NEWARK, N.J. -- The Chicago Sky had no need for any late-game heroics Sunday. After three consecutive come-from-behind victories, the Sky (6-1) grabbed a lead late in the opening quarter and maintained it the rest of the way in a 73-64 WNBA victory over the New York Liberty at the Prudential Center. The Sky's fifth straight win extended the best start in franchise history. Epiphanny Prince scored 26 points, Tamera Young had 12, and Sylvia Fowles collected her seventh straight double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Chicago improved to 4-0 on the road. Cappie Pondexter paced New York (3-6) with 22 points. Kia Vaughn had 16, and Essence Carson added 10. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak. The Sky trailed 11-8 midway through the opening quarter, but a Prince 3-pointer launched an 11-0 run that put the visitors firmly in command with a 19-14 lead after one quarter. Prince added 11 points in the second quarter to help her team to a 38-27 halftime advantage. The lead never slipped under nine points the rest of the way. The Sky return home Wednesday for a game with the Seattle Storm at Allstate Arena. Chicago travels to Indiana on Saturday. The Liberty plays at the Connecticut Sun on Friday.

Sky-Liberty Preview

In her first three games this month, the Chicago Sky's Epiphanny Prince has produced one of the best strings of scoring performances in WNBA history. She's also been one of the buzzer-beating heroes during a franchise-best start.

Prince will try to set a league mark by scoring 30 or more points in a fourth consecutive game and lead the Sky to a team-record fifth straight victory Sunday against the resurgent New York Liberty.

Prince's run started with 31 points against Washington on June 1, and she had 13 of those during the final 1:44 of a 65-63 victory.

Sylvia Fowles hit a last-second layup to secure that win, but it was Prince who banked in a tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation and scored a career-high 33 points during a 94-92 overtime win over Atlanta the next day.

Prince, averaging a league-best 25.2 points, did it again against Tulsa on Friday when the Sky (5-1) used her buzzer-beating shot to force the extra period and her 32 points to down the Shock 98-91. That fourth straight win matched the franchise's longest streak from May 27-June 5, 2010.

"Sometimes she struggles with not wanting to take over," coach Pokey Chatman told the team's website. "I have to tell her, 'Please, just take over.' Only Epiphanny can stop Epiphanny."

Cynthia Cooper is the only other player in WNBA history with three consecutive 30-point games, doing so for the Houston Comets in 1997.

The Liberty (3-5) will try to end the Sky's run and slow down Prince while matching their longest win streak since a four-game run July 1-13.

Cappie Pondexter scored 25 points as her team held on for the latest of its victories, 76-70 in Washington on Friday.

Pondexter has averaged 25.3 points during New York's three straight wins after failing to top 20 in each of New York's franchise-worst five consecutive losses to open the season. Leilani Mitchell has also made 11 of 18 shots (61.1 percent) from 3-point range.

Liberty couple files suit over false reports of mass graves

A tip from a purported psychic that led to a search for a mass grave at a Liberty County home and a subsequent media frenzy that reached all the way to Australia have prompted a lawsuit by the couple who lived on the property.

Joe Bankson and Gena Charlton have filed a lawsuit against the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, the woman who first called in with a tip, and a number of media outlets that allegedly reported that dozens of bodies, including those of children, had been discovered without confirmation.

A suspicious look

There was no merit to the tip. By the next morning, news reports focused on how local sheriff's deputies had been led on a wild goose chase. But attorney Andrew Sommerman said the damage had already been done.

"They could not go home again," Sommerman said of the couple. "Legally, they could, of course. But if something is said about you, even if it's taken back later, people look at you with suspicion or with a cloud over your head."

Sommerman, who filed the suit Tuesday in state district court in Dallas, said the couple's long-haul trucking business was damaged by the reports linking them to a potential crime.

"The media owes a duty to the public to make sure that what they report is true," Sommerman said. "One of the things that scares me is that information is coming out so quickly. It's all about beating a deadline, being the first to get something out. It's only an excuse to say we don't have time to investigate."

Besides the sheriff's office, defendants include the "Jane Doe" tipster, Houston television station KPRC, CNN, ABC News, the New York Times, the Thompson Reuters news service, and Dallas-based Belo Corp., which owns a number of broadcast outlets.

The suit alleges negligence and defamation on the part of the woman who called with the tip and charges the media defendants with defamation. It accused the sheriff's department of negligence in alerting the news media about the report and in the way it conducted its investigation.

Liberty County Attorney Wesley Hinch was unable to be reached for comment about the lawsuit, which asks for unspecified damage.

Liberty win third straight, 76-70 over Mystics

WASHINGTON (AP) Cappie Pondexter credited one sleepless night on the road with her role in the New York Liberty's turnaround. Early slumbering once again cost the Mystics.

Pondexter scored 25 points, the Liberty took control with a 30-5 first-half run and survived a frantic fourth quarter for their first road victory of the season, 76-70 over the Washington Mystics on Friday night.

Leilani Mitchell hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points for the Liberty, winners of three straight after opening the season 0-5. The latest victory also snapped a five-game losing streak in Washington dating to the 2009 season.

New York shot 60 percent (21 of 35) from the field in the first half, including 5 of 6 from beyond the arc and held a 29 point with just under nine minutes 9 in the second quarter.

Crystal Langhorne led the Mystics (1-5) with 24 points.

Trailing 65-45 late in the third quarter, the Mystics pulled closer when Langhorne fueled a 15-2 run, followed by a spree of 3-point field goals. Matee Ajavon drilled her second from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter with 1:37 remaining as Washington trailed 73-70, but Essence Carson countered with a 3-pointer of her own on New York's next possession.

''We did a lot of great things in the first half, kind of shocked Washington,'' said Pondexter, who shot 9 of 13 from the field. ''They didn't expect us to come out as aggressive as we did. I think they made some adjustments in the second half. We got a little winded, but we played a solid game.''

The Liberty lost their three previous road games this season by an average of 21.3 points, including 91-68 at Indiana on June 2.

''It was embarrassing,'' Pondexter said. ''Myself, the leader of this team, I was angry, probably the worst team has ever seen me. I couldn't sleep. We had a back-to-back so I was pretty much up all night, just trying to figure things out."

Langhorne scored 10 points during the second-half rally. In her first start this season, Michelle Snow finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Liberty-Mystics Preview

The New York Liberty appear to be getting on track after the worst start in franchise history. The Washington Mystics can't make that same claim.

New York goes for a third consecutive win while it looks to end a five-game road skid against the Mystics, who will be trying to avoid their second straight 1-5 start Friday night.

The Liberty were outscored by an average of 17.4 points in dropping their first five games before beating Indiana 87-72 on Sunday and Atlanta 79-74 on Tuesday.

Guard Cappie Pondexter led the way in both victories, scoring 25 points against the Fever and 26 versus the Dream after failing to reach the 20-point mark in any of the first five games.

"Being 0-5, I never experienced that before anywhere in any part of my career," Pondexter said. "It was awful. I knew we had to turn things around."

Pondexter scored nine of the Liberty's 18 points in the fourth quarter Tuesday.

"We had to refocus the last couple of days after we lost five in a row," she said. "It was just a case of me being aggressive. The important thing for us is to focus on what we need to do to win."

Guard Leilani Mitchell has totaled 31 points in the back-to-back wins after scoring a combined 19 during the winless start.

"Of course, we knew we were a better team than 0-5," Mitchell said. "But it's a long season and the league is so good. Any game could go either way. It was very frustrating to lose those five games, but we had to remain positive."

Washington is dealing with its own frustration after another poor start. The Mystics lost their third straight Sunday, 94-86 at Connecticut.

BY TYREL LINKHORN BLADE BUSINESS WRITER

Jeep will stop building the Liberty sport utility vehicle on Aug. 16, a move that will eliminate some jobs at local suppliers that did not get contracts for the incoming model. However, other suppliers stand to add workers when Jeep begins producing the next-generation replacement in 2013.

Dana Holding Corp. and Faurecia Inc. will each cut about 40 jobs that support the Toledo-built Liberty, The Blade has learned.

Chuck Hartlage, a spokesman for Dana, confirmed the Mamuee-based parts supplier will close a small axle assembly plant at 315 Matzinger Rd. Mr. Hartlage said the plant's 37 employees have been notified the plant will be shuttered Aug. 16.

Union officials affirmed that Aug. 16 is Chrysler Group LLC's shut-down date for the Liberty line.

Dana opened the Matzinger Road plant in 2006 specifically to supply the Liberty and the now-defunct Dodge Nitro. But as Chrysler prepares to bring an all-new model to the Toledo Assembly complex, that work no longer will be there.

"Every time a program or a vehicle is updated, you may continue to supply the parts or they may source it elsewhere," Mr. Hartlage said. "We're not going to be supplying the next generation on that specific part. We still have a lot of business on Jeep vehicles."

Bruce Baumhower, president of UAW Local 12, said Chrysler is bringing axle assembly work back in-house.

American Liberty (OTCBB: OREO) Issues Progress Report on Nevada Wells

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire -06/06/12)- American Liberty Petroleum, Corp. (OREO) has recently announced a progress update to their Nevada based wells and has released that they have completed their second sale of crude to Foreland's Eagle Springs Refinery.

In its report on American Liberty Petroleum, Grass Roots Research noted that the U.S. demand for energy is forecast to grow 20% from 2009 to 2035. The main driving force for oil will be ever increasing demand for energy. Grass Roots believes that oil will remain a dominant fuel in the future as growing demand for energy is not likely to be fulfilled by alternative sources. Additionally, geopolitical tensions make oil imports from Middle East erratic. According to Grass Roots, this calls for substantial oil and gas investment domestically. OREO is one U.S. oil company that is looking to explore oil and gas domestically. Grass Roots also notes that OREO's two attractive oil prospects, which are situated in Western Nevada, are estimated to have a total reserve of approximately 4.6 billion barrels. Liberty 79, Dream 74

UpdatedJun 5, 2012 10:22 PM ET

After the New York Liberty lost their first five games of the season, All-Star guard Cappie Pondexter found herself in totally unfamiliar territory.

''Being 0-5, I never experienced that before anywhere in any part of my career,'' Pondexter said. ''It was awful. I knew we had to turn things around.''

Pondexter scored 26 points to lead the Liberty to their second straight win, a 79-74 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday night.

Pondexter took it upon herself to carry the Liberty to the victory, making clutch shots in the fourth quarter. Her driving goal with 8:29 left gave the Liberty the lead for good and her three-point play with 4:36 left pushed the lead to 70-66.

''We had to refocus the last couple of days after we lost five in a row,'' said Pondexter, who had nine points in the final period. ''It was just a case of me being aggressive. The important thing for us is to focus on what we need to do to win.''

Leilani Mitchell added 18 points in the victory.

''Of course, we knew we were a better team than 0-5,'' Mitchell said. ''But it's a long season and the league is so good. Any game could go either way. It was very frustrating to lose those five games, but we had to remain positive.''

Atlanta dropped to 2-4 after losing its second straight contest
