The Journey through the Pentose Phosphate Pathway – Video

The Journey through the Pentose Phosphate Pathway
A student (Billy Harper) of comparative biochemistry encountered some difficulty on a question on the pentose phosphate pathway even though he studied for the exam. As his thoughts began to drift his fairy god father suddenly appeared to him in a dreamlike trance. With the aid of this god parent he was able gain a better understanding of the topic.From:BiochemJMViews:8 0ratingsTime:17:26More inEducation

Rupert Sheldrake with Ian Punnett [2012.09.09] - Science Set Free
http://www.coasttocoastam.com Scientific Dogma Former director of studies in biochemistry and cell biology at Clare College, Cambridge University, Rupert Sheldrake, talks about how science is riddled with various dogmas that limit new possibilities, and discovery. Among the limiting beliefs that he refutes are: Nature is purposeless and has no goal or direction. Minds are inside heads and are nothing but the activity of brains. Unexplained phenomena such as telepathy are illusory. Sheldrake said he is trying to encourage scientists and doctors to think more freely-- many already have non-materialist views, but often are afraid to share them with their colleagues. -- http://www.sheldrake.org Rupert Sheldrake, one of the world #39;s most innovative biologists and writers, is best known for his theory of morphic fields and morphic resonance, which leads to a vision of a living, developing universe with its own inherent memory. He worked in developmental biology at Cambridge University, where he was a Fellow of Clare College. He was then Principal Plant Physiologist at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), in Hyderabad, India. From 2005 to 2010 he was Director of the Perrott-Warrick project. , funded from Trinity College, Cambridge.From:geogaddi00Views:7 0ratingsTime:28:12More inEducation

Gramicidin And Related Ion Channel-forming Peptides - Novartis Foundation
ll4.me Gramicidin And Related Ion Channel-forming Peptides - Novartis Foundation Gramicidin channels have been studied intensively for more than 25 years. They serveas model transport systems for large protein ion channels, since it is difficult to glean high-resolution structural information on the latter. This book includes contributions from virtually all the majorscientists studying gramicidin channels and is the only compilation of work in this field. It discusses crystallographic, spectroscopic, electrophysiological and computational studies, especially in the light of the recent availability of high-resolution structural data, and it compares these with insights derived from larger systems. As well as drawing together much new and exciting work in this field, it provides pointers to promising new research directions.Author: Novartis Foundation Publisher: Wiley Illustration: N Language: ENG Title: Gramicidin and Related Ion Channel-Forming Peptides Pages: 00284 (Encrypted PDF) On Sale: 2008-04-30 SKU-13/ISBN: 9780471988465 Category: Science : Life Sciences - Biochemistry Gramicidin channels have been studied intensively for more than 25 years. Biochemistry Of Lipids, Lipoproteins And Membranes
ll4.me Biochemistry Of Lipids, Lipoproteins And Membranes The second edition of this book on lipids, lipoprotein and membrane biochemistry has two major objectives - to provide anadvanced textbook for students in these areas of biochemistry, and to summarise the field for scientists pursuing research inthese and related fields. Since the first edition of this book was published in 1985 theemphasis on research in the area of lipid and membrane biochemistry has evolved in new directions. Consequently, thesecond edition has been modified to include four chapters on lipoproteins. Moreover, the other chapters have been extensivelyupdated and revised so that additional material covering the areas of cell signalling by lipids, the assembly of lipids andproteins into membranes, and the increasing use of molecular biological techniques for research in the areas of lipid, lipoprotein and membrane biochemistry have been included. Each chapter of the textbook is written by an expert in the field, but the chapters are not simply reviews of current literature. Rather, they are written as current, readable summaries of these areas of research which should be readily understandable to students and researchers who have a basic knowledge of general biochemistry. The authors were selected fortheir abilities both as researchers and as communicators. In addition, the editors have carefully coordinated the chapters sothat there is little overlap, yet extensive cross-referencing among chapters ...From:leophilips9854Views:0 0ratingsTime:00:13More inPeople Blogs

Madison man accused of growing marijuana on campus

MADISON, Wis. -

A former plant researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is accused of growing marijuana in a university lab.

A Wisconsin State Journal report said 45-year-old Christopher J. Schwartz was charged Friday with two felony counts of marijuana manufacturing and possession.

Prosecutors said someone discovered 12 marijuana plants being grown inside a growth chamber in the biochemistry building last month. The criminal complaint said the chamber was used by Schwartz and locked with a padlock.

A university spokeswoman said Schwartz was initially placed on administrative leave after his arrest, but he resigned late last month.

No working telephone listing for Schwartz could be found Saturday. Online court records didn't list a defense attorney for him.

The complaint said Schwartz acknowledged growing the plants for personal use.

Thanks for watching. Please subscribe and go to http://www.facebook.com and "Like" us to be notified of future videos. For those of us whose lives were changed by music, we need to speak up for music education and give back to the kids in our communities. No child should be denied the opportunity to discover all the joys and benefits that can be fulfilled b y playing an instrument. As a child learns the discipline of an instrument, the lessons they receive follow into their academic studies and, ultimately, through their life. For many children, the sense of freedom experienced through music can change their entire outlook about school and life. My own life was changed by the gift of music. I had a rough time as a child trying to figure out what I was good at until I discovered my musical talent. It boosted my self-esteem, and I received a college scholarship at age 12 by playing the cello. It #39;s only because of music that I now feel like my life is in the right direction. And that 66% of music majors who apply to medical schools get accepted compared to the 44% of Biochemistry majors, I think is amazing. - Matthew JohnFrom:FriendsOfMatthewJohnViews:3 0ratingsTime:08:01More inMusic
