Tito Ortiz on Cyborg-Rousey superfight, PEDs, relationship with Dana White, coming out of retirement and more

If his 12-year tenure in the UFC's light heavyweight division proved anything, it's that Tito Ortiz is not a timid man. Ortiz, a former champion and current UFC Hall of Famer, was never one to shy away from a hot microphone, regardless of the consequences.

That penchant for honestly landed Ortiz in hot water on more than one occasion, especially with the higher-ups at Zuffa. Although retirement may have mellowed the former "Huntington Beach Bad Boy," Ortiz's ability to say exactly what is on his mind often made him a fan favorite, and it is still present.

Appearing on Monday episode of The MMA Hour, Ortiz riffed on a number of wide-ranging topics, from his efforts to secure a Cris Cyborg vs. Ronda Rousey superfight and thoughts on retirement, to the prevalence of PEDs in MMA and his current relationship with Dana White. The following are excerpts from that conversation:

On a potential Ronda Rousey vs. Cyborg Santos superfight:

"Working with Cyborg is challenging. The girl wants to fight, of course, but it's just a question with her getting down to 145 [pounds]. She really feels it's impossible. She walks around 160, 165, and to make 145 for all the years she's done it, she's like, Tito, it really takes the last energy just for me to make 145. Now they want me to cut down to 135? It's going to be really, really, almost impossible.' I battle back and forth with her, telling her how the UFC is going to take care of her, this and that. We're still just ... we're at the end of the rope, I think. I'm not sure if she wants to do it. Me and my partner, George Prajin, we just sit there and we just try to talk to her over and over again.

"Will she make 135? As a person who has cut weight for 22 years: no, I don't think it's going to happen. It's hard for women to cut that much weight. For a woman to be three-percent body fat, it's not healthy. She talks about that she wants to have kids some day. Things like that can damage her [in that regard], and a lot of people don't understand that. This is not a man we're talking about. This is a woman we're talking about. For Ronda to cut down the weight, yeah, she had a lot of extra weight on her.

"[Cyborg] doesn't have much on her. She used to walk around at 170 and she lost some muscle mass just to try to see if she can get lower in this weight to do it. So far, so good. Like I said, she's 160, 165. She bounces back around there. She says she stopped lifting weights the way she does and really just [been] focusing on her jiu-jitsu. She's been training, putting in the time.

"I hope I can put this fight together, man. I'm trying my hardest. I hope Dana [White] understands. I hope Dana is listening to this and understands. I'm trying to get this thing together."

On Ronda Rousey and the UFC women's division:

"I think it should be more about the women's division in general, than about one person. Ronda's fought maybe, what, five times now? Or only five times now? To do that to somebody, it just shows disrespect towards all the other women fighters that are in that weight class.

Color-Blind Man Is Now A Cyborg Who Can Hear Color

When Neil Harbisson was a kid, he could only see in black and white.

In fact, he wasn't totally convinced that colors actually existed.

But now, Harbisson can sense color.

He still can't see colors. But now he can hear them with a device he helped create in 2004 called the Eyeborg.

The device can detect 360 colors the human eye can normally perceive. It also detects infrared light.

"Hearing colors changes the way you see everything," Harbisson says in a Cyborg Foundation video.

Harbisson says he finds the sounds generated by colors in supermarkets "stimulating."

He also turns music, like Justin Bieber's "Baby," for example, into vibrant paintingstranslating the sounds of the song back into the colors he's learned to associate with them.

Harbisson says that he is the first legally recognized cyborg in the world, as his passport photo shows him with the Eyeborg attached to his head.

"It's not the union between the Eyeborg and my head what converts me to a cyborg," Harbisson says. It's "the union between the software and my brain. My body and technology have united."

Mike Dolce Confident Cris Cyborg Will Be Better at 135lbs; Believes She Beats Ronda Rousey Any Day

There have been more than just a few questions about Cris Cyborg Santos and her possible move down to 135 pounds for a chance to fight in the UFC and to face women's champ Ronda Rousey.

When recently appearing on UFC Tonight, former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz, who serves as one of Cyborg's MMA managers, commented that he knows a cut to 135 pounds for the former Strikeforce champion would be awfully rough. He even mentioned the possibility of a warm-up fight for Cyborg once she makes the move and debuts in the UFC before facing Rousey with the championship on the line.

The man that will be in charge of getting Cyborg down to 135 pounds will be famed MMA nutritionist and weight cutting guru Mike Dolce, and he's excited for the challenge and the chance to start working with a high-level athlete like Santos.

I have every intention of working with Cris Cyborg once her UFC contract is finalized. Right now we're circling the drain, we're waiting for the go ahead, but Cris she's been on vacation in Brazil. If she was here in the United States, she and I already would have been working together. So she'll be back, her contract will be signed hopefully soon, and as soon as she has a date and an opponent, then it's game on, I will be working with Cris Cyborg, Dolce told MMAWeekly.com this week.

Dolce has a history of working with fighters either making a move to a new weight class for the first time, or helping previously troubled athletes cut weight more effectively and in a healthier manner than just sweating it out in a sauna.

He believes his track record is proof enough that he could get Cyborg down to 135 pounds in a healthy way, and she'd be as good at that weight as she ever was in her previous weight class of 145 pounds.

There's a couple ways to answer and the first way is going to be a little less than humble I'm the only guy in the world that can get Cris Cyborg on weight and healthy. I only say that because I have the history. I'm only going to point to my resume when you look at Rampage (Jackson). Rampage was 260 pounds when he came into the fight with Lyoto Machida. He came out there and made 205 pounds easily and he beat Machida. Johny Hendricks is 215 pounds, started working with me, he's beat (Jon) Fitch, (Josh) Koscheck and (Martin) Kampmann. Johny probably is the biggest welterweight in the UFC, and he's destined to be a world champion. Thiago Alves, Chael Sonnen was 233 pounds six weeks before the Michael Bisping fight in Chicago, Dolce explained.

Nobody can say that any of my athletes ever look unhealthy or ever underperform as a result of their weight cut.

Dolce had a chance to meet with Cyborg in Los Angeles before she traveled home to Brazil recently, and he knows the kind of unlocked potential she has inside. He hopes to have the key to unleash the beast, and make Cyborg the best 135-pound fighter on the planet.

She'll be 135 pounds, it will be the healthiest she's been her entire career, and it will be the best performance of her entire career or I would not have taken the job. I can't risk having an athlete underperform as a result of a weight cut. I would never jeopardize an athlete's health. A lot of athletes come to me and they want me to help them drop a weight class or two, and I've turned a lot of huge names down because it's just not safe, it's not healthy, said Dolce.
