She received a BA in psychology from Stanford University, and a PhD in clinical psychology from Yale University, with a focus on health psychology. She completed a clinical internship focusing on Behavioral Medicine at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. Modalities such as yoga, acupuncture, working out in a gym, herbology, various dietary programs, tai chi and qi gong meditation to name a few, are listed on a menu of services. So are these services integrative medicine or alternative medicine? Is there a difference? Does it matter if the same exact therapy is called integrative medicine or alternative medicine? There is a difference between an integrative medicine and an alternative medicine. And the answer can be found in the basic differences between the definition of words integrative and alternative. Gave a lecture yesterday at Bodhi Prem Yoga about getting sick. Part of the lecture mentioned tonsil swelling and inflammation. After the infection is over, you can wait for the lymphnodes in the neck and tonsils in the throat to shrink or you can be proactive. Why speed up healing? Big tonsils hurt! Big tonsils also interfere with voice breathing and sleep. The same premise for decreasing inflammation of lymph nodes and tonsils can be applied to muscle and joint pain (like training for a hike in the Grand Canyon or your everyday arthritis sufferer.
