Freedom Wars Out Tuesday, Characters & Panopticons Detailed

Hello again Freedom Wars fans! With less than a week to go until Freedom Wars finally hits North America, I wanted to deliver a few more details regarding our awesome cast of characters and Western Panopticons to our English-speaking Sinners out there.

As youve seen through our various trailers, even throughout the multitude of cooperative and competitive modes, the story of Freedom Wars takes center stage. While contributing to society and steadily decreasing that million-year sentence, youll encounter a myriad of interesting, (and might I add stylish) characters, starting with:

And last but not least, your official Panopticon mascot: Percy Propa! Percy is the voice of the Panopticon his job is to relay messages and issue orders to you, although in a very kind, gentle way. Youll often see him appearing on the various screens throughout your home Panopticon, shouting his favorite phrase: For the Greater Good!

Suffice to say, the characters youll encounter in Freedom Wars will help make your experience a very memorable one theyll join you both on and off the battlefield throughout the story as you uncover the truth about the world and discover what freedom truly is.

I also wanted to take a moment and respond to one of the most frequent questions Ive received from fans across the world: Which Panopticons are included in the Western release of the game? Im happy to announce that the Panopticons populating the Western release represent a very international audience we have over 50 locations from around the world that youre free to swear allegiance to at the start of the game:

Pretty great list, huh? I look forward to seeing all of you online next week, battling for the safety and glory of your home Panopticons. For the greater good!

Fight For Your Real-World City In Freedom Wars

Freedom Wars is out next week for PlayStation Vita, and Sony has announced the more than 50 international locations to which you can pledge your allegiance. The co-op title will pit you against monsters and rival prisons at the same time.

The 50 Panopticons are a more international sampling than was found in the Japanese release. Heres the entire list:

In Freedom Wars, you play as a prisoner serving a 1 million year sentence. It can be reduced by fighting hulking monsters and rescuing civilians.

The title is designed for four players, but if you happen to find yourself short, youll be able to sub in AI fighters to assist you. Freedom Wars will be out on October 28 for Vita.

Our TakeI havent had a chance to demo this yet, but the action looks like a more fast-paced Monster Hunter or Soul Sacrifice. Good Vita exclusives are few and far between, which makes me interested in checking this one out sometime soon.

IAPA says freedom of press is deteriorating in the Americas because of censorship, attacks

Published October 21, 2014

SANTIAGO, Chile The Inter American Press Association says freedom of the press has sharply deteriorated in the Americas over the last six months.

The advocacy group blamed a significant increase in censorship and physical attacks on journalists for waning press freedom. The group delivered its conclusion on Tuesday at the end of its 70th General Assembly.

The IAPA said 11 journalists were killed in violence "carried out by organized crime, drug traffic hitmen and police-style groups on the orders of several governments of the region."

Journalists also suffered physical violence in almost every country in the region, including in Bolivia, Brazil and Peru during election coverage, and in the U.S. city of Ferguson, Missouri, and the Brazilian cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro while reporting on street protests.

Freedom shuts out Meadowview

Published 1:04am Saturday, October 18, 2014

The Freedom Academy Cowboys rode in to town and rolled up 511 rushing yards in route to a 54-0 win over Meadowview Christian School, dropping the Trojans to 2-6 on the year.

Meadowview looked to strike early in the game after turning it over on downs when nose guard Dakota Sanders stripped the ball from Freedoms Cam Story giving the Trojans the ball near mid-field. However, Meadowview couldnt capitalize on the turnover going three and out and punting to the Cowboys.

Freedom got on track on the next possession, mounting a six-play drive punctuated by a 42-yard touchdown run by Story. The 2-point try failed putting Freedom up 6-0.

Following another three and out by the Trojans, Sanders punted and pinned the Cowboys (4-2) deep in their own territory, but after five straight running plays that gained 53-yards, Aaron Gokmen raced 45-yards for a TD. The two-point conversion put the Cowboys up 14-0.

Another Meadowview three and out led to a Freedom 7-play, 85-yard drive capped by Jonny Krzyminskis 5-yard TD run. The PAT failed and the Cowboys were up 20-0. The Cowboys added two more TDs and led going into the half, 32-0.

We just got beat by a better team that was stronger than us and more physical than us, said Trojan head coach Lebo Jones. They were running off tackle and pulling guards and we just couldnt stop them. We got outcoached and outplayed.

Meadowview put together a good drive coming out of the half moving the ball 37-yards before a fumbled pitch gave Freedom the ball. Meadowview held on defense, but wound up punting the ball back to Freedom.

Freedom added three more TDs on runs by Sammy Reynolds, Krzyminski and Ryan Wells.

I thought we played better the second half, but we just couldnt put a drive together, Jones said, adding that he thought Shelby York played well on defense and Justin McGuire played well on offense.

Freedom Rider remembers civil rights movement

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

It's been 50 years since President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law. One of the people who played a role in making that happen spoke at ETSU on Monday.

When Hank Thomas stood up to speak, he started singing songs of freedom.

"Things are wonderful in this country now that I can truly say 'My Country, 'Tis Of Thee' and 'God Bless America'," he said.

In May of 1961, however, there was a much different tone.

"I may be in this university but I certainly would not be welcomed," said Thomas. "The law of the land as far as the South was concerned, every time I got aboard a bus, whether a municipal bus or an interstate bus, I was supposed to go to the back of the bus."

Thomas decided to board a bus in Washington D.C. that was headed to Louisiana to fight for desegregation. He was only 19-years-old and a sophomore at Howard University.

Thomas became one of seven "Freedom Riders" on board that bus.

When the bus got to the Alabama border, a mob was waiting. Thomas told us the crowd disabled the bus by slashing the tires.

"The bus driver could not drive the bus any further and all the windows of the bus were broken out," said Thomas. "The bus driver got off the bus and really ran for his life but we were able to lock the door so they could not get in."
