Liberty Global (LBTYB) Downgraded From Buy to Hold

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Liberty Global (LBTYB) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from Buy to Hold with a ratings score of C+. TheStreet Ratings Team has this to say about their recommendation:

"We rate LIBERTY GLOBAL PLC (LBTYB) a HOLD. The primary factors that have impacted our rating are mixed - some indicating strength, some showing weaknesses, with little evidence to justify the expectation of either a positive or negative performance for this stock relative to most other stocks. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its increase in stock price during the past year, compelling growth in net income and revenue growth. However, as a counter to these strengths, we find that the company has favored debt over equity in the management of its balance sheet."

2015 Subaru Liberty road test review | Bargain at $29,990

THE 2015 Subaru Liberty sedan spearheads an aggressive attack from the marque, which will start its improved mid-size range from an uber-sharp $29,990.

While the Outback large SUV has also received a host of cuts, Subaru has been cut-throat with its sedan.

Headlining the repositioning is the top-shelf 3.6R variant which has been reduced by $14,000.

But features haven't been sacrificed in the process. Instead all Liberty models will gain additional features.

Prompting the price cuts are the growing European competitors entering mainstream, along with the Japanese free trade agreement, more efficient manufacturing and a favourable exchange rate.

Opportunity knocks

There is method within pricing madness at Subaru.

Not only acknowledging the growing shift toward European and prestige offerings, the imminent closure of local car manufacturing by Ford, Holden and Toyota has opened the door to new opportunities.

Those still in the market for a six-cylinder sedan will find the Liberty has what it takes to fill the void, while the Outback does the job as family hauler.

'Green' groups fear what bill means for state park

Those ideas amount to a "sneak attack" on Liberty State Park and could become reality under legislation sitting on Gov. Christie's desk, environmental groups opposed to one measure in the bill warn.

But the Department of Environmental Protection, which oversees the 1,200-acre state park in Jersey City, says that opponents are wrong and that there are no plans to build commercial or residential property on the site.

The dispute represents one of the latest fights between the Republican governor and environmental groups. This time, though, the disagreement arises from language added into a bill passed by the Democratic-controlled legislature and pushed by Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D., Hudson).

Jeff Tittel, director of the New Jersey Sierra Club, views the language as damaging for the state's park lands.

"We see this as a sneak attack on public open space," he said.

The added language says that the commission would be allowed to "evaluate, approve and implement any plan or plans for the further preservation, development, enhancement or improvement of Liberty State Park."

The eleventh-hour addition led Tittel's group to oppose legislation it had initially supported. Tittel worries that the commission's mandate could conflict with the environmental protection department's mission.

"The jurisdiction is no longer going to be the DEP but the Meadowlands [Regional] Commission," Tittel said. "They're not in the business of planning parks; they're much more in the development business."

DEP spokesman Larry Ragonese said the park would remain under the department's control. The agency wants to enhance the park's amenities and make it a destination for tourists, he said.
