Stem cell therapy in Philippines’ 5-star hotels a scam, says group

Manila (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN) - This stem cell therapy could be hazardous to your health.

The Philippine Medical Association (PMA) on Sunday warned Filipinos against availing themselves of the so-called "xenogenic" stem cell therapy from foreign doctors who fly into the country and perform the procedure in five-star hotels in Metro Manila.

The doctors' organisation also announced that it had already tapped the help of the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police to look into the scam, which it said tainted the legitimate practice of stem cell or regenerative medicine in the country.

Dr. Leo Olarte, PMA president and spokesperson of the Philippine Society for Stem Cell Medicine (PSSCM), disclosed that the two medical groups had received complaints from patients and their relatives who had undergone such stem cell procedures allegedly performed in the country by German doctors.

Based on the complaints, Olarte said the patients were asked to check in at a five-star hotel in the capital, where they were injected with animal-based stem cells at around 1 million pesos (US$22,800) per shot.

"These foreigners are not even licensed to practice medicine in the country and are in violation of the Medical Act of 1959," Olarte stressed. "We are then asking government regulators and enforcers, especially the NBI and the PNP, to investigate these criminal acts."

He warned Filipino doctors to stop collaborating with unscrupulous foreign counterparts or the organisation would file criminal cases against them.

"If you will continue doing this, we will file criminal cases against you," said Olarte, an orthopedic surgeon and practising lawyer.

The doctor also stressed that the autologous adult stem cell treatmentderived from the patient's own blood, bone marrow or fatwas the only approved stem cell therapy by the Department of Health (DOH) because it had already been proven as the safest procedure available worldwide.

He discouraged Filipinos from considering xenogenic stem cell sources or those derived from animals and plants, as well as allogeneic sources or from other human beings, due to the many instances of deadly complications from these procedures.

Wellington Chen, M.D. of Advanced Rejuvenation Introduces Stem Cell Therapy For OsteoArthritis & COPD in Sarasota …

Sarasota, Florida (PRWEB) June 18, 2013

After almost 20 years of performing regenerative treatments in the field of non surgical orthopedics, Wellington Chen, M.D., will begin conducting clinical trials for many degenerative diseases using adipose-derived stem cell therapy in Sarasota, Florida. The independent review board of the International cell medicine society is responsible for overseeing these trials.

Advanced Rejuvenation will treat patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and osteoarthritis following the IRB-approved protocols. Advanced Rejuvenation will be using adult autologous stem cells, harvested from the patients own adipose (fat) tissue or bone marrow if fat is not available. Because patients are receiving their own cells, there is no risk of rejection. As of 2007, over 9,000 studies have shown the safety using these cell lines.

Autologous stem cell therapy are your bodies repair men. They are circulated throughout your body and as soon as there is a need for them, chemical messages trigger them to migrate to the area and do their magic. They are both immune modulating and also regenerative which makes them a great therapeutic agent for osteoarthritis and COPD. Numerous studies have shown them to have the capacity to grow new cartilage, muscle, ligaments, glands and even organs. We believe stem cell treatments will become the future of care for most orthopedic problems avoiding the need for surgery. With COPD, when stem cells are run into the blood stream through an IV they will mostly pass through the lungs. We are excited to be apart of these research studies.

Advanced Rejuvenation trained under scientist Kristin Comella, CEO of Stemlogix. She was recently named in the Wall Street Journal as one of the 50 most influential people on stem cell research. Advanced Rejuvenation will implement Stemlogixs patented extraction process, allowing for an exceptionally high yield and viability of stem cells from fat.

During the in-office and same day procedure, a mini liposuction is performed. A half of a cup of fat in harvested from around the abdominal region which produces approximately 8 million stem cells. The stem cells are isolated put back into the patients joints or with COPD via an IV infusion. Local anesthesia is all that is needed and pain medication can be prescribed but is rarely necessary.

Advanced Rejuvenation has treated various orthopedic conditions for 4 years using fat transfer and now offers these treatments to patients ranging from NFL players to retired golfers. Paralyzed Dog Receives Stem Cell Therapy

HIALEAH (CBSMiami) A team of Hialeah veterinarians performed a groundbreaking medical procedure on a dog to help him walk again.

Brando, a 9-year-old German shepherd, received an innovative two-part stem cell therapy at Paradise Animal Clinic in Hialeah on Wednesday. Its the first time this type of therapy has been performed in Florida.

The dog had been paralyzed from the waist down since January and used a doggie wheelchair to get around.

Vets said that he had a skin infection that paralyzed his lungs and then spread to a disc in his back. The infection caused 80 percent of Brandos leg muscles to weaken.

We were totally emotionally destroyed. Kids were crying, wife was upset, I was upset, said owner Manuel Bouza. Obviously the issue was he was so sick whether we put him down because hes paralyzed or whether we deal with it.

Bouza said that they wanted to do whatever they could to help him. One day, he stumbled across a video on YouTube about a dog in Great Britain who had received a stem cell treatment and he became interested.

With no proven options for recovery, they decided to try an experimental stem cell procedure never performed before in Florida.

This is a last ditch effort, said Bouza.

During the procedure, surgeons took fat from Brandos stomach and processed out the stem cells which were then re-injected into his spinal cord. They hope the cells will regenerate tissue and help Brando become more mobile.

The idea is that stem cells are able to go to a given place in the body and repair, said said animal surgeon Jose Gorostiza. Hopefully they will help the cells that are there function again, the new ones.

Sarasota's Dr. Guy DaSilva Introduces Cutting-Edge Stem Cell Therapy For Degenerative Diseases

Sarasota, Florida (PRWEB) June 05, 2013

Guy DaSilva, MD, ABAARM, will begin conducting clinical trials for many degenerative diseases using adipose-derived stem cell therapy at the DaSilva Institute in Sarasota, Florida. The independent review board of the International cell medicine society will oversee the trials.

Following the IRB-approved protocols, Dr. DaSilva will treat patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Type 2 Diabetes, osteoarthritis, critical limb ischemia and erectile dysfunction. Furthermore, Alzheimers disease, dementia and Parkinsons disease are pending approval, and approximately five new protocols are added each month.

While stem cell therapy is most often associated with the controversial use of embryonic stem cells, Dr. DaSilva will be exclusively using adult autologous stem cells, harvested from the patients own adipose (fat) tissue or bone marrow if fat is not available. Because patients are receiving their own cells, there is no risk of rejection, and success rates are far greater compared to the more contentious therapies.

Autologous stem cell therapy works by mimicking the bodys natural healing process, but at a more potent, concentrated level. Stem cells, which are unspecialized cells with the potential to develop into any cell, are stored throughout the body. When disease or injury strikes, the body sends these cells to the area in need, and they begin repairing and replacing damaged tissue. Stem cell function decreases with age, along with ones ability to heal. But with autologous stem cell therapy, the body is once again empowered to heal and reverse disease, and with much greater magnitude.

Dr. DaSilva trained under scientist Kristin Comella, Chief Science Officer of Bioheart, CEO of Stemlogix, Chief Scientific Officer of the Ageless Regenerative Institute, and was recently named one of the 50 most influential people on stem cells. Dr. DaSilva will implement Comellas patented extraction process to precisely isolate and remove stem cells from fat tissue, allowing for an exceptionally high yield and viability.

During the in-office procedure, a mini liposuction is performed on the patient to remove 60 milliliters of fat, which produces approximately 8 million stem cells. The stem cells are isolated and injected back into the patients body at the site of injury or disease. Only local anesthesia is needed, and the patient will go home pain-free.

Over the next month, the patients body will repair and regenerate itself naturally. Dr. DaSilva will continue to treat the patient, with therapies that range from high dose IV nutrition and heavy metal chelation to bio-identical hormones. This helps the body maintain a healthy environment to further promote cellular and mitochondrial healing.

According to Dr. DaSilva, autologous stem cell therapy is very promising. He says, This extraordinary therapy is going to change the face of medicine. For example, it has the capability to completely reverse Type 2 Diabetes with a single dose, allowing patients to avoid amputations, premature death, and a life of food monitoring and injections. The results are truly remarkable, and this is only the beginning.

Boulder Creek family of quadriplegic raises money for stem cell therapy

BOULDER CREEK -- Growing up, Jerry MacCallister wanted to be a naval aviator. Now, he simply wants to scratch his own nose.

The 23-year-old Boulder Creek resident broke his neck in a 2009 dirt biking accident, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. While he regained some mobility in his arms during his initial six-week hospital stay, he lost it all in 2012 when he fell into a coma for eight days. Since then, he's slowly relearned how to breathe and talk, but still can't move his body.

After years of working with countless doctors and physical therapists without seeing significant improvement, MacCallister will undergo stem cell therapy this summer in Thailand. Looking to chip away at $40,000 in travel and medical procedures, his family's hosting a spaghetti feed Saturday at the Boulder Creek Fire Department.

"It's basically his last hope," said his mother, Katie MacCallister.

Her son will receive eight stem cell injections derived from an umbilical cord during the course of 40 days, as well as physical, aquatic and occupational therapy and acupuncture. It typically takes up to nine months to see results.

Beike Biotechnology, a company that specializes in adult stem cell therapy, will oversee the treatment.

"Realistically, nobody expects him to get up and walk away from (this therapy,) but we want him to scratch his own itches and feed himself," said Katie MacCallister, who has researched the treatment since 2009.

When

After the coma, Jerry MacCallister would wake up each morning, forgetting that he was paralyzed -- every day for months he had to relearn that he couldn't move. He spent 10 weeks in the hospital.

"It's every mother's worst nightmare," Katie MacCallister said as she choked back tears. "I wouldn't wish it on my own worst enemy."
