4. Some Techniques in Biotechnology SG
Techniques in molecular biology have played a large role in the basic and applied sciences of biotechnology. In this lecture, the technique of gene cloning is explained and how cloned sequences of DNA from different sources can be used to construct transgenes used in genetic modification. This techniques allows applications in Agricultural, Pharmaceutical and Medical Biotechnology that are explained later in the course. From:Albert KauschViews:0 0ratingsTime:30:05More inEducation

2. Setting the Stage: What is Science? SG
This lecture intends to set the stage for the discourse on evidence based knowledge in comparison to belief or superstition. It presents the scientific method as an approach to knowledge and fact. The rest of this course strongly favors and relies on evidence knowledge concerning biological knowledge and the applications of biotechnology. From:Albert KauschViews:0 0ratingsTime:51:10More inEducation

8. The Genomics Revolution SG
The first draft of the human genome was publish February 15 2001; and accomplishment arguably eclipsing the significance of landing on the moon for its broad reaching impact on all of us and our future society. A genome is all the DNA in an organism, including its genes. Genes carry information for making all the proteins required by all organisms. We now know all the genes in humans, mice, dogs, rice plants and many other organisms. We can use this information to compare ourselves to other life on this planet, but also to learn more about how to diagnosis and treat diseases, how to make better crops, and how to treat cancer and other diseases. probably none of us will go to the moon. Knowing all the genes in humans will affect all of us in our lifetime. This lecture also adds to our knowledge about more techniques used in biotechnology, including how DNA, RNA and proteins are detected and analyzed. From:Albert KauschViews:0 0ratingsTime:01:02:58More inEducation

Mirena ® IUD
Mirena ® IUD Injury Mirena Lawsuits The Mirena® intrauterine device (IUD) is a T-shaped birth control product meant to be inserted into the uterus for up to five years at a time. The product prevents pregnancy by slowly releasing a hormone that helps prevent egg fertilization by thickening cervical mucus while also thinning the uterine lining and partially suppressing ovulation. Mirena also is approved to treat heavy menstrual bleeding. Mirena has been linked to severe health issues related to complications from uterine perforation, where the IUD perforates the wall of the uterus. These perforations can occur when the device erodes the wall of the uterus or shifts location spontaneously. According to an abstract provided by the US National Center for Biotechnology Information, severe lower abdominal pain and abnormal bleeding may be warning signs of a perforation. Other perforation injuries are often discovered during check-up visits. While perforation may be detected at the time of insertion, some perforations lack symptoms and may not be detected for a long period of time. Delayed detection of a uterine perforation can result in Mirena migrating to other parts of the body, which can cause internal damage and other severe injuries. In some cases, surgery is needed to retrieve the IUD from a patient. Who is at risk for uterine perforation? Bayer, the drug #39;s manufacturer, reports the risk of a uterine perforation from Mirena is between 1/1000 and 1/10000 insertions ...From:Kondos LawViews:0 0ratingsTime:00:31More inPeople Blogs
