Trip of Giants to Nelson

Today we drove to Nelson taking the scenic ocean route through Kaikoura and Blenheim. We saw loads of seals basking on the rocks south of Kaikoura. The trip was uneventful arriving in Nelson after 6 hours and checking into the fabulous Grand Mercure Monaco wonderful english themed apartments designed by my uncle. We ate a great meal at the Honest Lawyer across the road with Alan Margaret her s

Tuesday July 13 2010

Today we were up at 5 and at the river boat ramp by 615. The upper part of the river looked a bit foggy but it cleared out quickly. I was captain again but today didnrsquot go as smoothly. The tide was out realy low the lowest of the year possibly. That being said I accidently scraped a few layers of paint off the boat getting it into the water. Then navigating down the river nearly ga

Day 48 Oh Santorini

June 16 2010.Santorini's appeal thankfully isn't diminished by that awful KCRichard movie and the fact that you can't have the island all to yourself. Simply put Santorini is still breathtaking despite its appearance in countless postcards and glossy editorials as well as the massive influx of tourism. The Cyclades island provides an otherworldy spectacle as cobaltblue waters come facetof

Gayutthaya

After an epic journey involving 3 hours on a mini bus 2.5 hours on a decent local bus no air con a very hurried change of bus to a dodge local bus and a further 2 hours we finally made it to Ayutthaya which we have since dubbed Gayutthaya simply because all the men we met were very obviously gay It was hilarious from the locals in the bar who were checking out the young western backpackers t

Puenting Biking White Water Rafting Hiking

We have been absolutely nonstop since the last time that we posted on here. After we left Vilcabamba we took an extremely uncomfortable overnight bus to Baos. We were both cold on the bus and didn't get any sleep so we got to Baos feeling less than spectacular. We heard that there were places to rent mountain bikes here so we found a place and rented some decent mountain bikes for the day.

Colorado to Santa Fe

Spent the night in the Tourist Information parking lot last night. Quiet. Don't know if it was legal but there was no one to ask and no one bothered us. Toured Downtown Santa Fe for about thee hours and then headed to Albuquerque. Santa Fe is really nice. If I were rich or if I had not put a stop to buying jewelrey I would be in big trouble. The Georgia O'Keefe Museum was great. She was a

Whale watching sadly not Josie

Very early start today followed by a drive to the boat hire centre. The group was split into two groups one in a large fast boat and one in a smaller faster boat but was travelling rather slow due to the large waves. Once again the captains competed to get their boats to jump the highest over the waves not pleasant. most people had their heads over the edge of the boat or between their knees b

legless llamas can travel too.

Samantha (Sam) Lee writes about her thoughts and travel experiences on legless llamas can travel too. Looking at the photo on her site – that’s an iffy statement. (Though, it may be true…) Regardless, this native of Singapore has much to say – all enjoyable.

off-track backpacking

post thumbnail

In 2005, while backpacking through Europe, Tanya and Nara met. In the “blink of a cosmic eye”, they became instant friends and now both contribute to off-track backpacking. Their site is a journal of their travels, both together and separately. The entries and two distinctively different writing styles definitely make this blog worthwhile.

Greyhound day 2

We boarded our new buses at 1am and headed north to Idaho arriving in Boise about 730. Luckily while in the terminal I found a normal person who was just as weirded out as I was and we had decided to sit together. He was a 19 yr old guy moving from the Jersey Shore to Portland. It was easy to tell he came from a good family and didn't have any major social problems. We didn't talk much durin
