Adaptimmune Therapeutics plc and Japanese Astellas Pharma, Inc. have signed a discovery partnership to develop off-the-shelf allogeneic T cell-based cancer therapies from stem cells.
At J.P. Morgan conference, the British company announced that Astellas has agreed to co-develop and co-commercialize stem-cell derived allogeneic CAR-T and TCR T-cell therapies against up to three targets. In contrast to current autologous T cell therapies, allogenic T cell therapies might be manufactured in a central facility reducing production cost significantly compared to autologous cell production and logistics.
Under the agreement, Adaptimmune will identify and validate new targets for generating target-specific T-cell receptors (TCRs), chimeric antigen receptors (CARs), and HLA-independent TCRs that recognize surface epitopes independently from the HLA profile of the tumour cell. Astellas subsidiary Universal Cells, Inc will provide its Universal Donor Cell and Gene Editing Platform, which makes use of a stem cell-tropic rAAV vector for engineering humanpluripotent stem cells to contain deletions, insertions, or point mutations at any genomic position.
Adaptimmune has been collaborating with Universal Cells since 2015 on development of gene-edited induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines that generate proprietary T-cell products without the use of feeder layers.
Under the agreement, Astellas will fund research up until completion of a Phase I trial for each candidate with US$7.5m per year. Subsequently, Astellas and Adaptimmune may opt for co-development and co-commercialization of the candidate, or independent development through a milestone and royalty bearing licence. Under the agreement, Astellas will also have the right to select two targets and develop allogeneic cell therapy candidates on its own.
In case of Astellas would develop the candidates on its own, Adaptimmune may receive up to$897.5m in payments. If Adaptimmune would do so, Astellas may receive up to US$552.5m. If the companies opt for co-commercialisation any T-cell therapy, costs and profits will be shared equally.

Palm Beach State College offers two degree programs in biotechnology. Students may choose to enroll inthe Associate in Science (AS) degree, which prepares students for entry into the biotechnology workforce, academic research, and related industries; or a dual Associate in Arts (AA)/(AS) degree option, designed for pre-med and other students planning to transfer to a four-year university. Both the AS and dual AA/AS programs require students to complete a 4-month Biotech internship outside of the College that provides training in real-world academic or industry research.
Our award winning program is taught byPhD level scientific faculty and researchers committed to providing challenging courses to meet the needs of the growing biotech industry.
We also offera 19-credit Biotechnology College Credit Certificate (CCC) for studentswho already have a bachelor's degree and want to gain the in-demand skills employers require and the internship needed to get a high-tech job orto strengthen anapplication to graduate or medical school.
Palm Beach State's biotech business partnership, consisting of over 25 different biotech firms, allows our students unique internship opportunities which develop the skills and experience required for a successful career in the biotechnology field.

Welcome to the Biotechnology portal. Biotechnology is a technology based on biology, especially when used in agriculture, food science, and medicine.
Of the many different definitions available, the one declared by the UN Convention on Biological Diversity is one of the broadest:

Cloning is the process of creating an identical copy of an original. A clone in the biological sense, therefore, is a single cell (like bacteria, lymphocytes etc.) or multi-cellular organism that is genetically identical to another living organism. Sometimes this can refer to "natural" clones made either when an organism reproduces asexually or when two genetically identical individuals are produced by accident (as with identical twins), but in common parlance the clone is an identical copy by some conscious design. Also see clone (genetics). The term clone is derived from , the Greek word for "twig". In horticulture, the spelling clon was used until the twentieth century; the final e came into use to indicate the vowel is a "long o" instead of a "short o". Since the term entered the popular lexicon in a more general context, the spelling clone has been used exclusively.

STATEMENT OF INTEREST OF AMICUS CURIAE
The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) is the world's largest biotechnology trade association, providing advocacy, development, and communications services for over 1,100 members worldwide. BIO members - many of whom are small, emerging companies-involved in the research and development of innovative healthcare, agricultural, industrial, and environmental biotechnology products.
BIO has no direct stake in the result of this appeal, nor does BIO take a position on the ultimate validity or infringement of the claims to a method of obtaining viable hepatocytes for medical uses. No counsel for a party authored this brief in whole or in part, and no such counsel or party, nor any person other than the amicus curiae or its counsel, made a monetary contribution intended to fund the preparation or submission of this brief. This brief is solely the work of BIO and its counsel and reflects BIO's consensus view, but not necessarily the view of any individual member or client. BIO and its members are concerned that the development and commercialization of a diverse array of biotechnologies, including diagnostic testing and personalized medicine, will be hampered, if not precluded, if this Court does not address the mounting uncertainty currently afflicting patentable subject matter jurisprudence.
Unfortunately, the District Courts decision has done nothing to alleviate that uncertainty, but instead has exacerbated doubts as to whether meaningful patent protection remains available in the United States for many biotechnology inventions, and if so, the extent of that protection and the means to draft commercially meaningful method claims that meet the newly heightened standard for patent eligibility. The invention in this case would traditionally have been deemed eligible subject matter for patenting under 35 U.S.C. 101. It provides an excellent opportunity for the court to provide timely clarification on issues of critical concern to BIO and its members.

MSU - Qingdao Biotechnology Program 2014 - Video
We are living in the midst of a biotechnology revolution.
In the not too distant future, organ transplants will be a thing of the past. Doctors will use your DNA to determine treatment options. And these treatments will be available for animals and humans alike. Fueling all of this change is biotechnology. You can be one of these innovators not only by becoming a researcher, but also by following a variety of other career paths, including becoming a doctor, veterinarian, patent lawyer, health inspector, orenvironmental biotechnologist.
We prepare students for transfer to a four-year college to major in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular genetics, immunology, and related fields. Our program is also good preparation for medical, veterinary, dental, and pharmaceutical school and it provides the robust, interdisciplinary training modern baccalaureate science programs demand.
You don't have to move hundreds of miles away to work in biotechnology. We now have many biotechnology employers right in the area. They NEED YOU to be successful.
Biotechnology students at JCC perform on-site research in multiple areas, including immunology, breast cancer, heartworm, and Lyme disease. Students can gain even more experience by taking part in the Science Undergraduate Research Initiative: Biotech(SURI). We're also involved with area high schools through the HURI SURI program, which is designed to give high school students a chance to perform actual research through an interdisciplinary, college level course called Biology: A Molecular Approach.
Several biotechnology students attended the Experimental Biology Conference in Washington, DC in April 2011 and the American Association of Immunologists meeting in Boston in May 2012.
