Ericsson Completes LTE Deployment on Cayman Islands

Cayman Islands based mobile network Lime has completed the roll out of its new LTE network. The network was installed by Ericsson as sole supplier covering 100% of the islands.

A 4G LTE mobile data service will also complement users of the latest smartphones like the iPhone 5, which Lime has the exclusive rights to provide in the Caribbean. Ericsson has also expanded Lime's existing HSPA network, which now covers 100% of the islands.

Since the upgrade took place, average data traffic on Lime's mobile network has increased by 68 times. Over the last 18 months the company said that there has been a significant increase in video, streamed TV and social networking usage.

Bill McCabe, CEO, Lime Cayman Islands, says: "At Lime, we value innovation and the skills to provide excellence in services; we have made a huge effort to deliver an unbeatable mobile data customer experience. Together with Ericsson, we are able to provide our customers with superior mobile data services and performance based on a complete LTE solution."

The solution included the deployment of a new Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and new HSS (Home Subscriber Server), as well as new radio base stations for LTE services.

The islands in Vermilion Parish

Our trip to the islands in Vermilion Parish started off great and then. There it was road closed slash detour sign. We tried to find our way in time, but ended up following a fisherman back to where we started. Not a bad thing since we stopped at this Cajun restaurant with a great menu.

But we wanted to know more about the islands. So we were directed to a place where people not only love to fish, but know everything there is to know about this fisherman's paradise...the place? Gulfway Sporting Goods.

So what did we learn about Cow, Forked and Pecan Islands? The big attraction would be the crabbing.

They can bring the family go down there and catch their 12 dozen crabs in no time at all and make it a big family outing. They also do a lot of fishing, a lot of boaters bring kids and go hydra sliding and skiing. And that's not all. And it's here where many folks stop to get supplies for just about any outdoors activity they choose.

So now it's time to get suited up and see if we can save the day with a little fishing and maybe even a mini camping excursion. And we didn't have to go too far. Now that we're done fishing, the tent has been pitched and it's time to take off the gear, lay down the fishing pole and enjoy our catch of the day.

And thanks to the kind folks at Gulfway Sporting Goods we know how to enjoy all the beauty the islands have to offer, Cow, Forked and Pecan Island. Okay so in store camping does not count but we could definitely count on the knowledge from store owner Loretta Bell. Including a shorter detour than the state offers on that road closure.

Bell says due to repairs on three bridges, it's been closed for over nine months with only one bridge still closed. As far as how long before the road reopens, well that's the one thing she does not know.
