United lands at Beaches airport

WEST BAY When best friends Angie Moll and April Van Etten arrived at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) on Thursday afternoon, they were taken aback by the welcome they received.

The friends were two of about 40 passengers on the first United Airlines flight from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, each of which was greeted by a crowd distributing welcome bags and taking pictures as they arrived at ECP.

Were here for warm weather, said Moll, who traveled with Van Etten from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We heard (Panama City Beach) had one of the most beautiful beaches.

The twice-daily service from Houston is flown on a 50-seat Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft through ExpressJet, one of Uniteds regional express branches. The first flight was welcomed to ECP with a water salute from the airports fire department, a gesture of good luck.

Were very enthusiastic about the bookings weve seen, said Robert Klos, senior manager for United Express Performance. There has been very heavy inbound flight (bookings), especially for a new route.

As one of Uniteds major U.S. hubs, service to IAH opens up connection to 176 domestic and international destinations for the airport in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Whats great is, as one of our major hubs, its an international gateway for us, Klos said. It opens up so many markets that United services.

Klos said because ECP is a seasonal and tourism-driven airport, officials expected flights to be more full on the way in than on the way out, with Thursdays outbound flight carrying about 30 passengers.

Michele Kiker and her husband, Jake, drove to ECP from Tallahassee for the flight, which had a lower fare than from Tallahassee Regional Airport.

I try to shop flights a bit. ... The flight was a little bit less expensive, Kiker said. Weve never been to this airport before, so we wanted to check it out.

South Walton Beaches Wine and Food Festival Showcases Local Restaurants, Food Artisans and International Celebrity …

Miramar Beach, Florida (PRWEB) March 05, 2015

Foodies will delight in the delicious dishes prepared by both local and celebrity chefs specially designed to pair with the impressive roster of imported and domestic wines being poured in this years South Walton Beaches Wine & Food Festival.

April 23 through 26, wine and food lovers will sip, swirl and nibble their way through the Town Center of Grand Boulevard at Sandestin, located within the beach communities of idyllic South Walton in Northwest Florida.

Overseeing Savor South Walton Culinary Village is seasoned local chef Gary Serafin of Emerald Coast Catering. After more than 40 years in the food and beverage industry, Serafin still enjoys the art of well-catered events, and relishes his role of culinary director of South Waltons largest wine fete.

I dont think theres anything more satisfying, Serafin says. Arent the best times of our lives those that involve food and wine?

Serafin is tasked with reviewing the wines and designing a menu of dishes that will complement them. We approach this event as a food and wine experience, so whether you prefer white or red wine, we will have a variety of foods vegetarian, meats and seafoods to try to have something everyone will enjoy, he says.

In addition to traditional food favorites, Serafin always present something new each year to keep the Festival menu unexpected and exciting. One such dish is a creamy Risotto featuring roast duck and mushrooms. To complement South of France wines being poured in Culinary Village, Tartiflette, a French potato, bacon and cheese dish will be served as well.

A classic feature this year will be a variety of artisan cheeses by ANCO Fine Cheeses, one of the largest importers of specialty cheeses in the United States. And back by popular demand are the artfully inspired and award-winning sushi creations of Yoshi Eddings of Harbor Docks in Destin as well as gourmet olive oils and gorgeous, garden fresh nibbles harvested from the organic gardens of Mac Farms located in Santa Rosa Beach. Rounding out the tasting menu is a sampling of delicate almonds, assorted charcuterie and other small bites.

Fifth generation wine pioneer Marc Perrin of Chteau de Beaucastel will make a special appearance in the Culinary Village. For more than a century Famille Perrin has trailblazed the wine industry to become the largest owner of vineyards in the best terroirs of the Frances Southern Rhne Valley. Francofile foodies will savor food pairings prepared by accomplished Chef Laurent Deconinck of LOustalet, a Mediterranean-inspired boutique hotel restaurant in the heart of a winegrowing village in Gigondas, France, also owned and operated by the Perrin family.

Foodies can also tuck into a series of tasting seminars also held within the Culinary Village. Perrin and Deconinck will team to present a food and wine seminar on Saturday at 1 p.m. The series continues with David Laird of Balvenie Distillery at 2 p.m. and Pierre De Agostini of ANCO Fine Cheeses speaking on how to select the perfect cheese to pair with wine at 3 p.m.

Travellers' Choice Beaches for 2015

Some familiar names and some new ones but only one beach in Asia makes the Top 10 and it's the White Beach in Boracay, Philippines. In its third year TripAdvisor has listed the winners of its 2015 Travellers' Choice awards for Beaches. It includes lists for Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Europe, South America, the South Pacific, Britain and the United States.

Travellers' Choice award-winning beaches were determined based on the quantity and quality of traveller reviews and ratings for beaches on TripAdvisor gathered over a 12-month period.

Top 10 Travellers' Choice Beaches in the World:

1. Baia do Sancho, Fernando de Noronha, Brazil - Baia do Sancho is a beach located 215 miles northeast of Brazil's mainland. This crescent-shaped lush bay comes out on top for its crystal clear blue water and solitude. "Incredible, breath-taking, free. The beach was never crowded, the trek to get there is not easy for some, but I would do it 100 times over for that serenity," commented a TripAdvisor reviewer.

2. Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos - Located on the island of Providenciales, Grace Bay is known for its snow-white sand beach that is 11 km in length. The island is home to many upscale resorts and condos. A TripAdvisor reviewer commented, "This is by far the most fabulous beach, sand and water and I have travelled to quite a few islands. The jade blue waters, the baby powder soft sand is like a dream come true!"

3. Rabbit Beach, Lampedusa, Italy - The name of this beach originated from the Arabic word rabit meaning "link", which referred to the isthmus that used to link the island to another. Today the isthmus is no longer there but the name still remains. "The water is crystal clear and not very deep. Great for snorkelling. The sand is delicious and you can see the wildlife swim near you," raved a TripAdvisor reviewer.

4. Playa Paraiso Beach - Cayo Largo, Cuba - "Paradise Beach" Playa Paraiso is a secluded beach with glittering white sands and gorgeous turquoise waters. "Playa Paraiso consists of sand bars that go on forever! It has calm lagoons with starfish, jellyfish and schools of flying fish and swordfish. It is quiet and beautiful! The sand is so white and soft. A trip to Cayo Largo is incomplete without a trip to Playa Paraiso," a TripAdvisor reviewer recommended.

5. Playa de Ses Illetes, Formentera, Spain - Playa de Ses Illetes is one of the most frequented beaches on the beautiful island of Formentera. "I was planning on doing some more sight-seeing but was so impressed with the beauty of this beach that I stayed the whole time. The water was as clear blue as it could be and I swam out over my head and could still see the bottom!" a TripAdvisor traveller commented.

6. Anse Lazio, Praslin Island, Seychelles - Fringed by tall palms and Takamaka trees, the Anse Lazio beach is crescent moon shaped and never fails to lure tourist for its pure waters and wide horizon line. According to a TripAdvisor reviewer, "The beach is isolated to the north of the island. It has a lot of shade, white sand, blue waters and beautiful rocks. Take a walk to the right and you will get to a more secluded area of the beach. Not to be missed."

7. White Beach, Boracay, Philippines - Sheltered from the wind, White Beach's waters are glassy-smooth, shallow and warm, making them perfect for snorkelling and swimming. "Unlike any other beach that I have been too. Clear water, aqua and blue water all in one place. The water is comfortably warm/cool. The beach sand is white and powdery with virtually no rocks in it. Overall the beach felt safe no matter what time day or night it was," a TripAdvisor traveller noted.
