Global Futurist Jack Uldrich to Keynote at the 2014 Economic Forum

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 07, 2014

It has been said, 'The best way to predict your future is to create it.' But creating a plan for the future is no easy task. This year's 2014 Economic Forum, entitled "Creating Tomorrow," is focused on helping credit unions do just that create a tomorrow that will ensure credit unions grow and thrive.

Catalyst engaged Uldrich, back in April, as a keynote speaker at their Accelerating Success Conference in Las Vegas and they have invited him back to their Economic Forum In Dallas to discuss how they can start creating their own futures and, in turn, create success credit unions, that are able to both embrace and cultivate change.

Uldrich says, "Each year information technology is only getting better, faster, and cheaper; and hundreds of millions of new individuals are being drawn into a hyper-connected and networked global economy. The previously unknown ideas and insights of those hundreds of millions of individuals are now being added to the global consciousness, further accelerating change.

"One of the key things I do with my clients and audience members is to challenge them to think about the unthinkable. It is an excellent way to remind ones self to always expect the unexpected. This, in turn, reminds individuals and organizations, like Catalyst, to focus on integrating the principles of flexibility and adaptability into their strategic planning processes. In the future change will be the only constant, and its imperative to always keep this idea top of mind."

Uldrich will draw on materials from his book Foresight 20/20, the second edition of the book will be coming out in November.

Jack Uldrich is a renowned global futurist, independent scholar, sought-after business speaker and best-selling author. His written works have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, Forbes and hundreds of other publications around the country. He has also appeared on CNN, MSNBC and National Public Radio.

In addition to speaking on future trends, Uldrich also speaks on emerging technologies, innovation, change management and leadership. He has served as an adviser to Fortune 1000 companies. He is a master at honing in on emerging trends in economics, agriculture energy, education, Internet and communications, science, technology, healthcare, and transportation. Your Digital Twin Could Be Making Your Decisions

In a recent and intriguing article atBusiness Insider, futurist John Smart makes a bold prediction in regard to near-future technology: Within five years, we could each have a digital twin an online version of ourselves that will make decisions for us in a world of information overload.

Of course, futurists are prone to bold predictions. Its literally part of the job. But the implications of Smarts ideas have an eerie ring of plausibility. The basic gist is that, as personal digital assistants like Siri and Cortana evolve, theyll learn our habits and preferences at the same time that were delegating more and more tasks to them.

Tips For Dating An Avatar

Gradually, our personal agent will morph into a kind of cyber-self able to navigate the online world in our stead, says Smart, founder of the Acceleration Studies Foundation. And theyll live, potentially, forever. When you and I die, our kids arent going to go to our tombstones, Smart told Business Insider. Theyre going to fire up our digital twins and talk to them.

The digital twin concept is based on emerging trends in a number of areas, including conversational interface (CI) technology and improved artificial intelligence systems that can crunch massive amounts of data quickly. Our digital twins will learn about our values and interests by being constantly plugged into our personal data stream emails and online activity and by increasing verbal interaction through the CI technology.

Robot Frets Over Moral Puzzle, Humans Die

The short-term examples Smart cites in the article digital twins doing our shopping or scheduling arent particularly compelling. Proponents of online agent technology have been conjecturing on this stuff since the 1990s. But the long-range implications are interesting. As our digital twins become more savvy, they could basically become both the depositories for, and the guardians of, all of our online information.

The future of personal control isnt control of data, Smart said. The future that we care about is control of an algorithmic interface of your identity.

Steamboat Economic Summit kicks off Friday

Steamboat Springs For a company to keep a competitive edge, it must know what lies ahead in the future of the industry, according to futurist Thomas Frey.

It's about having an understanding of what's coming next, said Frey, who is one of several speakers in Steamboat this week for Friday's Steamboat Economic Summit, a conference put on by the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association.

Frey is the executive director and senior futurist for the DaVinci Institute futurist think tank and is the author of Communicating with the Future, a 2011 book about measuring and controlling the future.

More

Industries are changing rapidly, and businesses must look ahead to stay successful, Frey said.

As our economies are changing and everything is happening very quickly, the old industries that have been generating most of the wealth for years they're constantly having people do more with less, Frey said.

This equates to fewer jobs in old industries and more positions in startup companies and in new technological industries, he said.

It's important for us to look at this new technology, Frey said. This is where our future jobs are.

The 20th annual Steamboat Economic Summit begins at 8 a.m. Friday at Colorado Mountain College's Alpine Campus, 1275 Crawford Ave.

Also presenting will be K. C. Conway, former chief economist for Colliers International. Conway has 30 years of experience in the commercial real estate field and is currently the senior vice president of credit risk management for SunTrust Bank.

I'm Jason Silva, Host Of BrainGames, And This Is How I Work

Jason Silva is hard to put a label on hes been called a futurist, an idea DJ and a performance philosopher. His popular video series Shots of Awe is a cinematic exploration of science and philosophy, and he also hosts the National Geographic Channels BrainGames.

Theres no doubt Jason has eclectic ideals and aspirations and a unique career path; how has he gone about achieving his diverse accomplishments? We caught up with Jason to learn about his background, his methodology and how he works.

Location: NYC / SF / London / Amsterdam and sometimes Miami. Current Gig: Host of BrainGames TV series on Nat Geo and creator/narrator of Shots of Awe web series / global keynote speaker / futurist One word that best describes how you work: Cognitive ecstasy Current mobile device: iPhone Current computer: MacBook Pro

People started calling me a futurist because I make a lot of content about the idea of the technological singularity where I echo people like Ray Kurzweil and Kevin Kellys ideas about technology and innovation and self organisation. I sort of describe my work as digital DJing because I recombine existing ideas into new modalities of expression, hopefully introducing new audiences to this mind bending stuff.

iTunes for musical inspiration, YouTube and Vimeo for video content and Twitter for serendipitous idea finding.

YouTube is ubiquitous, so a presence there is a must. Vimeo is a more curated audience of artists and designers, so you reach like minds easier. Its nice to be on both platforms when possible.

Carefully considering who to follow is a kind of anticipated serendipity. Using other minds as content filters means that your Twitter stream becomes a digital trail of where these peoples minds have been. You get a glimpse into their wanderings. You also benefit from the shared cognitive bandwidth of many brilliant minds sharing the labour of filtering the endless stream of media for you. And you take the leap of faith that if these people have impressed you with their thinking before, they will do so again through their choice of tweets.

Laptop / music / ultra mobile / hotel rooms. I work out of wherever I am.

Mediocre hotel Wi-Fi can definitely be an issue. I have a laptop connect card just in case that can connect via AT&Ts LTE signal. When travelling internationally you can always depend on the cafe culture to provide ample spaces to sit and people watch and let the wind wander between flurries of email. When shooting Shots of Awe we usually book a place that offers a sense of being somewhere else. My favourite place to shoot Shots of Awe is Amsterdam. The Dutch seem to really have a work/life balance and I love their bicycle universe. AirBNB has transformed travel as well, and those apartments always have great Wi-Fi.

Get enough sleep! You function much better and more efficiently if youre rested.
