Liberals in our Midst: How the Religious Left Is Changing America’s Future

After a hotly contested election year withonce againa particular focus on the religious right, many Americans are left with a generalized view of organized spirituality as being dogmatic and intolerant of differences. Though such generalities might be based on some specifics, they exclude an entire movement of clergy and religiously-affiliated laypeople who actively campaign for progressive issues such as marriage equality, gender equality and racial tolerance.

In fact, this religious left is effectively changing the way the public views some of the most significant social justice issues facing America today.

Self-identifying Christian and Jewish activists played a large role in legalizing same-sex marriage in four states this year. Jay Michaelson is an openly gay religious scholar, longtime LGBT activist, and author of God vs. Gay? The Religious Case for Equality. Michaelson was part of that movement for marriage equality, working at a grass-roots level to help faith-based communities reconcile their spiritual beliefs with the rights of the LGBT community. As a result, states like Maryland made history by voting to legalize same-sex marriage.

MORE: Father Bob Pierson: Person of Interest

Michaelson tells TakePart that those wins came from faith-based principles that allowed activists to meet people with compassion and understanding. We won because we were able to have conversations one on one with people of faith who are not bigoted or close-minded, but are sincerely struggling with these issues. Really, its a statistical fact that most people are somewhere in the middle. A lot of people of faith were supportive in general, but had deep reservations. We were able to engage with millions of people across the country during this election season, and thats the role we [religiously affiliated groups] should be playing.

Though LGBT rights and deep religious belief might superficially appear to be in conflict, its precisely because of their faith that the so-called religious left can embrace and champion the rights of people who are often maligned or looked upon as being on the fringe.

Pastor Joseph W. Tolton, the leader of Harlems groundbreaking Temple Christ Conscious Church, sees his faith as an instrument of inclusion. The pastor credits President Obama with introducing that concept to the country as a whole.

Whatever spirituality means, it has something to do with being honest and truthful to yourself and others and being available to love and you cant do all those things if youre lying about who you are to yourself and everybody else.

Tolton tells TakePart, When President Obama made his declaration to support marriage equality, for me the most important thing that he said was that his faith informed his decision. The cultural market is presenting a wonderful opportunity for faith to take a new role in driving the principles and the values of inclusion and driving a social justice agenda at the intersection of womens rights, racial justice and LGBT inclusion, which actually play off of each other and work in support of each other. These issues are no longer siloed. I think thats something the left brings to faith-based organizing.

Michaelson says that his earliest beliefs about his Jewish faith made him feel a sense of shame and fear about identifying as gay. Later, he came to understand that his beliefs and his sexuality were actually perfectly aligned. Whatever spirituality means, it has something to do with being honest and truthful to yourself and others and being available to loveand you cant do all those things if youre lying about who you are to yourself and everybody else.

I will be posting more of my spirituality stuff on my other page. http://www.youtube.com/oneloverising I would like to devote this channel to more of the crafty stuff. That being said, I may have some vlog updates and tag videos for y #39;all. I hope you like the scarf. Manny Pacquiao got Destroyed by the illuminati – Video

Manny Pacquiao got Destroyed by the illuminati
The secret socities have been furious at Manny Pacquiao, since he rejected the idea of same-sex couples getting married! One of the main agenda of the Secret society has been; to destroy the Morality of a person by attacking their spirituality beliefs! This is because a Human functions the way his character does, while the character is defined by the inner strength of a person which comes from his Moral and Spiritual side! Just look at Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King or MalcolmX as an example! While the Secret Societies have tried to destroy Christianity in the west, they are now heading for China, Islam, Russia etc in the East! There are many strategies being used against these nations: Militarily, economically, technologically etc! However, the Sports(men/women) that do not fit the secret societies agenda, do not get attacked Militarily, since they are not a Military threat! However, their creditials are put at stakes, since the media get #39;s to work in order to destroy their reputation! In Pacquiao case, he forst got criticised for his stance on Gays, then he got banned from many places and later robbed by the Judges(when he fought Timothy Bradley)! To make things worse as possible for Manny Pacquaio, the Israel Itelligence agency eventually poisoned him! Take note that Manny Pacquiao is not the first Legend Boxer to get poisoned, if you check the video responses(below), you can see the videos of how and why other boxers also got poisoned! Martyr Me (Original Song) – Video

Martyr Me (Original Song)
Hey guys (yes, all five of you) here #39;s a quick little song I worked on over the weekend instead of doing my homework. There #39;s not much to it, but I #39;m thinking of using it as an intro to another song, or I may go back to it eventually and lengthen it, but regardless I like how it sounds now. I may post the lyrics whenever I finalise them, right now I have a rough draft, but it is susceptible to change, but whenever I figure them out I #39;ll be sure to update them. What I can say is that this song, as well as the other songs I #39;ve uploaded will all tie into one story, so that each song is the equivalent to a chapter, although I haven #39;t quite written out the whole story. What I know for sure is there will be a lot of lyrics about death and spirituality, and I may even throw in some romance for the hell of it, but all of this is still in the distant future. I apologise that the drums are a little loud in the mix, specifically the cymbals, and the vocal line is a little low, that #39;s just the result of the less than favourable conversion from GuitarPro to MIDI. Remember if you like what you here leave a like, and subscribe, I #39;ll be uploading many more songs in the future :)From:MikeyRobertoViews:1 0ratingsTime:01:13More inMusic

Honchos learn how Bhagwad Gita can boost business

Thane, Dec 9 (IANS) Corporate leaders from India and other countries spent two days here learning how spirituality and teachings of Bhagwad Gita can help promote industrial fortunes, at a seminar called Artha addressed by spiritual guru Radhanath Swami.

Radhanath Swami said Sunday, the concluding day of the event, that individuals faced many negative events in their lives, but if they were spiritually geared up, the ill-effects themselves were negated.

He cited the example of Indian industrialists Arvind Mafatlal and Hrishikesh Mafatlal, who, through their spiritual involvements, managed to successfully handle business turmoils several times during their lives.

Radhanath Swami also discussed how Alfred Ford, of Ford Motors in the US, treaded the path of spirituality in all dealings, be they employees, business partners, family or friends, with a sense of humility and concern, which went a long way in establishing long-term cordial relations.

"More happiness is derived in giving than receiving, and when one gives to society something, nature replenishes it manifold. Inner fulfillment comes from giving, not taking," Radhanath Swami said.

He explained that every human being had both - a divine nature and a demonic nature - and they behaved depending on the choice they made.

"A real leader is one who serves, and not controls," Radhanath Swami said.

Explaining meditation, he said it need not be done sitting in one place. "It is connecting with God, and can be achieved during normal business dealings by being tenacious to values based on spiritual premises."

Radhanath Swami, author of international best-seller "Journey Home", addressed issues like can businesspersons become modern world role models, what ancient Vedic wisdom can offer to the modern corporate world, how spirituality can be practised in business, what kind of a business model should be planned for the increasingly restless and confused Gen-Next.

Other speakers at the two-day event included Hrishikesh Mafatlal, N.D. Desai of Apar Industries, Sai Sudhakar of Apar Technologies, Singapore, Rashmi Kamdar with business interests in Russia and South America, Naveen Kumar of Nityo Infotech, and Rajesh Talwar of Basil Partners.

Mount Eerie - Wind Speaks
Wind #39;s Poem (2009) A title like Wind #39;s Poem suggests fleeting delicacy, but there #39;s far more to these songs than that. If this double-album sprawl really was a poem, it would be more epic than haiku, combining Phil Elverum #39;s musings on erosion and mortality with sounds that touch on ambient black metal, field recordings, and David Lynch soundtracks. Elverum has been fascinated with these motifs for some time -- "I Want Wind to Blow" and "You #39;ll Be in the Air" are two of the finest songs on the Microphones #39; The Glow, Pt. 2, Mount Eerie was a meditation on death and spirituality, and Black Wooden Ceiling Opening documented his first flirtations with metal -- but Wind #39;s Poem is still some of the most impressive music Elverum has recorded under any of his aliases. The album captures the, well, eerie sounds of wind powering through the air like an emotion, spanning wistful breezes and raging three-day blows. The opening track, "Wind #39;s Dark Poem," is definitely the latter, rushing at listeners with gale-force distortion far bigger and heavier than anything on previous Elverum albums. The tornado whipping around him feels more akin to Jesu, Sunn 0))), or even ambient noise artists like Xela, yet it #39;s just as beautiful in its own intense way as his gentler songs are. It #39;s an extreme way to begin Wind #39;s Poem, especially because Mount Eerie #39;s two prior albums, Lost Wisdom and Dawn, were almost painfully quiet.
