A case of Obamacare and religious liberty

On Monday, the Supreme Court ordered a lower court to decide on a case involving a clash between religious liberty and Obamacare. Government must tread lightly in defining religion as a way to achieve universal health care and increase access to contraceptives.

On Monday, the Supreme Court signaled it might again reconsider the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare). It ordered a lower court to weigh the laws mandate on employers to support health insurance including coverage of contraceptive services for workers.

Last June, the high court upheld the laws tax on individuals who refuse to buy health insurance. Now it wants a court to consider a complaint from Liberty University of Virginia that the mandate on employers violates religious freedom by requiring employers to have a role in funding health services such as abortion-inducing drugs.

This case is only one of more than 40 similar challenges to the law making their way through the federal courts. Any one of them could result in a Supreme Court ruling next year, potentially upsetting the laws goal of providing universal health care.

While the abortion issue drives most of the suits, the heart of the legal arguments concerns the Obama administrations attempt to define religion and to do it so narrowly as to give that definition authority over almost all employees.

The administration defines a religious employer as an institution focused solely on worship; that aims to inculcate values as its main purpose; that hires primarily persons of the same faith; and that serves primarily persons of the same faith. Opponents of this straitjacket definition rightly counter that even Jesus and his healing activities would not be seen as religious.

In its 5-to-4 ruling last June upholding much of the law, the court warned that the act must still meet other requirements in the Constitution. Four liberal justices even cited the need for the law not to interfere with the free exercise of religion.

And indeed, on Nov. 16 a federal judge sided with a Christian publisher, Tyndale House, granting it a temporary injunction against the Department of Health and Human Services in its enforcement of the mandate to cover abortifacients in the companys health plan.

Liberty Award for Stop and Search App Created on Apps for Good Course at High Trees

LONDON, November 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Aaron Sonson, Satwant Singh Kenth and Gregory Paczkowski have been awarded Liberty's Human Rights "Close to Home" Award for their creation of a Stop and Search App designed to make people aware of their rights.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20121126/579588-a ) (Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20121126/579588-b ) (Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20121126/579588-c )

Receiving their award at the Southbank Centre in London this week, Aaron, Satwant and Gregory were recognised for their hard work in delivering a mobile application that empowers young people by providing them with a full breakdown of their rights in the often contentious issue of police stop and search procedures.

Much has been said and written about policing in this area, so the trio designed and built the app which enables users to upload their experience and understand what their rights are.

They met at High Trees Community Development Trust in Tulse Hill on a CDI Apps for Good course. "We are very humbled, honoured and inspired to receive this reward. It has been a long road in developing the app to this point and a long road lies ahead as we strive to get to the point where the Stop and Search UK app fulfils its true potential," said Aaron on behalf of the group.

"We would like to thank Liberty for giving us this award and also the High Trees Community Development Trust and CDI Apps for Good for supporting us in its development - their help has been instrumental to what we have achieved."

The event was hosted by writer and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig with attendees including Benedict Cumberbatch and Rowan Atkinson, as well as the Attorney General Dominic Grieve QC MP, Gary McKinnon's mother (and 2011 winner) Janis Sharp, and race relations campaigner Doreen Lawrence.

"Liberty was honoured to celebrate the dedication, commitment and achievements of Aaron Sonson, Satwant Singh Kenth and Gregory Paczkowski," said a spokesperson for Liberty.

"Their mobile app provides important public information about individual rights and the potential abuse of police powers."

Liberty Ross fronts Aubin & Wills campaign

Liberty Ross stars in the final advertising campaign for Aubin & Wills.

The English model-and-actress appears alongside former Blur musician Alex James in the quintessentially British outfitters' Christmas 2012 campaign.

Last month, fashion label Jack Wills announced it would be folding its grown-up line Aubin & Wills in the New Year.

To see its final collection out in suitable style, the brand has signed up the stylish duo to front their last ever design collection.

In the campaign video posted on the Aubin & Wills website, Liberty is seen posing seductively in clothing from the range, including a sleeveless black lace dress and on-trend berry coloured top that matches her red-hued make-up.

Set in a grand English country house, the festive campaign sees Alex striking stylish poses while wearing a selection of cosy knits from the line.

Liberty is best known for her role in the recent Snow White and The Huntsman film where she made an impact on screen and off, after getting caught up in her husband Rupert Sanders' affair with actress Kristen Stewart.

The model seems to be back to her confident self as she appears looking comfortable in the grown-up, preppy-style garments the retailer is known for.

Liberty follows in the footsteps of other classic English beauties including model Sophie Dahl by modelling for the line.

The festive video was shot in black and white and colour and highlights include a close up of Liberty in a hooded fur lined parka jacket in monochrome.

North Liberty prepares for centennial

NORTH LIBERTY North Liberty is preparing for a special birthday bash.

The town in northern Johnson County turns 100 next November, but planning for a years worth of activities has begun, and an official logo and slogan, Celebrate the Century, were recently unveiled.

As its approaching its centennial, North Liberty has proved to be a late bloomer.

The area that became North Liberty was settled in the late 1830s and incorporated on Feb. 10, 1913, with about 190 residents.

It remained a very small town for several decades. By 1960, the population had inched up to 334, and then, after a miniboom, increased to 1,055 residents in 1970, according to census data.

The growth really took off the first decade of this century, however, when North Liberty was the second-fastest growing town in Iowa. Its 13,608 residents last year was a nearly 154 percent increase since 2000.

With that came growing pains. This was most evident several years ago in a struggle between residents who felt development was occurring too fast and those who encouraged the population boom.

There were a number of years that a lot of the long-term residents didnt want North Liberty to change, Mayor Tom Salm said. He added, My argument has always been, were not going to have any choice.

Slam was referencing the towns location between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids and the attraction that holds to commuters.

Liberty Mines Acquires Croxall Property and Consolidates Land Package Near Its Redstone Mill

TSX: LBE

TORONTO , Nov. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Liberty Mines Inc. (LBE.TO) ("Liberty" or the "Company") announced today that it has fully exercised its options to acquire all of the Croxall properties in the Shaw Dome nickel area, which is located approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Timmins, Ontario and near the Company's Redstone mill, the only dedicated nickel mill in the region.

"In advance of the expected recovery of nickel prices, we have taken advantage of the opportunity to acquire all of the Croxall properties, and prepare for future exploration and production activities," said Mr. Chris Stewart , President and CEO of Liberty Mines . "Our decision to acquire all of the Croxall properties is consistent with our strategy to consolidate our land package in the area and take full advantage of the only nickel concentrate producing mill in the region."

Mr. Stewart added, "Our long-term success is dependent on advancing deposits from regional exploration programs through zone discovery, delineation, economic feasibility analysis and ultimately production. Acquiring the Croxall properties is the first stage of our long term strategy of delineation of existing deposits such as Hart, as well as exploration of targets which currently lie outside existing mine plans."

The acquired properties cover an area of approximately 1,760 hectares and consist of 110 mining claim units located within Eldorado, Adams, Deloro, and Shaw Townships. The acquired property is contiguous with Liberty's Redstone property, which hosts the Redstone Mine and Mill operations.

Liberty entered into three separate option agreements to acquire the properties beginning in 2006. Since then, Liberty completed cash payments and issued shares to vendors as well as completed significant exploration programs in 2007 and 2011 thereby fully exercising its options. These properties, identified as the "Croxall 1," "Croxall 2," and "Croxall 3" properties, are collectively known as the "Croxall Property." Property vendors retain Net Smelter Return ("NSR") royalties on the claims acquired. The royalties total 3% and have buy-back provisions.

Croxall Project The Croxall property is located on the southwest limb of the Shaw Dome, which is host to several nickel deposits in the Timmins area, including Liberty's Redstone Deposit, Hart Deposit, Hart East Zone, and the McWatters Deposit (Figure 1). A significant portion of the Croxall property lies within the preferred stratigraphic horizon of ultramafic volcanic rocks which are in close proximity to footwall iron formation, both features deemed prospective for Kambalda-type nickel deposits such as Liberty's other nickel deposits in the Shaw Dome. Previous work on the Croxall property discovered the "Mustang Zone," a nickel zone which the Company believes warrants further exploration. Highlights of previous drill results on the Mustang Zone include the interception of 1.20% Ni over 2.4 metres in drill hole CL-11-02.

Figure 1: Liberty's Shaw Dome Property

Resource estimation has not been completed as yet on the Mustang Zone as it is in early stage exploration. Numerous geophysical (airborne electromagnetic) anomalies are also present on the Croxall property, which the Company believes warrant further exploration.

Drilling, Sampling, Analytical Procedures, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control The Company's exploration programs are subject to technical and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures conforming to industry best practices and NI 43-101.

He #39;s Already Gone - Michinil "Collab"
Here is one of Michele #39;s songs I found myself humming along with as I took the subway last week. I hope the other passengers didn #39;t think I was crazy. Here #39;s her original version: http://www.youtube.com Visit her channel, as she has many more gems, both originals and covers: http://www.youtube.com I put "collab" in quotes because it was more like me just taking the liberty to add a few instruments to her existing song. I #39;m not sure if "collab" is the right word, or perhaps "remix" or "multitrack" 🙂 I initially wanted to add bass, but I didn #39;t have a bass where I was this weekend, so I just added a second guitar instead. I also had some technical challenges editing this song this weekend, so the sound quality may not be as good as it should be. --- His car may be parked in the driveway He may have eaten breakfast at home But inside he is slowly dying In his heart he feels so alone He may do all he #39;s supposed to Fix the house and pay all the bills You think if you play your cards right He #39;ll love you, but he never will (Chorus) He #39;s already gone Release him from the pain and misery He #39;s already gone If you love him, you will set him free He may come home every evening Smile as he walks through the door Even make small talk at dinner But he don #39;t want to be there anymore (Chorus) (Bridge) You hold on to him like he #39;s some sort of prize And you ignore his desperate cries You don #39;t understand him And you don #39;t have a clue He #39;s already gone And he don #39;t love you He may be sleeping in your ...From:carmen75013Views:9 1ratingsTime:03:34More inMusic

Swansea v Liverpool 0-0 | Rodgers Interview | Premier League | 25-11-2012
Brendan Rodgers was frustrated on his return to the Liberty Stadium as his Liverpool side were held to a draw by Swansea City in the Premier League. Liverpool had Jose Enrique #39;s close-range effort ruled out for offside, and Raheem Sterling hit the crossbar with a volley. Swansea #39;s best chance fell to Ashley Williams who saw a powerful header cleared off the line by Joe Allen. The result lifts Swansea to eighth in the table with Liverpool 11th. It was Liverpool #39;s eighth successive game without defeat in the Premier League, while Swansea have lost just once in their last seven league outings. The match also saw Swansea keep a clean sheet for the first time in 11 league matches. Liverpool manager Rodgers was met with a mixture of applause and a few boos when he emerged from the tunnel in Swansea for the first time since leaving the Swans for Anfield in May. His last match in charge of Swansea had been against Liverpool at the end of last season. But the pre-match controversy surrounding Williams #39; comments about Luis Suarez in his autobiography appeared to be forgotten as the players smiled and shook hands before kick-off. Swans captain Williams said in his book that he wanted to "knock out" Suarez during last season #39;s game at Anfield and accused him of diving a vicious right foot volley and Swans #39; goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel saved well when Glen Johnson was clean through.
