Water Bottle That Refills Itself
This newly invented water bottle refills itself. Imagine a water bottle that refills itself. A man named Deckard Sorensen started a business that has come up with a design for just that, and he hopes it will be on the market by 2014. He got the idea from the Namib Beetle that lives in the desert, and has to get its drinking water from moisture in the air. Sorensen said: "Every morning this beetle climbs to the top of a sand dune, sticks its back to the wind, and drinks 12 percent of its weight in water. We use nanotechnology to mimic this beetle #39;s back so that we too can pull water from the air." His invention uses a fan to blow air over a specially coated surface that promotes condensation as the air passes and collects in the bottle. Another design that was influenced by the Namib Beetle collects the moisture from fog. A graduate student from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology invented a mesh design that turns fog into usable water. Bloomsburg Universitys nanotechnology option offers students an opportunity to gain additional skills in an advancing technological field with a growing need for skilled workers. This academic track seamlessly follows the chemistry bachelor's of science program.
Nanotechnology gives us the ability to see and manipulate matter atom by atom and create materials, devices and systems with new and unique properties, such as creating nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery and producing odor-free shoes, socks and clothing.
Students finish the nanotechnology option with an 18-credit Capstone Semester at Penn State University, after completing prerequisites at Bloomsburg in chemistry.
According to the federal government, nanotechnology is likely to change the way almost everything is designed and made from vaccines to computers to car tires. Nanotechnology products can be found in commonly used items as cell phones, cosmetics and clothing.

The SOCAR scientists and specialists, beginning from 2004, in the laboratories and production fields of the company, on the basis of academician Azad Mirzajanzadeh #39;s ideas, have been implementing activities in the directions of the development of nanotechnologies, experiment and application. According to successful results of the application of nanotechnologies in oil industry since 2005, NANOOIL program, covering 2010-2015, was worked out under the guidance of the SOCAR oilmen-scientists academician Kh.Yusifzadeh and professor E.Shahbazov, assented by the SOCAR president R.Abdullayev. The program is comprised of four parts: NANOPRODUCTION, NANODRILLING, NANOPETROCHEMISTRY, and ECONANOOIL.
