Using movement and dance to increase wellbeing for people affected by dementia ISLAND Community Arts in partnership with Lagan Valley Hospital, Ward 11-Psychiatry of Old Age South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust Anthea McWilliams -professional dance practitioner has brought art to the community visiting residents with dementia at Lagan Valley Hospital over a 6 week period. Anthea has delivered a range of quality arts activities stimulating participants and improving their quality of life. Carers and families got fully involved in the workshops and noticed a vast improvement in their loved ones mental and physical well being. Not only did the patients enjoy the activities but staff at the hospital acquired new skills in arts based activities.

Dead Space: A Journey Through Terror Part 1 of 4 - Isaac Clarke #39;s Journey
A systems engineer on a team responding to a distress call onboard the USG Ishimura, his life changes forever when they discover the Necromorphs - hideous and deadly creatures reconstructed from the dead crew members. Isaac tries to rescue the Ishimura #39;s survivors, including his girlfriend Nicole with whom he communicates several times, only to discover that she took her own life prior to his arrival on the ship. A religious artefact known as the Marker had manipulated his mind. Isaac eventually escapes the Necromorph outbreak intact, but is left broken and heavy with guilt over Nicole #39;s death. Three years later Isaac awakens from stasis on a huge station orbiting Titan, Saturn #39;s largest moon. Unfortunately for him, he awakens in the midst of yet another Necromorph outbreak. Thelatest form of an experimental cut-up/ #39;magick #39; work/art project that I started way back in 2005. The initial edit was done with two VCRs and a crappy dvd player. I then transferred it to computer and am doing additional editing and remixing using software. The titles of the clips were given after all the editing and mixing were done. Most of the content is very random and chaotic. I wanted it to have that element of chance involved in its creation because that #39;s when the #39;magic #39; happens. It #39;s inspired by William Burroughs #39; style of cut-up writing (Naked Lunch) which David Bowie later incorporated into his lyric-writing. Not many know that Burroughs was into occult magick and Bowie also dabbled. Burroughs #39; apprentice in magick was Genesis P. Orridge of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV, the grandfather of industrial music. In a way, this is also supposed to be a form of industrial video rather than industrial music ( I #39;m talking about the original, dirty, raw, sample-based experimentation).

Melbourne,Fla.cop Derek Middendorf-beats kicks elderly man. Police Brutality
MELBOURNE, Fla -- Tazed in the face and sent to hospital. The family of an elderly Melbourne with dementia man says they plan on suing the police department -- all over a violent confrontation that was caught on camera. The dash camera video shows 66-year-old Albert Flowers being kicked by Melbourne officer Derek Middendorf back in October. Flowers was also punched repeatedly, and another officer used a stun gun to shoot him in the face. Police reports said the officer was investigating a call about an argument at the time. Officer Middendorf said Flowers was acting aggressively and refused to stop at a safe distance. But the man #39;s family said they #39;re horrified and that the officer went too far. "I know he has a job to do, but when you take it above and beyond after being warned that he has dementia when you are warning that he has dementia and be brutal like that it #39;s criminal," said Flowers #39; son Carlos. News 13 contacted Melbourne Police. They referred us to a spokesperson for the city who said because no complaint has been filed yet, they have nothing to respond to. They do say though the officer turned off his camera before the incident - but the video was still able to be retrieved from a hard drive. A hearing is set for Wednesday. Meanwhile, the city says Officer Middendorf is still employed with the police department, but is currently off the job after an unrelated injury - 15 January 2012
