Liberty shoes plans to step on fashion track

New Delhi, Nov 6:

Footwear major Liberty Shoes has set its eyes on fashion. As a part of its strategy to cater to the fashion community, the company has scrapped the forecast model and moved to a replenishment model. This means that company will monitor and replenish its stocks based on day-to-day sales reports.

We want to gear up for an immediate market turnaround. If a certain product is selling fast, we can have it replenished. Unlike the forecast model where there was a possibility of an inventory pile-up, this ensures quick sales and helps us capture trends, Anupam Bansal, Managing Director, Liberty Shoes, said.

The company said it adopted the model as fashion lines were getting shorter. We had hired a consulting group which suggested that we do shorter lines to optimise our operations and cater to the fashion community, he added.

Liberty has 400 stores across India which are a mix of company-owned-company-operated and franchised stores.

We will be adding 100 stores by next March at an estimated investment of Rs 25-50 lakh a store, Bansal added.

Stating that Indians own more than one pair, he said per capita consumption is set to rise. Globally, individuals own about five pairs. In India, our belief is that they own 1.1 pairs. Given the increasing purchasing power, India will soon meet the global pattern in buying, Bansal said.

Liberty, at present, manufactures over 60,000 pairs a day at six manufacturing facilities.

Bansal said the company was also looking at expanding its warehouses regionally. Liberty plans to have four regional warehouses that will help push its products in the retail markets quicker. We are focusing on the Southern market with differentiated products keeping in mind the tastes and preferences.

The brand, established in 1954, caters to style-conscious customers across the globe. Recently, it roped in Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan as its brand ambassador. Liberty footwear are priced between Rs 300 and Rs 5,000.

Liberty Media revenue up as Starz subscribers rise

(Reuters) - Liberty Media Corp reported a 3 percent increase in quarterly revenue, helped by a rise in subscribers at flagship networks Starz and Encore.

Starz has been looking to increase subscriptions and compete with the likes of Time Warner Inc's HBO and AMC Networks Inc's AMC by offering more original programming such as "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and "Boss."

"On programming, Spartacus: War of the Damned, Da Vinci's Demons, Magic City, and The White Queen give us a strong pipeline of exclusive Starz Originals that will kick off early next year," Starz LLC CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement.

John Malone's Liberty Media is trying to gain full control of satellite radio broadcaster Sirius XM Radio Inc, in which it owns a nearly 50 percent stake.

Liberty filed a petition with U.S. regulators to replace the company's board and has argued that Sirius should be more aggressive about pursuing better technology and expanding internationally.

The fracas recently led to Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin saying he will step down in February.

Greg Maffei, President and CEO of Liberty Media, said Tuesday on a call with analysts he hoped to have the role of Sirius chief executive filled in six months or less.

The company has formed a search committee and is considering both internal and external candidates.

Third-quarter revenue rose to $555 million, while operating income was flat at $111 million.

Third-quarter revenue at Starz LLC rose 3 percent to $400 million. Subscription at the Starz network rose by 9 percent, while Encore subscriptions grew 5 percent.

Starz owner Liberty Media posts 3Q profit

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) Liberty Media Corp., one of the companies controlled by cable mogul John Malone, posted third-quarter net income on gains on its investments in other companies.

The results also included subscription growth at the Starz and Encore cable channels, which Liberty Media plans to spin off this year. Starz subscriptions rose 9 percent to 20.8 million. Subscriptions at its Encore channels rose 5 percent to 34.3 million. Revenue from the division rose 3 percent to $400 million.

Liberty Media also owns 49.2 percent of satellite radio broadcaster Sirius XM Radio Inc., and plans to take control of that company.

It also invests in concert company Live Nation Entertainment Inc., bookseller Barnes & Noble Inc. and media companies Time Warner Inc. and Viacom Inc. It owns the Atlanta Braves baseball team.

Englewood, Colo.-based Liberty Media reported overall net income of $1 billion, benefiting from earnings of $1.28 billion from its investments in other companies. Last year, Liberty Media lost $42 million, earning just $53 million from its investments.

Liberty Media's total revenue rose 3 percent to $555 million from $540 million a year ago.

Liberty Interactive Corp., which split off from Liberty Media in September 2011, said Tuesday that its revenue rose 3 percent to $2.2 billion. Its loss widened to $41 million from $19 million. Liberty Interactive owns the QVC shopping channel, some shopping websites and also invests in other companies.

Liberty Media shares rose 17 cents to $112.13 in morning trading while Liberty Interactive shares rose a penny to $20.47.

Thank You, Veterans – Video

Thank You, Veterans
This special tribute to our veterans features a paraphrased version of Abraham Lincoln #39;s Gettysburg Address: "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal... The world ... can never forget what they did here... It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us mdash;that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion mdash;that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain mdash;that this nation... shall have a new birth of freedom mdash;and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Give Me Liberty ~ "Suspense" Radio Drama – 3-29-1955 – Video

Give Me Liberty ~ "Suspense" Radio Drama - 3-29-1955
One of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, was subtitled "radio #39;s outstanding theater of thrills" and focused on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 are extant. Suspense went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Formula plot devices were followed for all but a handful of episodes: the protagonist was usually a normal person suddenly dropped into a threatening or bizarre situation; solutions were "withheld until the last possible second"; and evildoers were usually punished in the end. In its early years, the program made only occasional forays into science fiction and fantasy. Notable exceptions include adaptations of Curt Siodmak #39;s Donovan #39;s Brain and HP Lovecraft #39;s "The Dunwich Horror", but by the late 1950s, such material was regularly featured. en.wikipedia.orgFrom:PdbdsViews:0 0ratingsTime:24:44More inEntertainment
