Let #39;s Play Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Part 03) - Stab Ya Later
If this video is not seen due to the end of the world, I #39;mma be so pissed. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a cyberpunk-themed action role-playing video game developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix, which also produced the game #39;s CGI sequences. Released in August 2011, it is the third game in the Deus Ex series, and a prequel to the original game released in 2000. The game is set in 2027, 25 years before the first game in the series, at a time when multinational corporations have grown in power beyond the control of national governments. The game follows Adam Jensen, the newly hired security director at Sarif Industries, a growing biotechnology firm. After terrorists brutally attack Sarif #39;s Detroit-based headquarters, the mortally wounded Jensen is forced to undergo radical life-saving surgeries that replace large areas of his body with advanced prostheses. Returning to work, he becomes embroiled in the global politics of the human enhancement movement in the search for those responsible for the attack. A central theme to the game is the rise of corporations in globalization, espionage, human survival, poverty and the ethics of advancing humans with artificial replacements for body parts. For Autism Researcher, Yankee Stadium is Field of Dreams
Watch more videos at: http://www.entrepreneur.com In this Thought Leaders video series, we take a look at where today #39;s game changers find inspiration. Dr. Joan Fallon was working in private practice when she discovered that children with autism often had enzyme deficiencies. With the help of angel investors, she formed biotechnology firm Curemark in Rye, NY, and began working on an enzyme-replacement therapy. Her autism treatment, currently in trials, has been placed in the Food Drug Administration #39;s fast-track program, which expedites the review of new drugs. There is currently no drug that treats the core symptoms of autism, which affects one in 88 children, according to the Centers for Disease Control Prevention. In this video, we head to Yankee Stadium, where Fallon is a season-ticket holder. The ups and downs of baseball are a lot like entrepreneurship, she says. And the game is all about hope, something she hopes to bring to families dealing with autism. The Mind of David Pearce Part 1 – Why and how to get rid of suffering – Video

The Mind of David Pearce Part 1 - Why and how to get rid of suffering
"This talk is about suffering and how to get rid of it. I predict we will abolish suffering throughout the living world. Our descendants will be animated by gradients of genetically preprogrammed well-being that are orders of magnitude richer than today #39;s peak experiences. First, I #39;m going to outline why it #39;s technically feasible to abolish the biological substrates of any kind of unpleasant experience - psychological pain as well as physical pain. Secondly, I #39;m going to argue for the overriding moral urgency of the abolitionist project, whether or not one is any kind of ethical utilitarian. Thirdly, I #39;m going to argue why a revolution in biotechnology means it #39;s going to happen, albeit not nearly as fast as it should." -Transhumanist philosopher David Pearce, abolitionist dot comFrom:AlgeKalipsoViews:1 0ratingsTime:08:58More inEntertainment

Mild Vibrations May Benefit Obesity – Video

Mild Vibrations May Benefit Obesity
Low-intensity vibrations led to improvements in the immune function of obese mice by restoring B and T-cell populations and thereby diminishing consequences of obesity, according to a study published online in The FASEB Journal. Professors Ete Chan and Clinton Rubin in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook University believe if the same effect can be found in people, daily exposure to such vibrations could have clinical benefits for people suffering from a wide ranges of immune problems related to obesity. "This study demonstrates that mechanical signals can help restore an immune system compromised by obesity," said Clinton Rubin, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor, Chair of Biomedical Engineering, and Director of Stony Brook #39;s Center for Biotechnology. "While it is well known that obesity can cripple many physiologic systems, this work suggests that mechanical signals mdash;in the absence of drugs mdash;can help combat this disease and its sequelae. That these mechanical signals are so brief, and so mild, is further evidence of how exquisitely tuned our body is to external signals, and that remaining active mdash;climbing stairs at work, taking a walk at lunch, standing while reading a book mdash;will help achieve and retain good health." In the study titled "Bone structure and B-cell populations, crippled by obesity, are partially rescued by brief daily exposure to low-magnitude mechanical signals," Dr. Rubin and colleagues fed a group of adult mice a high fat diet for seven ...From:StonyBrookMedicineViews:49 0ratingsTime:02:31More inNonprofits Activism
