr Herzog said: Moving toward a nuclear test could particularly damage Trumps electability in Nevada, where a test would be conducted, and in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah home to communities of downwinders.

Downwinders are people affected by radioactive contamination from past nuclear tests in the US.

Mr Herzog added: New Mexico is expected to vote for Joe Biden, but Arizona and Nevada are battleground states.

Utah has a long history of supporting Republican presidential candidates. The loss of any of these states could swing the election in favour of Biden.

Americans have a lot of other issues to consider, including the COVID-19 pandemic, structural racism and police brutality, and a flailing economy.

Mr Biden has described the reported renewed nuclear weapons testing as reckless.

In a statement the former Vice-President said: The possibility that the Trump administration may resume nuclear explosive weapons testing in Nevada is as reckless as it is dangerous. We have not tested a device since 1992; we dont need to do so now.

Iran lashes out at West for ‘disinformation’ as it desperately attempts to cover-up blasts – Express.co.uk

State Broadcaster IRIB said an explosion was heard in Western Tehran on Friday citing online reports that officials in that part of the city denied.IRIB said power was cut in the area where the blast occurred but provided no further information about the cause of the blast or possible casualties.

However, locals suggested the blasts took place in Garmdareh, a small town which is home to a number of military garrisons.

Locals also reported hearing three or four mortar-like sounds similar to anti-aircraft weapons.

However, the Iranian government has played down the incident accusing the West of spreading disinformation that the attack was caused by a foreign player.

Leila Vaseghi, the governor of Qods near Garmdareh added an explosion had not taken place stressing a power outage had taken place.

She told IRIB: The power outage also occurred in a limited area for five or six minutes, and power outages did not occur extensively.

The head of the fire department in Qods also denied receiving any reports of an incident or explosion in the past 24 hours.

The incident comes amid speculation about the cause of a fire at Iran's underground Natanz nuclear facility last week.

The facility is the centrepiece of Iran's enrichment programme, which Tehran says is for peaceful purposes.

It is understood the fire caused significant damage that could slow the development of advanced centrifuges used to enrich uranium, an Iranian nuclear official said.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation, added: "The incident could slow down the development and production of advanced centrifuges in the medium term.

Iran will replace the damaged building with a bigger one that has more advanced equipment,

"The incident has caused significant damage but there were no casualties."

Some Iranian officials also said it may have been cyber sabotage and one warned that Tehran would retaliate against any country carrying out such attacks.

Iran's state news agency IRNA addressed what it called the possibility of sabotage by enemies such as Israel and the United States, although it stopped short of accusing either directly.

Irans Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abbas Mousavi rejected claims however that it was the work of Israel.

Speaking today, he said: It is still too early to make any judgment on the main cause of the blast, and relevant security bodies are probing into every detail of the incident.

He stressed that if Iran concludes that foreign elements were involved, it will be announced and there would be repercussions.

China pulls back from disputed border with India as Beijing eyes new contested area – Express.co.uk

Tensions erupted in violence last month when Chinese soldiers killed 20 Indian troops after attacking them with clubs and rods in the disputed Galwan Valley in the western Himalayas. The Chinese military was seen dismantling tents and structures at a site near to where the the clash took place and vehicles were seen withdrawing from the area, as well as two other contested border zones at Hotsprings and Gogra.

First Nepal, now Bhutan, they are testing us

Kanwal Sibal

Both sides said they had agreed to a significant disengagement of troops. India's note also said both sides had agreed to respect the existing Line of Actual Control (LAC) after "a frank and in-depth exchange of views".

But Beijing is now seeking to open another front in the regions territorial spat with India with a new claim in nearby Bhutan.

India is talking to Bhutan amid Chinas attempts to stoke a fresh dispute around a wildlife sanctuary.

Security sources said India believes Beijing's latest move over the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary in eastern Bhutan is to provoke New Delhi.

They said the sanctuary shares a border with Arunachal Pradesh, an Indian state which China claims as its own.

Chinas sudden claim over the Sakteng sanctuary came to light last month during a virtual meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), a multilateral, international initiative that works in partnership with the United Nations.

During a discussion on a project for the sanctuary, China described it as a disputed territory.

READ MORE:WW3 warnings: China puts India on alert with bombing tests

The claim was immediately rejected by Bhutan, which said the sanctuary was an integral and sovereign territory of Bhutan and at no point during the boundary discussions between Bhutan and China has it featured as a disputed area.

The sources said the Chinese claim was Beijings way of punishing Bhutan for the support it gave India during the 2017 stand-off in the Doklam plateau, which falls on the India-China-Bhutan tri-junction.

Security experts agree the fresh Chinese claim is Beijings bid to pressure Bhutan to provoke India.

"There are some major mistakes happening in Chinas decision-making. First Nepal, now Bhutan, they are testing us, but by doing this they are only sullying their own image internationally.

Bhutan will now have to handle it well. During Doklam also they helped India but publicly they maintained distance.

Beijing's position has taken some observers by surprise. as the two sides have tried to settle their differences over areas in western and central Bhutan.

But this is the first time China has raised any claims to territory in eastern Bhutan and experts said it had simply not figured in any bilateral negotiations before now.

WW3 fears: Kim Jong-Un rejects talks with Trump over North Koreas nuclear programme – Express.co.uk

North Korean vice foreign minister Choe Son Hui has warned the US Kim Jong-Un has no intention of changing policy and surrendering its nuclear weapons.Kim Jong-Un and Donald Trump have met three times during the US Presidents first term.

In their second meeting in 2019, talks broke down after chairman Kim failed to offer enough nuclear weapons or ballistic missiles in exchange for lifting international sanctions.

In a statement carried by the state-run KCNA news agency, Mr Hui questioned the motive of the US and accused Washington of using the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DRPK) for political reasons.

Mr Hui said: We do not feel any need to sit face to face with the US as it does not consider the DPRK-US dialogue as nothing more than a tool for grappling its political crisis.

He added: There will never be any adjustment and change in our policy, conditional on external parameters like internal political schedule of someone.

The refusal to engage with Washington comes as US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun, who led previous working-level negotiations with North Korea, is due to visit neighbouring South Korea to discuss relations.

The North Korean vice foreign minister also accused Washington of having a hostile policy towards Pyongyang and going back on previous agreements.

Mr Hui added any potential negotiations would be a waste of time and insisted the US is mistaken for thinking talks could achieve anything.

He said: "Is it possible to hold dialogue or have any dealings with the US which persists in the hostile policy toward the DPRK in disregard of the agreements already made at the past summit.

It is clear to us, even without meeting, as to what shallow trick the US will approach us with, as it has neither intention nor will to go back to the drawing board.

"The US is mistaken if it thinks things like negotiations would still work on us."

WW3 threat erupts on EU border: Greece readies for war as fears of Turkish ‘invasion’ grow – Express.co.uk

Greek military commanders have carried out a series of intense military drills amid an escalation of tensions with Turkey. On Friday, Greek Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos accused Istanbul of aggressive behaviour, claiming Athens was ready to defend itself against Turkey by any means necessary. The EUs top diplomat Josep Borrell also intervened this week, as he urged Turkey to respect the sovereignty of Greece.

Tensions have sky-rocketed in recent days after Turkey announced that the country will begin drilling for oil and gas inside Greeces maritime borders in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Greece has hit back at this move and put its armed forces on alert for a military conflict with Turkey.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a letter to the European Union, stating that this move would lead to a Turkish-European crisis.

Mr Panagiotopoulos told TV reporters on Friday: Of course Turkeys stance has recently been rather aggressive.

"I believe that the only way Greece can deal with it is, on one hand, to exhaust all its diplomatic weapons, and on the other, to cater for the increase of the deterrence power of the Armed Forces."

JUST IN:Merkel vs Trump: Germany rages at US President over troops pullout

Asked if these efforts include preparations for a military conflict, the defence minister said that Greece is preparing for all eventualities, including military engagement".

He added: We do not want this to happen. However, we are making it clear toward all directions that we will do what it takes to defend our sovereign rights to the greatest extent, if you catch my drift."

General Konstantinos Floros, who serves as the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, echoed the Defence Minister's claims.

He said the military are ready to perform their duties in defending Greece at a time when Turkey "is threatening to invade the Eastern Aegean islands, Crete and Western Thrace".

The EU's Borrell said Brussels was monitoring developments while being in close contact with Athens.

Relations between the two NATO members have been poor for centuries following several major wars between the two sides.

There have also been tensions over Cyprus, military confrontations in the Aegean Sea, and recent concerns that Turkey was deliberately threatening Europe with an influx of refugees on its borders.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a press conference in Ankara on Thursday where he announced his plans to proceed with oil exploration and drilling in maritime territories that are part of Greece.

Earlier this week, National Security Advisor Vice Admiral Alexandros Diakopoulos warned that Greece was ready to react militarily if Ankara violated its waters, but added that the government currently believes that such a thing will not be needed.

He added: "Of course, Turkey knows that it does not have international law on its side, and that is why it is trying to bring our country into a purely political debate."

WW3: Forgotten letter reveals how JFK avoided end of the world during nuclear stand-off – Express.co.uk

While the worlds eye has turned to combatting the coronavirus pandemic, its widely understood that a greater challenge and threat may lie on the horizon. Despite international cooperation to develop a vaccine for COVID-19, its known that this brief period of peace and unity will certainly not last. World War 3 could be lying just around the corner and the all-out nuclear warthat couldwipe-out humanity once and for all. Escalating tensions with Iran, North Korea and other nations, send tremors along the carefully constructed balance that is held together by peace treaties and unilateral agreements.Theconcerning challenges world leaders face today are not too dissimilar from thoseseen by John F Kennedy(JFK), during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was then feared that a failed reconnaissance mission leading to the only death during that period could have provoked a nuclear attack. An unearthed letter shared withExpress.co.uk, revealed the tragic tale of that one casualty and how his death led to the lifesaving de-escalation that would keep humanity safe for decades.

At the time President Kennedy wasembroiled in a bitter stand-off with the Soviet Union, where every decision he made could have had life-altering consequences for the world.

Tensions were feared to have been escalated beyond breaking point, when Cuba shot down a U-2 spy plane dispatched by the US to secretly photograph the growing arsenal of world-ending weapons amassed by the nation.

The failed reconnaissance mission, which caused the only death of the Cuban Missile Crisis, was feared to be an aggressive action that would start all-out-war.

This was considered to bethemost concerning moment of the stand-off and would lead to President Kennedy offering Cuban leader Fidel Castro a top secret peace deal.

An unearthed letter from the US President at that time reveals the heartbreak and immense pressure consuming the leader.

The historically important condolence note, which had been hidden away for decades, was sold by Heritage Auctions on Thursday and was revealed toExpress.co.uk.

Heritage Auctions sold the extremely rare piece typed and signed by President Kennedy for a staggering $20,000 (16,100).

One of their historians Curtis Lindner explained why this letter to the widow of Rudolf Anderson Jr, was part of such a seminal moment in US history.

He toldExpress.co.uk:It holds such historical meaning because of what was going on in our country at that time.

People truly lived in the fear that there would be a nuclear war and more than 100 million Americans would be killed.

This may have been a different world had President Kennedy not have handled it the way that he did.

The letter praised Mr Anderson Jrs courage and the outstanding abilities demonstrated throughout his military career before an incredible admission.

JUST IN:Olympics exposed: Why firefighters became event's most bizarre sport

Present Kennedy wrote the heartfelt note onNovember 5, 1962,just over a week after Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev agreed to dismantle and remove the missiles from Cuba.

This wasnt the only letter the US leader was revealed to have written to the grieving widow a second lies in the National Archives according to Heritage Auctions.

Mr Lindner toldExpress.co.uk: The President wrote to the widow offering the condolences of him and the country - there he explained that her husband was a hero.

We dont know why he chose the second draft that we have up for auction but it could have been that he might not have liked the wording.

The letter read: In recent weeks, Major Anderson responded to the urgent requirements of his country.

His tragic loss on a mission of the most vital national urgency was the supreme sacrifice of a brave and patriotic man.

On behalf of a grateful nation, I wish to convey to you and your children the heartfelt condolences of all the people.

In recognition of his exceptionally meritorious service, President Kennedy awarded him a Distinguished Service Medal.

The letter, which went under the hammer on Tuesday, was snapped up for more than double the estimate which Mr Lindner believes was due to the importance of President Kennedys assassination.

He said: Just like Princess Diana, Martin Luther King and others, with items related to President Kennedy there is a lot of interest because of the What ifs of their lives.

With Kennedy who knows what great things he could have gone on to do.

He also believes the importance of the lot detailing the only casually of the Cuban Missile Crisis could have peaked collectors interests coupled with the fear that was associated with that dark time in history.

Mr Lindner said: People were terrified, they put in underground bunkers, children had drills in schools where they had to hide under their desks.

Even President Kennedy told his wife Jacqueline to take their herself and their children to asafeplace in Virginia, fearing something horrible was about to happen to the country.

My parents were convinced there would be nuclear war too, they never thought myself or my brother would live into adulthood.

So when all of the missiles were taken out of Cuba, America breathed a giant sigh of relief.

The 9 nuclear superpowers that could spark WW3 ending the world in 60 seconds – Daily Star

While the coronavirus crisis continues to grip the globe, a potentially far-more deadly disaster looms on the horizon.

Tensions between top nuclear powers have reached an all-time high, with China facing the wrath of US President Donald Trump, who is demanding answers as millions risk dying from the deadly disease.

Fears have grown so much in Beijing that Chinas leaders have warned of a massive international backlash amid claims the country did not sound the alarm early enough to prevent the global pandemic.

Amid the fiery tirades being aimed at the Communist Party from Washington, Chinas leaders are also alleged to have given the green light to carry out a nuclear test last year.

In a US State Department report published on April 15, the nuclear exercises are believed to have happened underground at the Lop Nur test site.

This is despite China having signed up to an international treaty that forbids such tests.

It has sparked fears that new webs of complex alliances could emerge on the horizon as the US flexes its military muscles just as a groundbreaking treaty - designed to curb the number of nukes - is set to expire next year.

If it is not renewed, a fresh arms race could be ignited - with all nuclear superpowers potentially looking to up their arsenals.

Any increase in the world's nuclear warheads would also bolster the chances of life being wiped out on Earth, with the Global Catastrophic Risk Conference in Oxford claiming in 2008 that as many as one billion people could die in such a conflict.

It did, however, put the chances of a full-scale WW3 -like conflict happening by the end of the century as low as 1/100. But, they did warn that smaller-scale nuclear wars between rival nations could be far more likely.

These are some of the power plays that could be made by superpowers, which could end the world as we know it within minutes.

United States

By far the biggest superpower that has pumped the most cash into its military, the US is estimated to have just under half of the worlds estimated 13,000 nuclear weapons.

Its massive arsenal dwarfs all other powers combined with the exception of old Cold War enemy Russia and could be used as leverage against Trumps rivals once the coronavirus crisis comes to an end.

He could even remind China, that the US President always has the nuclear football a briefcase with which to order a nuke strike near him at all times and could launch an attack in less than 60 seconds.

There is hope, however, that Trump can ease the situation with China after he offered the nation to be a part of a new triple arms control treaty.

Unfortunately, there is a snag with the plan, namely China itself.

Arms Control Association (ACA) estimated nuclear weapons: 6,185

China

Leaders in Beijing have been dominating global affairs for the last two decades, with Chinas Communist Party building alliances, expanding its influence and carving out lucrative deals in Africa and Asia.

Beijings bureaucrats will be wanting to hold onto whatever influence they have and there have been allegations made by US National Security advisors that China wants to expand its small number of nuclear warheads to gain a level footing with both Russia and Washington.

It has so far rejected any calls to sign up to a three-way deal with the US and Russia to limit its nukes, claiming its arsenal is too small to be considered a serious threat.

But with the US leading the charge of demanding swift action from China on transparency and other issues once the coronavirus comes to an end, Beijing bosses could feel backed into a corner and up the ante with building even more nukes.

Chinese leaders have insisted in the past they can hold off the US, as long as they have the ability to strike back at a small number of targets presumably US cities.

This would allow it to stop any foreign invasion if it decides to push its claims on Taiwan, which China considers to be a break-away county.

ACA estimated number of warheads: 290

North Korea

The most recent addition to the nuclear powers list, the Hermit Kingdom first acquired the weapons of mass destruction in 2006 as a desperate bid to preserve its existence.

Free to panic about a sudden invasion or foreign-backed coup attempt, North Korea uses its nuclear weapons as a means to get leverage from outside nations.

This tactic was in effect most recently back in 2016, when Pyongyang leaders claimed to have carried out the countrys first hydrogen bomb test.

North Koreas shameless antics continued through into 2017-18, with the communist nation carrying out a series of missile and nuclear tests, which resulted in the US coming very close to engaging in some sort of retaliation according to White House representative Nick Rivero.

But, the North managed to get US President Donald Trump to the negotiation table something that might happen with China in a number of failed denuclearisation meetings between the leader of the free world and Kim Jong-un.

ACA estimated number of warheads: 30

Russia

Russia is the worlds dominant nuclear superpower if judged purely on their arsenal and could form a pact aimed at holding off US influence around the globe.

There are murmurings in Russia that a deal between Moscow and Beijing could lead to both being able to make serious power play moves out from the USs showdown.

Alex Abratov, head of the Centre for International Security at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations in Moscow said if the US expands its arsenal closer to both China and Russia, that a pact could form between them.

He told the Nikkei Asian Review: If the Americans will commit the stupidity of deploying missiles in East Asia in a way that is threatening to both Russia and China, then our relationship with China will effectively cross a certain line and become a military alliance.

There are even hints that Russian President Vladimir Putin is already adding the biggest beast yet to his nuclear arsenal with hypersonic "Satan-2" officially called RS-28 Sarmat.

ACA estimated number of warheads: 6,490

India

India has held nuclear weapons for decades in a bid to keep its rivals Pakistan at bay as they jostle for power in the region each having claims on the other's lands.

Fortunately, tensions have not spilled over into full-blown conflict for decades with the last full-blown armed war between Pakistan and India ending several decades ago.

But, Hindu nationalist President Narendra Modi has stoked the ire of its rival Pakistan when his government stripped Muslim-majority Kashmir county of its autonomy.

Pakistan was enraged by the move and have started to shoot down Indian drones as tensions flare up along the border.

Shelling also happened along the Pakistan-Indian border, which resulted in at least three people being killed.

This comes after border tensions blighted Kashmir last year, with suicide bombings and armed skirmishes taking place between the two countries.

ACA estimated warheads: 140

Pakistan

Starting following the Bangladesh Liberation War, Pakistans leaders felt outmaneuvered and isolated from the larger powers.

In a fresh move to take control of the situation and avoid being plunged into an unwanted war, Pakistan gave the green light to develop its nuclear weapons and become the first Muslim power in the world to have weapons of mass destruction.

That goal was achieved in the 80s when the country carried out its first successful test.

It is now being held as a last resort should its rivals attempt to carry out a large-scale attack inside its borders.

ACA estimated number of warheads: 160

UK

The UK has held nuclear weapons since the 1950s but has never used them outside test conditions.

Despite that, then-Prime Minister Theresa May said in 2016 that she would give the go-ahead to authorise a nuclear strike if the UK was under threat.

Her comments sparked outrage from opposition MPs over her plans to issue a first strike.

ACA estimated number of warheads: 200

France

Not to be outdone by the Brits, France has more warheads than the UK and is the third-largest nuclear power in the world.

French law demands like the UK that at least one of its four nuclear submarines be on patrol in the Atlantic at any given time.

Since 2006, France has warned it would use nuclear weapons against a state that attacked France using terrorism.

It has also not signed up to the UN treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons.

ACA estimated number of warheads: 300

Israel

The curveball on the list, as Israel has never publicly announced it has nuclear weapons although it is accepted by the international community that they do.

Its weapons were possibly built as a means to preserve the country following a handful of successful defensive wars against its neighbours that preserved the Jewish nation.

The first exposure of Israels nuclear programme happened in 1986, following revelations from Mordechai Vanunu - a former technician formerly employed at the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center.

He was soon kidnapped by Mossad and brought back to Israel where he was sentenced to 18 years behind bars for treason and espionage.

ACA estimated number of warheads: 90

Trade Shows: Best of Kingpins24 and Transformers ED – Sportswear International

For two days we tuned in, listened carefully and selected some of the best quotes from Kingpins24 and Transformers ED. Here they are:

KINGPINS24Menno Van Meurs, co-founder, Tenue de Nimes, Amsterdam:Our business needed a reset and difficult roads sometimes lead to beautiful destinations. I know that the situation is difficult but it also brought new energy.

The Internet brought us lots of education. Consumers are better informed to me and that is all very positive. I do believe we should do a better job as retailers and manufacturers to inform the consumer.

After every crisis people tend to go on quality again and products they trust. In quarantine we learned that we only need a handful of productsa pair of jeans, a few T-shirts and a coat. I strongly hope people will start to invest in clothes they need and not buy mass.

Piero Turk, designer:Denim mills should create denim that can be very flexible. It is a challenge to have one denim that can used to be for a tailored blazer, a dress, an overall and a five-pocket jean with normal or extreme washes. Instead of using 30 different denims, brands can use 10.

My advice to the post-Covid industry is to take responsibility, transparency as a must, which finally means being responsible for the planet and honest with the consumers.

Alberto De Conti, Rudolf Group:Responsible apparel brands and retailers have to share knowledge with their audience because pushing consumers to have a different caring attitude towards denim is of paramount importance. The environmental impact of domestic washing is being poorly considered although it contributes to 20-25% of water consumption and to 35-40% of climate change.

Andrew Olah:My feeling of this situation is devastating. The supply chain is like after a bombing and you dont know what is left in the supply chain like being bombed so we dont know what was left. Letters of credit opened, companies that cannot pay, have no cash and we dont know how long this will last. Some countries are not even given assistance like in Bangladesh and Vietnam. I call this WW3, and these people have been attacked the most.

Nicolas Prophte, PVH:My challenge today is focusing on postconsumer products which are asking for always more transparent practice. The challenge we have in the industry now is the alignment, probably because of too many certifications and guidelines. We have to align ourself in our industry about what is sustainable according a holistic vision. Its not one parameter you take out of the context. We should scan all of our process - from the cotton seed to the consumers behaviour.

"The message outside at the consumer level is also so confusing as each brand has a different way to communicate sometimes consfusing or based upon greenwashing - and not always guided by the same expertise in denim. For this some brands often adopt a message too fast without checking the real topics behind it. Thats why the message is very difficult to understand and why probably the consumer is lost.

Asad Soorty, SoortyAfter the pandemic consumers will become price-conscious consumers, but will also look after quality, though maybe if they will discover a vaccine people forget that it ever happened and go back to fast fashion.

Sedef Uncu Aki, Orta:My hope for the future is denim because it is a cultural and iconic item and touches everybody.

When people say that the world after Corona wont be the same I ask myself: Was the world normal before?

My hope for this pandemic is that we will have a great global reset. And that this will force the global fashion industry to rethink. We had some crises but it now affects both supply chain and consumers. We as an industry must come together and work together.

Stefano Aldighieri, Another Design Studio:We cannot go back to business as usual. For a while I had already seen many people wearing a mask in Japan, China and Korea. Everyone will be wearing one from now on. Plus many will have to close down. The whole business will have to work with always smaller quantities, short-term commitments and probably closer to home.

Kingpins Transformers Ed

Michael Kininmonth, Lenzing:Producing viscose requires many different chemicals and a long process of about 24 hours from pulp to fiber. Producing Lyocell (Tencel) requires one chemical and takes three hours only form pulp to fiber.

Jacob Krzysko, Dystar:BASFs Dystar is a pre-reduced liquid indigo dye that is less polluting, requires only water and its safer for workers. It is an alternative to powder indigo which is much more polluting and requires many chemical agents. Between 2014 and 2018 many companies have switched to pre-reduced indigo. Unfortunately only Chinese denim manufacturers, which hold the biggest share of worldwide denim manufacturing, continue to use it probably because it is mostly made in China, cheaper and widely available.

Alberto Candiani, Candiani Denim:Before COVID-19 our company produced 22 million meters per year, the equivalent of a production of about 16 million pairs of jeans. Competitors that sell apparently similar fabrics offer them at half of our price. This is because of the global industry and volumes. The worldwide jeans total production is 140 billion units, the double of 2008.

"There is a yearly overproduction of about 250 million garments that goes to landfill or burnt. Even more scary is that 30 more vertically integrated denim mills appeared in the market in the last ten years. So we will produce even more and expect the denim capacity will go over three billion meters in the next five to 10 years. Unfortunately, the old capitalistic assumption that the world will consume always more denim is wrong. This is changing and mills should produce a different type of denim, not the old school commodity that consumes so much chemicals and causes a pretty huge damage for the planet. This old way of thinking doesnt make sense anymore.

Tony Tonnaer, founder, Kings Of Indigo:Eighty percent of a products environmental footprint is decided in the design stage. When you design a product make sure you define all of its pillars. Today 60% more clothing is being produced compared to the year 2000. We wear our clothes for an average 2.2 years.

Our vision for the future of fashion is based upon these aspects: The industry finally woke up, its time to develop a benchmark. Stimulate big players to really join the change and not greenwash. Find an alternative for cotton and focus on recycling and upcycling. Think circular and cradle-to-cradle. Wash and dye without water and chemicals like PP and bleach. Sell more quality to last longer. Less seasonals; more classics. Less waste, less sale.

Sanjeev Bahl, Saitex:In 2001 my company followed a very simple model business: We made a five-pocket jeans from one factory and one fabric mill in China and then after selling to the US, we operated in many countries. What I could see around we belonged in a system we could not recognize hunger, poverty and inadequate sanitation. Then in 2010 we moved to Vietnam where I built a new theory of change and a new system. It was an experiment. We put 1% of our revenues in poverty elevation programs. I consider Saitex to be an empathetic organization. We recycle 98% of the water we use, dry our jeans hanging them inside our company, produce our solar energy and reached break-even in six years. We also host farms and grow food for fighting hunger.

Stefano Aldighieri, Another Design Studio:We cannot go back to business as usual. Everyone will be wearing [a mask] from now on. Plus many will have to close down. The whole business will have to work with always smaller quantities, short-term commitments and probably closer to home.

‘We’ll be out in WW3 if we have to’ – bus drivers vow to plough on – Coventry Telegraph

Chatting in front of their squeaky-clean double-deckers at a deserted bus stand, two bus drivers are waiting for passengers who never arrive.

Even though the doors are open and the services are running like clockwork, theres barely a passer-by at the interchange in Warwick. Both drivers, however, spoke of their continued love for the job despite the Covid-19 pandemic and Government lockdown bringing the country to a near-halt.

They are currently driving spotless double-deckers for Stagecoach Midlands, which is operating an enhanced Sunday service in response to the restrictions and social distancing measures.

In normal times, Matt would serve a total of around 150 passengers on his bus in the course of a day on the roads in Coventry and Warwickshire. At present, the total number is around 20.

We still enjoy driving, despite the fact its very, very quiet, he said.

Were constantly running early and even the rush hour is dead.

Ive never driven a bus in conditions as quiet as they are now, but I still love it. I still have that passion for my job, whether its busy or whether its quiet.

Bus drivers have a hardy reputation for keeping going through sleet, snow and ice and its said that not even the Luftwaffe managed to stop Londons services during World War Two. Its something the key workers are aware of as they ease along deserted roads in Coventry and Warwickshire.

They spoke on Thursday, the day before the Government announced it will cover the losses of bus companies in England for the next three months so they can stay on the road. A new 167million fund is intended to ensure that key workers in the NHS, who will be able to hop on and off for free, and other public services can get to work and people can make essential journeys, such as to pick up food.

Matt, who became a bus driver after passing his driving test as a teenager, spoke as he stood beside his empty double-decker at the collection of stands.

Bus drivers have been running services through rain, sun, sleet, snow and war, he said.

Well be out in World War Three if we have to. We like to keep the service going, especially to help elderly and vulnerable people to get out, and we feel more valued now were known as key workers.

Well keep going as long as there isnt a complete lockdown.

Despite wanting to help less mobile members of the community, the drivers have noticed not all trips appear to fall into the definition of essential travel as laid down by the Government.

Matts colleague Rachel said: We do see people going out for a bit of a jolly, getting on for a couple of stops before getting off again. I think the stay-at-home message needs to be pushed a bit harder.

But there are still people who genuinely need us and its nice to feel valued after a days work.

The drivers have been given hand gel and gloves by Stagecoach, though Matt was choosing to wear a sturdier pair he had brought from home.

Rachel said: I love my job. You hear drivers complaining or saying they end up talking to themselves when theres nobody to make conversation with, but I still enjoy driving.

"We are two drivers who love our jobs, there are others who don't. It can be lonely and dispiriting when theres nobody on your bus but its not going to stay that way forever. People will eventually be allowed back out, and they will be allowed back onto the buses.

"Its not the end of the world.

Stagecoach has told customers that it is running revised services based on the latest Government guidelines. Passengers have been asked to practise social distancing by sitting alone where possible, using contactless payments and taking newspapers home.

*Matt and Rachel were speaking under assumed names as they had not been given permission by Stagecoach to give this interview

Unusual Comparisons Isnt The Fight Against Coronavirus Exactly Like The WW3 We Dreaded? – ED Times

Unusual Comparisons: An ED Original content style, where we take 2 very opposite and different items and show you, exactly how similar they might be.

In the beginning of 2020, rumours of WW3 surfaced with the President of the USA, Trump air-strike killing the Iranian General. Somehow the events took a different turn and we are in the middle of a pandemic. However, if we look closely, the fight against coronavirus seems to be the modern WW3, different from WW1 or WW2 but quite similar in its effects on humanity, society and economy.

War claims millions of lives, displaces families and leaves a void with every life lost. The death toll of WW2 was 85 million in a span of six years. We are just a few months into this pandemic and the death count has already surpassed 20k. Similar mass destruction would have been observed if WW3 had commenced but owing to the number of deaths we are already in a war.

Particular groups or states are put under Curfew during war which would likely be the scenario had WW3 erupted. Looking at the current scenario, it is worse than any war could have been. Australia has imposed a 6 months long lock down to escape the atrocities of coronavirus. Many other countries have also adopted the same measures but for fewer months.

Day to day activities would be disrupted during war as people cannot continue to work or keep their businesses open, causing damages to the economy. Amidst the pandemic, complete lockdown has been issued having a negative impact on the economy. IMF says we are already in recession due to Covid-19.

Due to conflict during WW3, education would have suffered as an economic crisis arises and schools would be shut. Deaths and fear has had the same effect on education today. Schools are unable to operate and most of the exams have been cancelled or postponed affecting a large population. Poor people cannot afford to keep their kids in school due to lack of earning sources as everything is shut down.

During war, soldiers play an important role and fight for their country giving up their lives in the process. Amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, doctors have taken over the role of the army, fighting against the virus day and night, not caring about their own lives.

In many ways, WW3 would have been quite similar to the crisis we are in right now. The only difference is, during WW3 countries would be turned against each other whereas now every country stands united against a common enemy, COVID-19.

Lets pray we win this war and claim victory over the evil that has taken over our earth.
