The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2015

The 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has not been awarded yet. It will be announced on Wednesday 7 October, 11:45 a.m. CET at the earliest.

"for the development of methods for identification and structure analyses of biological macromolecules"

"for their development of soft desorption ionisation methods for mass spectrometric analyses of biological macromolecules"

"for his development of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy for determining the three-dimensional structure of biological macromolecules in solution"

"for contributions to the developments of methods within DNA-based chemistry"

"for his invention of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method"

"for his fundamental contributions to the establishment of oligonucleotide-based, site-directed mutagenesis and its development for protein studies"

A protein-RNA Structure Hints at How Viruses Commandeer Human Proteins

Dr. Blanton Tolbert worked with PhD student Christopher Morgan, former PhD student Carrie Rollins and postdoctoral researcher Jeffery Levengood (along with Jennifer Meagher, James Delproposto and Jeanne Stuckey from the University of Michigan) toproduce the first image of an important human protein as it binds with ribonucleic acid (RNA), a discovery that could offer clues to how some viruses, including HIV, control expression of their genetic material. Marvin Pollum won top prize at the PITCH U competition here at Case held on November 7th. Pollum gave a 90 second pitch about his groups research into PDT for skin cancer.
