Former Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman took a critical look at his own party, asserting that it is devoid of a soul. In a lengthy interview with the UKs Daily Telegraph, Huntsman elaborated on what he viewed as missteps, and offered some advice going forward.
Its troubling that the party currently doesnt have a leader or a defined agenda. But the good news, he said, is that will come in time through the reformation process. The GOP must return the system to the people, Huntsman argued.
In particular, he noted that the party would do well to embrace a strong dose of libertarianism. On social issues specifically, Huntsman said state governments should absolutely be able to implement gay marriage.
Recalling the Republican primary race, during which he was a candidate, Huntsman said the process didnt favor long-term competitive candidates, who would have fared better against Democrats.
The party right now is a holding company thats devoid of a soul and it will be filled up with ideas over time and leaders will take their proper place, he said. We cant be known as a party thats fear-based and doesnt believe in math.
In the end it will come down to a party that believes in opportunity for all our people, economic competitiveness and a strong dose of libertarianism, he said.
Speaking of the future, Huntsman refused to name names when it came to which rising Republican stars he supports. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, and Mitt Romneys former running mate Congressman Paul Ryan all deserve high marks individually, he said but the GOP must go through a very competitive process in terms of ideas.

Re: Guns Do Not Kill People
No, it is proximally the wounds they cause that kill people. or perhaps it is Big Bangs and the existence of universes that, ultimately, kill people! See how silly we can get? Ok, this is a response to Julie Borowski and her video "Guns Do Not Kill People" http://www.youtube.com One quick note. Towards the end i state that #39;taking all guns out of circulation won #39;t solve the issue #39; which was not really what I meant to say. What I meant to say was #39;TRYING to take all guns out of circulation....etc etc #39; because, i propose, there are simply too many and too much resistance, hence the staged approach to longer term disarmament that I advocate here. Also, go and subscribe to the newly risen Vogter: VogterViking! http://www.youtube.com Also, if you want a few musings on on the libertarianism I see on YT (which is generally the extreme sort) I edited off the end of this video and have uploaded it unlisted here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdpOkvLva44 One last thing. When I hear "Guns do not kill people", as an argument to not regulate firearms, I immediately think of this crazy YT channel which you just HAVE to see if you have never before: http://www.youtube.com Some crazy vids of things which should be legal as they #39;don #39;t kill people #39; 50 Cal Machine Gun vs. 250 Watermelons http://www.youtube.com especially what he says at 2:10 to 3:10 FLAMETHROWER MASSACRE http://www.youtube.com ...and you just HAVE to see this one! The government's policy of pushing ahead with gay marriage is tearing the Tory party apart, according to Ukip leader Nigel Farage.
Many Conservative MPs have revealed their local party membership has strong objections to allowing gay marriage ceremonies and more members are even leaving in protest.
Farage claimed there is a gulf between rural and urban voters on the issue and that traditional Conservatives were feeling disillusioned by the policy.
"David Cameron's proposal has the potential to rip apart the traditional rural Tory vote," Farage told the Guardian.
"While Ukip wholly respects the rights of gay people to have civil partnerships, we feel the prime minister's proposals will present an affront to millions of people in this country for whom this will be the final straw."
Some have accused Ukip of opportunism, as opposing gay marriage appears contradictory to the libertarianism the party often preaches.
But party chairman Steve Crowther told politics.co.uk: "As a libertarian party we have no objection to gay marriage per se, but we are opposed to the bill.
"Libertarianism is about balancing people's rights. To deliver virtually no new rights at all for gay people the government is steamrolling those of religious people.
"They are picking a fight with millions of people of many faith communities for no benefit."
Over 100 Conservative MPs had planned to vote against the bill, which has strong support from Liberal Democrats and most Labour MPs.
