Cyborg expects to fight Jindrova for Lion Fight’s muay thai title

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Cris Cyborg has made a successful return to muay thai rings with a third-round TKO victory over previously undefeated Jennifer Colomb on Sept. 20 in Las Vegas, Nev., and she plans to compete again at Lion Fight.

"I love to fight," Cyborg told MMAFighting.com. "When Im not fighting MMA, I always enter jiu-jitsu and wrestling tournaments. Whatever Im doing outside of MMA, helps me to evolve my MMA game. I started fighting in muay thai, but then I moved to MMA because of the lack of events, but now I expect to keep fighting in both MMA and muay thai."

Cyborg was set to meet with Martina Jindrova (17-5) at Lion Fight 11, but the Czech Republic native was forced to withdraw from the event with an injury and replaced by Colomb. According to the Brazilian, she is in talks with the promotion to meet Jindrova in a title fight.

"She still wants to fight me, and I believe we will fight," she said. "I believe I will fight her for Lion Fights title soon. (Jindrova) has many titles, and I will be happy to fight for one more belt."

Before her return to the muay thai rings, Cyborg expects to be part of Invicta FCs next event on Dec. 7, but she doesnt know if her featherweight title will be on the line.

"My next fight will be in December," she said. "They have asked me if I can fight in a heavier division, but thats not set yet. They are still looking for an opponent, but I have to fight now because thats the last fight of my contract and I have to fight this year. I want to fight, and I want to stay active, so I hope they find someone to fight me."

Cris Cyborg: 'Ronda Rousey is a little mentally sick'

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Ronda Rousey was worried about how the fans would see her on the current season of The Ultimate Fighter, and her long-time rival Cris Cyborg is surprised with what she has seen.

Invicta FCs featherweight champion believes the mental aspect could be a decisive factor in Rouseys second title defense in the UFC against Miesha Tate on Dec. 28, and that Tate would have the advantage.

"Ronda is a little mentally sick," Cyborg told MMAFighting.com. "Miesha is more focused. I dont know if thats because Ronda is younger, more competitive. The mental aspect can affect her, but what makes you win inside the Octagon is training. The better prepared fighter will win."

Rousey has submitted Tate in their first fight in Strikeforce, but Cyborg hopes that the challenger has learned the lesson.

"Everybody knows what Ronda does and I believe Miesha will come more prepared this time," she said. "Unfortunately, everybody knows what shell do and still let her do it. Im watching the TUF season, and I believe Miesha has more weapons to defeat Ronda. But I dont really care who wins this fight, though."

Rouseys division is 10 pounds lighter than Justinos, but the Brazilian still wants to fight the judo specialist.

"The only thing stopping this fight to happen now is the weight, but I dont care about the belt," she said. "I want to this fight for the fans in a catchweight because she used to fight in my division and then dropped. Id fight her (in the UFC) and then return to my home, Invicta."

Cyborg is managed by Tito Ortiz, and the former UFC champion doesnt have a good relationship with UFC president Dana White. However, the muay thai specialist believes that wouldnt be enough to keep her away from the Octagon.

"If I keep knocking people out, nothing will hide what Im doing," she said. "(Dana White) wont stop me. Every MMA fan wants to watch to see me in the UFC. Im happy at Invicta FC, and I want to represent Invicta FC in the UFC. The more I grow, they wont be able to protect Ronda from me anymore."

Cyborg Astrobiologist Put Through its Paces in West Virginian Coalfields

Astrobiologists are overwhelmed by the huge volume of images from other planets. Now they have help in the form of a system that automatically identifies objects of interest in geological images

The search for life on other planets is hotting up. The seemingly endless train of Mars rovers have found convincing evidence of a warmer and wetter climate on Mars. The Huygens and Cassini spacecraft have found lakes, beaches, rivers and rain on Titan (albeit of the the oily variety). And Europas dark, warm ocean looks increasingly inviting for astrobiologists.

Then there are the ever-increasing hordes of exoplanets in the habitable zones around other stars. Its never been a better time to be an astrobiologist.

One problem that this new breed of scientist faces is data overload. Each image from Mars has to be pored over by a human expert before the rovers next move can be planned and executed.

And since these images are increasingly numerous, this is a time consuming task. So a way to automate the classification of these images, at least partially, would be hugely useful.

Step forward Patrick McGuire at the Freie Universitt in Berlin, Germany and a few pals who have built and tested an automated system that does just this. They call their new system the cyborg astrobiologist.

The new system is relatively simple. It consists of a Samsung Propel smartphone, which has a camera capable of taking 1280 x 960 pixel images, connected by bluetooth to a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. For the moment, it requires a human helper to carry and point the camera but its not hard to imagine how the system could be fitted to an autonomous rover.

The phone takes photos of the terrain as it moves around, sending them it to the laptop for analysis. This where the clever part takes place.

The laptop analyses each photo by comparing it earlier images it has received and looking for similarities between them. It analyses the colour of the scene and the texture to calculate a similarity score.
