NORFOLK Va.- It comes full circle for the Bly family, as former NFL All-Pro cornerback and College Football Hall of Famer Dr Blys son, Jordan, committed to Old Dominion University (ODU) on Aug. 5.

Dr is from Chesapeake (11 minutes from Norfolk) and went to Western Branch High School before playing three seasons at UNC in the 1990s.

Jordan had offers from Florida International, Pittsburgh and UNC-Charlotte but ultimately decided to go to ODU.

Jordan is listed as a three-star wide receiver by 247sports.com. In his junior season with the Myers Park Mustangs in Charlotte, N.C., Jordan racked up 501 yards receiving yards and seven touchdowns en route to a 12-1 record.

The Monarchs are looking to bounce back under new head coach Ricky Rahne after going 1-11 with Bobby Wilder last season, the same coach who led the team to the schools only bowl game win in the 2016 Bahamas Bowl.

PHILADELPHIA After playing a doubleheader Wednesday that taxed their bullpen and staring down another doubleheader Saturday against the Rays, the Yankees could have used an effective and not to mention lengthy outing from Jordan Montgomery Thursday night.

They got neither.

Montgomery, excellent in his season debut last Friday against the Red Sox, was the opposite of that against the Phillies, allowing five runs in four innings of a 5-4 loss at Citizens Bank Park.

Other than Gerrit Cole, the Yankees have not gotten a lot of length from their starters.

Nothing beats several outings [in a row] from your starters that preserve guys down there in that pen, Aaron Boone said. [Over] the long haul we have to do a little bit better job of that.

The Yankees (9-3), who did extend their franchise record to 12 straight games with at least one home run to open the season when the slumping Gary Sanchez hit one out in the seventh inning to make it a one-run game, start a four-game series Friday night at Tropicana Field against Tampa.

Montgomery, who allowed one run and five hits over 5 2/3 innings against Boston in picking up his first victory since April 21, 2018, allowed those five runs and six hits against the Phillies (3-4), plunging his team in a 5-2 hole after three innings. The biggest blow came off a hanging curveball in the first that J.T. Realmuto hit out for a 3-0 lead.

Changeup was a little inconsistent, curveball wasnt there, said Montgomery, who allowed a two-run double to Phil Gosselin in the third on a 1-and-2 changeup to make it 5-2. Hung one to Realmuto [and] that kind of set the tone for the game I either had a really good inning or a really bad inning. The innings I actually attacked guys, we had pretty good results.

Boone, wanting to rest some of his top relief arms, such as those belonging to Adam Ottavino and Chad Green, got a combined four scoreless innings from David Hale and Jonathan Holder.

Phillies righthander Zach Eflin, making his season debut, allowed two runs (none earned) and four hits over four innings. A suspect Phillies bullpen held the Yankees down until the seventh when Sanchez, 2-for-29 with 18 strikeouts to that point, hit an opposite-field, two-run homer off Nick Pivetta to make it a 5-4 game.

I definitely think I was due, knowing how things were going for me, Sanchez said through his interpreter. It was my time to put a good hit on the ball.

Giancarlo Stanton doubled with one out in the eighth off Jose Alvarez, who retired Gleyber Torres for the second out and was replaced by Hector Neris to face Aaron Judge, pinch hitting for Brett Gardner.

Judge, given the night off along with DJ LeMahieu, fell behind 0-and-2 and struck out.

Neris retired Gio Urshela and Sanchez to start the ninth but LeMahieu, pinch hitting for Tyler Wade, singled. That brought up Mike Tauchman, who added to his already impressive total of big hits this season with a single (the outfielders two-run single in the second made it 3-2). Luke Voit, however, flied to the middle of the track in deep right-center to end it.

The Yankees went quietly in the third, the inning noteworthy only for Boone, between innings, apparently taking issue with a fan outside an entry gate in center blasting an air horn periodically duringTorres at-bat to end the inning (Torres flied to right). The umpires conferred and it was not clear if they, or anyone, had jurisdiction over the area directly outside the stadium but when the Yankees batted in the fourth the air horn was silent and it remained that way the rest of the game, though the small group of fans continued to cheer, chant and occasionally clang cowbells, which was the case the night before.

I didnt necessarily think they could do anything about it, Boone said, but at least it was something I wanted to point out.

Montgomery said he wasnt bothered by any of the noise but wasnt thrilled with it.

Its kind of messed up that theyre out there, he said, but it is what it is.

One million dollars is being donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund Inc. and $1 million to the Formerly Incarcerated and Convicted People and Families Movement. The Black Voters Matter organization will receive $500,000, according to a statement by the Jordan Brand.

The commitment is part of a $100 million, 10-year pledge that Jordan and the Jordan Brand announced on June 5 to "impact the fight against systemic racism." The pledge focuses on three areas: social justice, economic justice, and education and awareness.

"We know it will take time for us to create the change we want to see, but we are working quickly to take action for the Black Community's voice to be heard."

The organizations were chosen based on their ability to create an immediate impact and to "support reformative practices that drive real change in the Black community," the statement said.

"The $100 million commitment was just the start," Jordan Brand president Craig Williams said. "We are moving from commitment to action. Our initial partners can directly impact the social and political well-being of the Black community. We will have a disciplined focus on social justice, economic justice and education, as the most effective ways for us to eliminate the systemic racism that remains in society."

The statement said that the three organizations will focus on cities and states where Black people are, relative to their share of the overall population, underrepresented in voter registration and turnout numbers.

The latest pair features a mash-up of the most coveted colorways with a mismatched red and yellow suede uppers inspired by the Raging Bulls and Tokyo makeups, respectively. Other styles will also make a cameo on the shoe like contrasting tongue and sock liners pulled from the Bel-Air and Laser styles. The theme continues on the multicolored Nike Air-cushioned midsole and a translucent outsole.

The Air Jordan 5 was designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield and made its retail debut in 1990. One of MJs notable accomplishments in the shoe is scoring a career-high of 69 points against one of his rivals, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Jordan Community Resource Center (Jordan CRC)in Cleveland Heights received a $500,000 federal grant to continue its work providing safe housing and services for human trafficking victims.

The Department of Justices Office for Victims of Crime is granting a total of $35 million to 73 organizations nationwide to help offer short-term housing assistance for trafficking victims, as well help locating permanent housing, securing employment and receiving occupational training and counseling.

Ohio received $1 million, which will be split between the Jordan Community Resource Center and Ohio Cincinnati Union in Bethel.

Ohio had the fourth most reported cases of human trafficking in the country in 2018.

U.S. Attorney General William Barr and presidential adviser Ivanka Trump announced the awards at the White House this week, alongside trafficking victims and the organizations that help them, includingTenisha Watson, the founder and CEO of Jordan CRC.

The administration has heard these concerns and is responding by awarding leading nonprofit organizations the necessary funding to ensure that survivors have a stable place to live, Trump saidTuesday.

The nonprofit Jordan CRCprovides supportive housing, workforce training, counseling and other supportive services for Northeast Ohio women transitioning out of incarceration or who have been been impacted by human trafficking and drug addiction.

In a statement, Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) applauded the White Houses commitment to ensure human trafficking victims have the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

"These grants will help victims and survivors in Ohio secure safe housing and gain the workplace skills necessary to reach their God-given potential, Portman said.

The New Orleans Saints defensive end appeared on Good Morning Football this week on NFL Network to preview the 2020 season and lay out his expectations, starting with a Week 1 kickoff against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Theyve got the second-greatest quarterback of all-time, right behind Drew Brees, and now weve got a head-to-head two times a year, Jordan said, via NFL.com. Weve got our work cut out for us and then they have an addition, you bring in Rob Gronkowski and LeSean McCoy, you already had two 1,000-yard receivers in (Chris) Godwin and Mike Evans.

This is a team thats fighting for second place.

Thats bold talk, which isnt new for Jordan (who famously shipped bottles from Jordan Winery to Cam Newton after his Saints swept Newtons Carolina Panthers).But will the Saints defense show up in Week 1?

The black and gold have been notoriously slow starters in recent years. Despite winning 13 games in each of the last two season, they stumbled out of the gate in both season-openers: in 2019, the Saints averaged 333.1 total yards allowed per game (11th-best in the NFL), but opened the year by allowing Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans to drop 414 yards of offense on their heads, scoring 28 points in a game that came down to a last-second Wil Lutz field goal for the win.

A year earlier, the Saints allowed 349.1 yards from scrimmage per game (ranking 14th league-wide) but were run off the field by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Ryan Fitzpatrick shredded them to the tune of 529 total yards, winning 48-40 in a game that was more lopsided than that score suggests. This kind of goes without saying, but just to be clear: Brady is a better quarterback than Fitzpatrick.

Sure, the Saints rebounded in both cases. But its an ugly pattern, and they cant afford another start like what weve seen before. Jordan and the Saints must hit the ground running in 2020 if theyre going to win their third consecutive division title. With new uncertainty introduced from the COVID-19 pandemic and Brady surrounded by weapons young (Evans, Godwin) and old (Gronkowski, McCoy) theres very little margin for error.

The documentary gave fans a deeper history in Scottie Pippen and why he felt compelled to take a discount to remain on the Bulls during their championship run. Viewers also got a peek at Phil Jackson's coaching methods, which have helped him win 11 NBA championships in his coaching career. Furthermore, The Last Dance documentary set up a clear villain in general manager Jerry Krause - interestingly, it wasn't the only time Krause was portrayed as a villainin Michael Jordan's story.

The 10-part documentary was extensive in its interviews, as Hehir was able to talk to nearly the entire 1997-98 Chicago Bulls team. He even spoke to many of Jordan's biggest rivals, including Reggie Miller, Isiah Thomas, and Gary Payton. The documentary also included two former presidents of the United States - Bill Clinton and Chicago resident Barack Obama. The Last Dance was a godsend for sports fans desperate for content, but despite the acclaim that the documentary received, it did skip over a few crucial parts that it just could not fit into the nearly 10 hours of airtime.

The Last Dance went in-depth on Michael Jordans first retirement following his third NBA championship in 1993. An entire episode was dedicated to his time playing baseball in the minor leagues, and it discussed how his fathers death and burnout from his fame likely played a role in his decision to step away from the NBA. However, The Last Dance glossed over one popular conspiracy theory regarding Jordan retiring due to gambling.

By this point, Jordans love of gambling was well documented, most famously his association with Slim Bouler, where he gave Bouler $57,000 to pay off one golfing debt. He gave multiple interviews in which he calls it a hobby, and saying in The Last Dance,I dont have a gambling problem; I have a competitive problem. But perhaps at least one person might have disagreed with Jordans assessment. The conspiracy theory believes that NBA commissioner David Stern was not a massive fan ofJordan being so closely associated with gambling. This theory assumes that Stern suspended Jordan under the table for 18 months to put some distance between him and his gambling problems. Jordans mention of Stern in his retirement press conference perhaps adds some credence to this conspiracy. He said,Five years down the road, if the urge comes back, if the Bulls will have me, if David Stern lets me back in the league, I may come back.

The Last Dance discussed the draft-day trade in 1987 that sent Scottie Pippen from Seattle to Chicago in exchange for Olden Polynice. Still, it was the trade that almost sent Pippen back to Seattle seven years later, which would have shook the landscape of the NBA in the mid-90s, that wasn't mentioned in the documentary.After the Chicago Bulls completed their first three-peat and Michael Jordan retired for the first time to play baseball, the Bulls nearly made a trade that would have sent their other superstar packing.

The Bulls had a deal in place with the Seattle Supersonics that would have sent one of the most electrifying young stars in the game, Shawn Kemp, to Chicago, along with two-time 6th man of the year, Ricky Pierce, and swapping a draft pick in return for Pippen. The pairing of Pippen and Gary Payton would have likely catapulted Seattle into the upper-echelon of the NBA. The trade ultimately fell through when word of the deal trickled out, and the Sonics owner pulled out of the agreement when fans caused an uproar aboutKemp potentially being traded.

Jordan toldESPN in 2008 that the Pippen trade likely would have altered his decision to come out of retirement. When asked if he still would have played in 1995, Jordan said, Probably not. I could have played with Shawn, but I wouldnt have been as comfortable as I was with Scottie. Dennis Rodmans trip to Las Vegas in 1998 was one of the most meme-able moments from The Last Dance. His adventures in Sin City with Carmen Electra shocked fans as they watched Rodman overstay his 48-hour vacation in the middle of the season and had to be retrieved out of his hotel room by Michael Jordan. But what many people may not know, and what The Last Dance did not mention, isRodmans first trip to Las Vegas as a Chicago Bull.

In the previous season, Dennis Rodman made his first excursion to Las Vegas as a Bull, only this time it was not just some trip during the regular season, but it was in-between games four and five of the NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz. The request came after the Bulls dropped consecutive games, and Rodman underperformed in each. Coach Phil Jackson approved the request, and Rodman came back rejuvenated to help the Bulls win their second straight NBA championship, likely giving him a bit more leash for his trip the following season.

Michael Jordans unique leadership style was on full display in The Last Dance. Jordan was concerned that the documentary might make him look bad and come off as a bully, and he might have had a point. His treatment of Scott Burrell made headlines from the first episode when he went after Burrell, who pleaded with MJ to stop because Burrells parents were going to watch it, to which Jordan responded, Mom and Dad, hes an alcoholic. Jordan would continue to disrespect Burrell in practice, to go along with many other players, including the instance where he gave Steve Kerr a black eye.

However, there was one player who refused to put up with Jordans antics; Robert Parish. Parish was already a three-time champion and nine-time all-star when he got to Chicago for his final season in 1996. The 43-year-old Parish messed up a play in practice that led to Jordans typical irate reaction. The 7-foot-1-inch Parish was not going to back down, I told him, Im not as enamored with you as these other guys. Ive got some rings too," Parish recalled to ESPN. At that point he told me, Im going to kick your ass. I took one step closer and said, No, you really arent. After that, he didnt bother me.

It came as a surprise to many when Michael Jordan said he would have signed for one year to try to get his 7th ring in 1999 instead of announcing his second retirement. Jordan said all the role players would have undoubtedly agreed to return if Phil Jackson was retained as coach. Scottie Pippen would have taken a little convincing, of course, but he likely would have come back to Chicago as well. It was maddening for Jordan because he believes they could have won the NBA championship that season, but what this statement overlooks is that Jordan would likely have missed the majority of the season due to injury.

In the summer of 1998, Jordan was on vacation in the Bahamas when he severed a tendon in his right index finger with a cigar cutter. In his retirement press conference, he announced that the injury would require surgery, which would keep him out for two months. It's impossible to know how much the injury influenced his decision to retire instead of playing in the lockout-shortened NBA season. Even if he had played, it's tough to imagine the Bulls being as dominating as they were throughout their run without Jordan for the majority of the regular season.

Perhaps it should not have come as a significant surprise that The Last Dance did not go beyond, well, the last dance. However, with the timeline jumping around as much as it did before the 1998 season, it was a bit odd that the documentary did not talk about anything after that Bulls dynasty broke up. It did not mention that Scottie Pippen teamed up with Charles Barkley in Houston after leaving Chicago and nearly made another NBA finals appearance as a Portland Trailblazer. It said nothing about how Phil Jackson went on to win another three-peat as the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, and there was nothing on how Steve Kerr went on to win a championship the following year as a member of the San Antonio Spurs. Plus, there wasDennis Rodman's failed attempt at becoming an action star.

The Last Dance's most shocking omission is that it did not mention Michael Jordan would go on to play two more seasons in the NBA andultimately own the Charlotte NBA franchise. Jordans years as a Washington Wizard were a far cry from his peak days in the Windy City, but he still averaged at least 20 points per game and made the all-star team in each of his two years playing. His days as an owner have been underwhelming, but it is still a significant accomplishment that probably deserved mention in the documentary.

Last Dance: Everything The Michael Jordan Documentary Leaves Out - Screen Rant

Guests on Eib, which launched in 2016, have discussed abortion, faith, divorce and disability

WHEN RAMSEY TESDELL and Ban Barkawi, two acquaintances living in Jordan, began to discuss ideas for a new podcast, they found the same word kept cropping up in conversation. Mr Tesdell, the co-founder of Sowt, a podcasting platform, and Ms Barkawi, a Middle East correspondent for Reuters, were drawn to transgressive topics. They decided that the podcast would probe eib, a loaded term which translates as shame in Arabic.

Since its launch in 2016, Eib (pronounced aye-eeb) has shared the stories of ordinary men and women who have pushed back against the strict social codes that govern identity, gender and sexuality in the Arab world. It is a theme that resonates for Mr Tesdell, a Palestinian-American who relocated to Amman in 2006. Born to an Arab mother and an American father, Mr Tesdell often finds himself excluded from a patriarchal definition of lineage that sees Jordanian women (among other nationalities) unable to pass their citizenship on to their children. Its like a switch: But your fathers not Arab so youre not Arab, he says.

Eib hopes to challenge such uncompromising attitudes. Now in its fifth season, the show has delved into taboo topics that include interfaith marriage, divorce, abortion and the desire to remain childless. Though each season is fronted by a new host with a personal interest in the topics covered, they act as a conduit for their guests narrative. We dont like to take an ethical stance and say, This is right, this is wrong, Mr Tesdell says. We like to tell peoples stories and let them express what happened to them, or what is happening to them, or how they identify, or how they see the world, and that allows us to not take a position while being very critical and engaged in the topic.

In a recent episode, entitled You Are My Legs, Aya (not her real name) discussed the opposition she faced from her family and friends after deciding to marry a man with paraplegia. Because she is an able-bodied and well-educated woman, they assumed she would have to make sacrifices such as assuming the more physically strenuous household tasks traditionally ascribed to men. In Ayas case, it wasnt disability itself that was perceived as contentious; it was the union between a disabled and non-disabled person.

These hurtful presuppositions and speculations have taken for granted that such a relationship is negatively unbalanced, says Saleem Salameh, the episodes producer and host and a relative of Ayas. Beyond the discomfort that Ayas relationship provoked in others, Mr Salameh identified another, more subtle boundary that was transgressed when she decided to broadcast her story. Sometimes even sharing love or talking about love is considered a taboo, he adds. You usually have a specific limitation for the things you share with the outside community.

The shows most popular episodes have drawn up to 70,000 listeners. In one, a mother discussed her concerns about the physical safety of her effeminate son. Another follows a Christian man who converted to Islam to marry his wife. These are topics that are really on the hush-hush, Mr Tesdell says. People will not bring them up, or discuss it almost ever.

Podcasting is still a nascent scene in the Middle East, but it carries growing weight among its audience. According to Podcasting & UAE: Trust in the Medium of the Moment, a report published in 2019, 1.3m people in the United Arab Emirates16% of the adult populationregularly listen to podcasts. Of those, 92% trust this new media form more than traditional outlets such as radio or television. Oral storytelling has always held a revered role in the Middle East, with hakawatis (storytellers) entertaining their listeners with elaborate fables, heroic accounts and tales from the Koran. That legacy, coupled with the difficulty faced by state governments in censoring audio, has resulted in a surge of interest in the more diverse stories offered by podcasts.

At the height of Jordans lockdown, when stringent measures saw residents threatened with jail time if they left their homes, Mr Tesdell watched the podcasts listenership swell by 66%. Seeking to capitalise on this burgeoning community, he arranged listening parties where anyone could join via Zoom to share their personal experiences on topics that have ranged from sexual health to maintaining relationships in a pandemic. He was surprised to see strangers opening up to one another, despite the controversial subjectsproving, as he confided, that all we need is a safe space to do so.

As the NBA continues with its restart of the season, Charlotte Hornets fans have learned more about Michael Jordans $100 million dollar donation. On Wednesday, Jordan shared details on where the first half of the donation would be going.

According to reports, the first sum of the donation will be going to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Formerly Incarcerated, Convicted Peoples and Families Movement. These groups will both receive $1 million each.

Jordan also announced that $500,000 would go toBlack Voters Matter. This organization assists in promote voter turnout and get people registered to vote.

On Wednesday, Jordan told the media that he was all in with Jordan Brand, the Jordan Family and our partners, who share a commitment to address the historical inequality that continues to plague Black Communities in the U.S.

These donations come after Jordan made his $100 million dollar pledge back in June. Jordans goal is tosupport social justice, economic justice and education and awareness within the black community.

However, Jordan has continued to be an advocate for his community. His $100 million pledge only comes about ten months after he announced a $1 million dollar donation to assist with Hurricane Relief in the Bahamas.

Following Jordans donation, the Hornets will be looking forward to October, where the team will be able to participate in the NBA Draft. The Hornets will likely be without basketball until December.

This wonderful gesture was the first piece of Michael Jordans plan to give back to the community. Jordan will likely announce more about future donations in the coming months.

SUPPLY Jordan William Hernandez, 22, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020. Jordan was born Dec. 6, 1997, in Brunswick County.

He graduated from West Brunswick High School in 2016 and was pursuing a career in the HVAC industry. Jordan was a member of United Vision Pentecostal Church.

Jordan was preceded in death by a brother, Dalton Hernandez; and grandfathers, Bruce Barnes and Paul Hernandez.

He is survived by his parents, Ronnie and Benita Barnes Hernandez; brother, Christian Joel C.J. Hernandez of the home; sister, Amber Taylor of Wilmington; maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Barnes of Supply; and paternal grandmother, Rosa Hernandez of Riverside, California.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, at United Vision Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Maurice Milligan and Rev. Ricky Hewett officiating. Interment will follow in Lancaster Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chad Milligan, Nate Penney, Francis Hearn II, Isaac Barnes, Matthew Barnes and Jonathan Zelkowski. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Hewett, Jamie Stone, Ken Mills, Roland Tedder Jr. and Danny Mumford. Jordan will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Nike revealed that NBA icon Michael Jordans fifth signature sneaker will be releasing in a new Ghost Green colorway this weekend. With both the classic 90s sitcom and the Air Jordan 5 celebrating their 30th anniversaries, its fitting that the shoe will release with a look Smith would undoubtedly have worn.

The shoe features a white leather upper thats combined with neon accents, while geometric patterns on the liner resemble some of Smiths outfits worn on the sitcom. The shoes standout details are the mismatched green and pink Jumpman logos on the tongue and heel, while purple midsoles and translucent outsoles complete the look.

The brand also referenced Smiths character in 2018 by releasing a variation of the classic Air Jordan 5 Grape without laces a nod to how he would wear the model on-screen. Smith also celebrated the shows 30th birthday by releasing a limited-edition Fresh Prince/ Summertime apparel collection in May.

The Air Jordan 5 Retro Ghost Green will be available on the Nike SNKRS app and at select Jordan Brand retailers on Aug. 9 for a retail price of $190.

This Air Jordan 5 Release Pays Tribute to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air - Footwear News

AMMAN, Jordan Jordanian anti-riot police clashed with protesting teachers in the capital Amman on Wednesday, with several demonstrators being beaten with clubs and arrested.

Hundreds of protesters headed toward the prime minister's office were met by hundreds of riot police who pushed the crowd back as they chanted peaceful, peaceful, and called for the prime ministers resignation.

Clad with clubs, police beat some of the protesters, several of whom fell to the ground after the clash. Dozens were arrested, according to an Associated Press video journalist at the scene.

The journalist, Omar Akour, was also beaten on the head with a club, despite telling police he was a journalist, a declaration that was ignored. Akour fell to the ground after being struck, where another policeman kicked him. Police smashed his cellphone, destroying the footage he filmed of the clashes.

Police had blocked off the area leading to the prime ministers office and authorities had warned before the protest that any gatherings of over 20 people, in violation of coronavirus restrictions, would draw a stern response.

The protesters turned out to oppose the arrest of 13 members of their syndicate. The arrests came after Ammans deputy attorney general suspended the members of the Jordan Teachers Association council from service and ordered the closure of the syndicate and its branches for two years over criminal and corruption charges.

The members were arrested after threatening to stage protests over a salary dispute.

The Jordanian government had agreed to increase teachers salaries by 50% after a month-long strike in September of last year. But after restrictions related to the coronavirus outbreak hit the economy, the government postponed the salary hikes, drawing scorn from the teachers. They accused the government of failing to honor the agreement.

Thats a considerable increase from last year, when Black actors made up 19.8% of the nominee pool.

Still with a record number of nods in acting categories and some in hosting, many feel it isnt enough. And many fear it could be a performative gesture. As the fight for fair representation in Hollywood continues, many arent satisfied with this limited progress since other non acting categories didnt see the same sort of parity. 2020 Writing and directing categories didn't go quite the same. Thats why the increase in the nominations of black actors feels somewhat bittersweet for some. While there is certainly a reason to celebrate, there is also a lot of work still to be done.

There were a handful of moments in 2019 where Washington running back Derrius Guice made everyone go, 'Man, that guy is special.' Just watch his highlights against the Carolina Panthers if you don't believe me.

However, the problem with Guice a season ago was that there wereonlya handful of moments where the running back displayed his incredible talent.

For the second straight season, Guice was hampered by multiple leg injuries. The running back tore his meniscus in Week 1, causing him to miss Washington's next eight games. In Week 14, Guice suffered another injury to his other knee, the same one he tore the ACL in during the 2018 preseason. The latter injury wasn't nearly as serious, but it did end the running back's sophomore campaign.

Running backs coach Randy Jordan is one of two coaches that have been with Washington since Guice's arrival. And Jordan, like everyone else, is eager to see what Guice can do in a full 16-game season.

"I always tell him this," Jordan said. "'The only thing you did this past year is you were an appetizer, I want the whole steak, I want the whole lobster, I want the whole thing.'"

Guice, too, is eager to show that he can put together a full campaign. He's admitted he's tired of the "soft" label that critics have given him. Last week, he took to Twitter to say he's not messing around anymore in 2020 (and that's putting it lightly).

There's no question the running back is tired of hearing about his injuries. No player likes talking about being hurt.

So, they don't talk about it. Jordan said that the two never focus on Guice's injuries when they speak, rather, they talk about how to keep his body fresh and the best shape possible.

"When you talk about injuries, the biggest thing we do is we dont talk about them," Jordan said."But we always talk about, 'Hey, lets be smart football players taking care of our body and making sure were doing all the different things so that when were ready to go and play, weve built our armor up so that we can take the pounding of the season.'"

Guice knows the NFL is unforgiving about injuries. The NFL is a 'what have you done for me lately?' league. This offseason, the running back has done everything he can to arrive at training camp with his body in the best possible condition.

"The biggest thing I tell him, 'Your best ability is your reliability and your dependability,'" Jordan said."Thats something that hes shown through the offseason. He has worked his butt off and changed his body. So far in terms of what Ive seen, hes done a great job of getting himself prepared for this upcoming season."

And when Guice is on the field, he's shown plenty of promise. He's likely only scratched the surface of his potential.

"Derrius has a whole set of tools that a lot of players dont have," Jordan said."He can catch it, he can run it, he can block. All those things you ask a running back to do and also get the tough yards in the short-yardage situations and make those explosive plays."

Following the first look at the Off Noir colorway, we now get our first full look at the Union x Air Jordan 4 Retro Guava Ice.

Set to be exclusive to Union, the Guava Ice/Light Bone-Brigade Blue-Light Fusion Red looks to reverse the Blue-Light and Fusion Red colors found on the Off Noir colorway. Additionally, the shoe utilizes a brighter tone with a Light Bone nubuck base complemented by the translucent wings and off white netting.
