Ryan Reynolds eviscerates ‘Green Lantern’ and teases the Snyder Cut in the viral Reynolds Cut of his superhero bomb – Yahoo Sports

Green Lantern may have been treated like a joke by critics and audiences when it hit theaters in 2011, but Ryan Reynolds has made it a point to have the last laugh. Rather than hide from the movies failure, the star has cheekily embraced its status as a superhero also-ran, regularly poking fun at DCs Emerald Knight on social media and in his hit Marvel franchise, Deadpool. With Zack Snyder currently hard at work on the #SnyderCut version of Justice League for HBO Max, Reynolds took to Twitter to premiere the Reynolds Cut of Green Lantern.

Where the Snyder Cut will expand the two-hour theatrical version of Justice League which was taken over by Joss Whedon after Snyder left the film into a three-and-a-half-hour behemoth, the Reynolds Cut reduces Green Lanterns 123-minute runtime to a mere 27 seconds. Opening with a post-credits gag from Deadpool 2, where the time-traveling Merc with a Mouth shoots Reynolds before he can even suit up as Green Lantern, Reynoldss preferred version of the film speeds through his alter egos tragic origin story and his initiation into the galactic Green Lantern Corps. In a major plot twist, the Reynolds Cuts big climax reveals that Tom Cruise has been playing GL all along. That may prove prescient: its been a longtime rumor that Warner Bros. would like to enlist the Mission: Impossible star to headline a Green Lantern reboot.

Speaking of Snyder, the Reynolds Cut ties Green Lantern into Justice League continuity. The film ends with a tableau shot of the core JL team Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, The Flash and Cyborg regarding their newest applicant. Its worth noting that the Green Lantern Corps did play a role in the theatrical version of Justice League, and Snyder supposedly had additional plans for the character... plans that may or may not involve Reynolds.

If the Reynolds Cut really is a stealth preview for the Snyder Cut as well as being a funny gag Twitter is on board.

In brightest day, in blackest night, no chance to make fun of Green Lantern shall escape Ryan Reynoldss sight.

You’ve beaten Half-Life: Alyx, now what? More great VR games to try – GameCrate

If youre one of the million or so people that bought a VR headset to experience Valves long-awaited return to the Half-Life franchise then youre probably wondering, what do I play next?

Good question. Theres a good mix of high profile and indie games worth your time if you enjoyed Alyx and Ill be making some recommendations on where to go next once youre ready to venture beyond City-17.

For more VR content, check out Newegg's VR Central.

This is closer to the Portal side of the Valve spectrum with its sharp humor, exploration, and puzzle-solving sprinkled with a dash of combat. You find yourself sucked into a parallel universe and a sprawling underground research lab. You find the corridors and offices of the Planck Interdimensional Quantum Reactor are overrun with homicidal security robots and all manner of hostile aliens.

Youll have to make your way through the facility ala Half-Life and reach the surface if you ever want to get back home. Everything from the UI to the gameplay is tight and youll want to scour over every level so you dont miss a gag or hidden bit of quantum juice (used for upgrades).

Zach Tsiakalis-Brown, a Valve alum and just 20-years-old, is the head of Zulubo Studios and shows incredible promise already in his body of work. He even produced the very excellent soundtrack for the game. Brown announced last summer that Vertigo 2 is in the works and slated for 2020. You can play a demo of the sequel here.

This needs almost no introduction as youve likely heard of the highly acclaimed sci-fi action shooter. If not, heres the run-down. You step into the shoes of a security administrator for the shadowy Monogon corporation. Youll dive into their virtual operating system to uncover a dark secret hidden within. There are also lots of guns in there, for some reason.

While its a bit light on story the gunplay is bar-none one of the most impressive demonstrations of how far VR has come. Once the muscle memory kicks in youll be dual-wielding Glocks and blasting through enemies like a virtual John Wick. References to Half-Life are made throughout, complete with crowbars and robotic headcrabs.

Be sure to check out the studios other very impressive offerings like the nostalgic and surreal Duck Season and the flat out fun of Hover Junkers.

While not a sci-fi game this is one of the current must-have titles if youre a headset owner. There are plenty of zombie games in VR but no other manages to blend survival, crafting, fighting, and exploration as well as Saints and Sinners.

You play as the tourist in a flooded, zombie-infested New Orleans. Two factions are locked in a bloody conflict over the reserve, a hidden cache of weapons and supplies. You start with next to nothing and as you complete quests and explore the city, youll gradually work your way up the food chain to become the ultimate survivor.

No other game quite nails the feeling of jamming a kitchen knife through a walkers rotting face. With a decent length campaign and a fantastic arcade mode, you owe it to yourself to have this in your library.

Red Matter follows the tried-and-true explore the abandoned lab trope of gaming to the hilt. While feeling familiar it does an amazing job of guiding players through exploration and puzzles. As you dive into the top-secret research facility you descend deeper and deeper into a reality-bending conspiracy.

The dystopian retro-futuristic cold war setting will delight any fans of Papers, Please, or Metro: 2033. The mosaics and propaganda posters celebrating the fictional Volgravia feel authentic and dont approach parody. The developers clearly took the time to do their homework and make their world feel real.

While the controls feel a bit tanky its well worth your time and money.

Similar to Red Matter, Into the Radius plays into the dystopian themes of post-Soviet Europe. Directly inspired by the legendary sci-fi movie Stalker, as well as the games spun off from the film, Into the Radius takes players to a familiar world but one still full of surprises.

You wake up with no memory and a disembodied voice guiding you deeper into the mysterious Pechorsk radius. An asteroid strike has warped the fabric of reality around the zone, leaving behind strange anomalies and other-worldly creatures.

Youll scavenge for supplies and artifacts to upgrade your equipment as you explore fascinating and unnerving landscapes. While the core gameplay loop is relatively simple there are hours of exploration and combat to be had. Youll also have to contend with hardcore survival elements like using maps to navigate and keeping yourself fed and rested. A great game for any survival sim fans.

A masterpiece of minimal storytelling, Downward Spiral could have been released today yet came out nearly two years ago. It hardly shows its age as visuals are crisp, controls are intuitive, and combat and exploration are engaging.

You wake up on a space station with no memories except strange visions of alien ruins on a strange planet. You seem to be the only one alive as a mysterious accident has wiped out the crew. The stations security system is malfunctioning and will shoot on sight so it isnt a matter of floating from room to room to try and figure out what happened.

The zero-gravity locomotion feels great and you wont experience motion sickness even if youre a VR newbie.

If you ever dreamt of being a badass cyborg ninja in a cyberpunk Tokyo then Sairento is a must-have. Boasting some of the best VR combat available, youll dual wield and slow-mo dodge through beautiful levels and face off against a variety of enemies.

No other game quite feels this good. As you sail through the air in slow motion, bullets flying past you, you cant help but break out into a big, stupid grin as you come down on an enemy, katana in hand, and say open wide! as you slice their head off. Absolute action bliss.

This somehow manages to be more Doom than the actual Doom VR game. Combining the deadpan humor of Rick and Morty with the action chops of some of the best shooters out there, Gunheart serves up a metric ton of fun.

Your brain has been implanted into the body of a robotic bounty hunter and youll do the dirty work of yet another shadowy corporation. In this case, its taking care of a pest problem at the edge of the galaxy. Tons of weapons, environments, and verticality, Gunheart is a fantastic sci-fi shooter. The game even has co-op so bring a couple of friends on the hunt.

While not an official VR game, the mod for the very excellent Alien: Isolation is well worth your time. Thanks to the amazing job by Creative Assembly in rendering the world of Alien, Isolation feels like a completely new game in virtual reality. And with a lengthy campaign, DLC, and challenge modes, this is the perfect use for your headset.

You play as Amanda Ripley, daughter of the film series protagonist, as she searches for her missing mother. This brings her to Sevastopol station where the flight recorder of her mothers lost ship, the Nostromo, has been recovered. Seeking answers, Amanda instead finds the deadly xenomorph stalking the halls and airshafts of the space station.

If your spine tingled at any of Alyxs creepy set pieces, then youre going to love this. Get the mod here.

Raw Data is more of an arcade-focused experience but with some of the best combat in VR. It ticks all the boxes: cyberpunk dystopia, robots, evil corporations, etc. and manages to still be engaging. Sharp writing and voiceovers make this one worth your time. Choose from a few different characters, all with different weapons and perks, and dismantle some robots and drones in style.

This is an Oculus exclusive so unless youve got a Rift or Rift-S then youre out of luck. In Lone Echo youll step into the circuits of Jack, an AI with a synthetic body, to help Captain Olivia Rhodes solve a mystery set in a mining operation above the rings of Saturn. Youll float through zero-g, use a suite of futuristic tools, and drink in the AAA visuals this game has to offer.

Its worth mentioning their spin-off of the game, Echo Arena, is free to play and its addictive VR PvP fun.

That should tide you over until even more great games make their way into your headset. For more VR content, check out Newegg's VR Central.

Star Wars: A Tech Version of the Force Exists – But It Sucks – CBR – Comic Book Resources

In Star Wars, there's just no substitute for a connection with an omnipresent power that's infused throughout all life in the universe.

WhileStar Wars may be one of the quintessential science-fiction worlds across the landscape of popular culture, one element to its universe is pure fantasy. The Force is a magical power that exists within all living things throughout the Galaxy, and the Jedi and Sith, who learned to harness it are counted among the deadliest combatants in the universe.

But that doesn't mean the science fiction ofStar Wars doesn't try to catch up to the fantasy. There have been numerous attempts in the franchise's lore where someone or something tried to technologically reproduce the Force. The problem is, they all just sucked.

RELATED:Star Wars: Marvel Confirmed [SPOILER] Told Darth Vader That Luke Was His Son

The goal of tech-based enhancements inStar Wars combatants is to imitate or counteract what the Force allows. It proved to be the specialty of a scientist named Cylo during the early days of the Empire, as the expert used cloning and cybernetic achievements not only to grant himself a semblance of immortality but to also produce attempts at creating the finest non-Force sensitive warriors in the Galaxy. The best examples of his work were the Astarte twins from Marvel's Darth Vader.

Born during the waning days of the Clone Wars, the Astarte twins were raised and trained to replace the Jedi and Sith. The male twin Morit saw himself as an evolution past relics of the past, while his sister Aoilin held more reverence toward them, seeking to learn from Darth Vader personally. Neither sibling held any special affinity with the Force, but both were enhanced cybernetically with abilities that tried to make up for their absence.

RELATED:Star Wars: Who Actually Funded The Clone Army's Creation?

The twins could command the objects around them subtly such as by commanding doors to slide shut, but neither ever demonstrated raw power anywhere near Vader's. Jet boosters in their feet allowed them to amplify their jumps and movement much as the Force would, but they also held a variety of weapons to aid them. In addition to their lightsabers, the twins had built-in flamethrowers, missiles and 360-degree rotating joints to aid them in battle.

What proves most interesting is the similarity such enhancements bear to other attempts at compensating for a lack of attunement to the Force. Mandalorian warriors and their weaponry employed by bounty hunters like Jango and Boba Fett are the oldest and perhaps best-known examples, also employing wrist-mounted flamethrowers and rocket launchers in order to contest Jedi and Sith at range.

RELATED:Star Wars Fan Makes A Compelling Case For Retitling The Saga Films

Their rotating joints are also eerily similar to a certain character from the Clone Wars era. General Grievous was one of the earlier and more dramatic examples of employing cybernetic enhancements to great effect, and Cylo improved on those same designs with Commander Karbin. Multiple rapidly spinning limbs prove a surprisingly effective method of overwhelming Force-sensitives with speed and power in order to devastate their precognitive abilities.

And yet none of these enhancements ever adequately recreated the deadliness of the Force. Time and time again, Jedi and Sith alike proved themselves superior to such technological tactics. The main reason is that the Force is just so versatile in its application in addition to offering raw power tech can't compete with. Whereas cyborgs or weapons-users are forced to specialize, typically in either close quarters or long-range combat, Jedi and Sith prove effective at any range. There's just no competing with precognition, an attunement to the universe and an arsenal of powers that only grows as the franchise continues.

Sticking with animation,Wall-E is the only Pixar entry here, and while the main protagonist is a robot, and all humans now live in a spaceship, no aliens are found, it is a human story.

The film is as visually beautiful as any other Pixar movie, following the story of Wall-E, a robot left behind on Earth to clean, meets E.V.E., falls in love, and sets on a journey which alters his life, and that ofhumanity which is far different, and far lazier, than the one that left Earth.

It is another human story that explores the reaches of space and time without revolving around aliens, as a team of researchers set out to find a new planet for humans to inhabit.

What a strange phenomenonThe Matrixis, on its own, it isone of the greatest movies ever made, but then the two sequels got made, ruining so much of the lore and worldbuilding of the first entry.

Nevertheless, by itself, the film has remained well-beloved, with Keanu Reeves playing a computer programmer pulled into the reality of his reality, and a war with the controllers of it.

Not only isInception the highest-rated sci-fi movie without aliens, but the highest rated sci-fi movie ever on IMDb, currently sitting at number thirteen of the top 250, and is the third film for Nolan on this list.

It has a great cast, an excellent score, twists and turns, and makes you think, as well as being filled with tension, and an ending that leaves the audience deciding for themselves what Cobb's fate was.

Katie Taylor open to fight with former UFC champion Cris Cyborg – Pundit Arena

Katie Taylor remains open to the possibility of welcoming Cris Cyborg Justino to the realm of professional boxing.

Dubbed a legacy fighter by promoter Eddie Hearn, Taylor reportedly wants to see out her career with the biggest fights possible rather than rest on her laurels and coast to an undefeated professional record.

The Bray boxer will be put to the test in her next outing, when she will rematch Delfine Persoon and aim to remove any doubt following the pairs controversial first bout.

Taylor vs. Persoon II will take place on August 22 at Hearns Matchroom Fight Camp in London.

Having successfully negotiated the captivating rematch, Hearn revealed in a recent IFL TV interview that Taylor is hoping for some fascinating match-ups including clashes with Amanda Serrano, Cecilia Braekhus and former UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg.

Hearn said: She wants Persoon, she wants Serrano, she wants Braekhus, she wants Cyborg. Im not saying shes done after that, but thats what motivates her.

While Cyborg possesses devastating power in her hands, as well as some kickboxing experience, she would understandably be considered a significant underdog against Taylor under boxing rules.

Legendary MMA referee John McCarthy has compared a potential Taylor vs. Cyborg bout to the professional boxing debut of Conor McGregor, who was stopped in the 10th round of his clash with Floyd Mayweather three years ago.

McCarthy told Sky Sports: For Cris to step into the realm of fighting a boxer like Katie Taylor, its a tall order. Thats a Conor McGregor trying to take on a Floyd Mayweather. Thats usually not going to go good for you. The same as if Katie Taylor tried to step into a MMA ring. Thats not going well for her against Cris Cyborg.

If Cris is going to do boxing, obviously shes got to have a name shes going against, but I would say pick a name thats not quite Katie Taylor!'

Nelson Cruz has the mask needed to help us take down all the robot cyborgs (Video) – FanSided

Nelson Cruz, Minnesota Twins. (Photo by Brace Hemmelgarn/Minnesota Twins/Getty Images)

Nelson Cruz just donned the greatest mask weve ever seen since Darth Vaders.

Cruz is a man, hes 40 and hes got a mask designed to take down the cyborgs. We know theyre coming because eventually, theyll get here and were not going to be ready for them. If The Matrix, Terminator and Back to the Futuremovie franchises taught us anything, it is the future cannot be trusted, especially when youre dealing with cyborgs. They dont care about your feelings at all!

Thankfully, Cruz is like Tom Brady and Paul Rudd in that he doesnt age. When these vicious blood-thirsty robots attack our planet, probably from within because some scientist will let them out of the laboratory, Cruz will be ready to go full-onBear Jew on all those stupid, idiot robots. While hes no Eli Roth, he does play the same sport Teddy Ballgame once did, so weve got that going for us.

It doesnt matter if your star slugger ghosts you ahead of a Sunday matinee or even your ace pitcher pops his Achilles on a nationally televised game on FS1, as long as Cruz has a bat in his hand and a mask like this, we know that we can beat the robots. We have to believe we can. It wont be easy, but Commander Cruz has our backs and will lead us to victory, one swing at a time.

If we didnt like Cruz so much and he wasnt wearing that sweet Dominican flag t-shirt, we may have been convinced he was a cyborg. You can never be too sure. Then again, he did walk through a bunch of fake virtual fans as the champion of real life he is. If he was a cyborg he would never be able to do such a thing. Its one of the few Is he a human or is he a cyborg? tests we have.

We care about the man behind the mask more than youll ever know, as Cruz is our only hope.

Teen Titans Go!: The 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Episodes, According To IMDb – Screen Rant

Teen Titans Go! has quite a reputation with many fans with some episodes being ranked very highly and others very lowly. Here are 5 of each.

Teen Titans Go! has quite a reputation with many fans. While it follows the Teen Titans cast that's been around since the mid-2000s, the content that is there is nothing like the fans would've thought of. This had led to many fans that don't like the show at all.

RELATED:5 Ways Teen Titans Go! To The Movies Proved To Be The Best Teen Titans Movie (& 5 Times It Fell Short)

That being said, there are plenty that also really like the show and believe it has some form of merit in one way or another. As such like everyshow, there are plenty of good episodes but also a lot of bad ones. Here are the 5 worst episodes of the show as well as 5 of the absolute best according to IMDb.

Starting this list is one of the worst episodes in the series. Called "Easter Creeps", the general synopsis of the episode is how the Tooth Fairy plans to take over Easter and it is up to the Teen Titans team to stop it.

RELATED:Teen Titans Go!: 5 Ways It's Actually A Good Reboot (& 5 Ways It's Just Bad)

As entertaining as the synopsis may sound to some people, it didn't really hit a lot of people when it first released. The running gag for this episode, in particular, is that the Easter Bunny wants everyone to eat his chocolate eggs and how it seems to be the second time someone wants to take over Easter.

One of the better episodes of the show is a part of a four-part storyline. When it aired it totaled to almost an hour in the broadcast. This episode is mostly a Cyborg focused episode where he gets trapped within an alternate reality called "The Night Begins To Shine."

It is there that an evil dragon wants to steal Cyborgs song for its own nefarious purposes. Although it was only the first episode, it was a decent way to set up a couple of crescendos that eventually come through in the later episodes.

The "Bottle Episode" is the 29th episode of Season 3. It is here that the Teen Titans end up being trapped inside a giant bottle within their living room. It is there that they spend the majority of the episode talking about their past songs, wins, and their numerous injuries.

Essentially outside of that and a song or two, they spend the majority of the episode trying to figure out a way to get out of a bottle. Not much else really.

The second part of the four-part episode series, "The Day the Night Stopped Beginning to Shine and Became Dark Even Though It Was the Day Chapter Two: The Story in Your Eyes" is focused on Beast Boy's side of the story. Where he feels the loss when he doesn't have his best friend Cyborg around.

However, things begin to change when he goes to find himself and meets a legendary musical artist.

Waffles is one of the more straightforward episodes of Teen Titans Go. Essentially, it is about how Cyborg and Beast Boy play a little game: Who can last the longest by only saying the word waffles?

Throughout the entire episode, it goes through extreme lengths on simply talking in the language of waffles from the waffle song to Beast Boy flirting with Raven. By only saying waffles. It ispretty astonishing how far the episode is willing to go by just saying waffles.

The third part, "The Day the Night Stopped Beginning to Shine and Became Dark Even Though It Was the Day Chapter Three: Playing Hard to Get" has the Teen Titans travel back to the reality where Cyborg is currently stuck in.

When Beast Boy returns back to Titans Tower, he tells the rest of the team that he has found one of the members and that they need the rest of them. When they learn they can't sing anymore, the Titans use the song Forever Mine to travel back to the other reality. A decent episode that leads to the crescendo that happens in the next episode.

After a series of comments where the boys are more superior then the girl members of the Teen Titans. These sexist comments essentially create an issue where the characters create a competition in order to truly determine which gender is the best.

After Beast Boy and Cyborg loses to Starfire and Raven, they start to act like girls. To stop this, Robin attempts to give cooties to Raven and Starfire in order to bring the boys back.

The final part of this entire event, "The Day the Night Stopped Beginning to Shine and Became Dark Even Though It Was the Day Chapter Four: Night Begins to Shine", the Teen Titans and the musicians face off against the evil dragon and its forces.

All of this in order to take control of the Night That Begins To Shine. After the band that was introduced in the earlier episodes succeeds in destroying the dragon through their music they begin to rebuild the world and everyone sings the Night That Begins To Shine.

The worst episode of the entire series according to IMDb.In spite of the title of the episode, Slade himself doesn't actually show up in the episodeat all. Cyborg and Beast Boy decide to have a clown to party with which terrifies Starfire.

RELATED:Teen Titans Go! 10 Powerful Character Cosplays

However, the Clown ends up going insane when Cyborg and Beast Boy modify it and it thengoes on to ruin a lot of children's entertainment everywhere.Due to the false advertising of the episode, this episode is easily the most hated.

In contrast to the worst episode is the best episode according to IMDb. 4o% 40% 20% is kind of a precursor to the day that night stopped series of episodes as it is about the song of the Night Begins To Shine. The song eventually got really popular with a lot of people.

RELATED:Teen Titans Go! To the Movies: 100+ Hidden Easter Eggs

It is a Cyborg focused episode that talks about his strength and will come from the song rather than his actual cybernetic body. The episode went on to be enjoyed by both fans and critics, as it still remains the highest-rated episode currently.

Cyborg Actor Ray Fisher ‘Will Not Relent’ When Speaking Out About Joss Whedon and Producers – Epicstream

More people are starting to speak up about toxic work environments and besides the people over at the Ellen show, Cyborg actor Ray Fisher has named Joss Whedon for abusive behavior on the set of Justice League, calling out producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns for being enablers. With Fisher getting backlash for his statements, he is adamant about making Whedon, Berg, and Johns accountable for their actions.

Fisher posted:

We dont know the specifics of the risks that Fisher is taking, but it has been said that he cant go into detail about these abuses because of an NDA he had signed with Warner Bros; if anything, WB is said to have the right to sue him if he speaks out about his experiences making Justice League.

So far, we dont have any solid details on what Whedon did on set, but some word is going around that he was being very rude and arrogant in front of everyone, trashing Snyders original plans for the movie. Take note that Snyder had left the project due to the loss of his daughter, so you could say that trashing on him would have been in very poor tasteif these rumors turn out to be true.

We dont know how Fisher plans on moving forward with these statements, but I have a feeling that the public is now behind him. If WB does intend to keep him quiet with an NDA, then its just going to turn out worse for the studio.

Hopefully, Fisher gets to speak his truth, because I just want to know what exactly went down on that set.

For now, fans wait for Snyders original version of Justice League which is set to hit HBO Max sometime in 2021.

To give myself a vacation, I sent my phone on a trip – The Boston Globe

The woman eyed me suspiciously over her mask, and picked up her tape gun just in case.

My phone is in this box, and since its not quite safe to take an actual vacation, Im trying to give my brain one by sending my phone on a trip cross-country, I explained. Id like it to go ground, so it can see America. Have you read Kerouac?

I could sense the clerk was trying to decide if I was dangerous or just dumb, so I quickly paid my $31.85 it turns out its weirdly complicated and expensive to make a package travel slowly and hustled through the glass doors with a pep in my step.

What would I do with myself now that I was no longer a cyborg hooked permanently to most of the worlds knowledge and every one of its complaints?

That question was still going through my mind as I arrived at my house a few minutes later and immediately got on my computer to check my e-mail and Google Did I miss anything?

It always takes time to settle into a vacation, and when I awoke the following morning I instinctively reached for my phone in its usual place on the nightstand. Instead I felt the strangest thing: a book.

The book did not have a built-in clock, so I went to my kitchen, looked at the time on the microwave, then kinda stood there trying to remember what we did in the mornings in the 20th century. I think maybe we milked animals.

I resisted the urge to go on my computer or turn on the television, so I opened that book thing and began to read. This lasted for nearly three pages before my attention span wore out. But I remembered that I owned many more books that I had also not read, so I went to my shelves and started pulling down volumes. The new me was going to be so much better than the old me, I promised myself. And this was only the beginning; ahead of me were days and days of such lies.

This included the vow that I would spend more quality time with my family. Which I did, if you count my children hovering around me and repeating the phrase You just keep using mamas phone when Id ignore their requests for ridiculous things like my undivided attention or food.

I only use her phone when its something important, Id correct them as I checked the weather and the latest memes.

To truly feel the freedom, then, I had to go out into the world, alone. My wife dropped me at the beach one day so she could have a vacation from me, and I had to stay there until she picked me up at a specified time and place. A specified time and place! It was like the 90s.

Another time I went to the grocery store alone, armed only with a printed list. I felt as vulnerable and exposed to the world as someone climbing Mount Everest. Normally, Id be able to text my wife constant questions like: What is okra? Instead, I had to ask for the help of other humans. Other humans!

I survived. But it was moments like those that taught me what it truly meant to live phone-less in the modern world. It was not zen. It was not the key to being more present. It did not make all the bad news and Kardashians disappear.

No, it was about being a chore to everyone else in your life. Not a single day went by where my experiment did not create a headache for someone else. This included strangers. Picture me walking up to you in a mask and shouting: Is this okra?

I had thought the experiment would end with me quitting my smartphone forever. At the very least, I thought Id trade it in for a flip phone. Instead, it forced me to accept that my phone is both the cause of my issues and the only thing that cures them.

My phone returned on a Thursday. It had been gone for 11 days. Where had it traveled? I have no idea. Id strapped it to a giant battery pack so I could track its movements. But like everything else to do with this experiment, that had failed almost immediately, at a truck stop somewhere in central Pennsylvania. And if theres anything sadder than realizing you cant live without your phone, it is central Pennsylvania.

Hopefully my phone went on to more exciting places. Hopefully I will too, when all this is over. In the meantime, Ill be dumb-thumbing my way through the Internet, searching for another answer.

Its probably on page four of one of these books. Too bad Ill never get that far.

10 New Things You Need To Know About The Flash Movie – Animated Times

Flash Might not be the strongest but definitely, the fastest of all the Superheroes. Ironically his movie is taking the longest time to release. Due to Justice League, this movie became the center of all the controversies. There are Number changes in the film starting from the scriptwriters to the Directors. Not only this, but there were also rumors that this movie production has halted for a period. A few days back, Warner Bros. revealed the dates for The Flash movie. 3rd June 2022, but The trailer has not released yet.

Here are the ten things You need to know if you are a Flash fan

According to the comic version of Flashpoint, there was a battle between the Aquaman and Wonder Woman. The War Zone was created by Barry Only. According to reports, there will be no sort of conflict between the Aquaman ( kingdom Atlantis) and wonder woman( kingdom) in the movie. So, We are not going to see Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa for the role of wonder woman and Aquaman, respectively.

It is quite disheartening for the fans. We can see the positive side, that DC extended Universe can focus on the lead hero Flash.

After the Justice League Movie, there were many rumors related to the casting of The Flash, but till now, the only confirmed one is Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. A few months back, the film director Andres Muschietti said that the few casts from the justice league would be in The Flash.

In a recent Tevlesion shoot scene, Barry said that I told Victor this was possible.

So who is this Victor? Is it, Cyborg? Fans took it to Twitter and believed that they might see Ray Fischer in Cyborgs role again.

Kiersey Clemons was set her debut film in the movie Justice League, though scenes were removed and. Kiersey had played the role of Iris West, who had an ideal attachment towards Barry Allen. The turning point was when the director got changed from Rick Famuyiwa to Andrs Muschietti due to some creative issues with the production team.

According to the reports ofThe Illuminerdi, now DC extended Universe is planning for a new person to portray the character of Iris West Somewhere aged between 21-25, who characterized as a brave and Intelligent reporter. The news of Iris West in DC is confirmed, but will it be an African-Woman?

As we have seen Candice Patton in the role of Iris West so it likely to be DC will continue the same pattern. Still, there is no official news regarding who will be playing the role of Iris West.

It was quite unbelievable for the fans when it announced that Jeffery would not be there in The Flash movie, and instead, we will see Michael Keaton for the role of Batman. ( After more than 30 years). Jeffery played the role of Thomas Wayne in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Recently Jeffery joked that it was Michael Keaton who took away his part.

In the movie, Barry Allen will create a Multiverse to go back in time to save her mother from death. There he will meet with Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne as Batman and Joker. Rumors are confirming that we will see Michael Keaton in the role of Batman, and if it continues, we may also see him in the Bat-Girl movie.

Recently the social media, including Twitter, Outraged with anger when a video has gone viral Where Ezra was pushing a female to the grounds and choking her out. The rage spread like fire in public demanding they do not want Ezra in The Flash. The anger was also justified.DC doesnt want the Franchise hero to go around in public and create troubles. Considering he played a significant role in the fantastic beast, it is still in Dileammna about his future in the franchise.

To prove his father is not guilty and save his mother, Barry will go back in the past. Barry wanted to show that the murder done by none other than reverse Flash, and he was the real culprit. Going back in time indicates that Barry is breaking the law of nature by altering the future. So we might see several changes in the new world of DCEU. Maybe a complete restart.!

Batman was the savior and protector of Gotham City. When it comes to the Superhero suit in DCEU, Batman has the best suit among all the others.

There are gossips that the suit will be similar to theKingdom ComeBatman Costume. We might see a vintage Batsuit in the movie. Dceu partisans are all set to compare it with the Ben Affleck Batman and Superman Batsuit.

When it comes to Flash, the no. of writers is uncountable. There were many controversies with the writer and the production team. The first writer and director were Grahame-Smith, and now the current Director is Andy Musrettti. Due to so many group changes, we may find various alterations in the movie at multiple scenes.

The last thing for the people who are eagerly waiting for this movie is that shooting will begin soon after Ezra completes his work with the Fantastic Beast team. Filming will most probably start in the early-mid of 2021 and hopefully going to release on the promised date, 3rd June 2022. However, there are no words of Honour for the shooting years due to the ongoing Corona Virus Pandemic.

According to Hofmann: Sage against the machine | According To Hofmann – Uniontown Herald Standard

I didnt want to write yet another column about my ongoing belief that computers are going to take us over like I learned from movies like The Terminator, The Matrix and Throw Momma From the Train, but please keep in mind that the machines were the ones forcing my hand (well, both hands since I type) to write about just that.

Their latest attempt is to take away our thoughts.

Okay, maybe I presented my conclusion too soon, so let me reel that back before the nice young men in their clean, white coats come to take me away.

I guess it all started with the auto-correct feature that exists on various word processor programs, search engines and cellphones.

You start typing a word or even a sentence, and the computer tries to figure out what word youre typing like its a constant guessing game that only the computer is playing.

Id love to try some of your a[arsenic?] ap[apes?] app[appendages?] appl[appliances?] apple[apples? Its apples. We knew it all along!].

Like most people who are lazy, I welcomed the computer-generated suggestions as it kept me from extra typing, saving me time to reflect on what I wrote and even more time to realize what I wrote makes me sound even more like a drooling dunce.

However, I then noticed my email starting to act fun[funky, right?] no! funny.

It seems email programs are adding new help features every other week, starting with suggested replies at the push of a button.

If you dont know what I mean, the next time you reply to an email or a text message, youll see there may be a few choices displayed around where your text is to appear. If you click on one of the choices, that will be your answer, saving you from typing it.

The problem I found with that is whenever someone who knows me sends me a message, theyre not expecting me to respond with the generic, lame answers the program provides. Normally, I reply with a snarky comment or a statement of self-flattery. I know, right? Thats surprisingly humble of me.

For example, if someone texts me a dirty joke, chances are Im not going to reply with LOL or I enjoy your humorous anecdote or My sympathies to the nun who walks into a bar.

It goes without saying theres no good computer-generated option to fit ones personality unless you are a cyborg, but it goes with saying that the computers provided replies cant fit into 92% of conversations.

To better illustrate, I conducted an experiment where I sent messages to myself and tried to answer with all the answers provided.

MARK ONE: Can you sit on a cactus for me, please?

MARK TWO: Of Course! You bet! What kind?

MARK ONE: Lets go with the Jumping Cholla cactus The barbs are hollow and when they make contact with the moisture of someones skin, they actually curve and lock into place underneath the top layer of epidermis. Its really painful.

MARK TWO: Sounds good. Sounds good to me. Perfect!

MARK ONE: So, how did it feel sitting on that cactus?

MARK TWO: Pretty good. It was fine. Not bad.

It says in the Bible that laziness brings on a deep sleep...unless you have curved cactus barbs in your rump because you were too lazy to type a negative response to your psychotic friend.

The whole thing even jumped to social media where, the other day, I was responding to a post informing me that mean people suck with an emoji of a devil face sticking out its tongue because I happen to be mean and take delight in mocking such posts.

However, when I went to reply, a row of emoji faces popped up and what did I see? A hand expressing thumbs up, balloon letters spelling out You Go, Girl!, a frowny face, a crying face and a unicorn farting a rainbow.

The computers didnt even give us time to get comfortable with them telling us how to speak and think and moved on to tell us how to feel!

Thats why we have to fight these software programs with sarcastic cleverness at every turn and not settle for their easy answers as our thoughts and our feelings are at stake!

If we dont, then we will regret no[nothing, because Im just kidding. LOL! Thank you! Sounds great! Have a nice day! You, too!]

Ghost In The Shell: 10 Quotes From The Show That Will Stay With Us Forever – Screen Rant

Like many films that are ahead of their time,Ghost in the Shell became an ever-growing monument. It's a cult classic that will slowly but surely become more popular as humanity advances into its next stage of technological, cultural, or social development.

RELATED:The Matrix Reloaded: 5 Special Effects That Hold Up (& 5 That Don't)

Ghost in the Shell, the 1995 original based on the manga, paints a world where cyborgs run amok and artificial intelligence has become smart enough to argue like ancient Greek philosophers. for that matter, a lot of the dialogue inGhost in the Shellwill haunt the viewers and challenge their perception of existence. These are 10 of those quotes.

The very glue that defines a person or even a society is a record of their past, without history or memory, a sentient being is nothing.

Yet, memory-- even when jotted down on paper or recorded, is still hard to define. At best, they're hazy-- sometimes inaccurate translations of the electrical signals in the brain. Or it could be just the Puppet Master trying to argue that his cognitive functions are better.

Charles Darwin will definitely agree with this though he might take it back once he sees who said it. It was the Puppet Master, the main "villain" ofGhost in the Shell. Being an A.I. who became sentient and conscious, some might consider it a new species.

RELATED:13 Best Cyberpunk Movies Of All Time

Except it's more like an anomaly of nature than something nature actually intended-- unless nature intended for humans to create an immortal being that can break all its rules. To a certain extent, however, the Puppet Master's words ring true, it's the change is often the catalyst for growth.

This one might sound like it came from the Puppet Master except Major Motoko Kusanagi said this herself. She's an individual who apparently has changed too many cybernetic bodies and with too many augmentations that she's become more machine than human.

It's true that she's perfect in every way but the cost of itis her own biological shackle. That's why Major is often at a conundrum-- she might be free to change and have an unlimited growth ceiling but the room for improvement goes only as big as her humanity allows it.

Yet again, we have another quote here of the Puppet Master debating the foundations of humanity. Much like how Morpheus argues to Neo inThe Matrix that human consciousness is nothing more than electrical signals in the brain, biological beings are nothing more than programs.

RELATED:10 Cyberpunk Masterpieces Youve Probably Never Seen

All of us started off as nothing more than mere DNA smears who are predestined to survive and propagate our race. At least, that's what the essence of biological beings is, according to the Puppet Master. One heck of an oversimplification but the frightening part is that it might be true.

A human is only a sentient because of its consciousness and self-awareness, something that separates it from other animals. Then along came an A.I. invention, the Puppet Master who was able to create its own awareness and consciousness by itself.

It essentially invalidated the status of a human being as the top player in the food chain. The Puppet Master was merely the first of its kind yet it's already more intelligentand more resourceful than most human beings. Human hubris and ego simply cannot take that.

Speaking of hubris, ambition is also one of the things that make humans more peculiar compared to other apes. Because no other ape would dare explore the huge dark death sentence beyond Earth nor would it try to create something smarter than it.

RELATED:5 Best & 5 Worst Cyberpunk Movies, According To Rotten Tomatoes

Pushing our limits, whether physical, mental, or social has made modern society possible and thistendency is bound tobecome more exponential in the future. In the film, it's also the reason why the Major is chasing a murderous A.I.

Oh butGhost in the Shellis not just about existentialism, but nihilism as well. Straight out of Batou's mouth is something that minimizes the struggles of each individual person in their effort to gain knowledge during their lives.

Not even the smartest scientist or the richest man can have all the most valuable treasure in the world, knowledge. Unless of course, an immortal sentient being existed that can actually accumulate all knowledge, inGhost in the Shell's case, that would be the Puppet Master. Explains why its the perfect villain for humanity.

That's a quirky contemporary way of saying that a dead organic human body is a sad sight. It's courtesy of Batou again. When one lives in a world where human consciousness can easily be transferred into a new shell or body, an organic human is bound to be a precious commodity.

RELATED:10 Cyberpunk Sci-Fi Books Too Twisted To Be Made Into Films

The Major perfectly explains this notion perfectly well with her ennui. Since her consciousness is easily salvaged, it seems less precious or meaningful than a fragile human being who still depends on a flimsy fatty organ for their being.

That's one cynical way to look at the Major's predicament. She's a cyborg and a perfect one at that, except her idea of herself has gotten hazy and conflicting to the point where she no longer considers or considered herself human.

This is easily shown when she has no qualms on being naked in front of her comrades as it's technically not her original body anymore. Her whole being has gotten reduced to a transferrable consciousness-- one tends to suffer an identity crisis due to this.

Ah, the age-old question, "what is life?" It's a good query to ask a cyborg in hopes of them frying their circuitry, which is probably why the Puppet Master fired this shot. Surprisingly, the question also works well at making organics freeze and scratch their heads.

It's not practically important question nor its answer that groundbreaking to mankind but it grows ever more prevalent as humans stray farther away from their animalistic humble beginnings. Just one of the many questions thatGhost in the Shellassaults its viewers with no answer in sight.

Ghost In The Shell: 10 Quotes From The Show That Will Stay With Us Forever - Screen Rant

This Day in Horror History: MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE was released in 1987 – Dread Central

On this day in horror history, Gary Goddards Masters of the Universe with Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, and Courteney Cox was released in 1987

Based on the Mattel toy line of the same name, and produced by Yoram Globus and Menahem Golan from a screenplay written by David Odell, the films commercial failure contributed to the closure of Cannon Films.

It was a critical and commercial failure, grossing $17 million worldwide against a budget of $22 million, but is now regarded as a classic cult film.

Masters of the Universe was Lundgrens first leading role following his breakout role in Rocky IV, and he later labeled it as his least favorite film role. Langella however considers Skeletor one of his favorite roles.

Cannon Films planned to produce Masters of the Universe 2: Cyborg with Pro surfer Laird Hamilton replacing Dolph Lundgren as He-Man.

The abandoned script followed He-Man, who returns to Earth disguised as a professional quarterback, to battle Skeletor, who has left Earth as a post-apocalyptic wasteland. She-Ra was featured along with Trap Jaw.

Albert Pyun was set to direct the low budget sequel but it was abandoned when Cannon would not pay Mattels fees. The production utilized the costumes and sets for the Cyborg with Jean-Claude Van Damme

It stars Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. Courteney Cox joins them as Julie Winston with Barry Livingston as Charlie, James Tolkan as Detective Hugh Lubic, Christina Pickles as Sorceress, Meg Foster as Evil-Lyn, Chelsea Field as Teela, Jon Cypher as Man-At-Arms, Billy Barty as Gwildor, Robert Duncan McNeill as Kevin Corrigan, Anthony De Longis as Blade, Tony Carroll as Beast Man, Pons Maar as Saurod, Robert Towers as Karg, and Peter Brooks as Narrator.

It begins when the evil Skeletor finds a mysterious power called the Cosmic Key and becomes nearly invincible. However, courageous warrior He-Man locates inventor Gwildor, who created the Key and has another version of it. During a battle, one of the Keys is transported to Earth, where it is found by teenagers Julie and Kevin. Now both He-Man and Skeletors forces arrive on Earth searching for the potent weapon.

It sports a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Masters of the Universe is a slapdash adaptation of the He-Man mythos that cant overcome its cynical lack of raison detre, no matter how admirably Frank Langella throws himself into the role of Skeletor.

How much do you love Masters of the Universe? Let us know what you think in the comments below or onFacebook,Twitter, orInstagram!

Hellpoint is a jerk to the player, and that’s the point – Polygon

Developers have been trying to capture the essence of FromSoftwares ultra-hard games since the launch of the first Dark Souls, but they never quite seem to get there.

Weve seen Souls-like games from Deck 13 (creators of The Surge), Souls-like Metroidvanias like Hollow Knight, third-person co-op shooter Souls-likes such as Remnant: From the Ashes, and weve even seen long-standing franchises transform into Souls-like games, like 2018s Darksiders 3.

These games take some inspiration from Dark Souls borrowing genre conventions like super difficult boss fights, penalties for death, and purposeful combat and twist them to add some new features, or maybe become a bit more friendly to new players.

But the recently released Hellpoint goes for FromSoftwares dark tone and obscure lore in a much stronger way, and it nails one of Dark Souls least copied features: being a constant, unrelenting asshole.

Hellpoint takes the horrific, sci-fi style of H.R. Giger and smashes it into the Dark Souls formula.

At the start of the game, my character wakes up on a space station. Im not human, I dont think. I cant tell if Im an android, a cyborg, or the Space Jockey from Alien. I know this is the future, but this space station could also be the biblical hell, or some form of it. Everywhere I go, the future horror and demon aesthetics continue to clash in a seemingly intentionally dissonant way similar to Doom (2016), but less cartoony.

I stumble into a room with my first enemy, naked, save for my weapon: a bladed pipe I found on the ground. I swing and take them out from behind. Hostile zombies hide in the corners, take slashes at me from the dark, spawn behind me, and attempt to knock me into dangerously placed pits.

I clear the room, taking a few hits, and use my Health Injector to recover. But the Health Injector only has a limited number of charges, and its the only way I can recover my health. I need to either fight or die if I want to get more.

I take an elevator up to the second floor and find a long hallway stretching left and right. Having played games like Hellpoint before, I inch my way into the doorway and use the camera to peer around the corner. To the right, I see a giant, hooded knight. It looks like some kind of angel, but I have a pretty good feeling that its hostile everything wants to kill me in Hellpoint.

The knight doesnt seem to see me, so I look to my left to check the other direction. Suddenly, a blue swirl of light appears under my feet, a sword stabs up at me from the ground, and Im dead. The knight has a ranged attack that strikes from below, it seems. And while I was watching my back, I wasnt watching my feet: a classic mistake.

I respawn along with all my enemies and I notice what looks like a clock next to my health, stamina, and mana bars. Its glowing red, where it had previously been a calm, dark color. Thinking it was odd, I moved forward, into the big zombie room, where I take the elevator to the second floor. But this time I found an eight-foot demon waiting for me.

Naturally, I panic. I sprint to the elevator button, call it, and run around the room waiting for it to arrive. The demon and the zombies follow behind me. When the elevator door slides open, I jump inside. I hold my breath until I hear the door close behind me. When I turn around, I see the demons hoof and staff clipping through the door.

So close.

Back on the second floor, I dont make the same mistake again. I loot my body and head left. While I avoid the knight walking around, I see statues that look identical to the knight in the hallway. Dark Souls tricked me like this before, so I slash at a few of them, trying to see if theyre alive. My weapon bounces off the stone. Im safe.

As I walk down the hall, I see the orange glow of a barrier. This is a boss, Im sure of it. As I run toward the barrier, I pass by another knight statue. Having tested the others already, I ignore it.

I approach the stairs, and what I thought was a statue turns and kills me in a single blow.

Hellpoint is an asshole; the kind of game that doesnt really care if youre having fun. And if you get paranoid enough to start avoiding its traps, you might just survive.

FromSoftwares titles have a long history of making players want to scream. Being constantly punished whenever you let your guard down isnt fun, but I beat games like these with a powerful pair of motivators: spite and pride.

Hellpoint relishes in that particular aspect of the Dark Souls formula. Getting knocked into a pit by an enemy in Hellpoint feels bad. Getting killed by a surprise knight twice in a row feels bad. But thats the point.

Hellpoint seems to want me to hate it so badly that Ill feel compelled to continue through the end, so I can flip it the double birds as I watch the credits. Souls games offer the same kind of self-satisfaction: the thrill of being able to conquer something that, unlike most video games, doesnt want to be conquered.

The force that compels me to conquer overly frustrating games like Dark Souls only works because I know I can be better each time I try. FromSoftware and Cradle Games know I can do better too, and thats why they push me. When I ran through that hall the second time, I avoided the knight that killed me with its bullshit floor swords. And when I went through the third time, I avoided the living statue. Like all video games, Hellpoint asks me to learn from my mistakes it just doesnt ask very nicely.

Hellpoint offers the few things you can only get from a Souls-game once: tricks, traps, and a sense of awe. Ive fallen victim to every Souls-trap in the book, but by virtue of learning how to proceed, I avoid them in subsequent playthroughs. Hellpoint is a new haunted house to trap and trick me.

Im not sure why Id ever play through Hellpoint a second time, not when I have a legion of similar, slightly more polished games to play again. But Im excited to see what the rest of the game has to offer, if only so I can angrily shout at every trick I fall for. And then, if I return, hopefully Ill be a little smarter, a little angrier, and a little less willing to take what I believe I see for granted.

Suicide Squad for PS5 and PC: Everything you need to know – Up News Info

Source: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment

The rumors are true. Rocksteady Studios has confirmed that it is working on a Suicide Squad game. The developer behind the Batman: Arkham series is expected to show off Suicide Squad at DC FanDome on August 22.

The Suicide Squad is a team of supervillains from DC Comics. There have been several iterations of them over the years, but they usually take the form of a task force employed by the government, under the leadership of Amanda Waller, to perform operations that were considered to be suicide runs or secret missions that the government otherwise wanted off the record. These were done in exchange for reduced sentences and parole, and members were implanted or fitted with bombs to ensure obedience.

Notable members of the Suicide Squad over the years have included Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag Jr., King Shark, Deathstroke, Black Manta, Duela Dent (Jokers Daughter), Enchantress well, theres a lot.

Without an official reveal, we cant speculate as to what the gameplay will be like. Judging from Rocksteadys previous work with the Batman: Arkham series, you can likely expect brutal melee combat. Weve heard that it is a loot-based game similar in style to Marvels Avengers, but this is unconfirmed.

Eurogamer has reported that a contender for the final title of the game is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was conveniently recently registered as a web domain. You can guess what well be doing if that is indeed the final name.

For anyone who isnt familiar with the Justice League, theyre a team of superheroes that protect the earth. Founding members include Batman, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Over the years members like Green Arrow, Hawkman, Black Canary, Zatanna, Cyborg, Blue Beetle, and many more would join.

Other than that, we have very little to go on. Rocksteady will likely create an original story for its game that takes inspiration from some of the franchises most beloved comics. DC Comics ran a series called Justice League vs. Suicide Squad from 2016, which follows the Leagues discovery of the secret Suicide Squad and their effort to take them down as they see them as a threat to society.

Absolutely not. If you value your time and money at all, do not watch the Suicide Squad movie from 2016. I dont care that it won an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Its awful. Go watch the Birds of Prey movie with Harley Quinn instead. You dont need to in order to understand the game, its just a good movie.

Suicide Squad is most likely coming to Xbox Series X and PS5. The life cycles of the Xbox One and PS4 are coming to an end with Microsoft and Sonys next-gen consoles right around the corner. We expect it to also hit PC, given that previous Rocksteady titles did as well.

Eurogamers report indicated that Suicide Squad was farther off from launch than the teased but as of yet unconfirmed Batman: Court of Owls game from Warner Bros. Montreal. As such, I wouldnt expect it to hit Xbox Series X, PC, or PS5 for a couple more years, maybe between 2021 and 2023.

Exclusive Teen Titans Go! To Camp: Review and Interview with Sholly Fisch – GeekDad

GeekDad was lucky enough to get an advance look at DCs new all-ages graphic novel Teen Titans Go! To Camp. Writer Sholly Fisch was kind enough to answer a few questions about the first long-form TTG graphic novel, and DC provided an exclusive excerpt from the book. Read on for our interview and review, with the pages from the graphic novel along the way!

GeekDad QuestionsAnswers from Sholly Fisch

1. This comic certainly captured the chaotic feel of summer camp well, with an Apokaliptan twist. Did you go to camp as a kid, and what are the memories that stick out from there?

With an Apokaliptan twist? You mean your summer camp didnt have volcanic fire pits and savage parademons? Weird

I did indeed go to camp for a bunch of years as a kid, although it was day camp, rather than sleepaway. That gave me lots of experiences to draw from while writing the graphic novel, and it was a lot of fun figuring out how to twist those experiences in bizarre ways to fit the dark, demonic setting of Apokolips. I mean, I probably did have a food fight or two in camp, but our food never fought back.

Most of my favorite camp memories are the usual, like swimming and arts and crafts. Since this is a graphic novel about super heroes going to camp, though, Ill mention that my most heroic camp moment was probably knocking down a bully in the swimming pool. He was older and bigger than me, so in retrospect, it probably wasnt the smartest thing Ive ever done. But I didnt get beaten up for it not because he admired my bravery, but because I had terrible sunburn on my shoulders. The second he jumped back up and grabbed my shoulder, I wailed loudly in pain, and he panicked for fear of getting in trouble. Who says sunburn is bad for you?

2. One of the biggest highlights of Teen Titans GO! to Camp was the parade of unique cutaway gags and letters to home by a diverse team of artists. How was the process of picking so many collaborators in addition to main artist Marcelo DiChiara?

Id love to take credit for the astonishing range of guest artists on the letters from camp, but that idea really came from Editor Supreme Kristy Quinn. Kristy did all the hard work, and I just got to be pleasantly surprised by the mix of artists, which ran the gamut from old friends to artists from regular DC Universe series, and even one of the artists from Sandman: The Dreaming! (I wont spoil which artists they are, because the surprises are half the fun.) Quite a departure from what you might expect in Teen Titans Go!

But I dont want to overlook the amazing artwork that Marcelo and colorist Franco Riesco created for the main part of the graphic novel either. Over the past few years, Marcelo, Franco, and I have done a bunch of stories together for the regular Teen Titans Go! comic book, and theyre always great at capturing the series manic fun not to mention slipping in lots of little Easter Eggs that not even I was expecting. For the graphic novel, though, they really went way above and beyond, with tons of stunning spreads and visual effects that I just had to keep showing to my family as the pages appeared in my e-mail.

Its pretty nice having so many talented people make me look so good.

3. This was a very Robin-focused story as he had to overcome his desire to be the best at everything. Will he be the lead in the upcoming second OGN, Roll With It as well, or is someone else taking the lead for that story?

Well, Im not writing Roll With It, but the word I hear from behind the scenes is that Robin starts out running the Titans favorite role-playing game but only until the others get tired of his shenanigans and replace him. Of course, their new Basement Boss might not be the wisest choice in the world

4. What were your favorite episodes of the original Teen Titans cartoon and Teen Titans Go that influenced this story? And were there any other DC books that influenced your portrayal of a rather chaotic (and more kid-friendly than usual, natch) Apokalips?

Naturally, anytime you write anything set in Apokolips, your biggest influence is bound to be Jack Kirbys original stories that introduced the characters and their world. As I was plotting out the graphic novel, I went back and re-read the old Kirby comics for inspiration (and because it was a good excuse to re-read my collection of Kirby comics). Apart from obvious villains like Granny Goodness or Mantis, thats where I found more obscure characters like Devilance the Pursuer. Actually, I think we gave Devilance more space than hes had since 1972. I also really enjoyed the recent Mr. Miracle series, which inspired the recurring Darkseid is jokes. You know, people in Apokolips really do need to finish that sentence someday

Since Ive written lots of Teen Titans Go! comics (and an episode of the TV show), I already had a good handle on the Titans themselves. But most Teen Titans Go! stories are pretty short ten pages in the comics or eleven minutes on TV. So the real challenge here was to figure out how to make a full-length, 128-page graphic novel work equally well, with a story that would be substantial enough to be satisfying but still feel like an episode of Teen Titans Go! To help figure out how to do it, I re-watched the feature film Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, paying attention to how they tackled similar kinds of challenges of balancing plot, subplots, character arcs, and gags. We did it differently than they did, but it was very helpful to be able to dig into the movies structure as an example.

5. Cyborgs obsession with musical numbers was probably my favorite running gag here. Tell us, from behind the scenes what are Vic Stones favorite movie and Broadway musicals?

The musical numbers were a big favorite for me, too not to mention my youngest daughter, whos obsessed with Broadway musicals.

Cyborgs favorite movie and Broadway musicals? Well, lets see

Certainly not Singin In the Rain. Too much rust.

On the other hand, he loves The Wizard of Oz. He identifies with the Tin Man.

And, of course, Hamilton, given Cyborgs lifelong dream of becoming an 18th-Century politician. Besides, who doesnt love Hamilton?

And now, the review.

Ray: Ill be honest Im not a Teen Titans Go fan. I could never quite get into its unique brand of super-random comedy told in short bursts, and the characters are too far from their comic book versions for me to connect with them. I also freely admit Im out on a limb with this, and the show is wildly popular, to the point where it basically takes over Cartoon Network at points. There have been many comic book spinoffs, but this is the first long-form graphic novel based on the property, and I was intrigued for one reason Sholly Fisch, master of DC all-ages books and the man who wrote every issue of Scooby Doo Team-Up, was writing it. So did Teen Titans Go! To Camp make me a TTG fan?

Yes and no. I doubt Ill be doing any binging of the cartoon any time soon, but this graphic novel is a clever and funny expansion on the property thats taken to the next level by an all-star team of artists, led by frequent Fisch collaborator Marcelo DiChiara, who perfectly captures the manic energy of the main characters. The story centers around another summer as the Titans prepare to head off to summer camp one year after Robins disastrous attempt to one-up Speedy at Smores led to them apparently being banished from the Justice Leagues summer camp. So theyve picked another one on Apokalips. Pitting the TTG characters against the full forces of Darkseids army as part of a summer camp comedy seems absurd, but thats what this series does.

This is very much a Robin story, and if youre not familiar with the characterization of him in TTG, it can be a bit disorienting. A brash egomaniac who is constantly trying to prove himself the best hero, hes obsessed with Speedy and his rivalry leads him to do reckless things in pursuit of glory or Starfire. The other Titans are mostly supporting characters, although Beast Boy gets in some great visual gags. Raven and Starfire are mostly there to provide a contrast to the chaotic boys, but its Cyborg who gets the books best running gag thanks to his obsession with musicals. Poor guy really wants to go to band camp.

The main story is a lot of fun, paired with great easter eggs, but Sholly Fisch pulls an amazing hat trick with the great little stories-within-the-story he scatters through the book. Told in the form of letters from each of the campers not just the core five, but the Titans East campers and a few villains he shows us the story through different eyes and matches each segment with a different artist that perfectly suits the character. Francos surprise segment at the end was my favorite, but in terms of art alone, it was a pleasure to see Jamal Igles work on a DC book again.

Overall, Teen Titans Go! To Camp is going to be an acquired taste, because its definitely very much in the cartoons bizarre style of humor. But Fisch and his team of talented artists have much more room to play than the animators do in each segment, and have taken these oddball takes on DCs top teen heroes and given them a chaotic and hilarious story that fits them perfectly. It should be a must-buy for any parent with a TTG-loving kid.
