Gay Travel: Languedoc Beaches Part 1

The beaches close to Beziers-Cap d'Agde in the southern Herault department, Languedoc-Roussillon, are characterized by long swathes of sandy beaches and modern beach resorts which offer a range of good facilities. In particular the beach resort at Le Cap d'Agde - Languedoc-Roussillon's premier beach resort - offers eleven excellent beaches giving plenty of choice of activities for all tastes and all ages. Le Cap d'Agde is also linked to the ancient city of Agde - well worth a visit for its delightful warren of streets in the old city centre with artisan shops and boutiques. The more southerly resort of Valras Plage offers a huge range of activities and fun for all the family and you can get here fro Beziers on a local bus costing a few cents.

If large resorts are not your idea of a beach holiday, then you can try the smaller more secluded stretches of beach at Farinette, Redoute, Serignan, Vendres and Les Cabanes-de-Fleury. Here you will discover mile after mile of golden sand, family beaches, gay beaches and nudists beaches.

To the north of Le Cap d'Agde is the impressive saltwater Thau Lagoon, and here you will find a number of pretty fishing towns and villages and some lovely little beaches such as those at Marseillan Plage and Meze. and also the vast length of sandy beach leading up to one of our favorite towns, Sete.

Dead fish wash up on Coromandel beaches

Dead fish, most of them snapper, have washed up on Coromandel Peninsula beaches, and fisheries authorities want to know how they got there.

The rotting carcasses are littering beaches from the top of the Coromandel Peninsula for about a 10km stretch, Newstalk ZB reported.

Fisheries authorities want to hear from anyone who might have a clue as to what happened.

In similar cases in the past, prosecutions have resulted against commercial trawlers dumping their catch at sea.

Compliance manager Brendon Mikkelsen says the fish started washing up on New Year's Day.

"There is a significant volume of snapper and we're currently investigating it. The positive is that we have some witnesses coming forward so we're speaking to those witnesses."

He is asking for public help to shed light on how the fish got there.

"We're most interested in information from anybody that's seen any activity at sea that's associated with that fish, so obviously vessels in the area."

Mr Mikkelsen warned people not to eat the fish as there was no telling how long they had been floating at sea in the sun.

Beaches real estate market booming

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. A 'for sale' sign sits outside of Linda Morgans Atlantic Beach home, but if the empty infotube tells you anything, it probably wont be there for much longer.

"It's been phenomenal, Morgan said of the response. I was out of town the last two weeks and I was getting calls from all over the country."

Within just 48 hours of her home being on the market, Morgan says she got an offer and since then, theyve kept on coming. The bids have been so frequent, even she was caught off-guard, and Morgan is a local real estate agent herself.

It seems the market at the Beaches has quickly flipped from a buyers market into a sellers.

"If a seller has a marketable piece of property, now they can get their property sold and at the best price, said Don Cline of Prudential Network Realty.

Cline says the demand at the Beaches is so hot right now, theyre basically begging for listings.

"This time last year we had 32 percent more properties available for buyers to choose from, he said.

According to the Commerce Department, Americans bought new homes last month at the fastest pace in more than two and a half years. In addition, according to a survey by the National Association of Home Builders, builder confidence rose this month to its highest level in six and a half years.

Many say these are signs of a housing-market recovery.

To Morgan, its a sign indicating that she should probably raise the price.

Rebuilding Baldwin Beaches

GULF SHORES, Alabama --

Heavy equipment is once again on the beaches of Gulf Shores putting back what Mother Nature and time has taken away.

"Going from Laguna Key which is the end of our city limits to the west, to the Florida line." City marine resource manager Brandan Franklin says sand is being pumped from what is called borrow sites off shore. The initial concern was those sites may have been contaminated by the BP oil spill. He says extensive testing was done before the first grain hit the shoreline. "Anytime you go to the bottom of the gulf and get new sand it's going to have this greyish tint but in not time at all it'll be bleached white, perfect match."

Once crews are finished in Gulf Shores they're going to skip the state park and head straight to Orange Beach hoping to build back the beach before spring breakers arrive.

"We're looking for the last week of January right before the first," says Orange Beach marine resource manager Phillip West.

Huge dredge pipes are already in place along the beach. "There will be some disruption along the beach. Watch the work zones and there'll be crossings at the pipes. You will be able to get to the shoreline. Pardon our progress."

Once Orange Beach is finished crews will head to the state park beaches. By the end of the project the beach will extend an additional 30 yards into the Gulf of Mexico. An important buffer during hurricane season.

"By putting additional sand on the beach, elevating the beach, anytime we get a storm the water and storm surge is less likely to damage the structures along the coast," says Franklin. "We can get that added protection it's well worth the money."

From Laguna Key to Highway 59 and Beach Boulevard is already finished. A few more days and the project will be out of Gulf Shores.

The price tag for the project, 16 million dollars. FEMA is paying for about 75 percent of that.

Beaches closed as shark refuses to be herded off

SEARCH and rescue teams will scour the northern beaches again after a 2.5-metre shark closed two popular swimming spots.

In the second brush with a shark on a NSW beach in the past three days, an off-duty Warringah Council lifeguard, Danny Sheather, was knocked off his board while surfing at Dee Why about 12.45pm on Sunday.

Mr Sheather did not see what hit him but noticed a 30-centimetre chunk out of the bottom of his board when he returned to shore.

''It looked like something had come up and rammed him from underneath,'' Steve Downman, a Warringah Council lifeguard supervisor, said. Dee Why and Long Reef beaches were immediately closed.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter soon spotted a 2.5-metre white shark at the south end of Dee Why.

Despite lifesavers' efforts it could not be moved on, so both beaches remained closed all afternoon.

''The boat attempted to shepherd the shark away from shallow water,'' Stephen Leahy, the chief executive of the helicopter service, said. ''It wasn't deterred whatsoever, which is unusual.''

I #39;ll post a new video of stuff that #39;s happened since then this Thursday. Hopefully, we #39;ll manage to get on a more regular schedule. xx dalz PS you can find me and Fiona on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/Dalzi http://www.twitter.com/EvilFiona

Shark scare closes two Sydney beaches

A shark that took a 30-centimetre chunk out of a lifeguard's surfboard continues to roam the waters off a Sydney beach.

Dee Why and Long Reef beaches in Sydney's north remained closed on Sunday afternoon after off-duty Warringah Council lifeguard Danny Sheather was knocked off his board.

He was surfing about 100 metres off the south end of Dee Why beach about 11.50am (AEDT) on Sunday when the drama began.

"I got a wave, paddled in and got up and I was going along and felt this almighty hit from the bottom," Mr Sheather told AAP.

"And it kind of shouldered me forward off my board.

"Then I turned over and there's this big chunk out of my board."

Mr Sheather said he did not see the predator, but noticed a 30cm chunk, in the form of a semi-circle, missing from one side of his board.

He then paddled in and raised the alarm.

Dean Storey from Surf Life Saving NSW said rescue helicopters were keeping an eye on a 2.5m shark near Dee Why beach.

"As long as the shark is in the area the beaches will remain closed," Mr Storey told AAP.

TWO Sydney beaches have been closed after a possible shark attack this afternoon.

Off-duty council lifeguard Danny Sheather, 23, believes his board was hit by a shark while riding between long reef and Dee Why on the northern beaches.

Both Dee Why and Long Reef Beach were immediately closed and "shark sighted" signs erected. Lifesavers took to the water in rubber duckies to patrol the beach.

More than an hour after Mr Sheather's encounter, a large shark was spotted in the same area of the beach by helicopter crews - and the shark refused to be herded out to sea.

"The shark was about 2.5m long and was inside the breaking waves close to shore," a Westpac helicopter spokesman said.

"It was swimming in circles between two rips right where the surfer was hit by something."

"It appeared to us to be either a great white shark or a bull shark, and certainly seemed to want to stay in the same area.

"It certainly adds legitimacy to the incident being a genuine encounter with a shark."

Beached NYC Finback Whale Dies – Video

Beached NYC Finback Whale Dies
A huge whale that beached itself on the New York shoreline has died. The 60-foot finback whale came ashore Wednesday in the Breezy Point neighborhood in Queens. Finbacks are one of the largest animals on Earth, second only in size to the blue whale, and they have a lifespan of up to 100 years. Whales and other sea mammals beach themselves for a number of reasons such as old age, disease or human causes, like a boat strike. Every year, New York beaches see a few large whale strandings and occasionally, as with this incident, the animal is still alive when it appears. But the finback stopped breathing Friday when it washed back to shore after drifting away during the high tide. A necropsy will determine a cause of death later this week.From:slatesterViews:744 9ratingsTime:00:59More inPets Animals
