Sport travel packages galore to Brazil as football World Cup nears kickoff

New Delhi, May 26:

With soccer fans from across the globe expected to descend on Brazil for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Indian corporates and high-net worth individuals are also evincing interest in the event.

Travel firms anticipate that about 1,500-2,000 fans are likely to travel to Brazil from India through the month-long FIFA World Cup that starts from June 12 and ends on July 13.

Mayank Khandwala, Co-Founder, Cutting Edge Events, said, There is a very good response for FIFA packages. Corporates as well as HNIs are showing a lot of interest. While small groups have booked to travel for the opening ceremony, more groups are expected to travel during the second half of the tournament. Cutting Edge Events is the authorised sales agent of Match Hospitality in India for the sale of the official hospitality packages for FIFA 2014.

Typically, corporates are the big buyers of sports tourism packages in India, who usually use these to reward employees, clients, customers or dealers. Considering the price tag, where packages start from 4 lakh for a person depending on match and location, FIFA too is largely expected to get more takers from the corporate world. With summer vacations on, families may also pick up these packages.

Karan Anand, Head, Relationships, Cox & Kings said, This is a very niche product. It is driven more by the incentive market, wherein corporates buy these packages as an incentive to their best clients. We also have a few high-net worth individuals who have shown a keen interest. Cox & Kings is the official hospitality partner to sell packages for FIFA World Cup 2014.

The match hospitality package includes category-1 hospitality tickets for the Match Pavilion, Match Club and Match Premier and access to food and beverages. These firms are coupling the match hospitality packages with customised packages that include air tickets, hotel stay and sightseeing. Venue series packages are available for Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Cuiaba, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Sao Paulo.

However, travel experts added that unlike most other international tourist boards, Brazil has not been aggressively marketing itself in India, though FIFA has got people interested in Brazil as a tourist destination, added Khandwala.

Overall, sporting vacations have gained popularity in India in the past five to six years and have been growing at 25-30 per cent year-on-year. It is expected to grow at 10-15 per cent in the next few years, believe experts.

Registration opens for 23rd annual world youth and student travel conference in Dublin – As research reveals 20 …

The World Youth Student and Educational (WYSE) Travel Confederation has opened up registration for what it anticipates will be the youth travel industry's biggest event to date.

From 23 26 September more than 800 delegates from over 450 businesses will gather in Ireland to attend the leading global youth travel event which will be held at the Convention Centre Dublin.

Endorsed by the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and UNESCO, travel professionals will convene from across 120 countries for the four-day itinerary of networking events, seminars and workshops which is now in its 23rd year.

WYSE Travel Confederation's Director General David Chapman said: "Our research reveals that by 2015 the number of young travellers will exceed that of business travellers in terms of both international arrivals and overall revenue. What's more, this lucrative market is now estimated at being worth nearly US$200 billion every year with young people accounting for one in five international tourists and the market predicted to expand by 59% over the coming decade.

"As the only global event dedicated to youth travel's development, WYSTC's success lies in its ability to gather an entire industry under one roof. We hope 2014 will be the year that more businesses wake up to the value of this fast-growing sector and look forward to extending a warm Irish welcome this September to those keen to discover how best to tap into one of travel's most dynamic markets."

In addition to the seminars, think tanks and high-profile speakers that will be announced over the coming months, key highlights organised during the show for visiting delegates include:

According to the report, Connected World: Hyperconnected Travel and Transportation in Action

The World Economic Forum's Connected World: Hyperconnected Travel and Transportation in Action report describes four solutions that can change travel, transport and trade by 2025.

The report describes the benefits of these solutions and how to build the public-private governance models for implementing them Over 50 leading companies from the travel, transportation and ICT industries contributed to the findings Download the report here A new report released at the Annual Summit of the International Transport Forum today by the World Economic Forum, in collaboration with The Boston Consulting Group, shows how travel and transport will be transformed by 2025.

According to the report, Connected World: Hyperconnected Travel and Transportation in Action, the lack of cross-industry cooperation, conflicting policies and missing standards, and the inherent risks of hyperconnectivity are the main barriers for seamless travel and transport. These barriers, notes the report, can be overcome through four solutions based largely on existing technology: a game-changer for using intermodal travel; a future traffic management system for megacities; a new answer for visa, airport security and border control processes; and logistics optimization.

The solutions will allow us to revolutionize travel and transport, said John Moavenzadeh, Senior Director of Mobility Industries at the World Economic Forum. The tremendous benefits they can provide to the public and private sectors are clear. What is needed to realize those benefits is for the relevant stakeholders to come around the table to work together on bringing them to life.

Jos Viegas, Secretary-General of the International Transport Forum at the OECD, added: The digitalization of everything is changing transport in ways we are only beginning to fathom. But transport should go beyond adaptation, it should leverage innovations produced in engineering and organizational sciences. If it combines them into innovative, effective patterns, it can once more change the way the world is functioning.

For example, the Integrated Proactive Intermodal Travel Assistant (IPITA) enables travellers to use one ticket per journey, regardless of the mode of transport, and provides real-time advice on congestion and route-change options. Not only does it improve transparency on travel options, but it also allows travellers to cut time spent on travel planning and reduces costs of rescheduling through delays.

In the years ahead, solutions like IPITA, with real-time updates, customized recommendations and end-to-end ticketing will become game-changers for travellers. There's a great opportunity for the private sector and public agencies to work together to make this a widespread reality, said Margo Georgiadis, President, Americas Operations, at Google.

The Condition-based Megacity Traffic Management System (COMET) integrates and processes information from vehicles, travel infrastructure, individuals and the environment in real time to manage traffic through analytics, dynamic signalling and smart parking. It reduces congestion, emissions and accidents with significant improvement for health and safety. The total net benefits of the system can range from $2 billion to $10 billion per city.

Traffic management is a growing challenge for megacities around the world, said Niklas Gustavsson, Executive Vice-President of Public Affairs of Volvo. A system like COMET could generate significant benefits for them. Using real-time data collection and analytics combined with smart parking and dynamic steering would reduce congestion, greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption.

Another solution includes Automated Check-in, Security, Border Control and SMART visas (ACIS),which harnesses technology such as biometric identification, real-time risk classification of passengers, improved full body and luggage scanners, and electronic visa procedures to improve efficiency and security. The aim is to provide a smoother travel experience for international travellers and can increase travel volumes and tourism receipts.
