Liberty to issue shares to reduce obligations

Liberty Telecoms Holdings Inc., the telco venture between San Miguel Corp. and Qatar Telecom, is issuing voting preferred shares to its major stockholders to reduce obligations, according to a stock exchange disclosure filed yesterday.

Liberty specifically noted that its board approved the issuance of 431.2 million unissued shares of unlisted preferred shares to SMCs Vega Telecoms Inc., 287.32 million shares to Qtel West Bay Holdings S.P.C. and 161.48 million shares to White Dawn Solution Holdings Inc. The issue price has been set at P1 a share.

Liberty said the preferred shares are voting, participating, nonredeemable and will have preference over common shares in case the company goes out of business.

The move comes as Liberty increased its deficit to P9.72 billion as of the end of September, its third quarter financial filing showed.

Liberty provides post-paid and pre-paid broadband services but, partly due to intense competition and declining subscriber count, service revenues during the nine-month period went down 44 percent to P197.3 million, the company reported.

Liberty said net loss narrowed to P813.57 million against the P881.95 million of the same period last year.

Liberty places eighth at state

November 26, 2014

In a fall sports season filled with firsts for the Liberty High School athletic department, the Patriots volleyball team made sure it got in on the action, too.

By Greg Farrar The Liberty High School volleyball team at the schools first state tournament appearance is cheerful after a well-fought first set as the Patriots break from the huddle for the second set of their Nov. 14 match against Burlington-Edison.

Liberty made its first state volleyball appearance in school history Nov. 14-15 and proceeded to pick up the programs first state trophy, with an eighth-place finish.

I thought we definitely had a very good chance to place, but my true expectations were, lets go in, lets play the best volleyball we can as a team, and kind of leave everything on the court, Liberty coach Trina Christensen said.

The Patriots, led by KingCo Most Valuable Player Shea OBrien, punched their ticket to state with a second-place finish at the District 2/3 2A championship Nov. 7-8.

Libertys only loss in that tournament came at the hands of North Kitsap, the team that went on to place second at state.

In first-round, 2A-state action at Lakewoods Pierce College Nov. 14, the Patriots fell to Burlington-Edison, 3-0. Despite the score, Christensen said it was one of her teams better games during the tournament.

One of our best matches, I think, is one that we lost, she said. We lost the first round to Burlington-Edison. However, I feel we played very, very well against them. To me, that showed that we came to state really wanting to work hard.
