What are the Common Symptoms and Health Problems Associated with ITP?
In this 2010 video Dr. Graeme Shaw MD, integrative medicine practitioner, is asked to describe the common symptoms and health problems associated with ITP Dr. Shaw responds: "For individuals concerned with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a person #39;s lifestyle may impact platelet quality and/or platelet counts. For instance, if a person #39;s diet consists of junk food, high sugar containing foods, processed foods and other foods that lack essential nutrients, the body may have less essential nutrients to produce high quality platelets. According to eastern medicine philosophies, if an individual suffers from high levels of toxins, physical stress or emotional stress, bone marrow function could be affected. Since the bone marrow produces platelets, anything that causes dysfunction in the bone marrow may lead to low platelet counts." http://www.getwellnatural.comFrom:GetWellNaturalLLCViews:3 0ratingsTime:00:51More inEducation

What is Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura or ITP?
In this 2010 video interview with integrative medicine practitioner Dr. Graeme Shaw MD our of Los Altos California, Dr. Shaw is asked to describe what Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura also known as ITP is. Dr. Shaw #39;s response: "Idiopathic thrombocytopenia Purpura is also known as ITP or Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura. Idiopathic thrombocytopenic Purpura is classified as an autoimmune disease with symptoms of low platelet counts, bruising, Petechiae, poor coagulation function and overall low platelets. According to western medicine, the cause of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura is unknown. Platelet count tests are performed to identify this disease. The average healthy person has 150000 to 300000 blood platelets in each milliliter of blood. People testing below 150000 may be given an ITP diagnoses and platelet counts as low as 1000 platelets are possible in individuals with ITP In Western Medicine, there is no recognized natural treatment or cure for this disease. Most Western medicine treatments for ITP can include steroids (prednisone), Intravenous immunoglobulin also known as IVIg, platelet transfusions or even splenectomy. Unfortunately, in my medical school training, there were no classes in using natural remedies for this condition so most western trained doctors have no other options but the above mentioned treatments. Are There Any Disadvantages To Taking Herbal Supplements? – Video

Are There Any Disadvantages To Taking Herbal Supplements?
In this 2010 interview, integrative medicine practitioner Dr. Graeme Shaw MD was asked if there are any disadvantages to taking herbal supplements. He replied "While herbs are natural food supplements, there still can be disadvantages of using herbal dietary supplements due to the laxative effects of some herbs as well as the possibility of a small percent of individuals having food sensitivities. Also, since herbs may support the natural and healthy detoxification pathways within a person #39;s body, the body can often begin to release previously stored toxins from the tissue of the body. Detoxification occurs within the body when the body eliminates toxins such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or stored chemicals like pesticides, prescription drugs, food additives, or heavy metals. While detoxification is generally a good thing, when the body detoxifies too fast, the body can cause unwanted symptoms including diarrhea, constipation, skin rash or flu-like symptoms. These symptoms from toxins being eliminated can be decreased or eliminated by either beginning any herbal product slowly and/or drinking more clean water during this process. I have found that the best way to prevent any possible disadvantages accompanying the use of herbal supplements is to always begin any herbal product slowly by taking less than the suggested usage printed on the bottle. For example, if the suggested usage is 3 capsules, 2 times per day, I generally begin slowly by taking only 1 capsule, twice ...From:GetWellNaturalLLCViews:0 0ratingsTime:01:10More inEducation

Would You Ever Agree To Have Your Spleen Removed? – Video

Would You Ever Agree To Have Your Spleen Removed?
In this 2010 video, integrative medicine specialist Dr. Graeme Shaw MD is asked "Would you ever agree to have your spleen removed if you had a diagnosis of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura?" Dr. Shaw responds that there are two primary concerns with splenectomy as a treatment for ITP First, he recommends always trying the simple and natural things first. Dr. Shaw recommends that all simple approaches to platelet support be tried before considering splenectomy. The second concern he mentions is to look at the effectiveness of the proposed splenectomy. Unfortunately, says Dr. Shaw, they are not 100% effective and many times a person who has undergone a splenectomy as a treatment for the symptoms of ITP winds up with the symptoms remaining, minus a spleen. http://www.getwellnatural.comFrom:GetWellNaturalLLCViews:0 0ratingsTime:01:06More inEducation

What are the Petechiae Treatment Options According to Western Medicine? – Video

What are the Petechiae Treatment Options According to Western Medicine?
Dr. Graeme Shaw MD, Los Altos California area integrative medicine practitioner was interviewed in 2010 and was asked " Dr. Shaw #39;s answer: "Treatment for petechiae according to Western Medicine is usually targeted at the suspected cause of the petechia. So if someone who is suffering from Petechiae had an infection causing it, then it will be treated with antibiotics. If petechiae occurred due to a low platelets then the treatment could involve giving a transfusion of the blood factors or platelets. If petechiae was caused by an allergic reaction to a specific kind of medicine, then an obvious remedy would be to stop administering or ingesting that drug or medicine. For some people a simple application of an ice pack on and off the afflicted area during the course of the day can help reduce petechiae. If the cause of the petechiae is Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura, then the usual western medicine drugs and modalities will be used. In Eastern Medicine, practitioners would most likely focus on supporting the body #39;s healthy platelet and coagulation function instead of focusing on a treatment for the symptoms of Petechiae." http://www.getwellnatural.comFrom:GetWellNaturalLLCViews:0 0ratingsTime:01:15More inEducation
