Hugh Grant: Newspapers shouldn't be ''marking their own homework''
More than 80 MPs and peers have urged the man carrying out an inquiry into UK media standards not to recommend a press regulation law.
The cross-party group, including eight former cabinet ministers and London Olympics chairman Lord Coe, says any such move would damage press freedom.
Lord Justice Leveson is due to publish his report on Thursday.
The group, which has written to the Guardian and the Daily Telegraph, wants a stronger "self-regulatory" system.
The Leveson Inquiry was established by the prime minister in July last year and looked into the culture, practices and ethics of the press.
It was commissioned following allegations of illegal phone-hacking at the News of the World.
Prime Minister David Cameron, who has already warned politicians not to pre-empt its findings, will receive his copy of the report at lunchtime on Wednesday - 24 hours before its details are made public.

Freedom Area teacher held on drug charges
A Freedom Area schoolteacher was arrested on drug charges Tuesday after a surveillance camera in his office showed him snorting what appeared to be drugs.
James Summers, 41, of Darlington is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and corruption of minors, said New Sewickley police Chief Ronald Leindecker.
According to a news release, Freedom Area Superintendent Jeffrey Fuller conducted an internal investigation of possible misconduct by Mr. Summers and installed a surveillance camera in his office.
The footage showed Mr. Summers inhaling a substance through a tube and in later footage showed him giving the substance to a juvenile to inhale.
Mr. Summers was arraigned Tuesday and given a $200,000 bond. He remained in Beaver County Prison Tuesday evening.

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov 27, 2012) - The Fraser Institute will release the Economic Freedom of North America: 2012 Annual Report on Wednesday, November 28 at 6:30 a.m. (Eastern).
The report compares key indicators of economic freedom for Canadian provinces and U.S. and Mexican states using data from 2010 (most recent year available). Economic freedom represents the ability of individuals and families to make their own economic decisions, free from government interference.
"The link between economic freedom and prosperity is clear: provinces and states that support low taxation, limited government, and flexible labour markets benefit from greater economic growth," said Fred McMahon, Dr. Michael A. Walker Research Chair in Economic Freedom (Fraser Institute) and co-author of the report.
"In contrast, provinces with reduced levels of economic freedom see lower living standards for families and fewer economic opportunities."

Freedom of Information bill finally moves without right of reply provision
The Freedom of Information (FOI) bill is no longer languishing. The House committee on public information approved on Tuesday the FOI bill, but without the controversial "right of reply" provision which many media leaders had been dreading.
The FOI bill seeks to mandate public access to information about government transactions. Some lawmakers had been pushing the "right to reply" as part of the bill, which would legally require media to give the subjects of journalistic reporting equal space or airtime to reply. Critics say that it would infringe on press freedom by enabling government to decide how media space and airtime are used.
The bill had barely moved in a year, despite being a so-called priority of President Aquino, who had campaigned on a promise of government transparency and accountability. The FOI bill became a symbol of that political vow.
The measure still faces an arduous journey before it becomes law, but it has already surmounted a major obstacle posed by congressmen who have expressed heated opposition to giving even more power to the media without added safeguards against abuse.
The FOI bill will now be sent to the plenary for further debates, where it needs to get a majority vote of all House members for it to be approved on second and third readings. In the Senate, the FOI bill is also still subject to plenary debates and is pending on second reading.
Right of reply provision
Before the vote, Nueva Ecija Rep. Rodolfo Antonino, advocate of the right of reply provision, was given almost an hour to explain why the media should be required to publish or air the side of a person involved in an issue which stemmed from information obtained through the FOI bill.
Antonino argued that giving the media unbridled access to information will make politicians more susceptible to demolition jobs.

Freedom Shores Elementary wins Florida Power Library School Award
Freedom Shores Elementary School in Boynton Beach has won the Florida Power Library School Award, which highlights schools with a collaborative approach to improving student achievement.
It is the only school to receive the renewal designation for this award in Palm Beach County.
Based on a Colorado program, the award recognizes schools with libraries that meet specific guidelines for developing or having high performance library media programs.
"We are proud to announce that Freedom Shores was among 11 schools who qualified to have their Florida Power Library Award renewed," said K-12 curriculum director Liz Perlman.
"Congratulations to Michelle Cates, media specialist, Valerie Haines, former principal and Patricia Trejo, current principal. To win the award once and then achieve the renewal speaks to the strength of the program at the school and Michelle's collaboration with the teachers. Launched in the fall of 2008 by the Florida Association for Media in Education and the Florida Department of Education's Library Media Services, the statewide recognition is awarded to schools that involve faculty members in developing and implementing outstanding library media programs focused on student achievement.
Florida Power Library Schools are identified through a competitive application process and must meet certain criteria.
During the three-year award period, FPLS faculty members commit to increasing collaborative teaching and learning, developing an action plan for continued improvement and professional growth and to mentoring other schools in their district and/or region.
Benefits to students include being part of a school culture that emphasizes information and communication technologies.
