Christchurch

Friday 28th OctoberFriday morning involved a short drive down the East Coast from Kaikoura to Christchurch. Unfortunately it was a rather painful experience as Han had the most almighty hangover. Thursday night was spent at The Whaler pub in Kaikoura where we thought we'd try our luck in yet another quiz. After round 1 we had 100 percent correct but the topic for round 2 was horses so we

To the South

So on Tuesday we left Tongariro Nation Park on Trouble's bus all the drivers have Stray names had a loooong drive down to Wellington only stopping for food and loo stops. It was still mid afternoon by the time we checked into our hostel Base Wellington the worst we've stayed in so far but myself Debby decided to join Cora Sandra Justin in visiting the botanical gardens. After a slig

Camp Mendocino

For our second to last week of training the entire Blue Unit went up to a summer camp near the Redwood Forrests run by the Boys and Girls Club for team building and practice for projects. It was very much like the camp in New York where I work except the trees were ten times taller It was FREEZING I'm sure those of you reading this from the east coast don't have much sympathy for me out here

Switzerland Day 3 Jungfraujoch

Woke up super early and we went to Jungfraujoch The Top of Europe. So cold as you can imagine. Travelled there on a cog wheel train through the Alps. At the top we were higher than the clouds After the Jungfrau we went to Zurich for the night. Didnt like being in a big city again with a lot of traffic also our hotel was not the best. First one that we havent loved. Had a very early night

The Red Star Cafe

Another trip downtown to pick up another batch of altered bottoms...I bought another blanket because it's getting colder and let's face it we spent the last four years in Florida...enough said am I right We stopped in at a Korean restuant and they were kind enough to make some vegetarian kimbob and pan fried tofu with no MSG. Both were very good. I'd go back there anytime to get out of the c

CCTV Park

We went on a class trip to the CCTV Park on the outskirts of Weihai. Since I've been to most of the theme parks in Orlando this park seems well to put it nicely run down but the kids had a blast and that's what counts. So if you are going with the kids by all means spend the 30 yuan it costs to get in.I was however a little confused on the theme. They had fairy tale statues SouthwestAme

Tongariro National Park

So Saturday we were all set to attempt the Tongariro Crossing reputedly the best 1 day tramp in New Zealand... We left Taupo at 6am arriving at National Park Village imaginitive name before 8 in order to sign in for the guided walk get kitted out. Seagull had told us walking shoes weren't good enough but our guides seem to disagree pronounced all our footwear suitable for the tramp. So aft

Valpariso and Via

Valparaiso y Via del MarHolaHappy and healthy and Valparaiso continues to treat me well. Befriended a bunch of people in the hostel once i stopped going to sleep while it was still light. There was a Belgian couple a couple of French girls a German or two a Scottish guy a Swiss guy a slightly unhinged Northern English guy and a couple of younger English guys. Pretty solid mix i thought.

Escape from Cube Land

post thumbnail

Steve Skabrat admits he’s a “meat & potatoes” kind of guy. He’s also one who is ready to give up the “meat & potatoes” cube life for something more exciting. Hmmm… Could be travel… Well, only if he can find tasty food, figure out directions and how to leave the very large iguana statue to fend for itself.

Wandering around Delhi

Wanna know what the main tourist attraction in Delhi is Me. Yes it has become apparent that Indians are just as interested in me as I am in them if not more. Even before reaching my destination the Red Fort I already had two people asking to have their pictures taken with me. But it was only when I arrived there that I realised the extent of their curiosity. The Red Fort is a majestic complex b

Crazy day

It's ironic that the most adventurous day so far has to be the one when I take a tourist bus. I don't normally go for these kind of things but because Delhi's attractions are so far away from each other and it is so hard to get around the city I reluctantly bought an hopon hopoff bus tour for the day. So what could possibly go wrong A lot of things as it turns out. At my second stop my slipper

I love Ella

Ella Ella Ella What a beautiful place. High in the hills amazing views a small friendly little town perfect weather and Samrsquos suggestion to upgrade to a better hotel was such good advice. Hockey Night in Tasmania

Yea yea I know I haven't done the greatest job keeping you all up to date with the happenings down under but I only just got the internet and that's a decent enough excuse I think. So lets do the news first. Nina and I now have a two bedroom house in a suburb of Hobart called Sandy Bay. Very niceI also mentioned in my last blog that I was thinking about getting a cellphone and usually I back

Tissamaharama or Tissa for short.

On the way to Tissa we visited an ancient site of a Buddhist temple from the Mahayana tradition the one that I am more familiar with and I got a kick our of seeing carvings whorsquos names I knew. Theravada is the tradition here in Sri Lanka and although the philosophies are not that different the religious practices are.Tissamaharama is a lively little town and a lot bigger than Ella. Itrsqu

Sri Lankan Safari.

I was up at 5.30.a.m. and ready to leave by 6 on my safari into Yala National Park. Sam and I jumped into the ancient looking jeep and we headed off through the hundreds of early morning dogs taking their stroll through the street. They are surprisingly healthy looking and mostly a smooth golden colour. After 15 minutes of pretty rough roads we got to the entrance of the park got our tickets and t

Denver

Howdy.Lots to update about Last time I wrote Korina and I were still in St. Louis gearing up for our longest drive of the trip so far. We were definitely expecting the worst 14 hours is a long time to be in the car but it wasn't bad at all Korina and I alternated which helped a lot. The drive was so straight compared to the drive from DC to Maryland...we basically kept the car in cruise con

In the Red
