After several arguments about weight divisions and tuneup matches, Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos is taking her ball and asking to go home.
That's the latest development in negotiations for a once-potential UFC superfight between Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg, according to a recent episode of Inside MMAon AXS TV.
As relayed via Cyborg's manager, former UFC champion Tito Ortiz, the first (and only) Strikeforce women's featherweight champion is no longer interested in working for the UFC.
To that effect, she has reportedly asked for her early release from the promotion:
Right now, we're actually waiting for [the] UFC to release [Cyborg]. We asked for them to release her, so Dana White actually talked to me yesterday. They gave an offer, I went to Cyborg and she said she didn't want to do itand we just asked for her release.
Since [the UFC] isn't doing a 145-pound weight class, what else can they do? Now, she's going to be released. Maybe we'll go look somewhere else and you can see Cyborg crush another woman's face in.
Inside MMAhost Bas Rutten immediately inquired whether or not Invicta FCwould be a possible destination for Cyborg, as the all-female MMA promotion currently hosts a healthy featherweight division.
Ortiz noted that the UFC's intent was to offer Cyborg a "huge deal," but she specifically wanted a three-fight deal with a fourth fight against Rousey at a 140-pound catchweight.
However, UFC president Dana White had previously stated that match would only happen at 135 poundsrequiring a weight drop that Ortiz says would permanently harm Cyborg's health.

Cris Cyborg Asks for Release from UFC, Abandons Ronda Rousey Superfight
Everybody wants to see former Strikeforce champions Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg Santos fight, but as the days dwindle on, it looks less and less likely that its ever going to happen.
Things have devolved to the point that UFC Hall of Famer and current Cyborg manager Tito Ortiz on Friday night told Inside MMA that his client has asked to be released from her contract.
Cyborg was one of the fighters under contract with Zuffa, LLC when the UFC assimilated the Strikeforce roster. Zuffa, LLC is the parent company of both promotions, so Cyborgs contract carried over to the UFC.
The problem is, Cyborg was the 145-pound champion and often struggled to make weight in that division. Rousey is the UFCs first 135-pound womens champion and neither she nor the UFC appear to want her to fight outside of that class anytime soon.
Cyborg, according to Ortiz, is willing to do the fight, but only at a catchweight of 140 pounds.
The UFC seems unwilling to do that, at least not yet. Cyborg is unhappy with the UFCs alternative offer, which Ortiz said includes the possibility of her remaining under contract, but then fighting for Invicta FC, the burgeoning all-womens mixed martial arts promotion.
UFC wanted to sign a huge deal with Cris Cyborg, but they wanted to stick her over in Invicta. It didnt make sense to me, said Ortiz on Inside MMA.
I talked to Cyborg time and time again, asked her and asked her. She said I would love to do a three-fight deal; fourth fight would be against Ronda. Lets get it done at 140, not be a fight for the 135-pound championship, he continued.
For her to get down to 135 pounds is physically impossible, for a woman. For a man its different because we have more water weight to take off. For Cris Cyborg to get down to that weight, shes going to be three to four percent bodyfat.
Ive talked to her. She wants to start a family later on; she wants to have kids. Family is what its truly about.

Mad Catz has been making gaming headsets for a few years, but mostly products under its Tritton brand with products like the Tritton AX 180. Cyborg, previously known as Saitek Cyborg, was always a brand for PC and gaming peripherals, not audio products. The Mad Catz Cyborg F.R.E.Q. 5 is surprising not only because it's a Cyborg-branded gaming headset, but because it's a very well-made one with excellent bass response. At $149.99 (direct) it's expensive for a wired stereo headset for the PC and Mac, and its high-end suffers because of the powerful bass. But its great build quality, easy setup, and smartphone compatibility make it a solid choice if you don't mind spending some cash.
DesignThe headset is solid without feeling uncomfortable, consisting of "tough yet lightweight" (but unidentified) metal components, including a sturdy headband and light, matte arms connecting the cups. The white plastic shell and rubber and foam padding give the headset enough bulk to make it easy to handle without sitting too heavily on the head. The earcups turn to face flat and the microphone is flexible, but otherwise the headset isn't particularly portable. The earcups are vaguely pierogi-shaped, and fit comfortably around my large ears.
Like most other gaming headsets, the F.R.E.Q. 5 has controls on the earcups. The right earcup holds a volume wheel tucked on the lower side, and the left earcup holds microphone mute and equalizer buttons. The mute button turns on a light on the microphone itself so you know it's muted, which is slightly counterintuitive (you'd expect an active mic to have a light and a muted mic to be dark or blinking). The equalizer button toggles between Gaming, Music, and Chat equalizer presets.
SetupFor a gaming headset, the F.R.E.Q. 5 is easy to set up. It has a short cable with a mini USB connection on the end, which can then be connected to a two-meter cable with a full USB connection for hooking it up to your computer or a one-meter cable with a 3.5mm audio connection. The connector supports smartphones, and you can use the headset for phone calls as well as listening to music or playing mobile games. It doesn't work with game consoles, but the smartphone support on top of the PC support makes it a very useful headset.
The F.R.E.Q. 5 uses 50mm drivers in each earcup, quite large for gaming headsets. It's a stereo headset, so there's only one driver in each ear and you don't get any simulated surround sound. But this isn't a problem, as even surround-sound headsets with discrete drivers offer poor surround imaging compared to a speaker system. Without the acoustics to get directional audio sources to bounce around, you can't get a sense of direction that's particularly better than a well-tuned stereo headset.
PerformanceI used the F.R.E.Q. 5 to play some Team Fortress 2, and I was generally satisfied with the sound quality. The three equalizer settings sound suitably different, with Chat bringing out dialog and Gaming bringing out bass. However, there's no easy way to see which equalizer setting you're on; the settings are flipped through with a button, and there are no visual or audio cues besides the game sounding slightly different in each mode. When playing, I tapped the button until I noticed the bass pump up to get a sense of the Gaming feature. Explosions sounded loud and full, but treble and dialog sounded a bit fuzzy. Chat and Music offered a flatter bass response, and more importantly a better sense of team chat thanks to more prominent treble (in Chat) and midrange (in Music). The microphone works very well for voice chat and phone calls. My voice came through clearly in a test phone call, and the mic picked up everything I said through the computer.
The equalizer settings don't seem to work with the 3.5mm cord and a smartphone, but the F.R.E.Q. 5 still sounds very good. Queen's "Seven Seas of Rye" brought out very clear and natural piano sound in the intro, and while the vocals were overcome by the drums and guitar, it was still easy to make out the lyrics (and some equalizer setting changes on my phone brought them out further with some treble boosting). Our bass test track, The Knife's "Silent Shout," was reproduced with heavy bass that didn't distort at maximum volume, a credit to the headset's robust 50mm drivers. Overwhelming bass is unsurprising on a gaming headset, where explosions and action scenes are the emphasis over music playback. But the F.R.E.Q. 5 is still capable as a cell phone headset or media player headphonesif not $150 audiophile-quality headphones capable, if you were to spend as much on a dedicated, mic-free, non-gaming headset.
For a wired, stereo gaming headset, the Mad Catz Cyborg F.R.E.Q. 5 is a flexible and powerful-sounding accessory for your PC or Mac, with the added and rare benefit of being able to use it with your smartphone (even if it is too bulky to wear on the subway without looking ridiculous). Its $150 price tag is hefty, but justifiable if you want a high-quality PC gaming headset that doubles as a smartphone headset. If you don't mind taking a hit in audio quality for the convenience of wireless audio, the Skullcandy PLYR 2 headset is $20 less.

SMITHSONIAN CHANNEL(TM) EXCLUSIVE U.S. BROADCASTER OF STORY BEHIND BIONIC MAN UNVEILED TODAY AT LONDON SCIENCE MUSEUM
CYBORG/FRANKENSTEIN TO PREMIERE IN OCTOBER ON SMITHSONIAN CHANNEL
New York, February 7, 2013 - The London Science Museum unveiled to the public today a complete 'bionic man,' which was built from $1 million-worth of state-of-the-art limbs and organs - the products of billions of dollars of research - borrowed from some of the world's leading laboratories and manufacturers.
Smithsonian Channel is the exclusive U.S. television home to the story and will premiere the two-hour special CYBORG/FRANKENSTEIN this October. It will also be bringing the bionic man to the States to go on display to the public.
CYBORG/FRANKENSTEIN follows psychologist Bertolt Meyer, who has a bionic hand himself, as he meets scientists working at the cutting edge of research to find out just how far this new technology can go.
The bionic man was built by leading UK roboticists Richard Walker and Matthew Godden from Shadow Robot. It uses artificial body parts designed by scientists around the world, including a spleen-on-a-chip from Yale University and a kidney from the University of California, San Francisco.
In the two centuries since Mary Shelley's Dr. Frankenstein brought his 'monster' to life, the subject has fascinated science fiction in books, comics, film and TV. From Star Wars' Darth Vader to Robocop, and from Dr. Who's Cybermen to Blade Runner's replicants, most stories focus on the potentially dire consequences of 'playing God.'
Now, thanks to research on advanced prosthetic arms and legs, as well as artificial eyes, hearts and lungs - and even hybrids between computer chips and living brains - scientists can finally replace body parts and even improve on human abilities.
CYBORG/FRANKENSTEIN is a Darlow Smithson Production for Smithsonian Channel and Channel 4 in association with Endemol Worldwide Distribution and The Welcome Trust.

"Cyborg/Frankenstein" to Premiere in October on Smithsonian Channel
The two experts behind a new Channel 4 show about a 'bionic' man admit they were spooked by some of what they saw - including cyborgs made by the U.S. Army.
One presenter was perturbed by experiments where chips were inserted in the brains of living rats, to 'enhance' their memory.
The U.S. military's 'mad scientist' wing DARPA is developing humanoid robots which 'look like The Terminator', says the robot expert who makes a working hand for the programme.
Both experts say that a future where living flesh and computer chips become one will arrive "sooner" than we expect.
The expert duo both believe the billions spent researching and developing bionic technology is a force for good - but the technology have negative outcomes if created for the wrong reasons.
Show presenter Bertolt admits he was perturbed by experiments placing chips in the brains of rats to enhance their memory, : "What I took from the programme is that a future in which we have bionic technology that will go beyond evolutionary limits is more possible and will take place sooner than I believed.
"When it comes to fears about augmenting human capabilities above evolutional boundaries, I can understand these fears as I share them. Technological advances are neither good or bad it is the way we use them and make them available. There will be an issue if the proliferation is solely driven by business."
But he said: "As long as this technology is made to replace functionality that has been lost there is no reason to be afraid. It helps level out the negative consequences of disability, disease and illness."
Rich, the CEO of Shadow Robot, which helped build the $1m bionic man featured in the programme's title, agreed although he admitted work done by the American defence body DARPA had spooked him.
He said: "When you see the show there are one or two sequences of stuff being developed by DARPA which are actually really scary. Humanoid robots that look like something out of Terminator and those do worry me. Equally, I am heartened at the same time that DARPA has put a couple of hundred million dollars into the development of newer and better prosthetics."

Stick a fork in it, folks. Negotiations for a UFC superfight between Ronda Rousey and Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino seem to be done for now.
Unfortunately, the two top-ranked female MMA fighters in the world haven't been able to agree on a set weight, as the massively-muscled Cyborg has continually states that a 140-pound limit is as low as she can physically go.
That's not good enough for UFC president Dana White.
White, a firm supporter of Rousey, recently confirmed to MMA Junkie that while he's still interested in making this fight happen, Cyborg likely won't be fighting for a title if Rousey meets her at a 140-pound catchweight:
It's not a title fight. If that's what [Cyborg] is willing to do is go to 140, let's let Ronda defend her title a few times and see if Ronda wants to go to 140. If I know Ronda, she probably would anyway, so let's see what happens. But if [Cyborg] wants to fight for a title and have a title fight, she has to go to 135 pounds.
A fight at 140 would be a fan fight because everybody wants to see it, but it's not one of those fights that makes sense.
White's stance effectively kills a superfight between Rousey and Cyborg, although, it remains to be seen if the Brazilian will attempt to cut down to the 135-pound bantamweight limit.
It may be possible, as White previously toldTATAMEthat famed MMA nutritionist Mike Dolce could possibly get Cyborg to trim the 10 pounds.
For her part, Cyborg and her trainer, Tito Ortiz, don't seem to like this turn of events.
Taking to Instagram in response to White's claims (via UFC Tonight)that Cyborg wanted "nothing" to do with Rousey, the former Strikeforce featherweight queen called her rival a "bitch,"challenging her to "step up" to 140 pounds.

Dana White: Cyborg vs. Ronda Rousey UFC Title Fight 'Has to Go to 135 Pounds'
Every time your phone buzzes, you reflexively reach to check on it, soothing it back to sleep like some sort of weird pocket-baby. Through social media, we receive tiny snippets of information about our friends and familys lives, without ever having to be physically near them. And who hasnt stayed up until 3 a.m. chasing pictures of high school friends across Facebook, only to have a fitful night of sleep when we finally doze off?
These experiences and concepts arent new, but our language for describing technology hasnt necessarily kept pace with our experience of using technology.
With her new Illustrated Dictionary of Cyborg Anthropology, Amber Case has set out to put words to those experiences to help introduce terms like panic architecture, ambient awareness, and junk sleep to a wider audience. Also, there are pictures.
At 26, Case is something of a wunderkind. The location-based platform she co-founded, Geoloqi, was recently acquired by geo-planning giant Esri; shes keynoted at SXSW and tech conferences worldwide, given a TED talk, and was recently awarded a $10,000 National Geographic Emerging Explorer award. In her speeches, Case focuses on the intersection of humans and technology.
Tools in the beginning were an extension of our physical selves, and now we have tools that are extensions of mental self, Case explained in her National Geographic speech. A hammer is an extension of a fist but our Facebook profile is an extension of our self, and moreover, other people can interact with that self when were not around. Were cyborgs, as Case sees it, and in order to understand the brave new world in which we find ourselves, we need a language to talk about it.
After writing her college anthropology thesis on the effects of widespread mobile telephone use (The Cell Phone and Its Technosocial Sites of Engagement), Case started the website cyborganthropology.com as a resource for articles and essays on how humans interact with machines and technology.
When you first get really into a computer and use it as a tool, your brain wires itself to whatevers on the machine, Case told Wired. So you feel pain if someone doesnt like your status on Facebook, and you feel a psychological boost, like social grooming from afar, when you get a like, When a company that owns a site changes it on you suddenly, its like someone going into your house and changing the height of the cupboards and moving everything around slightly. Its very disorienting.
But while everyone has had similar experiences of frustration and satisfaction, the technology itself is neutral, Case insists, and its only when acted upon by an external force like a human that it can be used for good or evil. Theres an entire spectrum of ways that people can experience technology, and things that can happen because of it. Broadening the discussion is important. If you talk about it in a neutral way or an accessible way, you dont alienate people.
It also helps if there are adorable pictures. For The Illustrated Dictionary of Cyborg Anthropology, she partnered with artist Maggie Wauklyn to cull 50 of the topics on her site down to one-page definitions, each paired with one of Nichols cheerful watercolor illustrations. Some of the terms are footnoted and reference other thinkers in the field; other terms were coined by Case herself. It needed to be a book that people could dip into and dip out of quickly, says Case. And it couldnt be intimidating, so it has a friendly robot on the cover.
You could extend each of these into a 45-minute discussion or an entire research paper, she explains. The idea that this is just an appetizer. Have fun with it. Read it in the bathroom or discuss it with your kids. Think of it as a starting point for how you understand the world around you, and how things are changing.
