Dan Reale of Plainfield has decided against running for Congress in 2014, citing family concerns and timing issues.
Following the Nov. 6 election in which he finished last in a four-man contest, Libertarian Reale had said he would try again. In a Nov. 15 email he notified Libertarian Party activists and other supporters of his change of mind.
Electing anyone to Congress in 2014 really means they start in 2015, he wrote. But the time that extreme action needs to be taken to address our extreme situation is no later than June 2013. And that involves major restructuring of how we address healthcare, a major overhaul of our tax code, and a night and day change in how we address energy and foreign policy.
Reale also stepped down from the chairmanship of the Libertarian Party of Connecticut effective Nov. 11. Saying that his efforts were made because Democrats and Republicans are incapable or unwilling to make needed changes, he urged activists to remember their personal commitments.
I attempted all I could to avoid us driving in to this brick wall, Reale wrote. It all came at a great expense to my health, my family and my finances. That too can only go on for so long. Spend your time and political effort accordingly.
