Tesla energy – the future – Video

Tesla energy - the future
Tesla energy - the future Nikola Tesla (10 July 1856 -- 7 January 1943) was a Serbian-American[2][3][4] inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system.[5] Tesla started working in the telephony and electrical fields before immigrating to the United States in 1884 to work for Thomas Edison. He soon struck out on his own with financial backers, setting up laboratories/companies to develop a range of electrical devices. His patented AC induction motor and transformer were licensed by George Westinghouse, who also hired Tesla as a consultant to help develop an alternating current system. Tesla is also known for his high-voltage, high-frequency power experiments in New York and Colorado Springs which included patented devices and theoretical work used in the invention of radio communication,[6] for his X-ray experiments, and for his ill-fated attempt at intercontinental wireless transmission in his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project.[7]From:pcd007xViews:0 0ratingsTime:04:34More inPeople Blogs

Double dose of hilarity at Parkland

Fans of the absurd are in for a double dose of hilarity courtesy of the Parkland College Department of Fine and Applied Arts and their current offerings: Christopher Durang's "The Actor's Nightmare" and the Neo-Futurist Acting Company's "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind."

The evening begins with Durang's short comedy, which, if experienced, would cause any thespian to wake in a cold sweat.

"The Actor's Nightmare" finds a hapless young man, referred to as George, who finds himself on a stage just moments before the curtain is to go up, surrounded by cast and staff members who tell him he, the understudy, must go on for the lead actor who has met with catastrophe.

Poor George. He has no idea how he got into this predicament, nor even what play the cast is doing. Lucky for him, apparently neither does anyone else!

One co-star tells him they're doing Noel Coward's "Private Lives." Another starts feeding him cues from "Hamlet." Or was that "Checkmate?" No, certainly the executioner's presence means this must be "A Man for All Seasons," right?

The hilarity is nonstop, skillfully staged with some simple scenery and lavish backdrops featuring the talents of Seth Valentine as the poor sap George, and a well-synchronized supporting ensemble under the direction of J.W. Morrissette.

After a 10-minute intermission, the courageous ensemble returns to tackle the madcap adventure that is "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind," which is a Chicago original written and performed by a troupe known as the Neo-Futurists.

Now in its 24th year in the Windy city, "TMLMTBGB" is a brilliant blend of improvisation and performance art during which the ensemble attempts to perform 30 "plays" within 60 minutes.

The audience is given a "menu" listing 30 titles to choose from and is instructed to call out random numbers to the moderator, who instructs the cast to begin the first number he hears.

A stopwatch is illuminated, and the executioner, channeling Vanna White, strikes numbers from a mock scoreboard as the cast moves swiftly from one scenario to another, with barely enough time in between to catch their breath!

Parkland actors on the clock as they are expected to do 30 plays in 60 minutes

CHAMPAIGN If you feel some theater and other performances are too long, head over to Parkland Theatre to see its latest production: Neo-Futurist plays from "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind" 30 plays in 60 minutes and as a warm-up, Christopher Durang's short comedy "The Actor's Nightmare."

Director J.W. Morrissette and cast promise the entire show runs 90 minutes, not counting a short intermission. And the promise is solid: a countdown clock on stage will time the presentations of the Chicago Neo-Futurist plays.

"It ends at 60 minutes even if the last play isn't over," Morrissette said before rehearsal on Monday night at the Parkland Theatre, where the plays opened Wednesday and run through Sunday. "If we don't make it through all 30 plays in one hour, a catastrophic event takes place."

The audience also is involved in that it shouts out the number of the play it wants performed. The numbers are posted on a huge sign above the stage, with the corresponding titles printed in the programs.

This gives each performance a different feel and leads to spontaneity while challenging the cast members to remember their lines, cast members said.

Seth Valentine, a University of Illinois student who is directing "Too Much Light ...," portrays the host who keeps things running.

Another possible plus for the audience: Each evening the 315-seat house is sold out, the cast will order a pizza for the audience.

Just one.

Theater-goers are expected to share.

"Usually people are too modest and won't go up to the stage" for the pizza, said cast member Clara Byczkowski, a UI acting student.

Artist Jay Jarvie Aims to Give Lady Liberty a Sister with Historic Statue of Providence Project

MEDFORD, Ore., Nov. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Author, artist, and futurist Jay Jarvie has assembled a team of business professionals to help him in building what may be the most significant public artwork project since the completion of Mt. Rushmore (1939). From his original sculpture artwork titled: Providence Lifts All, Jarvie intends to re-create the sculpture on a much grander scale. At 140 foot tall, the bronze monument will be second in height to no other US sculptures, other than the Statue of Liberty at 151 foot tall. This is no coincidence, as the sculpture is modeled after Lady Liberty and is intended to act as a "sister" monument in both form and symbolism.

Providence Lifts All is a figure representing the foreseeing care and guidance over man and the creatures of the earth. In her right hand she holds a sword, where Liberty holds a torch. The sword represents divine authority or authority executed rightly as God does. In her left hand, she holds two scrolls representing knowledge and wisdom. On her shoulder she carries a shield representing truth. Under her foot is a serpent representing Providence's power and triumph over evil.

Providence Lifts All will be built in a similar fashion to methods used to construct the Statue of Liberty with a steel framework supporting a thin metal shell. The two sculptures diverge in that the Providence Monument will be covered with a skin of bronze panels created by the lost wax process, rather than copper plates created by repose, as the Statue of Liberty was.

Inspiration for the monument came as the artist contemplated how he could generate enthusiasm for a separate project, focused on teaching sound human relations and fair economic practices; ideas that could lead us toward a higher form of civilization. "What I needed was a way to inspire people," said Mr. Jarvie. "More than just inspire, I needed a symbol of the intention of my work." That symbol, "Lady Providence," was spurred by the suggestion of the late Viktor Frankl, who suggested a Statue of Responsibility should be placed on the West Coast of the United States to balance the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast. "Viktor's recommendation was well taken, but what I needed," says Mr. Jarvie, "was something more than responsibility. Providence became the symbol; providence included responsibility and much more."

Jarvie has experience in foundry and bronze work, but this scale of project requires structural engineering and management experience as well. With methods developed in the construction of the largest bronze statue in the world, the Ushiku Amida Buddha in Japan, Jarvie and his team will use modern technology, digital enlargement, and CNC manufacturing to minimize costs and manpower. Even with these modern advancements a project like this is still fine art at its best.

The monument project coordinators will begin a fundraising venture on November 19th, 2012 on the Kickstarter.com website listed under The Statue of Providence-- heading. All contributions will gain the contributors an item of artwork to commemorate what truly will be an historic occasion.

For more information, press photos, and to follow the project visit http://www.statueofprovidence.org. Contact: Jay Jarvie (541-331-1031) jjarvie@statueofprovidence.org Media info: http://www.statueofprovidence.org/media.html

Futurist , innovation mentor lecture business leaders on economic trends

Santa Maria entrepreneurs got a lesson on thinking outside the box Thursday from a pair of businessmen who have made careers out of doing it, at a Futures Forum hosted by the Economic Alliance of Northern Santa Barbara County.

Simon Anderson, futurist and co-author of Foresight 20/20, and Rick Bess, former director and idea mentor for Adobe Systems and founder of PreBeta Inc., offered Santa Maria Valley business people a glimpse into cutting edge business from the power of online learning to the challenges and opportunities of turning northern Santa Barbara County into a international business center.

Anderson, who practiced what he preached by delivering his keynote speech via web video conference, specializes in helping business people embrace emerging technologies. He emphasized education, both how it needs to change and how it is already embracing technology.

I think right now we are beginning to unlearn the way we do things, he said, pointing out that more and more traditional education is turning to social media to better prepare its students. The world is changing faster than text books can be printed.

Anderson pointed out that while use of social media is rapidly increasing, one-third of the top 25 business schools in the country still dont have social media courses. He also said 53 percent of college graduates 25 years old and younger are in occupations that dont require a degree.

Online learning gurus like Salman Khan, whose KhanAcademy sprang from online mathematics tutorials for a young cousin into a free online education platform, are revolutionizing education, Anderson said. The academys website offers Learn almost anything for free and 208,678,274 lessons delivered.

That kind of global availability and access is how Bess said EconNSBC needs to focus its efforts.

Bess, who grew up in the Santa Maria Valley and graduated from Righetti High School before moving on to Stanford University and Adobe Systems, said that like online learning, where lessons can be passed across international borders, Santa Maria Valley businesses need to focus beyond conventional boundaries to succeed.

The chief executive officer of PreBeta Inc., a company that specializes in organizational innovation solutions and consulting, asked the crowd of more than 100 local business leaders to define boundaries. Are they defined by geography or governments such as cities or counties?

To me, those are definitions but not boundaries, he said.
